I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello.
I want to ask a question here.
I have a legal Windows 7 Home Basic pre-installed (bought a laptop - OEM).
It was 12 years old, I didn't know what is pirated, legal, it was same for me.

So, I searched the internet about Windows Anytime Upgrade key generator (read:keygen), I downloaded it, and generated the key, there was an Ultimate key.

Then I pasted the key, to the Windows Anytime Upgrade.
At first, it was failed, so I forget it.
Then, when I shut down and I turn on my laptop, it was upgrading to the Windows 7 Ultimate!
It was my fault when was child, and know I've restored it the legal Windows (Windows 7 Home Basic). Now has upgraded to Windows 10 Home.

My question is, I used the pirated Windows 7 Ultimate to downloaded the Windows 7 .ISO (setup) from the third-party site (it was 100% clean, untouched, really no crack, OEM, keygen, etc. just same with the DVD), burn it to flashdisk, and installed it to
my laptop.
I was afraid my laptop become 'pirated' legal, because I obtained the legal Windows with the pirated way.

Is this okay I used the Windows?
My Windows now is very good, works perfect, no error. I checked it was genuine (when Windows 7 Home Basic after restored from pirated Windows 7 Ultimate), then I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home.

Is this okay, or I should buy a Windows 7 DVD.ISO to perform clean install to my laptop? To obtained my Windows is 100% legal and genuine?

Thanks, hope you understand.

Hello. I have recently discovered that I was hacked. I fixed all of the mal-ware problems, and am happy to say am running a clean machine. The trouble is, every so often, a few times a day, my machine is still attacked by this same person. I have his IP logged from each attempt he tries. He likes to use NetBus and VerifyByte. I was wondering if I can contact anyone to prosecute this hacker? Do i inform my ISP? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks a lot.

My 89 yr old mother-in-law bought a desktop from an estate sale. Said she was told it had a 'pirated' copy of XP on it. Called me to find out what that was. She only wanted the computer to do e-mail and FaceBook with the grandkids and great-grandkids. Said she only paid $20 and wanted to know if I could "fix" it. Now, I do have a legal copy of XP that was on a computer that has long since bit the dust. The XP program was an upgrade from ME. I would like to help her and wonder if I could take my upgrade legal CD of XP and just put it in the machine and copy over the 'pirated' copy?

We found a website that rents movies online. You download a rented movie for around $4.99 and can either store it for 30 days, or once you begin watching it, use it for 24 hours. Then we found out that there are lots and lots of companies who rent movies online. Some of them charge a yearly fee, and some of them charge a fee per viewing. I like this idea, but don't know how to tell a legit business from a bootlegger.

It seems pretty cool to be able to rent movies online, without having to run to the video store on a cold night, and not having to return the used cassette or dvd. But it seems like I have heard that this is illegal. Am I wrong about this, or can I get into trouble for doing business with these companies?

Here are a few of the websites I have found: http://www.movielink.com/store/web/home/home.jsp?_requestid=136310, http://freemovienow.com/?hop=seodpg,, http://www.vongo.com/?cam=direct&tac=search&grp=GGL9, http://www.lightspeedmovies.com/.

Can any of you more experienced people help me out? Is this the same as renting a movie from Blockbuster, or is this shady? if it is legit, tell me the best sites to rent movies from. Thanks for your input.

Hi,

I am a student and need to install many types of software over and over again.
If I understand it correctly, windows makes backups of all DLL-files to prevent the DLL-hell scenario from happening.
But as I need to install/remove many programs I end up with a lot of garbage (I asume) in my winsxs folder.

Right now I have a winsxs folder of 11.3 gb, an application folder of 7.5gb on my 120gb ssd (windows) drive and about 117gb off apps (and games) on my storage drive.

I formatted my laptop this summer but I am concerned that my drive will get flooded with storage data faster then I can remove apps from my C-drive.

What I would like to know is:
- In what case does winsxs backup all my DLL-files
- How can I prevent windows from doing that? (protable apps?)
- How can I prevent the DLL-hell scenario while preventing sxs growth?

My old Dell, running Vista, went down for the count. I wasted about 8 hours to discover that it will never again reboot, and can't have the system reinstalled. I know it's hardware that's causing the problem now, I'm not a new user.

I had most of my data backed up on an external HD, but, I wasn't up to date on my iTunes library and I need to grab that off the sickly disk somehow. If I could get into it without booting it (like an external with no system), I could probably take that and anything else that I've forgotten.

I never had to side-by-side computers before. I'm temporarily using my laptop (Also Dell, also Vista). I have a laptop USB hub, so needing extra USB ports wouldn't be a problem. I have my keyboard hooked up to the laptop, I have the old monitor running as a mirror display on the laptop.

So, my question, which I hope you experts can answer, is: what do I need to accomplish the task I have described?? Or, is it impossible? I would hate to lose all the music in that iTunes library, much of it was burned in from CDs, or came from sources other than the iTunes store. Thanks so much in advance for anything you can tell me!

Apparently the guy who installed the operating system on my computer used a pirated Windows because the boot-up includes a nasty message that my Windows isn't legitimate. Is there any way to simply de-activate this? Or will I have to re-install?

Thanks for your help.

A:every time i boot up i get a scolding message that my Windows is pirated

You can purchase a legal Windows XP O.S. and perform a Repair Install using the new license (Key Code), then turn his butt in to Microsoft

Perform a Repair Installation

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

If you have xp sp2 installed it needs to be incorporated into your xp disk or it will not offer the repair option only the clean install.

I have an HP with an AMD processor and I downloaded Microsoft service pack 3, now it won't start up. It just keeps restarting itself over and over. It won't even boot in safe mode, so I can't even do system restore. I'm trying to solve this issue without having to wipe the computer out. I think I found some instructions about how to fix this.
Here is the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum?

however I followed this step on STEP 2:
4. At the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS> prompt, type the following: rename intelppm.sys XXXintelppm.sy

and it says "This system cannot find the file or directory specified."

What do I do now?

thank you, your help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Windows service pack 3 errors, need help with last step to rename intelppm.sys

If you've gone to the correct directory, following the instructions, then the file you are looking for just can't be found, so you can't continue with those steps.

One question, did you actually get a blue screen with that error code? "Computer Restarts after Displaying Stop Error 0x0000007E (After Updating with Service Pack 3 for Windows XP)" Or did you just find that HP help site based on the fact you installed SP3 and had issues?

Hi and Welcome to TSF

You gots lots to do...LOL Please move hijackthis to the root of C:\ and NOT in a temp folder.

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 addon cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove the following if listed.

I think it defaults to updating the time every 7 days, but you can change this setting from within the registry. Let's say you want to change it to update the time daily. Open regedit, and go to the following key...

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
Find the value that says SpecialPollInterval. Now there are 86400 seconds in a day, so double click the key, change the Base to "decimal", and input 86400 as the value. The time should now update daily. You can choose your own time in seconds if you like.

Dummy here accidently clicked to "always perform same action" after inserting a pen drive into USB port, and of course it is the wrong action. Any way of changing this default? I assume this is some form of Registry key that needs to be changed. TIA

Is there a way that when I click a java script link on a web page to print something it can skip the print window and just do the same action every time. I'd like to skip the print window so I don't have to click ok every time. Not sure if there's a setting in windows for this. I'm using Windows 7. I'd install an add-on for Firefox or windows if there is one. I'm using Firefox 3.5.2.

Hi, I am trying to install the latest version of Xsplit which I know has nothing to do with this forum, but whenever I try to install it I get the error in the title; "Could not access VBscript run time for custom action".

I have Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1, fully updated.

I have tried multiple Fix It solutions, none of which have had any effect.

I have also tried this solution which I was able to find on the internet:

"For 64bit Windows:

1. Run Command Prompt as Administrator

2. Type reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}" /f and press Enter

3. Type c:\windows\syswow64\regsvr32 vbscript.dll and press Enter"

The registry key is never found, even when I try the 32-bit windows equivalent. However, the "c:\windows\syswow64\regsvr32 vbscript.dll" produces a success message when run.

I am running the command prompt in administration mode and the installer of Xsplit as administrator as well.

I have posted on the xsplit forums and they have been completely unable to help. I really hope help can be found here

Regards

Elbazonator.

I may have never noticed this in Windows 10 but after the 1607 anniversary update was released I noticed that Mail notifications that turned on the Action Center Icon and the Email subject and sender information in the action center, over time, would disappear without any intervention on my part. To be clear an email notification would arrive and the Action Center Icon would change to indicated that a notification was received and the details of that notification were listed in the action center but (A) I did not click on the action center icon (B) I did not open the built-in Mail application and (C) I did not open Outlook 2010. However, after being absent from my PC for a period of time, I noticed that the action center icon was no longer showing a notification and when I did finally open the action center there were no notifications there either. What I seem to remember was that prior to the 1607 anniversary update, if you clicked on the action center icon the icon would remove the notification highlighting but to actually remove the notifications themselves from the action center I had to either clear the individual notification or clear all notification or open Outlook 2010 and download my mail.

So, is this the behavior that others are seeing? If so, is there a way to control this so notifications simply don't disappear on their own?

Hello,

I have created and stored images of my C and D (restore partition on C: drive) drives (using Macrium Reflect) on an external drive in case of an emergency.

I thought, it will be better to have a step-by-step guide in case my hard drive fails. My experience tells me that though these things sound simple, in reality they are NOT that simple when done hands on.

Is there such a guide or a link to such a guide ?

Thanks a LOT

Hello,

Before I registered here I decided to check around the internet, unfortunately the guides offered on other pages I could not understand.

Here is what I have:

Windows 7 (not sure if 32 or 64)

Anyway out of nowhere my disk space has almost reached it's maximum 447GB. I am limited to certain things I can do on my computer.

I would appreciate step by step guide on how to solve this error as I am a computer noob. Also if you suggest I should use some partition analyser etc. I can only use free-one so if you can list one which is good/virus-free and safe to use, please do so.

Thank you.

A:In need of Detailed step by step guide to sort out Low disk space erro

Ok I have just discovered the issue, turns out I record alot of hosting video's now that I have deleted them disk spaces has just gone down and 400GB free!

Hiya

Putting this in here, in case other miss it, as its also in Security. Sticking for a week

A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Step-by-Step Interactive Training because of the way that Step-by-Step Interactive Training handles bookmark link files. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a malicious bookmark link file that could potentially allow remote code execution if a user visited a malicious Web site or opened a malicious attachment that was provided in an e-mail message. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. However, user interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Service Pack 1 (Itanium)
Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003 (Itanium)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Itanium-based Systems and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with SP1 for Itanium-based

I've always wanted to know how to do this on my own. Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to completely erase all information from one of my hard disks (I have two) and leave all the information on the other disk. Then how to re-install windows XP and all the necessary drivers etc. Then (I know this is really getting complex) could someone tell me the best possible anti-virus software and anti-spyware software available (preferably free). And I don't think I need a firewall because I have a router, am I correct? Finally I would like to know how to create and employ a rescue-disk. Thank-you so much for the help, I will probably use this info for years to come.

Was soooo much easier with Win 98. The only one I can get to install successfully is the 52.16 (nvidia) from the Win update site.
The others I have downloaded(from nvidia) will not install, no matter what hoops I jump through.

Here is the way I am trying it...what am I doing wrong?

First I uninstall the nvidia drivers in "add, remove...etc.

Reboot to safe mode and use a driver remover program.

Reboot and try to cancel the "new hardware found" message, and run the "exe" file for the XP certified drivers I have downloaded...reboot...No drivers installed

Then, I reboot and let Windows try to use the "new hardware found" program...and point it to the driver files I have downloaded...and it says they are not compatible(nvidia says they are "certified for XP" so why do I get this message?

There has got to be an easier way to update your video card drivers than this mess!
