I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

When my sister first got her laptop, in the first hour mind you! my brother-in-law was doing whatever he thought he needed to do and first put himself on as a user, along with my sister. Only problem is, if you are on the computer under his user name everything is fine. Log on to my sisters account and the only thing you can get for a desktop display is solid colors. All the pictures are there. You can select any for desktop background but nothing ever shows up. She was so looking forward to changing her desktop to different pictures with the seasons or her mood. I've determined I'm going to help her change this situation but I've tried everything I know to do, please help me. I can find my way around a computer but this is beyond me. Please help

A friend recently bought an Inspiron 3847 tower. I helped set up the computer and install some software. I left. I planned to come back after MS Office finished installing. At some point the screen started rapidly flashing bright solid colors.
Pressing keys on the keyboard didn't make it stop. I tried unplugging the monitor. I heard Windows play the device disconnect sound so I guess the operating system wasn't frozen. I tried powering off and on the monitor. I pressed the power button to put the computer to sleep. I assumed the computer was set to go to sleep if the power button is briefly pressed. I thought doing that might help if the problem was graphics driver related. I woke up the computer, saw the Dell logo, and again saw the rapid bright flashing of solid colors. I tried putting the computer to sleep and waking it a couple more times. I found that wouldn't help so I held down the power button to switch off the computer. After switching on the computer the flashing didn't happen and Windows normally started.
What caused the flashing? How do I fix it? We need this computer to work correctly and be reliable.

A:Inspiron 3847 Solid Flashing Colors

I looked through the Windows Update installation log. I found a graphics driver update failed to install. I guess the computer failed to switch over to the new driver or go back to the old one before restarting. I reset Windows 10 because there were more problems than failed updates. After starting over I made sure updates from Dell's update program were installed correctly. The updates from Windows Update installed, too. So far, the computer is OK.

Hello all,

This might be difficult to describe... bare with me.

When I set a wallpaper to my desktop that has near solid color (like the attachment I have provided), I can stare at it and watch the grey color change hues ever so slightly. It's almost like waves or ripples. When I view the picture in Photo Viewer, it's fine. This only happens when I set it as a wallpaper.

I hope someone knows what I am talking about. Lol

Please help if you know anything about this. Thanks!

EDIT: Actually, just viewing that attachment allows me to experience the same issue. This is frustrating... anyone else see what I am seeing?

A:Wallpapers with Solid Colors Changing Hues!

So I might have solved it with my own troubleshooting. I figured it had something to do with power settings since it looked like Windows was trying to adaptively change the wallpaper. I made my own power plan and changed the adaptive power setting to off. Rebooted and now it's working as intended.

Hello, I recently began experiencing stability issues with my PC, and I haven't had much luck searching for answers.

The issues began about 1 month ago, when the computer began crashing at random. The computer would stop responding, and show a solid color or stripes on the displays (i.e. both screens completely white, One screen black, one screen green, or left screen white, right screen black and red horizontal stripes.) Upon restarting the computer, it would make it into windows, and then immediately crash again in the same way. The computer eventually locked up while bootting after 3 or so cycles of this, and the mobo display would not advance past "A3" after several restarts. i turned the computer off for several hours, and eventually was able to get it running again by hitting the reset buttong on the motherboard, at which point it worked fine for the next month until today.

The issues began occuring again, and it has now happened 5 times in relatively close succession. After the first crash, it crashed immediately after getting into windows upon restart. The next restart after reseting the mobo let the computer run for about 5 minutes before crashing again. I turned the computer off for 10-15 minutes, and it ran for approximately 30-40 minutes before crashing again. I turned it off, reset the mobo, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then was able to get it running for another 20 minutes before crashing in the same way.

the first problem you need to address is this
Partition 0
Partition ID Disk #0, Partition #0
Disk Letter C:
File System NTFS
Volume Serial Number 727FF557
Size 43 GB
Used Space 43 GB (98%)
Free Space 845 MB (2%)

your OS is on partition C of your SSD drive
that partition is 43GB
you have as you can see less than 1GB of free space

the SSD is as you can see above 149GB
the other partition is

Partition 1
Partition ID Disk #0, Partition #1
Disk Letter M:
File System NTFS
Volume Serial Number CE312F45
Size 99 GB
Used Space 68 GB (68%)
Free Space 31.3 GB (32%)
43 GB is a little small but providing you ensured there is nothing there except the OS you may have got away with it
YOU need to create more free space on that
C partition
That is your first job
Get at least 4GB

To start the job boot F8 Safe Mode
examine C and see what is there that can be either moved or uninstalled
For instance if your user files are there

move them
DO NOT move the user folder

Hello, everyone. I am using Windows 10 Anniversary Edition.

I have a question about setting solid colors for the desktop background.

I am currently in Settings/Personalization/Background. I've set the Background option to Solid Colors. There is a limited quantity of colors. If I recall correctly, previous versions of Windows let you select a wider variety of colors, and also had the color wheel, from which you could select various shades of the colors.

Also, I noticed there is no solid white!

What I've done to work around this was to use paint.net to create jpg images, containing solid blocks of whichever colors I want. I put all of the jpg images in one file, then set the background to Slide Show, pointing it to that folder.

But I'm really surprised Windows 10 has a far more limited palette. Is there any way to widen the number of solid colors, or am I limited to what's there?

Thank you! Jd

Funny enough I had this issue while typing this post.  Very random.  It hard locks and goes to assorted solid color on each of my monitors.  Have to force power off the machine.  Only notable thing (which I have just done) is to install the older driver (nvidia) that was released before the issue started as that is exactly when I started having the problem when I had a video driver update.  I had since done a clean install and again used latest drivers for my vid card and still having issue.  If issue persists I will let you know.
Other items I've tested.
> Windows memory tester passed
> AIDA64 stability tester on each component for 10+ minutes each and then all at once for 10+ minutes
> Tested my PSU (using 2 seperate PSU testers)  and both passed.
> Clean install
> After issue happened I installed Chipset drivers and issue happened again since (isolating chipset drivers as an issue)
> Temps are under 100 degrees (F) and so is GPU so likely not a temp issue.  Under a load my PC maxes out about 120 (F) and my GPU about 160 (F) both not bad for a 100% load.
When I did the downgrade it notably did not downgrade experiance or physic drivers.  If issue happens again I will run the nividia driver cleaner and see if the issuer still happens using windows stock oem drivers for nividia.

I recently bought a new computer for my in-laws. Here is the problem: The screen constantly changed colors. They thought at first it was the monitor and had it replaced. Was ok for a week then changing colors started again. This time even worse. Besides the changing colors the screen would go completely black or completely white on startup. I thought it was the video card so I changed that. It worked fine for 3 days then the monitor starting changing to a shade of purple. Any other ideas on what the problem could be? Could it be the power bar? or some kind of interference from something else? Thanks.

A:flickering screen colors

Definately sounds like a hardware problem. Never heard of that happening but here's a few things to check out.

-Open the case and verify all the hardware are properly seated in their slots (vid card, ram, etc).

-Find your motherboard documentation, go into BIOS and verify that all the hardware settings are correct (front side bus settings, voltages for ram, cpu if your motherboard supports overclocking). Having the incorrect settings can make your computer highly unstable and potentially damage your hardware.

-(This is unlikely to fix it, but hey..) In Windows, right click on the desktop, go into "properties", click the "settings" tab, click "advanced", and click on the "performance" tab, and set the hardware acceleration bar all the way to the left. Save and reboot and see if you still get color problems.

-It's possible you have a faulty power supply. Try replacing yours with another one with same voltage that's known to be good.

-Finally, open up the case, and make sure the motherboard is mounted properly, and make sure it has a good ground to that chassis. If not grounded properly, your hardware can receive unwanted voltage spikes which can cause huge hardware problems and potentially damage your hardware components.

I'm sure other members here can provide better advice. These were just a few things off the top of my head that i would check if i had that problem. Good luck!

Hello. Lately my screen is flickering while I play games (or even watching movies) and it's quite frustrating... Actually I noticed it starts flickering after an hour I open my pc, and it's going crazy especially when the screen displays bright colors. I see vertical white lines flickering fast.

I had this problem in the past (9 months ago) but it started again yesterday; I don't know what's wrong.
My monitor is a LG W2241S (connected on pc with DVI wire) and my GPU is a GeForce 9600GT. Running under Windows 7 x64.

I searched all over the net for solution how to stop it but nothing really worked. Any idea what can be wrong?

Ok so just recently, I got a new EVGA GTS 450 SuperClocked, and when I was putting the card in, I accidentally broke the retention clip at the end, though I heard it doesn't really do much other than get in the way :P *I screwed in my card don't worry ;)*, but anyway so I installed the drivers and all that good stuff, but when I watch online videos like on Youtube, in the beginning of the video, the video itself will flicker and flash weird colors, HOWEVER, when you see the trailers and stuff at the top of the Youtube homepage, No problem, IF I PLAY GAMES, No problem.

I don't know if its my graphics card or maybe some weird compatibility issue, but the problem is ONLY on streaming online videos, and ONLY where the videos is framed, NOT the rest of the screen.

Please help!

BTW I love this card xD I can play BF3 on ALL HIGH, avg 40FPS

Hello, I bought my Dell Vostro 3460 as a refurbished laptop and it has the latest drivers installed. Currently the video bios is 2130.0, driver version for Intel HD graphics 4000. I have noticed the colors on my laptop screen would flicker and colors would be inverted (blue to yellow etc) and then the screen would go blank/black. I have plugged in an external monitor and the monitor display would work fine. unable to mirror to two screens, extend display to monitor and laptop screen as laptop screen would go blank, the display on laptop is black. Is this result of drivers, wiring in laptop to the laptop screen or result of internal video chip GPU overheating so it may be a heatsink and video chip contact issue (thermal paste). When laptop is cool the display will display properly, I'm able to sign in and boot up laptop. I've seen laptop users experiencing similar issues on the Dell forums regarding many different laptops.
Help with suggestions please.

Hello, Can any body tell me how I can paint SOLID COLORS with the new brushes like I used to in MS Paint vista & XP ??

A:MS PAINT brushes will not paint solid colors

Hi Ely Greenhut,
It is weird that you cannot paint solid colors. Have you chosen the correct colors before starting to paint anything? Does the issue occur every time you use the Paint program?
Please open Paint program, choose the color you like and then select the type of brush you need. If you cannot do this, it?s better for you to upload some Screenshots to SkyDrive so that we can see what happened. Also, please do not forget provide us the link for analyzing.
At the same time, let?s try the following suggestions to check the issue.
 1.    Create a new account to test the issue 2.   Run System File Checker to check the system files
If any system files cannot be fixed, please also upload the sfcdetails.txt to SkyDrive and we will check them for you. Or there is no problem with the Paint program and you are just not fimiliar with it in Windows 7, the following two sites are attached for reference. I have installed Windows ME and the display is in 16 colors. I have an ATI Technologies Rage Orion Video card. I suspect that I need an update driver or a ME update. Under System Summary>Problem Devices> I have the following lines:

IRQ Holder for PCI Steering PCI\IRQHOLDER\62 error code 22

Under Components>Display> I have the following:
Name: STD PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)

Adapter Description: (STD display type)
Bits/Pixels: 0
Driver: c;\windows\system\VMM32.vxd (,1,019.88KB (1,044,352 bytes) not available)

I found updated drivers for Rage 128 that should work with the Rage Orion and within ME. I can not install them because I get an error during installation that states I need DirectX 8 installed. I downloaded DirectX 9 (dxwebsetup) via my other computer to a floppy and tried to open it on the computer in question. It starts to install but quits because of an error that states "try later or check network". Is that the only way I can install DirectX which is needed to install new drivers? Is there another way to fix the 16 colors to 32 colors?????

A:Solved: Display in 16 colors-Want 32 colors. Do I need a new driver?

does your motherboard have an on-board video? if it does, enable your video via bios and uninstall (add/remove hardware) your video card. if you can access the internet then try downloading DirectX. install your video card afterwards. or if you dont ahve on-board video and can access the internet, download directx directly and see what happens try installing your driver again. good luck with windows me.

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Ive been looking at PC parts for about a year now, so I know at this point about which parts (mostly CPUS and GPUS) are which and when the next gens come out (like how piledriver comes next month presumeably)
But I cant justify $650 without being rather certain of myself.
so here is the parts list:
Rosewill challenger U3
Crucial 8 GB DDR3 1600 Dual channel 240 pin
Cooler Master hyper 212 EVO
Samsung Spinpoint F4 7200 RPM 320 GB (its cheap right now, althought seagate=meh hopefully I wont have bad luck)
Sapphire 2GB 7850 100355L
Rosewill green series 630W RG630-S12 (will update if/when I crossfire later on)
MSI 970A-G46 (chipset 970, has x16 and x8 in xfire mode)
some cheap wireless thing already got.

I already have all peripherals.
total price is $665 with shipping.

so yea, thats about it.

A:Solid build?

Looks good, but on a bit of a prejudiced note, you may want to look at getting a different power supply, since Rosewill don't have the greatest track record when it comes to PSUs. Also that case is a nightmare to try get clean, so If you don't want the amazon jungle inside your case I highly suggest you take a look at some of Antec or Coolermaster's budget cases.
apart from that, the rest looks good to me.

2) They can see your router from their end.

Does anyone in here still use SE v12 or at least HAVE used it and might be able to offer up some assitance with it.
I have a 3ghz/1gb/matrox parhelia128 computer that runs it great for the most part, whenever i go to rotate the 3d model, after say 20 seconds of rotating it sorta just freezes for a second or 4
sometimes for longer.
our support for SE is nonexistant and the phone service is giving me the run around, so getting an update is just about short of impossible. how is v16?

Is it backward compatible? If i use v12 to make something, and have someone using 16 open it, would it cause problems for the document?

A:Solid Edge V12

I'm sorry I can't help you with your problem, but I found this thread through Google, and I'd like to ask a question about a problem of my own, which is a bit similar to yours...
I just started at Helsinki University of Technology and I have a machine design course where we use Solid Edge v15... The university has an academic license for it and they are giving it for the students to borrow home so they don't have to use campus computers to do their works for that course. I borrowed it, of course, but it says it won't install, cause the program is for win2000 or XP only... I have windows 98...
Does anyone know what is the latest version of SE that supports windows 98?
And if so, I repeat the question of the previous poster: Does v15 have backward compatibility? We're not using very advanced features, so I think I might be able to do my work with an older version...

Had a major malfunction with my laptop over the weekend and had to replace the harddrive.. lost a few things but I had backups on an external hdd thankfully. One thing I noticed during the whole situation was that my system restore points had been deleted somehow, I researched and found that Defraggler deletes them sometimes, but who knows it could have been something else.

I'm looking for a good defrag program that won't do that.. I noticed Auslogics Disk Defrag in the stickied topics up top but just wanted to ask and make sure it doesn't do anything like that. Also I want a really good backup program. I was using the default backup thing on Vista (set to backup once a week) but when I check my external hdd, there are backups from last year hogging up space..

If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it

A:Looking for 2 solid programs

I use Auslogics and am 100% happy with its performance. You can analyze your HD first to see if a defrag is necessary. Its does a better job than the Vista program included as defrag with the OS.
If you want awesome free software to back up, I use Macrium Relfect, it is awesome

One of this days i will buy my first solid state drive.
So i need an expert advice, especially from someone who already has ssd.
First : Most of all worries me the compatibility issue with my GA-X38-DS4 motherboard,i don't want to throw the money for nothing. And i didn't found anything in the web about this.
Second: IF IS NOT THERE ANY COMPATIBILITY ISSUE!! Then....Which one is better, faster?
A) Corsair Force Series F80A - solid state drive - 80 GB - SATA-300
B) OCZ Agility 2 Series - Solid state drive - 80 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300
C) OCZ Vertex 2 Series - Solid state drive - 80 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300

A:My first solid state.

As long as you have SATA ports on your motherboard, SSD drives will work.

Faster is often a result of which benchmark you used. The biggest bang for the buck with any SSD is it's 0.1ms access times to files anywhere on the drive. You will get that from any of the SSD's that you pick. Your read/write speeds may be marginally better on one drive versus another, but unless you are continously reading and writing large files...it probably won't be noticeable in day-to-day computer use.

Personally, I think OCZ has a great reputation and the Vertex 2 line has been solid. I would pick that one if it were me.

Keep getting unwanted pop ups or similar from Solid Peer, Free6, and Old Games. Some are pornographic. Any ideas of how to stop this please?

A:Solid Peer and Pop Ups

What operating system are you using? XP has a "pop-up blocker", or you can download them from the net. Here's a search I did through Google.

Hey ya'll, I'm currently running an older version of Solid Edge. I have a pretty decked out computer and video card and for some reason when im viewing some 3d rendered objects, when im moving them sometimes it will slow down a bit, stop, then catch up with itself.
It's kinda begining to be a hassle, anyone know if why this might happen.
my video card meets the standards that the program requires to run all 3d models.

A:Solid Edge V12

How much RAM you have in the "pretty decked out computer"? Plus when did U defrag the PC last? Scan for Spyware?

What amount of hardisk space you have free?

Really if U post more info., it makes it easier to respond.

Good luck

I have spent COUNTLESS hours trying to solve WHY my son's PC is Freezes up all the time, and I'm too broke to have a technician look at it and tell me i'm !**%&[email protected]!

This is a computer a friend gave him years ago, and had erased the hard drive. We re-installed windows on it, and it has been doing fine for years.

It's a Dell Dimension 4400, windows XP home.
It has never been hooked up to internet, so no viruses.
He plays little kid games only. (Real little kid; ZOO Tycoon is the most sophisticated.)
NO new software has been added for about almost a year.
No new hardwrae added.
It has adequate ventilation.
I have reinstalled all the drivers (keyboard, mouse and CD Rom)
Device Manager tells me everything is groovy.
There are no peripherals installed.

Some days, the thing works fine, and he can play for a couple hours.
Some days we turn the thing on and it freezes while loading!
It just freezes up at random times.
Also, the CD Drive won't allow me to write on it anymore! It will read the CD, but I can't copy files to it.
I checked the internet on my computer, but couldn't find a matching CD drive update to try to install. (doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I can't find it!)

When it "Freezes", I can't pull up the cntr/alt/del trick, all we can do is hit the power button. Yes, the NUM Lock is ON and doesn't go off. If we try to turn it on again, even after 5 minutes, it simply WON'T even turn o... Read more

I would strongly suspect hardware at this stage, rather than software.

In reality it could be anything from the PSU (Power Supply Unit) to RAM or motherboard.

That you get no error messages is salient, in that hardware is more likely than software as the culprit.

I haven't bought a router in a year or two. I have several WRT54GL's in use as subnet routers and a few cheap TPLinks I'm using to extend a few subnets. My "gateway" is an RT-N66U that I've been happy with.

However, my neighbor needs to replace his old wrt router in which the DHCP server is malfunctioning. While we're at it, I'll be adding a router to extend his signal(we'll be connecting the two via cat6 rather than wireless).

So, I'm perusing amazon ratings now, but thought it wisdom to find out what routers some of y'all have used & recommend as far as:

Stability & quality
Use of bandwidth
Cost, accounting for above factors.

He doesn't game or download huge files, so it doesn't need to be some super powerful fast router. It doesn't even have to be dual band. He's buying 2, so the cost/quality ratio should be reasonable.

Thanks for any recommendations.

A:Solid Router Recomendation

Just comment.

For router brand & model, it is best to check as each ISP preference.
That is to say, do understand what are the requirements needed for broadband connection.
ISP may test on certain (few) brand on routers.
This is to avoid any interruption as ISP are not liable for intermittent connection and wireless issue due to router.
As they are not liable for router issue, which you may have to deal with it yourself. (Or seek help)
Router do able to used for 3 years or more, without any problem, ex mine router.

Before you commit to sign up to an ISP, do research by yourself, as each user has it own devices.
Likewise, each user will give you a different answer to your question points.
So it is better to check on those already sign up to ISP(s) do compare and most important is reliable & stable connection.

My "gateway" is an RT-N66U that I've been happy with.

You can continue to use first, before commit yourself to a new router which may work or not.

Bought recently the new XPS 13 and have a weird problem.
The battery indicator always shows a solid amber light when it is plugged in (100% battery) and what is more strange when it's turned off.
I have updated BIOS although I think I had the latest one anyway.
There are no other evident problems.
Please advise, thanks.

A:New XPS 13 - solid amber light always on

The battery charge LED for the XPS 13 will glow amber if the battery is low on charge.  With the AC adapter connected and the system turned off the battery should charge fairly quickly and then the LED should turn white indicating that the battery is no longer low in charge and is being charged. Once fully charged the LED should go dark.
Battery Charge LED —
LED that indicates battery charge state.

Illuminates white while plugged in and charging. When the charging is completed LED turns off.

Battery level is low, LED illuminates in amber color.
Please reply back if it looks like the system is having problems charging the battery.

I was wondering, with 400 Dolars to spend on HDs, which one do i choose?
I will never use more than 500 GB, which i think is too much.
And i wanted a fast drive, like an SSD.
But i heard that SSDs have a short-life, and they're speed are decreased according to its age.

So, what would be better?
Buy 4x 250 GB 7200 RPM HDs and make Raid 4

Or 1x 128 SSD and a 500 GB for storage

Better that you should read these articles first:

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and i hope i posted my question in the correct section.

I am having issue setting up 2 different solid color backgrounds on a dual monitors setup. I can do the different background pictures on different monitor but not solid color. Does anyone know how to configure two different colored background on dual monitor?

Thank you

A:Have 2 Different Solid Colored Backgrounds

Hi there,

It's not possible to set the background colour different for each monitor. But you can tweak the system.

Make a 'picture' in Paint with the appropriate colour and save it. Then make that the background picture for your screen and select the option to fill the picture to the screen. Do this for both screens.

There are a few things you need to know, about Solid State Drives, before you upgrade your computer/laptop/netbook to this newest technology.

1. Do you have a SATA or IDE Controller?

Most drives are designed for SATA, though there are some IDE (aka: ATA and PATA) drives available also. To know which one you need, look inside your computer, or check out the specs/details of your laptop/netbook.
If you have a computer, open the case and locate your hard drive. Look at the wires on the back of your hard drive.

2. Internal vs. External
External drives are mostly for portable data, like a USB flash drive, so an internal drive is the best option for an SSD drive, so it can make your Operating System (Windows, Mac OSX, Linux) faster and more responsive.

3. Capacity
The most common sizes are 32, 64, 128 and 256 Gigabytes (GB). The operating system will use about 10 GB of space, so make sure you leave enough free space for your applications, games, files and so on. I would recommend getting a minimum of 64 GB, and up to 128GB, unless you have a big budget.

64GB sounds about right to me, for the OS and programs, with a nice Caviar Black for your data.

Good day ladies and gents,

I am seeking an elegant and highly efficient method for my needs. All suggestions are appreciated. There seems to be more than one way to get what I need done but keeping the application running quick is important. It's highly likely that I will need assistance after deciding which path to take. Thanks in advance

The need:
- This is an ideal flow but it is malleable.
A user is going about their business and already has the ap open. They need a new record and the first control they click into on the form is [SSN] "frm_MAIN". As they type numerical characters, options in the combobox or form begin to narrow until they finish the number or they click on one of the listed options. Upon selection of the record, data from the respective fields in "dbo_MBMSTRTB"(table) are placed into the respective fields of "tbl_MAIN" and represented on the driving Access form "frm_MAIN" for further editing.

Current state:
The Access application this will be built on has been in production for about 6 or 7 years. Users are comfortable with the flow but have been asking for "search as you type", "auto-population", and "document generation" functionality. Search as you type and auto-population are essentially the same task and for this thread, are our primary focus however, document generation is related because I will need the auto population functionality in order to achieve a one button docume... hi all
i am thinking of using a solid state drive for the operating system and would be grateful for any advice can i keep the drive i have now with win 7 home premium, and install another windows 7 (like ultimate): on the solid state drive??

A:Solid state drives

I don't think you can have two instances of Windows using the same license key, even on the same machine (unless you clone them, but then the drives should be identical). So basically you'll have to buy another copy of Windows. Other than that, SSD will make your machine way faster. the only catch is the limited number of write cycles, so I would follow the by now standard advice of moving your cache and temp folders to a RAM disk.
