Preferred Solution: IE will prompt for username&password many times when open a local html which need internet access with authorization needed proxy.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guyz,

Hoping anyone here can help me.
There is a website all staff from teh organisation have to access for work purposes however they all have to enter a generic username and password once prompted after going to the URL.
There is an attached file to show the password prompt i mean.

There is however 1 member of staff that doesnt have to enter the username and password now and has no idea how she has done this. She isnt even prompted to enter anything, the page, simply loads without asking for it.

Does anyone have an idea as to how this may have happened? i know its definately not just ticking the box to remember username and password, Because this would still prompt the user to enter a username and password even although its already saved and doesnt need typed in. The user just needs to click ok.
So its definately not this since there isnt even a prompt.
Any ideas?
anything for me to try and duplicate what has happened?

Cheers,

Hello friends,

When I connect to a target PC that has XP SP3 from a source PC that has Vista SP1 or XP SP3 using Windows Explorer, how can I make Explorer prompt for a different username/password? Because the login credential I am using on the source PC does not exist on the target PC I get "access denied" when trying to access a shared folder on target PC. If I login on source PC with a credential that exists on target PC I can access shared folder without problem. When I access target PC from a source PC that has Win 2K Pro SP4, Explorer will prompt for a different username/password. How can I make XP and Vista do the same thing as Win2K and prompt for a different username/password?

Thank you for any help.

A:Prompt for different username, password when connect to another PC

Here is the solution I found, in case someone else comes across this article.

I disabled the Guest Account in the target XP PC.

To disable Guest Account in XP open Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management (or type in Start, Run "compmgmt.msc /s")

Expand System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Users

Right click on Guest and select Properties

Put check in "Account is disabled"

Hi guys

Im trying to activate the administrator account, which requires administrative access however when trying to do a Run As on cmd It says "to continue, type and administrator password, and then click yes. Though there is no username and password prompt box appearing so all i can do is click "no".

Same goes for doing anything that requires administrative rights to do, there is never a prompt for a username and password just the option of clicking "no"

What is going on?

A:Run As administrator, no prompt for username and password ? wtf

Use safe mode!!!

Why bother offering to Run As administrator if the administrator account is disabled and then not tell the user why!!

Hi,

I searched this form and i could not find an answer to my question. Sorry if it already exists and i just over looked it.

I have a file sharing server and about 10 client computers that access files on this server.

What i would like to have is when each client computer wants to access any of the files on the server that they are prompted with a username\password dialog.

I do not want to create each user on server if i dont have to.

Can this be done?
If so how would one go about doing that?

Thanks in advance.

I am running a graphics workstation with a 1 gig AMD k-7 CPU, 512 meg RAM, SCSI hardrives, on a Windows 2000 Pro platform. I log onto the system as "Adminstrator."

A friend brought me a software program that he picked up in mainland China from his latest trip there. I installed the software with no difficulties, including a software lock, and rebooted. When I clicked on the program icon on Windows Desktop, I received a message that tells me that an adminstrative authorization is needed to complete the licensing process, and the program shuts down.

Is this a sign on issue created by 2000K Pro password protection, or is the included s/n number and CD key code bogus, creating a problem with the sodtware lock?

We have users on windows 7.  Most of the users are using outlook 2007.   We are on exchange 2007 on windows server 2008 Enterprise and the server resides on our office.  Anybody have any ideas how to figure out why the following happens?
A user will log into their computer just fine.  They launch outlook just fine and are working on the computer for hours.  All of a sudden outlook will prompt them for their username and password.  They can put their username and password in
and continue to work, but it may happen again within a few hours.  I have noticed if we do a ipconfig/ release/renew it has corrected the problem for the rest of the day.  It is so far only about 15 users/pcs who have seen this issue.  We have
replaced a user's pc to see if it fixes the issue, but the issue occured on the new pc as well.

A:Squid proxy-caching web server requires a username and password.

Sounds like you have installed something that requires this proxy server.

Let's have some real information about the environment.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

Hello,
We are currently in our pre-deployment test phase for Windows 8.1 and are trying to knock out the high visibility problems that we notice.  One of the issues we've noticed:
When logging into Windows, the default prompt is for a username/password.  all of our users are using smart cards, so they have to click "sign-in options", click the smart card icon, and then enter their PIN.  How would I change the startup
screen to default to smart card?

Also, when locking the screen by removing the card it again prompts for the username/password when unlocking the screen.  So the users again have to click on "sign-in options" and select the smart card, otherwise they risk locking out their
account by entering the PIN in the username/password field.

when locking the screen via ctrl-alt-del or windows-L unlocking does default to the smart card, so I know it can be done!

thanks,
-Nick

When I try to open a local html file (either by right clicking on it and opening with IE, or by loading IE and then dragging and dropping a file onto it), IE immediately crashes.

Specifically, it will come up with the crash popup window "Internet Explorer has stopped working". You click "Close the program" and it does it a second time (which is normal behaviour for how IE will try only twice, to avoid an infinite loop), and then you end up still in IE on that page that says "We were unable to return you to the page you were viewing."

It is not an issue with the code or content of the html file. Even a file that just says "hello" in it will crash this way.

Hello there,

As you all know some people use dial up connection. I am one of them. I would like to click my dialup and automatically connect rather than viewing the " Username and password window " as I have saved UN and PW anyway, Basically, I would like to make it fully automatic, now this is the problem as can be seen in the ATTACHMENT.

It shows, lack of options in windows 10 when it comes to tweaking options for dialup. So please help me on how to do it without the help of GUI. As I downloaded and install the same file to install my dialer, I know there has to be a way to " Remove the tickmark from highlighted fields in the above pic "

I can use regedit or stuff like that as I've been in it for awhile, so feel free to suggest me how to solve this problem.

Hello,

I am looking for some advise regarding the access to an external hard drive that I have set up on my wireless network.

When I try to do an automated Windows backup (off my Vista based laptop files) on to an external hard drive which is connected to my wireless network (through a Belkin router) I am being asked for a user name and password to access the connected hard drive on the network. The thing is that I don't remember setting up a username and password for the hard drive at all.

I can paste single files mannually onto the external hard drive without being asked for a username and password.

I did perform an automated Windows backup off my other Windows 7 laptop and was not ask for a username and password.

What am I missing? I am pretty sure it is an easy solution and it drives me crazy. Can you somebody advise where to find the username and password information please?

I have an application that needs to connect to authorize my purchase, but when it tries is unable to.

Here are somethings that I have tried/done to resolve this
1. Ran MSFT Network Monitor and see that the outbound IP address when trying to activate is 27.0.0.1:6092
2. Searched for network settings in IE, Chrome, etc to see if anything was set and found nothing.

4. Cleared out the settings in both of the keys above and tried the activation again only to find that the settings came back.

I have a Win 7 laptop and xp desktop on my network. When I try to access the xp desktop from the win 7 laptop, I sometimes get a dialog box requesting username/password. Other times I get a message box that I do not have permission to access the desktop. Other times still, everything works fine.

The xp can access the laptop no problem. The laptop can always see the desktop in the network, the problem is accessing it to share files or use a printer attached to the desktop.

I have no passwords on either computer. I have disabled passwords in the advanced network settings for home & work. Registry has LmCompatibilityLevel set to 3 on the laptop.

This is a common problem with win 7 networking with xp (but it usually is a consistent problem). I have not found a solution that has worked for me, despite trying many suggestions offered in this forum. Since the problem seems to occur randomly, it is very difficult to troubleshoot.

I would appreciate any ideas to rectify this.

A:Win 7 laptop requests username/password to access xp desktop

If you don't want problems with sharing between these two OP systems follow the guide in the link below. If you set up a Homegroup on the Windows 7 machine you will first want to leave the Homegroup before making these adjustments.

In general setting up a standard workgroup then setting the permissions and running the XP network set up wizard and turning off simple file sharing on the XP machine should work for this but if problems arise then setting up as per the link below will work.

Hello,

I have a new desktop A to replace my old desktop B. B was setup to file share (full access) independent of win 7 homegroup and was seen and accessed by my laptop (work).

Now the new desktop A can be seen by my laptop. The name AVA... (from the place I purchased it) is seen in the Network directory tree but I cannot access it. Neither the name or password will be accepted. It shows:

"Enter password to: AVA...

WORK\Shawn
[password space]....

Use another account

X The user name or password is incorrect."

Originally it had a different user name (probably AVA...) that I just switched to "Shawn".

(I did not test network between A and laptop before changing the name to "Shawn" so I cannot tell you if it worked before. Never thought there'd be a problem!)

A:Username/Password incorrect for network access to new desktop

SOLVED: Laptop ONLY recognizes original user name (Valued Customer) and not new user name (of same account). Weird.

Hi

This just started this morning. Upon going to be last night everything was working properly. And at 9am this morning, I can no longer access hotmail, messengers, games, AIM, work Email, and most forums that require a login. It just hangs at "connecting," and then times out. Normal websites work fine.

Websites and games will load, but anything that requires a login (at least most things that do) simply hang, or do not load. Sites like google, CNN, IGN, Facebook, etc load normally.

Thanks in advance.

Any ideas on this? I have been trying things all day. I'm currently running an Avast! virus scan, and another SpyBot scan.

My laptop is my work and play when I'm on the road, I'm at the end of my rope here. I need it back.

I've been looking around everywhere but cannot seem to figure out how to do this.  When I walk away from my laptop I always close the lid and when I come back I want to be prompted to enter my password but I don't want the laptop to go into sleep mode
or hibernate when I close the lid.  All I want is to be prompted for my password when I open the lid again, so something like switching users would do (not stop any running tasks or programs, just bring me back to the user selection page)
Thanks for any help

A:Prompt for password when I open laptop lid

Hi,

Please understand if your computer joined the domain, it would always ask for password when open the lid. Now please change Power Option settings to disable sleep
function.

1) Right Click the power icon on your taskbar and select "Power Options".
2) Next to your active/selected Power Option, Click "Change Plan Settings".
3) Click "Change Advanced Power Settings".
4) Under "Power Buttons and Lid", make sure "Lid Close Action" is set to "Do Nothing".

If that is not the case, then it could be due to some Power Management options in the system BIOS.

One of my computers on our domain network which is behind a proxy keeps asking for a username and password every time I try to access any kind of webinar. It can be a normal internet webinar site or a company intranet site but either way it will keep asking for the user name and password.

In the past I have always been able to access webinar content without a problem. Yesterday I had to enter my domain, user name, and password to access the company benefits webinar and, not anticipating that new layer of information, missed the first 5 minutes or so of the company webinar. This morning I TRIED to access a webinar test in preparation for a webinar from IBM I am schedulled to attend at 11. After entering the same information about 20 TIMES, I was still not able to access the test webinar video. Every time I pressed play in the video window, another 10 or so popup windows asked for the same information.

does anyone know why or how this can happen? How would I go about fixing this as my computer seems to be the only computer in our network like this. Thanks!

A:Internet Explorer Keeps Asking for Username and Password

one thing that I noticed was that if I put some websites under intranet zone, then it would stop asking me for usernames and passwords but a lot of these sites are not intranet sites and are internet sites....I shouldn't have to keep adding random sites into my intranet zone in order to stop the username and password from keep popping up....any ideas on how I can fix this?

Hi, I recently installed Apache, PHP, etc etc into my comp to set up my home computer into a self server to access certain files from outside computers. When I input my IP address into IE, firefox, etc i am prompted by a username and password prompt to gain access to my files. Now I have tried every username password etc trying to figure out what it can be. Just spent 4 hours googling for information about where this info could be stored on my vista 32 comp. Anyone able to help me with information about where i would go in vista to retrieve and change this information so that i may access it from an outside source comp. I have shutoff firewalls etc everything to see if it would go away and no matter what i do its there so its a setting on my computer but dont know where in vista, anyone?????

Have had Linksys WRT54G router for about a year now. No problems. A little over a month ago it quit connecting to the internet and the only way I can connect to the internet is to click on the dsl icon and enter username and password. I bought my daughter an ACER laptop for Christmas. You could see the router in the list. No problem. Now she has to click on the dsl icon to connect. There are no available wireless connections now on either computer. We also have a Wii and it connected with no problem, but now it will not connect either. Went to router setup and changed the connection type to PPPoE and entered the username and password for the dsl, but it did not work either... I have not upgraded the firmware...do you think that would solve these issues?

I have three different MS Access 2003 applications that run on a SQL backend. For the Access front ends, I am utilizing Jet (.mdw file) for User level security. Scope of the applications has increased to where we are using eForms across multiple business sites. What I would like to do is enhance user security by tapping into Jet through vba before an activity is recorded under that user's name and date stamped, which is something as close to an electronic signature that Access could get I think. This would be a separate step from initial application log on, which I already have users do.
Ideally, the user would press a button to 'sign' a form, the vba subroutine would prompt the user to enter his application password, then verify the password against the users mdw file and then stamp the record with user name and date.
I know how to do everything except the password verification part. I am familiar with DAO, ADO and ADOX protocols within vba but all I can find is code to set up a new user and assign a password, but not verify a self-prescribed password of a user.
Does anybody have any comments, suggestions?
Many thanks.

A:Solved: Prompt for user password in MS Access vba

ctwest, sorry for the delay in responding, but Access questions are best posted on the Business Applications forum, even though yours is a programming question.
If you haven't found an answer to this question yet, you do not need to prompt users for their password to identify them.
Access knows who they are when they have logged on, you can identify them using the CurrentUser or Application CurrentUser.

I previously routinely logged into my daughters computer (running Vista Business X64 behind the firewall at her university's network) via TS Web Access. She upgraded the system to Windows 7 Ultimate to solve a video card issue and now the Remote Desktop login fails.  I can get to the machine through the gateway but it gives the "The username or password in incorrect message" on every attempt.I can have someone log using Remote Desktop from the internal network just fine using the absolute same username/password.I have had her check all of the remote settings multiple times (I have seached this one extensively).  Can anyone suggest what the problem may be and a solution.  Or even a method to diagnose would be helpful. This is a critical issue for me since she is near clueless.

A:The username or password is incorrect when attempting login to remote computer running Windows 7 Ultimate via TS Web Access

I found my own answer to this issue after I got acces to the machine physically and was able to view the security logs for the failed login attempts.  For some reason windows seven required that I use the entire computer name \\computer name\account name\ to get to the machine whereas Vista did not require full name.  Problem solved as long as I use the full name convention for the computer as expectedf behind the ts gateway.  Also don't pass the ts gateway credentials on to the remote computer as this causes it to want to log on with those creditials at the machine.

So, my laptop hard drive looks to have some serious problems. Essentially I can't boot, and get these serious error messages that I won't go into for the moment. It's covered by a warranty, and I'll be taking it in to get it fixed.

My problem is that I would like to get my sensitive files off of the drive before taking it in.

Here's the general situation:

-I don't have an installation CD for this laptop (XP Pro). It's a refurb.

-I do have an installation CD for XP Home Edition.

-I AM able to boot from that installation CD.

-I am able to boot and get to the Recovery Console.

-I can navigate around a bit, and see directories. It appears that my documents are intact.

-HOWEVER, my important documents are all in "My Documents" and "My Documents seems to be password protected. I'm also not 100% sure that I'm entering the directory correctly, given the spaces.

My question(s):

-How can I access a password protected directory from the command prompt? If I type in cd c:\"Documents and Settings" I get an access denied error. I figure there must be a way to include a password in the change directory command. Am I wrong?

Many thanks for your help.
EDITED TO ADD: I have an external hard drive available that I can connect, and move my files if that's possible.

i have been the internet (for a couple of months) with no problems, everything was working fine but a couple of weeks ago my 'access' started to change and say local only, stopping me from viewing certain websites, pictures would not load and would then take to to the 'cannot display webpage'. when i try to diagnose it, it either says that windows could not find a problem with the connection, 'the problem has been resolved' (though it doesn't say what the problem actually was, and it isn't resolved as a couple of minutes later it will do it again), or it gives me the option to reset the network adapter and then says it has been resolved again (it hasn't). im running windows vista. using wireless internet connection and it always says that my signal strength is excellent.

i have no idea what it could be as i had not been doing anything differently with it when the problem started, help please.

A:internet 'access' keeps changing from 'local and internet' to 'local only'

This happens when the router/dsl/cable modem loses its connection with the internet but your wireless connection between your computer and the wireless router stays up (local only).
The next time this happens run in and take a look at the WAN light on your dsl modem to verify that it is red or flashing orange (depending on your modem). Most likely the connection has dropped but the modem will restore the connection automatically when the line is good again. This is an ISP issue and you should call them when you are having trouble and ask them to diagnose the line. You will have to insist because it takes more than 2 microseconds of their time and you know how valuable they believe their time can be.

Hi, my machine is a Asus X550c supplied with W 8 and upgraded to 8.1. After a period of frustration with MS account login I successfully reverted to a local password. Foolishly I did not create a password reset disc though I do have a Windows recovery drive. How can I regain access to my laptop without doing a factory reset? I am new to this forum so I hope I have given all the info you need within rambling too much:-)

Thankx in anticipation.

A:No Prompt for password while trying to connect to internet

Hi CaptainPlanet,

Are you trying to connect to your own wireless network? If so, is your network secured with WEP, WPA or WPA2?
You may find out the Security key from your router's wireless setting page.

You might want to remove all your wireless network profiles then re-add your own Wi-Fi connection manually, here's how. Make sure that you enter the correct security key.

Please post an update.
