Problems with Ethernet Controller and SM Bus Controller

Q: Problems with Ethernet Controller and SM Bus Controller

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 4550. I have all the necessary CDs and put in the Dell Resource CD. It has a few drivers but none of them seem to fix the problem I'm having with "other devices" in "device manager." Under other devices, there are yellow question marks next to "Ethernet Controller" and "SM Bus Controller." I've gone to the Dell Web site to try to download drivers but I'm lost and not sure where to turn. The device status for both says: The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Device.

Preferred Solution: Problems with Ethernet Controller and SM Bus Controller

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello guys, I've been having a lot of issues with my AMD drivers, specially when it comes to chipset and video drivers. I recently had to downgrade my video drivers to June 2015 release date, that was the only solution found so I could run games properly (with recent drivers, games that should run with 100fps+ were running with 15fps)..

But that is not the point of this thread, instead, I'm here because after a few weeks running this drivers, I noticed my WiFi was not connecting to my router (wich is working, I can get access with other computers/cel phones). In my drivers list, the Ethernet controller and SM Bus controller are flagged as not installed.
I've tried to find these drivers, but AMD seems to only release packages of drivers. I've come to this download page:

where I should be getting the drivers that solve my problem, but the big issue is: apparently, by doing it, i will be reinstalling the latest video drivers (for the APU), and that is ABSOLUTELY NOT what i want.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? And I mean: where can I get the sm bus and ethernet controller driver w/o having to install a bunch of unnecessary drivers?

My notebook is a MSI 60X 3BE
video card: Radeon HD 8970M
chipset: AMD A10-5750M (with Radeon HD 8650G)
motherboard: MSI MS-16FK

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I've downloaded the drivers in the link, installed and SM Bus is running properly, but Ethernet doesn't. Any further help?

I have a question (obviously), I recently redid my computer and may i say that everything is running wonderfully. There is only ONE problem that I cannot seem to eliminate no matter how much time or effort I put into it.

3 drivers, SM Bus Controller, Ethernet Controller and Coprocessor refuse to work properly. Every time I install the drivers I need for them and restart my computer I get a message from windows saying that it could not start properly, it gives me two options (well technically 5) load last working settings or start windows normally. Start windows normally restarts my computer taking me back to the exact same screen, selecting load last working settings lets windows boot but the 3 drivers appear in new hardware found again. I have tried at least 10 different sets of drivers for both the onboard graphics card (i know i need to order the PCIe card im getting still) as well as just the motherboard itself. I have installed all the drivers from the CD given w/ the motherboard and all work except these three. I tried multiple ones from the internet to no avail.

My specs are:
ASUS M3N72-D motherboard, chipset nVidia 750a SLI
Windows XP Pro, 32-bit
AMD Phenom 9600 Quadcore processor

I think that is all thats important, but if you need more just ask me, ill be checking this thread every few minutes.

Please keep in mind that EVERYTHING works fine except that I get the three notifications from new hardware found windows utility. If anyone can he... Read more

A:SM Bus Controller, Ethernet Controller, and Coprocessor Problems

Sorry couldn't figure out how to edit to avoid double posting*

I have solved 2 of the 3 issues after spending about 10 hours of my day on them. I have fixed both the Coprocessor as well as the Ethernet Controller issue. Turns out they were just being rolled back with the load last working settings along with the SM Bus Controller which was the only one really having a problem. Still though, after uninstalling reinstalling disabling and so on and so forth, the SM Bus Controller continues to be a thorn in my side. I have disabled it to get rid of the annoying pop up every time the computer restarts (I figured this is ok b/c according to the device manager the device is inactive anyway so why not?).

Thanks again for any help.

Hi there, this is my first post on the forum as I found this site while browsing on my iPod. Now why would I have to use my iPod when I have a beautiful new computer sitting in front of me? Well as the title says. I have no controllers, ergo, no Internet.

So, I came here hoping you guys could rescue me... I'm looking for the driver(s) I need, and I'm also wondering how I can manage to download them to my com if it's not online. I have;

Hello! I made a big mistake today. Here goes...
I tried switching routers today, and in doing so, I unistalled a driver I needed. I decided to stick to my original router. The router I am using is a Linksys BEFSR41. I have a Dell Dimension 3000 and use Windows XP as my operating system.
I clicked on the Local Area Connection, when that screen popped up at the very top of the General tab to the right, i hit the configure button. When that came up, I hit the driver tab. When that came up, I hit the button at the botton that said uninstall and i uninstalled it.
When I restarted the computer it said new hardware found and made a new connection but it had no activity. In my device manager there was a yellow question mark next to Ethernet Controller. I double clicked on it and followed the instructions, inserting the Disk Driver. I inserted the Disk Driver for the Linksys Router. The wizard searched my disk and said it could not find the proper software needed. I tried this several times with no success. Am I missing something? Does anyone know why it isn't reading the drivers on my disk? Any help at all would be MUCH appreciated.
Thank you very much!

A:Ethernet Controller Problems

well first off what you uninstalled was the drivers for your network interface, most likely the one on your mother board. your router probably doesn't require drivers at all unless you are connecting to it with USB which I don't think your router does, and anything on your linksys disk is probably unnecessary spyware, malware, or garbage.
The first thing you should probably do is call dell, have them walk you through reinstalling your NIC, and then go to the chat based support for your router at linksys and have those folks help you with setup.

Yes, you need to install the motherboard chipset drivers for the motherboard that is currently installed.

Assuming you are using the ethernet port on the motherboard (not a separate card) you need to get the manufacturer and model number from the mb itself and go to their site to get the drivers for that and the SM bus controller. You don't mention the brand/model of the mb in your post - Micro ATX is a size specification, not mfr.

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with a Yellow flag? Especially under Network Controllers? Right click it and Uninstall. Now Right click any device and choose Scan For Hardware Changes. It should come back with New Hardware Found and load the previous driver.
If it is still a yellow flag, on an Internet Computer, go to the Asus Support/Download drivers page Support Center | ASUS UK and type in your full model # from the sticker on the bottom. Choose your OS version (eg) Vista 32 bit or 64 bit and download the Wireless LAN Network Adapter driver for your model and save it to a USB Flash Drive and install it on the troubled computer. Hi:Let's see this:
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

Also,in the lan adapter driver section, tell us the driver description and location.
It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

And this :
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Hi everybody :
My System : Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, 500 Gb Hard Drive, 3GB RAM.
GIGABYTE GA-z77-ds3h Mootherboard
Recently, my NVidia video died. I (safely) removed it. Then I had video on my monitor. But, I lost internet connection. I tried using the GIGABYTE Motherboard disk to re-install the Ethernet drivers. At first, I got the error message stating that it couldn't find the Ethernet Controller. So, I did a total re-install of Windows 7. But, I couldn't FORMAT the Hard Drive. So, apparently, this re-install just overwrote the previous install. Still the internet icon was red. I found (on the GIGABY.TE disk) the RealTek drivers. Apparentlly, I found the correct driver......but it referenced that a cable was unplugged. NOYE: When I tried to format the Hard Drive, I got the error message that I couldn't FORMAT the Hard Drive because it was in use. I went into MANAGEMENT but the FORMAT option was greyed out. In the Device Manager I had to select SHOW HIDDEN ITEMS (I forget the exact wording), and NETWORKING DID show . But, I couldn't install the Ethernet Drivers. In BIOS the LAN (switch) was ENABLED. Until I'm able to get my PC to the Geek Squad, I'm trying to figure this out. Advice ? garystan

Hello,,,,,THANKS for your time, help, and advise!!!!

Just rebuilt an old IBM Acer/Aspire computer. Rebuilt with the following steps:

o format of C:
o ConvertFat16 to FAt 32, and
o a delivery of Windows 98SE.

And, it runs better than expected.

None of the stuff that was on the machine was required to be saved and no backup was accomplished.

There is a Network Interface Card (NIC) intstalled on this machine and apparently was installed after delivery (not listed in the specifications). The driver diskettes/CD cannot be found. This NIC was working before the rebuild. An attempt to use the computers delivery diskettes and CD could not find a driver for this NIC.

The START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/ Device Manager reports the NIC in:

- ?Other Devices
!PCI Ethernet Controller (no driver installed---
also, no conflicts)

"Winipcfg" does not report the NIC so the MAC address to find the manufacturer is not available.

Opening the chassis might reval the manufacturer if it is printed on the NIC circuit board.

If there is a method or a standard driver that can be used to get the NIC to work or some method to show the MAC address then the manufacturer can be contacted to get the driver.

Thanks for your time, help, and advise!!!!

I am at my wits end!

I have an eMachines - E625 series laptop, and it used to have an INTERNAL Atheros wireless adaptor, and my LAN used to show up in my Network and Sharing. I would use this via ethernet to watch HDTV videos through my XBOX 360.

Then one fine day, my wireless stopped working. After multiple reformats, and purchasing an EXTERNAL dlink wireless network adapter, both my Atheros and LAN drivers have just completely dissappeared.

I have tried everything in the book!

I've gone to the eMachines website, and downloaded the drivers. The LAN driver says it installs fine, but WHOOPTY TAH, it's not there. I've checked in my device manager, under network adaptors. The only thing there is my external network adaptor. It's like they just died completely or something. Been whiped out of existence.

I can't connect to my xbox through ethernet (thank goodness I have a wireless adapter on my xbox too), and I would really like to start watching my hdtv videos again.

Before I take this messed up baby of a laptop to a professional, I thought I'd ask here.

If you need any information, just ask me. But please, HELP A GIRL OUT!

A:Ethernet Controller

Dowload and run Aida32 to get the details on the controller on the MB which should allow you to find the drivers you need.
