Keyboard and Touchscreen Do Not Work After Waking Up

Q: Keyboard and Touchscreen Do Not Work After Waking Up

I have a problem with my Dell XPS 15. Anytime it wakes up from sleep mode, the keyboard and touch screen features do not work, leaving me with nothing to do but reboot the system in order to get them working again. This is extremely annoying and a fix for the issue would be greatly appreciated. I am running Windows 10 if that helps address the issue easier. Thanks in advance for your help, this is driving me absolutely crazy.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok, To be quite honest I never really use the sleep feature on my computer, possibly the only time I ever did was to test it was working, But anyway the problem is that whenever I'd have My machine asleep whether it be pressing the button by accident or doing it intentionally, when I tell it to wake it up, It does everything normally (Brings back Desktop etc.) but the keyboard (And sometimes the mouse) are practically dead, No lights on and stuff, and doesn't come back unless I restart and on some occasions completely unplug the power cables for about half an hour.

I did some research around and I couldn't find anything helpful, Some suggested upgrading the Bios (Done) and some said turning off the respective settings in "Power options" and the "Device manager" (Did that too) and still no result, I'm using windows 7 SP1 and all the latest drivers and updates, My motherboard is an Intel DH67CLB3 with latest bios.

The real problem for me is that I don't know how long it has been going on for and whether or not I had anything to do with it, because like I said I rarely use the sleep button, But whenever I do It always does this on wakeup.

Can Anyone help?

A:Keyboard doesn't work after waking up my machine.

Method 1
Verify if the keyboard is enabled to wake the computer out of sleep mode.

a) Open the Keyboard control panel item, as described in Method 1.
b) Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
c) Click the Change Settings button

Note This step requires Administrator access
d) Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
e) Click OK, and then click OK again.

Method 2
If the above step fails then make sure that you have updated the drivers for the keyboard from the manufacturer website.
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

Hello,I recently bought a new HP Pavilion 15-bc035nd (Windows 10) but I am running into a few issues with it. When I go into sleep mode and then wake up the laptop, using the power button, the keyboard and touchpad stops working. I am not able to enter my password. Via an external mouse and keyboard I am able to enter my password succesfully. Even after entering my password I am still not able to use my touchpad/keyboard of my laptop. Only a hard reset enables me to use the keyboard/touchpad again. I have tried various settings regarding power management but nothing seems to resolve my issue... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,Kevin

SOme info about the laptop. Product Name: Sleekbook HP Pavilion 14-f004lOperating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit) I've had this problem a couple times already. The touchscreen stops working sporadically and the only way to make it work again is installing the  AUO Touchscreen Firmware/ sp63116.exe driver from this site. however this last time I've run into quite the weird problem. The driver installer CLOSES INMEDIATELY BEFORE I CAN DO ANYTHING A couple months ago I posted this:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/AUO-Touchscreen-Firmware-installer-doe... Since then due to time constrains and schoolwork, I did not attempt to restore the BIOS until today.Today I restored the BIOS, followed all procedures they gave me, and the installer for the Touchscreen firmware does the following: -Runs-Asks for permission-Install it-Finishes installing-Runs the program's window-Inmediately closes, I can't even click on anything because it flashes for a second and disappears. I've already restored the laptop to factory presets. The installer DOES THE SAME THINGRestored the BIOS. The installer DOES THE SAME THING So please, do not tell me to restore the laptop. I've done it already. Doesn't work. Same thing for the BIOS. Nothing. Can anyone help me? Thank you

So I've had this happen countless times. The touchscreen stops working. The laptop is in perfect conditions. The screen, not even a scratch. I format the laptop, it still doesn' work. So, I've always fixed it by installing the AUO Touchscreen Firmware/ sp63116.exe from:http://support.hp.com/mx-es/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-14-f000-sleekbook/5375393/model/5403360#... My problem atm is that this time, that process isn't working. The installer opens, installs the thing, then the program opens and immediately closes. This prompts windows to ask me if the driver installed correctly or that if it should attempt to install under a compatibility mode. No matter which I choose, it still does the same thing. It won't stay open for more than 1 second.  I've restored my laptop to factory presets a couple times already and the touchscreen isn't working yet because the driver/program/wizard thingy refuses to stay open after it is done installing. Can anybody help me? Perhaps share a different version of the installer? Thank you.

Hi, I have a brand new ideacentre 510 AIO with touchscreen, and had been noticing that the touch functionality would occassionally be disabled. A reboot would fix the problem. This week I realized that this occurs everytime the machine goes to sleep - when it resumes from sleep, the touchscreen no longer works. Has anyone encountered this before? Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks!

Alright guys, Windows update has been really messing with my pc lately. I ran update and when it installed the updates my integrated mouse ended up not working. I rolled back update and installed the updates one by one and the one I ended up not installing was the camera codec pack. Now the problem I am having is that my touchscreen won't work. If I talk to HP support they do the most basic thing they can and then when they can't fix it they tell me that I have to ship it to them because hardware is broken. (obviously not the case because uninstalling an update fixed my problem.) If you guys know what update is at fault or if you know how to diagnose the problem I would be grateful.

Thank you.

A:Mouse won't work now touchscreen won't work. Windows updat

There's no shortcut I know of. It's a matter of roll it back so the system works normally. Install the next update in the list. Test. Repeat.

Until you find the culprit.

It may be a good idea to write down the updates on a pad of paper as you install them. Over time it's easy to lose your place in the list. Especially with rebooting etc..

Had my Lenovo Yoga 710 for about 3 weeks now and I'm loving it, however I have one slightly problem that I can't seem to figure out, the keyboard is waking the laptop up when in sleep mode.  This isn't too bad when it's in laptop mode but when in tablet mode, where the keyboard is underneath/behind the display (where your hands will likely be when using it in tablet mode) and you place the laptop into sleep mode, if you accidently touch the keyboard underneath it causes it to wake up again when you don't want it to.  I've tried a couple of things to correct this like checking in Device Manager that no boxes for "Allow this device to wake the computer" are ticked under the device properties for the keyboard however there is no such option at all (which can be seen by the below screenshot). I've even booted into the BIOS to see if there were any options in there but again there is no options to disable the keyboard from waking the laptop up from within there. .  Any help or guidance would be highly appreciated

Windows 7 64bit.
I had a Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combo installed. Reception was terrible so I got a wired keyboard (PS/2) and wired mouse (USB). I used to be able to start my computer in the morning just by pressing the SPACE key. I'm not able to with the new keyboard, also moving the mouse doesn't do anything. I have to press a mouse button to wake it.
I didn't change any settings in Windows or in the BIOS.
There is also no "power options" tab in keyboard properties.

Am I missing something?
I just want to be able to sit down and press the space key.

Sorry, nothing to offer as a solution. I'm actually having a similar problem. I have 4 identical computers except for the after market coolers. 3 of these PCs will wake by simply moving the mouse, one will not. The only way to wake this rogue PC is to press the power button, so if you find a solution, would sure appreciate if you could post it, if the answer does not come from these forums. thanks

I've had my Yoga 900 for just a little while (got it the day that showed up in stores). I love it, save for one thing. One time, it got into this mode where touches would randomly appear on the screen (the little dot you get when you do a touch). At the same time, random keys seemed like they were being pressed. And you'd press the keys on the keyboard but they'd give you a totally different keystroke than they were supposed to. This persisted through two whole reboots. But it wouldn't happen 100% of the time. It'd be fine for a few minutes, then start doing it again. I managed to get a BIOS update in and a reboot, and the problem seemed to go away. But then in the last day or two, it has come back, albeit much much less horrifically. They'll be a stray touch on the screen with my hands nowhere near it (I'm almost always in laptop mode). Or something weird will happen like my browser will open a new tab that there's no good reason for. All of these might be phantom touches, but some could be phantom keys as well. Anyone else run into this? It seems like it's probably the hardware, though I can't rule out software.

A:Yoga 900 - Sometimes the keyboard and touchscreen ...

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having difficulty.
I've not seen this reported previously for the Yoga 900, but a driver update for the Yoga 3 14 (I believe) fixed a similar issue. So, if you would, please confirm which video driver version you have, and compare it to what's listed in the driver listing: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-900-13isk

Hello, that's a problem I actually had since Windows 8:
Whenever my laptop goes to sleep, the only way to wake it up is through the laptop's keyboard (pressing any key on the keyboard). But when I press the USB keyboard or the USB mouse, it doesn't wake up.
I use my laptop mostly as a "desktop": I connect it through an HDMI cable to a larger 24" monitor, and the laptop is lying closed in the corner. It is just annoying to open the laptop and press the keyboard.. not a big deal, but if it's possible to change that it will be good !
Thanks!

I would check this post here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/122027-devices-allow-prevent-wake-up-computer.html

I would try option 1:
- hit the windows logo key + R
- type devmgmt.msc
- Under keyboards, right click your keyboard and select properties
- On the power management tab, select "allow this device to wake the computer"

Main issue im having is the keyboard is acting very bizzare. First keypress does not register when I start typing or after pressing the spacebar. shift keys and backspace are intermittent. for example, on this sentence i had to press the "f" key twice as well as press every letter twice after each press of the spacebar. Reinstalled drivers, system restore, malware scans all to no avail. i'd guess it's a hardware issue.now the touchscreen:does not work 99% of the time but randomly appears to. When it's not working windows tells me no touch is available for this display. Seems like a poor connection to me as well as I can't seem to find touch screen drivers. anyone have experience with this?

Applications crash after waking in Windows 7 64-bit when keyboard is used

I have a Dell Studio 1569 laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit installed. It's got 4GB RAM and the Intel i5 Core processor.

Since I installed Windows 7 Professional a few months ago, about 50% of the time when I close the laptop and re-open it later, Windows boots fine. Then I put in my password, which works fine.

However, once I'm on my desktop, any program that I run, such as a browser, word processor, etc opens fine, but when I type anything using the keyboard the program crashes with (Not Responding). No matter what program I open, this happens.

The only solution is to restart the computer. Then things work fine until the next sleep.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey all, I hope you can help me on this considering the Microsoft chat is taking forever.

I just bought a HP Stream x360 yesterday and upgraded it to Windows 10, the issue is that the touchscreen will no longer work. It worked with 8.1 but not with 10. I have checked with Windows Update and installed all of the updates. I have also checked with the HP driver support to see if any needed to be installed and it said none (if I did it right). Any thoughts on how to fix it?

Thanks a ton guys.

A:Touchscreen won't work.

I made an account on here just to answer this for you cause I was having the same problems and I know how frustrating it can be to not get an answer when you need one. This worked for me and I have a Dell Touchscreen Laptop. Hopefully it works for you.

Open your Start menu, and type in Device Manager to search for it. Click on it in the results to open it. Click on the arrow next to Human Interface Devices to open up the drop down menu for it. Then find and right click HID-compliant touch screen. Click Disable. It will ask if you want to disable it because it may stop working - click Yes. Then right click again and click Enable, or Re-enable.

It should start working again once you do this. It did for me. If not, hopefully you can find something else that works. Good luck!

My mouse, keyboard and touchscreen are all not responsive.  To isolate the issue, i tried my unifying receiver on another PC and it is working.  I am thinking my drivers perhaps got messed up.

Yesterday, after restarting my PC to finish updates from Windows, and installations from Autodesk and MATLab, my keyboard, touch pad and wireless mouse stopped working. After checking the drivers, I found that the keyboard and mouse drivers had a code 32. So I did a system restore before all the updates. Did nothing for the drivers.I tried uninstalling, updating the drivers; didn't work. Then I used CCleaner to clean up registry errors. No changes.Next, I went into the registry and deleted the UpperFilter values for the keyboard and mouse drivers. Code 32 was gone for HID keyboard driver and the HID mouse driver. But now the ps/2 keyboard driver and the synaptics smbus driver now had a code 10.After removing and reconnecting my wireless mouse's usb, I noticed that fixed drivers come and go with it, so I tried to find the drivers for the mouse to try a manual reinstall for my mouse. Couldn't find them, (Logitech's website was of no help). So I got Driver Booster to help me. The program said my PC had a lot of outdated drivers, so I decided to let the program update them all in hopes it would fix both the code 10 and let my mouse work again. And that's how the touchscreen stopped responding. Driver Booster had paused while downloading the driver for the Bluetooth as Windows Defenders stopped it. When I tried to allow the download, I notice my only method of interacting with my PC had failed.I force shut down the PC in hopes that the problem would be fixed. Didn't work.So now, I can... UPDATE:Okay, I found that there was a way to force the PC into recovery mode without any buttons.I took out the battery, forced a shut down, and unplugged the power cord when I turned it on. After replugging the power and powering up, it went into recovery.Touchscreen and keyboard worked in recovery mode, was too excited to test TouchPad and mice.Anyways, I'm resetting the PC now. Hopefully this fixes it all.I'm somewhat leary of doing updates, however. Reading around online, some had this issue for their keyboards and mice due to Windows 10 hybrid shutdown and fast startup. I'm going to try to turn that off, update everything, and hope that fixes everything. Will update status later.Hope anyone having similar issues find this useful.

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help. I have a desktop PC hooked up to a HP S230tm touch monitor.Until a windows 10 anniversary update it worked flawless. multi-touch, gestures, and scrolling all work as expected. After the Anniversary update the computer still has the touch listed in device manager (HID-compliant touch screen) and when I swipe on the screen I can see the dot that appears for touch events. However, the computer doesn't register the tap as mouse click. So I can scroll web pages, pinch to zoom, and even click and drag windows around but when I tap the screen the touch dot appears and then nothing happens. Curiously i can click/tab links in the chrome browser. I'm unable to calibrate the screen as it doesn't register the touch (even though I see the dot appear on the screen). I tried to disable and re-enable the touch screen, uninstall and re-install the drivers (its a generic touch and uses built in drivers) and re-booted the PC. So far nothing worked.  Any help is appreciated. Thanks

My V5-571P touchscreen (not touch pad) used to work perfectly with Windows 7, but after upgrading to Windows 10 it only works at the Windows 10 login screen. Someone suggested that loading a Windows 8.1 driver for the touchscreen may work, but I've searched the Acer drivers website and there are no drivers for the touchscreen.  I also noticed since my Windows 10 upgrade that the SD card slot stopped working and the HDMI socket didn't work correctly either, but after a recent Microsoft Windows 10 scheduled update both of these now work ok!  Can it be that Microsoft will include a fix in the next Windows 10 scheduled update?  Any ideas ???

Hi!My name Antonio, i recently bought this HP Notebook 15.6" HD Touch Display at walmart,I brought it home, Set it up its works great but i do not have the touchscreen anymore, it is telling me NO PEN OR TOUCH AVAILABLE FOR THIS DISPLAY. I bought it as a touch screen. I'm not quite sure what happened if there was a update that took it out or if i made a mistake somewhere.I've tried everything between going into Devices Manger, theres no HID touch or nothing under mouse or pointers that would indicate a touch screen, I've  made sure all the drivers are up to date and unfortunately nothing.I also did not Delete any software off the laptop. thank you, please help ASAP

My touchscreen stopped working all of a sudden. I updated my computer but the touchscreen still won't work. I checked the driver in the device manager under the "Human Interface Devices" option and there is no "HID compliant touch screen" driver. I checked in the settings to see if the computer still recognized itself as having a touchscreen, but it doesn't. Under "pen and touch options" it says "no pen or touch input is available for this display".  This happened after my computer fell asleep for about an hour while I cooked. My computer has recieved updates intermitently over the past few days. I had updated it today twice after the touchscreen stopped working suddenly. There have been no error messages of any kind. This is not the first time this has happened, usually the touchscreen just starts working again suddenly. But this is the first time I've reached out about it. PS I'm not a tech savvy person at all.
