Macromedia Shockwave / Flash Player problems solved in Internet Explorer?

Q: Macromedia Shockwave / Flash Player problems solved in Internet Explorer?

One of today's Microsoft updates supposedly deals with the repeated problems users experience when they try to install the Macromedia Shockwave / Flash Players in Internet Explorer.

All this time I've seen numerous attestations from users (including me, in multiple pc's and os-ie configurations) regarding problems (or, more accurately, utter failure) when it came to installing those Macromedia Players.

So, I suggest all frustrated users to visit the Internet Explorer ActiveX update page and follow MS' advice to download and install what you have to.

Bear in mind, though, that if you have the Player(s) installed or unsuccessfully tried to install them, you'll need first to take some additional steps. You'll find useful information in other relevant TSF threads and in Adobe's website.

Preferred Solution: Macromedia Shockwave / Flash Player problems solved in Internet Explorer?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Macromedia Shockwave / Flash Player problems solved in Internet Explorer?

I just wanted to know why you said Macromedia Shockwave/Flash Player. Because aren't they Adobe now as mentioned in your post Adob's website. I sometimes get confused whay people still call them Macromedia if they are adobe now. What happend to Macromedia anyway whenever I try to go to their website it ends up takeing me to adobe. Did adobe take over them or was Macromedia a branch of adobe I don't really pay attention to these things so I just ask.

1. I assume that your installation of DirectX runs smoothly; hoever, it won't hurt if you run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool ().

2. What is your web browser, and what is its version? Find it in its Help menu -> About..., and please post back for further instructions.

I'm pulling my hair out! I have a few editions of 'Who wants to be a Millionaire' (the UK versions) and out of the blue WWTBAM 2nd edition went weird on me. It stopped working and remained this way. When I attempt playing it, it checks out my system which should be a formality but this is where I don't know what to do. An error message appears saying that the Macromedia Shockwave Player is not working properly. Odd, because the other editions of WWTBAM also use Macromedia, but they play fine.

When the dropdown box appears telling me that Macromedia is not workng, it offers me an "auto fix." If I use the autofix, it does its thing, and actually says :You have sccessfully installed Macro. Shockwave player. And with that it starts over:- checks the system and fnds te Macromedia SW P not wrking properly

I've not yet worked up the courage to try uninstalling & reinstalling M SW P, Reason being it's asking for M SW P 8.0 and I couldn't find one on the net. Is the problem the MSW P or is the CD faulty (can files become corrupt on a CD?)

Platform is Windows 7 Home Basic, 4 GB of RAM. Can anyone point me in the right direction. All and any suggestions will be welcome and appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I can not see anything that requires the macromedia flash player. I went to macromedia.com and did the troubleshooting step by step and nothing works. It used to work fine. I have tried everything. When I test my flash player, all I see is a broken image icon (circle, square, triangle)and space for the movie. I did not see "About Macromedia Flash Player" when I right click (which was a question asked in the troubleshooting). What can I do to fix it?

I have Windows XP Home Edition and recently my Macromedia Flash Player hasn't been working and I think it's safe to say that it's because I ran Hijack This! I've tried everything I can think of to fix the problem and I'm still running into problems so I'm gonna walk through what I've done and see if someone can help me.

The first thing I noticed is that nothing with flash was working properly....obviously. But not only on Internet Explorer, but anything flash on my computer as well. Shockwave Player works fine. I ran the tester on the Macromedia website and it basically says just that, Shockwave loads okay and Flash Player shows a little red x. Anytime I try and install the Flash Player I either get the red x or the little square icon with the colors in it. After going forum after forum trying to figure it out, I finally just downloaded Netscape Browser and it works fine. I don't have any Spyware programs that disabled Flash and honestly the only thing I've done different recently is running Hijack This! I tried a system restore and it wont let me do it so please, someone, help me!

I am a Real Estate Agent in San Diego.
When I access the Multiple listings part of the sign on is a box you click on.
This box is supposed to be pretty stationary, and was until several months ago.
I think I accidentally downloaded something that now will cause it to flash on and off quite rapidly.
On other sites, certain messages also flash very quickly, but don't usually stop.
When I right click on any of these the macromedia flash player 6 shows up.
I did delete it once and I could no longer get into the Multiple listing site.

I seem to remember some box popping up that I downloaded, not actually reading what it was.

I have not been able to figure out if I had another version before that was compatable, but whenever a site that uses flash player 6 shows up, it appears like a flourescent light that can/t seem to
stop blinking.

Other computers I have used at work don't do this, so I know it is something in my computer.

I wonder if I could download an older version?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi folks,

Anybody know where I can download an executable file of Flash & Shockwave?

I need these to fix a friends PC but they simply install straight onto the system. My friends PC is so goosed I can't get onto the Macromedia site to download these when I'm round there so need to burn them onto a disc and carry them round for install.

Any ideas?

Anyway! Lately I've been getting into games a lot more than I ever have before. But I've been noticing something --- I can't seem to download Macromedia Shockwave Player, which is needed for some of the games.

I don't know what the problem is. Whenever I click on a game that requires Shockwave, a window pops up that says "Macromedia Shockwave Player is now downloading".

But it doesn't. The window just stays there and stays there and stays there --- until finally I get an error message that says "Network error". But this has been going on for weeks.

I can't figure out how to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Here is the download link to Adobe Shockwave Player

It'll install over and replace the older version, so there's no need to uninstall it first.

Uninstall the old version before you install the new version.

By the way, Adobe bought out Macromedia a long time ago.

If any programs in your computer begin with "Macromedia - - -" or "Shockwave - - -", they're very outdated and need to be uninstalled and replaced with "Adobe - - -".

Macromedia Shockwave Flash can be downloaded from their site at www.macromedia.com

If you are using Windows XP w/ SP2 then IE maybe blocking it. You will see a like yellow bar on the top of the page that an ActiveX control was blocked. Click here for options. From there you can install the Macromedia Shockwave Flash.

Here's the situation. I'm trying to fill out a survey on ratethemusic.com. It requires the instalation of the Macromedia flash player to work. So I followed the instructions to install it. According to the flash site, once I click the install now button, a security warning dialogue box should come up in IE asking me to install the program. This box never came up, nor did the page even attempt to download the active x control required. I made sure that all of the active x controls in IE6 were turned on in security settings. I also set it to accept all cookies. I even tried installing Flash5 to see if it would at least detect that I have the player installed. Nothing has worked, the ratethemusic site still says Flash is not installed, and Macromedia is not getting the active x controls required for me to install flash when I click on the install button. Downloading their installer on the page also failed to work. That is to say..The program installed, but Flash was not detected.
What can I do to get this to work?

Hello, Recently, iv'e tried playing a game I used to play last summer that requires flash/shockwave players. I already have the uptodate ones but I seem to be experiencing serious issues. When ever I load this game, CPU usage goes up to around 70%-100% on what ever explorer is loading the game (firefox, or internet explorer). And the game just kind of runs slow, I have no spyware/viruses or anything. I use the following tools to ensure of that.

Trend micro anti virus

And various other tools, such as spywareguard and spywareblaster. Anyways another issue which im pretty sure is caused by the flash, when I view internet pages, random pictures blink/flicker. Infact Iv'e just noticed to the right of this box im typing in the smileys are flashing/blinking. And websites like www.download.com, their banner uptop blinks. I don't think it's normal its ridiculous to make a banner like that. Also sometimes a whole page blinks/flickers in certain spots. This is really starting to annoy me, I can't play that game if it's going to suck up 1 gig of my ram...

Any feedback/help would be appreciated, thanks for reading.

I've had this problem for about 3 days now. Everything that uses adobe shockwave and flash player isn't working properly. For example, youtube videos load completely, but then they begin to buffer about 30-40 seconds in and never move again. The same goes for any site that uses shockwave for videos/games, etc.

I have the latest shockwave and flash installed on my computer. It happens on all 3 browsers I have (IE, Foxfire, Google Chrome). I cleared all caches. I've run maintenance on my computer, including defrag. Obviously I've restarted it again and again.

Now, I have to add that I've had trojans popping up left and right around the same time this has happened. I use BitDefender Antivirus and apparently they've all either been cleaned or quarantined. I don't know a lot about computers, but I have a feeling that doesn't mean they're gone and it's possible that's where my troubles are coming from. The initial trojans were all in the java deployment cache. I initially thought the problem was with java. Perhaps it's all of them. I don't know.

Also, when the adobe programs first started to slow down I uninstalled them and reinstalled them. I had a lot of trouble reinstalling them. Obviously Google Chrome already has them installed. But it took me quite a few tries for IE and Firefox. Particularly Firefox. I kept getting a message that there was a problem with "side by side configuration". Then a few ho... Read more

I recently downloaded the Adobe Macromedia flash player v. 9.0.16 in order to play content from newspaper sites and blogs. In addition, unfortunately, it also activates the streaming content from sites where I don't want it because it distracts me unnecessarily.

After a search of the web and trying out (unsuccessfully) a couple of programs that promised to turn the flash player on/off, it seems that the best solution would be to write a batch file to turn off the program. At one web site, I found a batch command to run a program, but none to stop a program.

Does anyone know of such a batch file? Is this approach the best way to deal with the incessant flash content? Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is a problem in which Flash Player stops once during the operation of the business portal currently operating based on Flash Player, so please contact us.

As a result of the verification, it is confirmed that it is not related to Adobe's Flash Player and is related to the function of Shockwave Flash Object installed in Windows 10 Internet Explorer 11.

Therefore, I would like to know whether it is possible to delete and reinstall the Shockwave Flash Object function.
And I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade or downgrade only the version of the Shockwave Flash Object (or any other related function) while leaving the version of Internet Explorer.

We have IE 6. Say a user goes to MSN.com. The ad on the right is a Flash object. Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it. It's quite annoying. Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player 9, but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player 8 as well. Other systems don't have the problem. I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed.

Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first, but users later complain again. Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player 9 again, because sites ask for it. I don't believe I've seen this on any XP systems at all, including my own, but most of our users have Win2K.

Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it?

A:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V.

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at www.stormwerks.com/linked/stuf/AYB2.swf) work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

Windows XP Pro/IE8/Firefox/Google Chrome browsers

I have previously had Adobe Flash Player installed in past years and had not used it very often and uninstalled it. Now I find I have certain websites that require it for viewing content so I have recently installed Adobe Flash Player 16 along with Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1 which I believe is needed as a plug-in? (Both of these are the latest versions!)

I am using 3 browsers primarily because IE8 no longer displayes content on certain websites correctly, so I go to Firefox or Google Chrome on many occasions.(In actuality, both of these browsers load pages much slower than IE8 even though they still are supporting XP?)

My issue is that even with these new Adobe installations, all three browsers will not recognize the existance of Flash and Shockwave on my desktop and each browser asks me to dowload them to their individual browsers. It doesn't seem realistic that I should do this and override the existing installations so I have not tried this on any of the 3 browsers.

Why are the Adobe instillations on my XP not recognized and how can this issue be addressed and resolved?

Thank you for any assistenance!

So I follow the links & download & install, but before it completes the install i am told: Please close Internet Explorer to continue.

I do this, the install completes, and then Safari opens displaying the page that Adobe Flash Player 10 has been installed successfully. Not thinking much of it I went back into Internet Explorer to the site I was initially trying to view, and I was greeted with the same prompt: Adobe Flash Player 10 or higher required!

Realizing that Safari was set as my default browser & may be conflicting, I set Explorer back as my default browser & repeated the process. This time when the install completed, it was Explorer that opened & told me Adobe Flash Player 10 had been successfully installed.

Thinking I was clever & it was all cleared up I returned to the site & was given the same message that I had before, apparently Flash Player 10 is not installed. Any ideas what my problem is? Any help would be much appreciated.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) Service Pack 1

Safari 5.1
Internet Explorer 9.0

In my installed programs it says I have:

Adobe AIR
Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX 10.3
Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin 10.3

p.s, on a side note, it says Adobe Reader 9.4.6 MUI is 655mb? Why is it so large & is it really needed ... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explorer / Safari / Adobe Flash Player 10 conflict?

Hello frazzz619,

As a general thought, i'd suspect the plugin not being loaded properly into the web browser, or the web browser dissallowing certain files that needs to be downloaded from the sites. If you go to the adobe flash website, does that confirm you using Flash Player?

Please set up your browser as the images below (for testing purposes), also see if Flash Player is listed in addons/Plugins view (dont have IE9 right now so not exactly sure where they are but should be Options > Manage addons/plugins).

Reason for concern. I do training on a Ford Motor site and the site indicates that I must have Macromedia flash player and I have Adobe flash player not Macromedia flash player. My understanding is that they are both the same. Is that correct.

The site must be way out of date, Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005.

What is the site's address?

Hello lilaco

You need to stop install on demand.
The macromedia install is built into the webpage by a download code (activex) for the flash component.

You really cant stop it, unless you stop all install on demand in tools-->internet options.

Curious though, why dont you want to install flashplayer 7?

It is a simple small program that will enrich your web experience for any website that uses flash.

Can you tell me why I keep getting a pop up asking me if I want to install and run macromedia flash player? This just started today when I'm in Random Discussion.

A:Macromedia Flash Player

Curious... whilst trying to access a web page for our oldest boys textbook, it informed me that I must install macromedia flash. Installed it, all was clean and good. However... problems started immediately... no matter what page I went to [using IE 6.0 on Win98SE], received the dreaded error of IE closing and sending a message to MS. After FINALLY! being able to access macromedia via their euro website, was able to uninstall. Now, this forum, yahoo email, etc. all work great. However, like combsdon, am receiving this message from macromedia asking to be installed... which have never received before. Ok, I do beleive that there is one remedy of this: go to IE tools, internet options, advanced, and then uncheck the box for enable install on-demand... is this right?

Now, however, I am afraid of installing this mess, if its going to bugger up my internet browsing capabilities...
