Lenovo G550 on Windows 10 Pro can't install / update display driver. Resolution adjustment disabled

Q: Lenovo G550 on Windows 10 Pro can't install / update display driver. Resolution adjustment disabled

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down. I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, first of all, here the necessary informations for my Laptop: G550 Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 2958 - Model 29588MGT4500(2.3GHz), 2GB RAM, 320GB 5400rpm HD, 15.6in 1366x768 LCD, Intel 4500M, CDRW/DVDRW, Broadcom 802.11bg wireless, 10/100 Ethernet, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Home Premium 32(taken from the lenovo page via serial-number) I'm trying to fix the laptop of a friend. He deinstalled a lot of drivers for some reason, and after that the laptop wasn't running anymore.I thought, sure no problem we just format the hard drive and reinstall windows. Unfortunatelly after formating i couldn't find the chipset drivers on the lenovo web page. I contacted the german lenovo support but they told me they do not provide the driver for windows 7, only xp and vista. I asked if it would work when using vista but he didn't know.  And now i wanted to ask if anybody could please help me with this. I thought the driver must exist because the laptop was bought with windows 7.  Or did they just use vista and it works more or less? Help would be very much appreciated, thanks!

I have Lenovo G50-70 with a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 as default and recommended by Windows. Now with this reslution, everything is so small. text, buttons, pictures, etc and it's very hard to work on it.I tried to change the resolution many times but then the display looses its sharpness and clarity, all graphics get dull and loos their sharpness too. Besides this, windows keeps popping up a message to change the display to 1920 x 1080.It was the same when I bought this laptop with Windows 8 and it is the same with Windows 10. No update could fix this problem. The only solution I could do is to "Set a custom scaling level" which does make text normal for comfort viewing but the graphics are not clear. Besides many programs still remain small.I would really appreciate the help to fixing my problem. The display adaptors?

Not sure whether I should have posted this in Hardware or Windows 8 or hardware.

Against my better judgement, I bought a Lenovo B540 all in one computer that ran Windows 8. It was beautiful, it ran well and fast... until 3 months later when my 2 year old took a metal hole punch to the side of the screen. For the first week, it wasn't a big deal. I could still use the mouse fine, I could even touch it if I wanted (But I figured that it was a bad idea). The crack was on the far left high corner of the screen, so it only ventured a hairline into the actual display and was not a distraction at all.

Nearing week 2, the digitizer started going out. It started pulling my mouse near the cracked corner of the screen when I tried to use it. I tried calling Lenovo tech support, and they were useless. They just read to me things that I had already learned from looking online. They are trained monkeys that know how to read and operate a mouse.

Apparently, Windows 8 has tied their display driver in with the one that operates the touch screen, so there is NO WAY to disable the display driver. I tried all that I could while the screen still worked. Nothing that I tried, or found worked in time.. Because when the touch screen went down for good (as I thought it might) it took the display with it.

I can turn it on, hear it work, but the main problem is that the two are tied together and my mouse is geared up towards the upper left corner and I cannot see it.

If I could just insta... Read more

A:Windows 8 Display + Digitizer driver problem (Lenovo All in One: B540)

And... I know that I can send it in to the trained monkeys to diagnose and repair it for a one time $85 fee. But they will not give me a quote on how much it will cost to replace the digitizer before I send it. The customer service rep said

" I know that it costs around $350 to replace a laptop screen, but I am not sure about a touch screen" * SMH... I could replace a laptop screen for $50-$100!!!. How much are they GOING to charge. I am not going to gamble $85 on the chance that they will charge me more than it cost to buy my computer in the first place.

I asked if I could buy the all-in-one case including the touch screen, digitizer, lcd.

"Well, no... repairing these is such a delicate process that we simply do not allow these parts to be sold"

FML!!! This is exactly why I have never bought an Apple. Lenovo is no better than Apple. They assume that you, the customer, are entirely dumb and cannot put the insides of your existing computer into a new screen/case.

Gah.. Should have bought a desktop. But there's my rant. Never buy an all-in-one if you have a child who might destroy the screen in the house. ESPECIALLY not Lenovo, because not only will they not quote you a price on repair, they won't even sell you the parts to repair it yourself.

I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

Also, I am getting BSOD/stop errors in normal mode that say anything from:

-memory_management 0x0000000001a,

- "A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. The faulty driver currently being on the kernel stack must be replaced with a working version." GDRO.sys-
address fffff88000626a8f9, base at fffff88006269000, datestamp 49b9d125

I'm not sure if they are related.

When I run in safemode I do not get the BSOD. When in normal mode I will get BSOD consistently when running Norton Full System Scan, specifically when the full system scan gets to the Windows/system32 folder.

System specs:
Processor: Intel 2500K Core Duo Unleashed
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-p67A-UD3P
RAM: I have 4x4 Corsair Vengeance, only using 1 stick of 4GB corsair vengeance currently due to troubleshooting.
HDDs:Intel 180GB SSD and Western Digital Caviar Black 1.0 TB (empty)
PSU: corsair 750 watt
Soundcard: MOBO

When I canoo

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

I read a tutorial on navigating through start-up and login when theres no screen. I'm sure it was in this help forum. I'll get back to you when I remember where I read it. In the mean time, search the tutorials here. You you may find your answer.

Oh, and have you tried to boot in safe mode? It boots with much lower resolution, so you may be able to reinstall the display driver that way...if that is in fact the issue. Just a thought.

I want to do a clean install and replace the pre-installed Vista with Windows 7. I see that the Lenovo G550 download page has drivers for Windows 7, but where is the pre-installed software, like Veriface, camera software, and all other pre-installed Lenovo software? I looked at all OS options for the G550 on the download page, and NONE of them had the G550 laptop software, all they had for each OS option was only  the drivers. I understand that I can make a recovery DVD, but as I understand  it, it will return the system to the factory fresh state (all pre-installed programs installed, but also with the factory installed VISTA  - yuck!). I didn't see any option to only re-install the  Lenovo software without also re-installing the OS. When I look at the download pages for other Lenovo  laptops, I see that they have drivers AND SOFTWARE, but the G550 has no software except for the drivers. Since the G550 came with no software disks, and there doesn't seem to be any of the software online, how exactly does one do a clean installation of an operating system, and then re-install the Lenovo software, on a G550? I was able to find downloads of programs like Veriface on the Lenovo site for different laptop models, but unfortunately those were much older software versions, and for a different Operating system. Why can't Lenovo post all of the software online? If they aren't going to provide the software on DVD... Read more

A:Where is the software for the Lenovo G550???

A week later and still no software? Come on Lenovo, I looked through the forums and saw that I wasn't the only one looking for the downloads. The only thing I can find is older Veriface software for G530s, and that is 32 bit ( I need 64 bit) G550 owners need the software downloads for Veriface, EasyCapture and whatever else you installed on the machine. Why did Lenovo not provide reinstallation DVDs with the computer? Since this wasn't done, then you should at least provide us with download links for this software. There are a lot of folks waiting to upgrade to Windows 7, and they would like to be able to use their built-in webcams after a clean install of Windows 7. DELL provides both reinstallation Disks AND  download links; why is Lenovo incapable of doing the same?

I just bought a new laptop, and a glitch has developed where by lowering my resolution, the size of the screen decreases, leaving black space around the outside. This is particularly annoying in games that do not play at my computer's native resolution, and therefore run in a rectangle half the size of my screen. If anyone can help with this, I'd be very grateful. thanx

Recently I've got a new laptop it's a hp pavillion g6 it has a smashed screen but we use hdmi. A couple of days ago I was mucking around In the display drivers and accidentley disabled my display driver now all I see is a black screen and hdmi doesn't work and neither does a vga cable. Any tips on what I can do its a hp pavillion g6 thanks

A:Accidentally disabled my display driver

This is critical issue.

First, since the laptop is new, your laptop would be covered in warranty. Just visit the nearest authorized hp service center and get it fixed or get a replacement. You can get the list of authorized hp service center from hp.com for your location. If you have accidental coverage of warranty, then not to worry about the smashed screen at all.

If you are out of warranty, visit a technician/service center. Charges apply.

To fix the HDMI / VGA - display driver issue, you need to try these workarounds.

You just had to do a hard boot and it'll boot in Safe mode. Then go to Device Manager and enabled the driver again.
Try doing a power cycle.
Remove ac adapter and then remove battery.

Now, press and hold power button for 90 seconds to release the charge in the capacitors
Replace power sources[Put the battery and Connect Ac Adapter].

Then Reboot.

If both the options didn't work, visit a technician/service center. Charges may apply.

Upon recieving my X1 Yoga OLED, I had an issue where every time I woke the computer from sleep or switched to tablet mode, the display would flicker black a few times and the computer would sometimes restart. I'd get a critical event, kernel event 117. A little research led me to update the display driver. It was already up to date, but reinstalling the Intel display driver fixed the issue. Soon after, I noticed that changing thecolor settings made no change to the display. I knew it worked prior to reinstalling the display driver. As advised in another thread here, I reinstalled the system interface foundation driver (again, was originally up to date), and this fixed the color settings issue. However, the original issue came back! I'd obviously rather have the display working properly, so I again reinstalled the display drivers. Sure enough, the color setting issue is back. Seems like these two drivers aren't playing well together. Any ideas on how to get around this? Thanks.

I just uploaded Windows 7 professional yesterday (clean install, using windows xp previously). Everything went smoothly as far as I could tell and Windows 7 is now running on my laptop.

However every 10 minutes or so the screen freezes, goes black for a second and than returns to normal and a message appears in the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying 'Display driver Intel graphics accelerator for windows vista(R) has stopped responding and successfully recovered'

One time after this happened I got the a blue screen with a warning message (it was too fast to copy anything down) and than my laptop restarted itself. I have added a zip file to this message taken from \windows\minidump as I saw someone suggested to do this on another thread... I hope it helps with the diagnosis.

I'm not sure if the BSOD came as a result of the display driver fault as mentioned above. I'm not very savvy when it comes to computers.

One more piece of info - after installing windows 7, I installed all the recommended and critical updates for windows, but none of the optional ones. I can provide a screen dump of these if needed.

Hope I've given enough information and would really appreciate any help.

Have not been able to find instructions/videos showing the needed tricks. Anyone in here that can help, or has experience with the same issue?

Sorry to hear this as I own a G550. Frankly surprised it has lasted this long. However, when it does, I'll not hesitate to tear that sucker apart to attempt a fix.

Good luck on getting it working. If you do find a maintenance manual, please do share.

When I recieved the laptop there was not any operating system on it and the seller told me that this model does not have one. But now, after years!, by accident I came across this link that shows all the G550 series have windows OS preinstalled on them. My CPU is Intel pentium T4400 with 2 DDR3 gigabte of RAM. My hard disk is 250 GB. I could not find exactly a g550 laptop with these specifications in that link, but there are two models with the same CPU. Does my laptop have a windows os? If yes, can I take it back by lenovo company?

Hi yashar2014, welcome to the forums,
the odf you linked to only contains models manufactured for the US market, I don't believe there was a document of this type for systems sold on the European market at the time.    You can tell they are US systems by the "U" on the end of the type / model numbers e.g. 2958-2CU.
Do you have a similar 7 digit type and model number on your system or any other identifying numbers except the serial number?  Do you have the Lenovo order number for the system?   I'm pretty sure there were versions of the G550 on sale in Europe with DOS preinstalled, no Windows OS.

HELP....I have a Lenovo G550 that is running Windows7 and has been for several months! Anyway, it will connect to the internet via wireless, but it only stays connected for a few minutes. I have other computers in the house and they remain connected, so that leads me to believe it's not the router.

Thus far I've done a few odds and ends suggested on other sites to eliminate my problem, like taking the battery out for 30 minutes, changing the power setting....I ran spybot to see if there was some bug lurking around and none of that helped.

A:HELP...Lenovo G550 won't stay connected

How does it work with an ethernet connection?

Do you have the latest wireless driver from the external adapter manufacturer's web site or Lenova's site if an integrated adapter?

The internet access WIFI WAN(Miniport) drivers crashed. I need to replace them. Somewhere on the Lenovo website I thought I saw advice that stated there is disk that can be purchased to replace the old drivers. Is this true? What is the name of the product? The service center in my area stated that there is no product, and that I needed to pay them for installation plus the product. Sounds a little off.... If there is a product I can purchase to restore the seven (7) drivers, as I cannot access the internet from my computer at it's location and must go to a public computer. See attachment for what I am trying to replace.

If the recovery DVDs that you burned are bad, use the recovery partition to re-install Vista. If the recovery partition is bad, you will need to purchase replacement recovery DVDs from the system manufacturer.

I am using Vista for business (32-bit) on a new Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. I want to use a new external monitor (Dell S2209W) with it.

The external monitor is connected and works, but I cannot get it to display at its proper top resolution of 1920 x 1080.

When I check the displays in the laptop's device manager, both the laptop and the external monitor are given as Generic pnp. Attempts to update the drivers meet with the response that they are up-to-date.When I try to change the display from the desktop, the resolution options do not go high enough for the external monitor.

The laptop display works fine; what I need is for the external monitor to work at the high resolution.
Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks

Good day!
After installing the latest update for Windows 10 (Version 1607, OS Build 14393.222), the screen just went black! I noticed that I'm already logining in windows from the light of the fingerprint but I couldn't see anything on screen.
I tired to format everyting in the PC and reinstall Windows back again through entering the Recovery Screen. I was able to get the screen back but this time the brightness was full and I couldn't change the level of it. I did some search about this issue and then I manually update the display adapter (Intel HD Graphics 520) from the device manager. After this update the screen went off again!
I then tried to reinstall windows again and I connect my laptop to HDMI port. I was able to view everyhing in the extended screen but when I project to the PC screen I don't get anything.
I disabled the Intel HD Graphics 520 driver and by doing so I was able to see the screen back in PC. So it seems it's a driver issue. I tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again with the lateset version (Version but when I enable it the screen goes black again.
Now the display adapter is disabled and I can't change anything in the screen settings or control the brightness. What is the solution?
Also the screen goes black while browsing some sites with malicious content.Yesterday was going through a site
 I encountered black screen.
What is the solution?

I have just built a Windows 7 machine and am having lots of problems

I can't run windows update which outputs error messages - have followed all the fixes for this to no success

I get BSOD constantly whenever I try to do anything

The system is all new apart from the GPX card (full spec below)

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core
Asus M5A99x motherboard
8 GB (2x4) Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey DDR3
Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1GB PCIe (moved over from old PC)
1 x OCZ Vertex II Bigfoot 120GB SSD (OS and program drive)
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD (file storage only)
Rane TTM57SL USB soundcard
730W BeQuiet PSU

The system is a fresh build yesterday with NOTHING installed on any of the drives apart from:

Motherboard drivers
Windows OS - 7 x64 Ultimate SP1
Windows updates (up to a point - 8 of them can't install)
Serato Scratch Live software and drivers for the TTM57SL
AVG Antivirus Free

I have attached a zip of dump file and report

Any help would be massively appreciated

Two problems

One, your AVG.
I notice your AVG which is often at least a contributing cause of BSOD'S . Please remove and replace your AVG with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST
