Windows7 only accept 2 GB RAM

Q: Windows7 only accept 2 GB RAM

Hello,

By some reason Win7 only wil run with 1 x 2 GB RAM.

First i couldn't install Win7 - i got BSOD wit somthing about VSMRAID.SYS and IRQL NOT EQUAL.
Then I try to remove som hardware, and when I removed one of my to 2 GB RAM, then Win7 was installing perfect.

Afterwods I tryed to inset the second 2 GB RAM again - but then BSoD came again.

What is wrong? Why do Win7 give BSoD?

Win XP was OK with 2 x 2 GB - Why is Win7 not?

RAM: 2 x 2 GB GEIL, PC2-6400, DDR2-800
Mainboard: MSI P45 Zilent/Platinum with the newest BIOS.

Please help me :-)

Preferred Solution: Windows7 only accept 2 GB RAM

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows7 only accept 2 GB RAM

Hi,

Welcome to 7 forums

In this regard, i guess the problem is with the 2 GB RAM or the RAM slot. The issue is not with Windows 7.

► Lets say RAM 1 works, RAM 2 caused the issue.

* To find if the defect is with that RAM or the slot, remove the working RAM 1 and place the RAM 2 in that same slot.

* If your Windows works fine, then the problem may be with the other RAM slot. If the RAM 2 causes BSOD now, then the issue is with the RAM. You may have to replace that RAM 2.

* Additionally, you can try interchanging the RAM slots and boot up !.

Hope this helps

I have an HP Compaq dx2000mt desktop that has windows7 32bit enterprise installed on it. I tried to install windows7 home 32bit to replace the enterprise OS. As I was installing it stated the old OS would be marked, XXX.old and it went forward, then came to a point where there were booting errors. and it stopped installing. Now I am left with a half install, and a full OS the boot section now in its own drive named disk 0 system reserved.
I partioned the C drive and allocated 20gb and tried to install there. I received the same errors seems that my boot.ini is stuck in the system reserved and I cant figure out how to incorporate disk 0 over to disk C, so that my boot is in the same disk drive.
I have really messed this one up. I have installed an operating system before and never had so much trouble.
Any advice would be helpful.
And please if you have an answer, something for me to do, it needs to be A.B.C.'d out step by step as Im not an expert. But I guess I already proved that...
Thank you in advance.

My new computer arrived today with Windows7 64 installed. (happydance)
My old computer has Windows7 32 installed.

Before I start attacking both computers, thought I better ask beforehand or the b/f will 'kill' me

Can I remove the hard drive from the old computer, install it as a 2nd drive in the new computer and be able to access all the data (documents, photos, messages saved in outlook and my favourites etc) on it from the new Windows7 64bit primary drive?

(I wasn't sure which sub-forum to ask this question in, hope in here is OK.)

thanks,
Jane

A:Windows7 64 reading windows7 32 drive?

Hi Jaibird,

A hard disk is not 32-bit or 64-bit and does not depend upon the installed OS.

Yes, in some parts and no in others.
You can access files/folders from the partition Hard Disk (Documents, Photos, Favourites).. But you cannot get the messages saved in outlook.

Be advised that the (Documents, Photos, Favourites) will NOT merge into your current Windows 7 64-Bit.

I purchased windows7 for when it comes out in Oct. My question is this
I have vista 32-bit and can do an inplace upgrade to windows7 32-bit.
Can I also do a dual boot and run windows7 64-bit on a second hdd? On the same machine!
Will I have to purchase a second key or would the same key work for both
32-bit and 64-bit?
If I install the 32-bit win7 can I upgrade to 64-bit using the same key or
do I have to purchase a second key to do This?

A:windows7-32bit & windows7 64-bit

To the best of current thinking says the same key will work both 32 & 64 bit. you can dual boot both and should be able to use the same key.
Good luck and welcome to 7 Forum.

I recently changed ISPs and added a Netgear wireless router to the modem. I configured the modem and router useing my PC laptop, and generated a WEP Key with 64-bit encryption. I was able to successfully connect with my WEP Key on my PC and on my TiVo, but my Mac (which is a new MacBook) will not accept my WEP Key, saying there is an error in joining the network.

The dropdown menu in the AirPort window has four choices: (1) WEP Password, (2) WEP 40/128-bit hex, (3) WEP 40/128-bit ASCII and (4) LEAP. I'm assuming that since my WEP key is set to 64-bit encryption, that I should use the first option, which is what I have been trying.

I was able to connect my MacBook to my old wirelss signal, which I have not disconnected it (it's cable-based and runs from a different modem/router; my new ISP is DSL-based), and that signal also has a WEP Key with 64-bit encryption.

I also tried disabling the WEP key encryption for a time, and then I was able to secure a connection to the new signal, but I want to maintain the encryption. Please help.

I do have a vaugue knowlege of Html, but am stumped on this issue.

I looked on the CD, in the i386 folder/unattend.txt, bottom line is the product ID. When I put in this key, it tells me it's not a valid key. Now I'm stuck. How can this not be a valid ID when it's on the same disk used to install Windows, and what can I do now?

Hello,

This is about not being able to accept cookies, I E version 6.

I have changed and re-changed setting in internet options. I put the bar at accept all cookies. I have shut down my firewall and this did not help. I am using Zonealarm.
I have seen this addressed on several news groups and no one seems to have an answer. I have searched the knowledge base and tried several suggestions, no help.

Starting out, I E 6 was working okay, and then it quit accepting cookies. I asked for some knowledge from this forum. It was suggested that I use I E version 5.5.

I have Win98, Pentium II, 233 mhz, 196 megs ram, 32 g hd, plenty of room.

I used a program call IEradicator to remove I E 6. (http:\\www.98lite.net)
This did seem to remove I E from my computer. I ran it twice. I scandisk and defraged, ran regclean, scandisk and defrag again. I installed I E version 5.5. I still can not get this computer to accept cookies. I discovered that the internet options drop down was the same as version 6. This options menu still has a privacy tab included. I donít think that this is part of version 5.5.

I still canít accept cookies.

Does anyone know what to work over, to help me correct this main problem?

I know that I can empty all data and reformat. Might be what has to be. Did not want to do this.

A:Cookies, can not accept

Here are two possible ways that may help .

Double check your settings ( close & reopen ) to make sure everthing has been done correctly & the changes have stuck .

Dear Fred: Let me tell you of a simple way I have come up with
for managing cookies. It may not work for everyone, but it
works for me.
In the Internet Options (Security tab), I set both the
Internet zone and the Trusted Sites zone to Medium security.
Then, in the Internet zone, I disallow cookies that are stored
on the computer, while allowing session cookies. In the
Trusted Sites zone, I allow both. Whenever I run into a site
which needs to store a cookie (like eBay, Amazon, cable TV
listings, etc.) I add that site to the Trusted Sites zone. At
the end of the day, I have on the drive those cookies which I
need to keep, and all others are history.
To make this even easier, I use a small application called
Trust Setter, which puts two buttons in the IE toolbar, Add to
Trusted Sites, and Add to Restricted Sites. Get it from
http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/ScriptRepository/ .
Available by right clicking on the unwanted page .

Hi everybody,

it's my first post here and I have a serious problem.

My old laptops motherboard burned, so I stripped the RAM and HDD an threw the rest away. I bought a used Toshiba Satellite Pro without the HDD.

I put the old one into new laptop. But I had set HDD pw on my old laptop. I remember it 100% correct but the new computer does not unlock the drive. It says: HDD Password Invalidate Press any key to continue.

I tried going through Bios but it says "Registered". AndI cant select the Drive, going up/down on the list they just skip this drive.

I also tried booting straight from windows Disc to format and reinstall Windows but it askes HDD password before even booting up the disc.
Any Ideas how I can get rid of password or get the computer to accept it?
eidt: I dont necessarily need the data from the disc. I do lose some valuable pictures but I am happy if I can just format and install new wimdows.

Ok, I've got a dual P3 700 at work that we really can't use in it's current state at work. It's a fiery tower that was meant to be a print server from EFI . They won't even support the hardware on their website. It's got a Tyan Thunderbolt mainboard in it. They used their proprietary BIOS when they built it so you couldn't change the OS. After finally figuring out what mainboard was in there I went to Tyan's website and downloaded their version of the BIOS and flashed it. Now when I try to install 2K, I can partition the drive with no problems but it keeps telling me that I need to choose a windows 2000 compatible partition to install it on. It doesn't give me the option to format the partition in the setup. I am able to go into the recovery console and use the format command to format the partition, but it keeps giving me the same error in the setup. The hard drive is a SCSI IBM running from the onboard SCSI ultra 2. I checked all the BIOS & SCSI BIOS settings and they seem to be correct. I tried downloading the latest SCSI drivers and loading them before the install, but that doesn't make a difference either. I've also tried different partition sizes with no luck. What I don't get is why can I partition the drive and format it (in recovery console), but can't install on it? Can anyone give me any ideas on what to do? Thanks

I currently run IE 10 and have a problem with one particular Website (Tesco) in that when using IE the site won't accept ANY keystrokes so I can't log in to my account or do anything that requires me to type into any of their web pages.

I have had this problem for a couple of years and it was apparent in earlier versions of IE as well. When it first happened a couple of years ago I reinstalled IE, and since then I have up dated to the new versions as they have been released, but always the same issue.

I only get this problem with Tesco website, I have never had a problem anywhere else. My solution is simply to use a different browser and it works fine in Firefox, Opera and Chrome. However, IE is my default browser and I nearly always forget about the problem until I come to log in and then remember that I have to use another browser instead - it gets a bit irksome!

I have Kaspersky installed so I have tried using their virtual keyboard, but whilst that is enabled for the site, it too fails to populate any fields when I try to use it.

Given that I have a work around I'm not willing to spend too much time on this, but if anyone knows a simple fix I would like to know it!

Thanks!

Hi.

I have been asked to reload XP onto a Dell laptop.
The laptop has a licence sticker on the base, & I have been given a Win xp pro cd (sp2)
When I enter the serial no from the base of the laptop, I get an error that the number is wrong.
I have also tried to load XP Pro from one of my own cds, I have tried a first issue disk, sp1 disk, sp1a disk, and also an sp1a corporate disk, to find out if the correct xp disk was given to me. I got the same results.
Does anyone know why this serial number will not work? Or do I need to contact Microsoft.

XP Pro suddenly decided it will freeze when I go to the microsoft site to do windows update. It gets to the "Checking for the latest version of update software" and hangs. Co-incidentaly, I cannot get XP to accept cookies, even with my Kerio firewall disabled. Norton and AVG say my system is virus free. I have had this problem some weeks now, but can't point to any reason for it starting.

Self-build AMD 800 2yr old
XP Pro Service pack 1 - usually rock steady.

A:XP Can't Update or accept cookies

To enable cookies go to tools > internet options > privacy tab > and try configuring settings in the advanced menu.

I'll check for some possible solutions...

Hello, I have a HPDM server setup on a virtual machine. I have about 40 HPt520 thin clients as well. I disabled USB drives on all of the thin clients when I initially imaged them and it appears that I missed a few. I want to disable them for security reasons obviously. I know that I can do this in the registry. I changed the Start value to 4 (disabled) and the changes do not commit in HPDM. I tried using HPDM to create a task and modify the registry directly and this did not work. I also created another task that deploys the registry file on the local drive of the thin client and the executes it as a script with the command prompt. This did not work either. What I suspect is happening is that the thin client is executing the task and then windows overwrites the registry and none of the changes apply. How can I fix this? Thanks! [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\USBSTOR]"Type"=dword:00000001"Start"=dword:00000004"ErrorControl"=dword:00000001"ImagePath"=hex(2):73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,44,00,\52,00,49,00,56,00,45,00,52,00,53,00,5c,00,55,00,53,00,42,00,53,00,54,00,4f,\00,52,00,2e,00,53,00,59,00,53,00,00,00"DisplayName"="USB Mass Storage Driver""BootFlags"=dword:00000004

I am trying to update the UEFI/BIOS on a Lenovo G50-45 type 80E3 from version 2.04 (file a2cn38ee) to v2.13 (file a2cn45ww.)  All goes as normal up to the re-boot.  After the Lenovo logo finally appears (see below) I get the error message "InsydeH2O - Secure Flash   Error : Invalid firmware image!!!  Please press any key to reset system......"  Pressing any key re-boots, and again after a longer than normal delay, the Lenovo logo re-appears and it boots back to Windows.  The BIOS is not updated. I have the right file - the same downloaded file works perfectly in other identical machines; I have a backup machine of the same model.  The checksum matches that posted on the downloads support page.  When run, the downloaded a2cn45ww file self-extracts to the file c:\BIOS\A2CN45WW\A2CN45WW.exe.  When that (an archive file) is run, it self-extracts to the folder c:\users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS4B28.tmp.  In that folder is the ROM image (WIN213.bin, ~10MB) and whose checksum matches that of the same file on a machine which did update. Of significance:  Warm boots on this machine may take anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes before the Lenovo logo screen appears.  In either a normal cold boot or one-key recovery the logo appears after a second or two.  Something is hanging in the POST, I don't know what.  If I wait long enough, it eventually does start. Why I want to update the B... After updating to IE7 (from microsoft) why will the "run once" page, which you get firstly, not accept my settings?

A:Why wont IE7 accept my settings?

Perhaps there is some corruption in IE. Go to Start>Run then type cmd, click OK. In the command window type sfc /scannow, a progress bar will appear, wait for it to finish then reboot your computer. This is the standard fix for many IE problems and is worth a try.

Running XP Home SP3.

Last week the PC began asking for an Administrative password shortly after I turned it on. I was just a black screen with a smallish black box outlined in white. I'd never even heard of such a thing so I asked a friend who know computers to take a look. He told me that the system wanted some sort of password that had been entered into the BIOS settings. I told him that we'd never set up anything like that, and asked if he could get around it.

He took a small battery out of the PC, and left it out for about 30 minutes. When he put it back, it no longer asked for that password, but when it booted to windows, it did not bring up my desktop. It went to a signon page with the name Guest. And only that name. It did not show my user name (which is Mike), or show my desktop. It also wanted a password for Guest.

Since I have no password on my system, I had no idea. We left it blank, but it brought up a message box reading

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted
Please try again or consult your system administrator.

My friend booted into safe mode, where we got essentially the same result, except that this time the user was Administrator. No other users on the page. And once again it asked for a password.

He went home and got a disk called ERD and booted from that, and then went into some utility from the start menu that would allow him to reset the passwords. He reset both Guest and Administrator, and showed me that t... Read more

At work we have a group policy set to apply a certain home page to every user but I have noticed when testing with IE10 that it is not accepting the group policy homepage, I have tried running gpupdate /force and rebooting the PC but it will not accept the group policy homepage. I know it must be a security setting within IE10 but am not sure what to change to fix this? If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Are you setting the homepage via this setting?

Internet Explorer Home Page - Specify and Prevent Changing

User Configuration\
Administrative Templates\
Windows Components\
Internet Explorer\
Disable changing home page settings

It works for me IE10 64bit with 64bit tabs enabled...

OK GUYS, I got a wacky one here.

The SITUATION:
One custom built, bought parts from new egg machine, all parts were purchased from new egg! Accept the operating system!

I have ran into this before and I was able to fix it by the not so fun way of getting another 20 buck keyboard.

OK, on initial instal of windows XP pro Service Pack 3 (this CD is one of those "You preload to deliver to a customer you built a machine for") on my custom machine I can easily accept the EULA screen by hitting the F8 key per the norm.

ON another format and repartition I can once again install XP pro on my custom machine and once again easily accept the EULA screen by hitting the F8 key per the norm!

THE BRICK WALL HAPPENS. Once I attempt a 3rd format repartition and Install of Windows XP pro service pack 3, WHEN I attempt to accept the EULA portion of the instal, for some reason, my F8 key on the same keyboard I did the previous instals does not work, I can no longer accept the EULA with that same keyboard.

Now if I plug a completely different keyboard in that has never interfaced with this machine before in, I can then accept that EULA by hitting the F8 key per the norm.

The questions:
1. Is this because this CD is susposed to be used to preload an operating system for delivery to an end client who I have built a machine for?

2. Is this some type of microsoft "Don't you try and use XP pro on more than one machine" deal?

3. The scary one. Do I have some type of har... Read more

A:XP PRO Can't accept EULA on install

You effectively shot yourself in the foot with this question...

You legally can only have one copy of XP installed per licence. Either you wipe clean the previous computer, or you get another licence.

The keyboard problem you describe, though, should not be affected by this. The EULA is brought on far before you initiate any sort of registration.

Either the F8 key is getting some sort of excessive usage and is worn or the keyboard itself is unresponsive. Have you tried that keyboard in another computer?

PS viruses have absolutely no physical effect on hardware devices (except maybe the hard drive, but then only in the form of data).

Hey all, I am having multiple problems with my computer. A while back, my computer's DVD drive seemed to randomly 'die.' So, we replaced it with another one. Now, however the new DVD drive won't work. In My Computer, it shows up as an empty DVD-RAM drive, which it should. However, when I put a disk in the drive, it switches to being a CD-ROM drive. When I click on it, I get the message "Please a disk into Drive D:/" I can't get anywhere from here. I've tried different SATA ports, different cables, and even the old drive. It is having the same problem (don't think its the drive, I think its the OS) Also, I just got a new iPod for Xmas (80G classic) When I plug it into the computer with iTunes open (latest version) it says "The iPod needs to be formatted for Windows." I followed its instructions, but when iTunes finally opened, it said "The iPod is corrupt and needs to be restored." I click OK and let iTunes fix the iPod. However, I've done this 5 times so far and decided to give up on this computer. I tried the new device on another computer in the house and it works fine. Any idea whats wrong with my system? Thanks

Extra info:
-I have WinXP Pro SP2 and updated it a few days ago through windows update
-I've tried re-installing iTunes 3 times
-I've tried re-installing the DVD drive multiple times
-The DVD drive is a ASUS DRW-2041L1T
