Hamachi IP address - new modem

Q: Hamachi IP address - new modem

I have Hamachi running on my Vista operating system to have remote access to a desktop with Windows XP. Everything has run fine until today when I had to replace my modem on the Vista operating system that my wireless laptop runs on. Now, I have Hamachi still installed and running and I can see my remote access to the other computer, however my computer is not able to access the information from the other desktop Windows XP, because I have a new modem and do not know how to configure that new modem with the existing Hamachi.

So, my question is how do I set up the new wireless 2 modem to be seen by the Hamachi VPN network that is currently running all the time on my laptop to read the information on my business partner's desktop?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone.

I've ran into a problem that I can't quite figure out. My internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.

Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP
When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'

-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working

All of these options did not work.

What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.

I'd be glad to prov... Read more

That would be your ISPs' address, the router would probably be or so, in the properties, advanced button for the ipv4 of your adapter, make sure both settings are on auto, and add the correct router address in the gateway box.

I recently installed a DSL modem and hooked it up to my Router. I have static ips set up for each computer and my router set to DHCP. dont ask why, it just works.

But im worried that all someone would have to do is connect to my modem to get to my computers, they can completely bypass my router, as if it's not there :S

Need some help with a problem that just started. My HP G71 laptop, with Windows 7 Home Premium, will not connect to the internet over the wireless modem I have. Other laptops in the house have no problem in fact, that is how I am typing this right now
I checked the iP address and it starts with 169. The research I have done says that is bad...I am not an expert.

This laptop has been giving me fits lately with malware and I have frequently been running Malwarebytes and other programs to remove. I have tried these things based on a youtube video I watched for this issue.:
1. Went to cmd prompt and tried to release and renew ipconfig. Got this message: "an error occured while releasing interface wireless network connection: The RPC server is unavailable.
2. Went to control panel/network and sharing center/change adapter settings then disabled and enable device
3. Went to properties of device, then uncheck QoS packet scheduler, then went bck in and checked it again
4. Went to services and located DHCP client. It is not listed as being started. When I tried to start it, it said : "Windows
could not start the DHCP client service on local computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group
failed to start.
5. Tried to restore system to previous point from yesterday...did not work, go an error that said system resotre failed to extract the file C:/Windows\$NtUninstallKB62280$\485945278 from the restore point. the restore point was damaged or deleted.

Okay I have a D-Link DSL G604T Wireless ADSL Router (revision B3), I works fine it works both with the LAN and wireless parts, I am connected via a ethernet cable on the computer I am using currently and my mums iBook is connected via the wireless.

But it wont give my computer an IP address, It was working fine but recently it stopped working, I am not sure what I did to stop it from working.

I tried connecting via my wireless adapter D-Link DWL-G510 (revision C) and then I moved the modem/router into my room and used an ethernet cable and plugged it into my onboard ethernet port, it wouldn't assign me an IP for that connection either.

I don't have a MAC address filter running on the modem, there is no wireless security nothing on the modem side that blocks my computer.

I tried using static IP's for both a wireless connection and using the ethernet, it connects to the modem, and I can access the modem but not the internet. It appears that when using static IP's it isnt routing me to the world wide web.

So It must be something to do with my computer. I tried to do a system restore, but that doesn't work It goes through the process of restoring, then when it restarts it comes up with incomplete restore cannot complete process or something. I tried multiple restore dates to restore to and none worked.

I would just re-install windows and be done with it, but I dont have any means of backing up data that I dont want to loose

A:Modem won't assign me an IP address

The router does not assign you an IP. Your computer is supposed to ask for one. Since the iBook is working OK, your router is responding to DHCP requests properly and your coomputer is to blame.

When you set up the static IP configuration, did you fill in all the data correctly? IP, mask, gateway and DNS exactly as on the working client? (The last octet has to be different for the IP address of course.)

Have you removed any malware recently? It could be that the removal program overdid it. Maybe run WinSockFix..

From your PC, post the output of "ipconfig /all" command.

I'm trying to find the correct information. Hooking directly into a modem is it possible to get a 192.xxx. Now I mean a normal modem. Not a modem router combo or some wireless nonsense. Is there any way a person would get a 192.xxx ip address or is the person just not being honest and hooked up into a router?

When you ping, tracert or DDoS attack or what-have-you my IP address, who/what do you reach ?
Im understanding that a modem is just a media converter. It's got no IP address of its own.
But then Wikipedia states (under "cable modem"): "With respect to the OSI model of network design, a cable modem is both Physical Layer (Layer 1) device and a Data Link Layer (Layer 2) forwarder. As an IP addressable network node, cable modems support functionality at other layers...] ...The Network Layer (Layer 3) is implemented as an IP host in that it has its own IP address used by the network operator to maintain the device."
If it's not the modem's ip address, are they referring to TR-69..?

I've had a great network for years but then my DI-624 died and I replaced it with a D-Link WBR-2310. It conected to the PC just fine and using DHCP it assigns IP's to the compters. The problem is that the Comcast modem will not give the the WAN an IP or DNS. When I check status the LAN has Host, IP and Gateway. When I check status on the WAN these are blank. Thus, I can't get on the internet using the network. I used the same cables I had with the DI-624 if that makes any difference? So, the network works and the router gives IPs but the WAN has nothing coming in. Help?

I can't log into my MODEM. I was able to set it up once using the default gateway IP address about a week ago. Then my kids unplugged it and something changed when plugged back in. When I try to log into my modem using the IP address it just gives me a web page saying its unable to connect. My internet works fine, I am able to ping the address and it replies with no data loss, I can trace route to it, I can release and renew the IP address DHCP server. I am just unable to bring up the webpage to login. I have turned off my firewall (windows firewall). I am just at a loss on what to try next. I want to turn on my Wi-Fi and such, essentially administer my router for my computer. I have did a hard reset, held the button for the recommended 15 seconds with both power on and power off but no change. The modem is a Technicolor TC8717T.

Charter up my internet price and told me they would put me on a promo plan if I came in and got one of their modems. I picked up the modem (Cisco DCP3008) yesterday and hooked it up tonight. I had everything connected through my DIR 615 and Charter came up asking me if I was upgrading, etc... needing to verify and so on. I went through that and the last step it said it need to restart the modem to finalize. The modem restarted and came online, however the browser never indicated the processed had finalize. I call Charter, we wired the modem directly to my laptop and got a connection. I thought things were good. I hooked back into the router restarted the modem, all lights came on, started the router and no IP address. I went into setup and clicked clone MAC address and hit save, still no IP address after going to status, dhcp release and dhcp renew.

I reset the router back to factory settings and it still would not pull and IP address. The router worked great before the new modem. Any suggestions to get my router to pull an IP address?

I'm trying to get Ubuntu 8.04 online and to do this I need to know the private IP address of my modem, which is an NEC NTA-3110 ADSL.

The problem is that my network card is detecting a private IP address automatically (169.x.x.x) and this is not quite in the range that I would expect. Normally it is in the 192.168.x.x range. The reason it is doing this is because the router is not offering any private IP addresses.

I've googled extensively. I know this information should be in the documentation or the manual, but the ISP gave me neither. I know I should ask the ISP but they won't have anything to do with Linux. They just tell you to run the Windows set up disk.

If anyone could offer any help on this, I'd appreciate it very much.

Hi everyone, having a frustrating night getting my ADSL2+ connection going. Just got a Billion 7402G modem/router delivered and I am trying to get it working on an XP PC.

My NIC card works fine, and has the latest drivers. I plug in the modem as described in the manual, and follow all configuration instructions including - Select the Obtain an IP address automatically and the Obtain DNS server address automatically radio buttons.

But I am not being issued an IP address. The manual says this should just be automatic and has no recourse if it is not.

I set an IP address manually within the range of the router, and was able to logon to the modem via the webgui. But no internet access.
Billion support tells me "You should only need to login to router with default settings, navigate to Quick Start page, enter your ISP login details & apply, router should then connect, when finished save config to flash. Nothing else should be required, computer should automatically connect. Ensure that software firewalls aren't blocking access."

OK, so to do this, I need to put in the manual IP address... why is the manual saying to set my LAN connection to obtain IP and DNS setting automatically, and why is this not working for me? Anyway I change the settings to manual and reboot, try the suggestion. All firewalls are disabled.

I have now manually entered an IP address for my PC that allows me to login to the router. Without doing this I cannot even get to this setup pag... Read more

A view of your IP address (ipcoinfig /all) will help. You might try restarting your modem, or find out if you're getting a dynamic or static address from your ISP.

You could also have a router/modem combo device. Just realized that you posted the model. Its not a combo device.

More information will be needed to actually help you.

One last thing is to make sure that your ISP can contact your modem. You will have to call them to test the connection.

Hi all -
we were happily getting along with our RCN cable Motorola modem and DLink wireless 655 until the last couple of weeks. The internet would intermittently not be available, without warning. First couple of times we power cycled the modem and router, and it worked, but then stopped being available altogether. I got some support from RCN, the cable provider (they own the modem and it's old, so naturally that was my first thought). I now have a new modem and the situation is exactly the same.
The error message that I get is that the IP address for the network cannot be found.

I got internet access by bypassing the router, connecting the modem directly to my (Windows XP) PC, releasing and renewing the IP address, and power cycling the modem. However, the internet still intermittently shuts down, and of course turning off the computer necessitates the whole procedure again. And now we have no wireless.

SOooo - should we assume it's the router, and a new one would solve our problem? Of do we just need to reset the IP address of the router? Or has anyone heard of this and maybe has some light to shed...???
Many thanks

Implies ISP, modem, cable or computer problem. If you have another Motorola modem you have LEDs that give a pretty good idea of what might be happening. And most modems have some LEDs. What are they telling you on the "shut downs"?

We tried and got as far as the 3 of us sitting in our lobby, but when we go to start the game 2 of us(my self and the pc connecting using my ExIP) get a ready signal while the hamachi ip gets a waiting signal. eventually the game starts with just the two of us playing, myself (host), and the pc who connected using my ExIP. who can i get that third pc in the game.

1) uninstall hamachi completely using an advanced uninstaller.
2) uninstalling my antivirus completely
3) disabling my firewall

but the thing is i think my router is blocking it although i cant seem to get on it, i hope you can help me i really wanna play with my friends...

Edit: I managed to get in my router but i still dont know what to do

I have just installed Bitdefender Total Protection 2011 today. Bitdefender, however, will not allow me to use Hamachi. My connection to all of the other users in my server is being blocked by Bitdefender. I configured the firewall settings myself, and set Hamachi's network settings to allow everything. I allowed VPN, set it as a home network, allowed all IP's both ways, and allowed both UDP/TCP. I even tried disabling the firewall, but my problem remains. I do not want to disable Bitdefender, and am trying to find a way around this problem. If anyone else could help me elaborate on this situation, please provide some insight.

I read that here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi_%28software%29
I am new here and just trying to help.. hope you get this working.

-No, there isn't an option to join a specific IP in the LAN games list (there is only a Search option, which doesn't work for me).
-We have followed all troubleshooting advice on Hamachi's wiki, forwarded our ports, etc. and we all still get the same problem.

To be more specific, here's the troubleshooting page for Hamachi:

1. Once you and your friend have Hamachi set up, ensure you can both ping each other, and chat with each other. If either of these don't work, stop and ensure you've configured your firewall properly. [We can all ping and chat, or at least all our connections are green]
2. Some games are not intelligent when it comes to having more than one network adapter, and you may need to re-prioritize your network adapter order. Go into Network Connections > Advanced > Advanced Settings > and put the Hamachi adapter at the top of the list. [We've all done this step]
3. At this point, see if your game works. If not, check out our game specific articles [The wiki does not have an entry for JOTR]

Okay I've been searching ways to play Age of Mythology online through Direct IP/LAN using Hamachi(not the online version through ESO) I've followed the guide at http://www.cynicsunlimited.com/2007/06/30/tutorial-internet-gaming-with-age-of-mythology-and-hamachi/ till the end. But what next? I've installed Hamachi on both PC's to be used for multiplayer gaming. I have the Hamachi addresses on both machines. Also, when I try to host a game from either of the two computers, the game does detect both the addresses: my actual IP address as well as the Alternate address(given by Hamachi). However, the client does not seem to be able to detect the hosted game.

Once a game had been hosted on one PC, I did this from the other PC:
Multiplayer>LAN/Direct IP>(entered some nickname). In the Type a direct IP field, I entered the Alternate address(or the Hamachi address). Yet after the 15 sec timeout, the hosted game is not visible and I simply receive a message: Could not join a game at the given address. Please try another.

What could be wrong? Many guys seem to have been able to play multiplayer successfully using the aforementioned guide. Where'm I going wrong?

A few days ago I installed (or tried to install) Hamachi as I wanted to play private games with my friends on Gmod. We're all relatively new to Gmod. My friends managed to install it with no problem, but mine hasn't even begun installing yet, despite the fact I tried to install it before they did. The status bar of the installation has been empty for 3 days now, and the fact that I can't cancel the installation to restart it doesn't help either.

I don't know why this is. Have I run out of memory on my pc? Do I need to buy a new one in order to install it? Is my pc too old? I've only been playing on the pc for a few months, and I'm really not sure what to do.

A:Hamachi not installing

Hi, Don't believe it would take 3 days to install, possibly 3 minutes.
So first step is to stop the 'install' routine.
If you can use 'Task manager' (so if WIndows 8 it's the three keys pressed together; Ctrl,Alt,Delete) then choose 'Task manager'.
Wait for 30 sec to launch. At the top of the list you should see a line for the installer, right click on it and choose 'End task'.
Now you can try again. You might need to check on the requirements for the program to run on your PC, there might be some files that you need to install first, I really don't know this software though. Someone else might/would know more than I do about this.
Another possibility is that the software didn't even start to install, you might check with your friends about the exact website/link they used.

yes i'm using hamachi its like a private sever ( kinda like gamespy ) for games, but when i try and log in it just says that my firewall might be blocking hamachi, eventhough i've aloud it to pass threw.

A:Something blocking Hamachi

Was it your software firewall you checked? Do you have a router too as you may need to forward a port.

I was having the same problem as everyone else in this thread:
Basically (to reiterate) I can see games, but I can't join them.

At the end, turkishcasa said that he was able to solve the problem by adding Hamachi's mac address to the dmz-zone. My question is fairly simple: how do I do this?
I don't know where to get Hamachi's (not LogMeIn's) mac address, and I don't know what the dmz-zone is or how I can add stuff to it.

I've been thinking about using Hamachi to play a game online which would normally require someone to portfoward. I don't have much knowledge of how it works, so I'd like to be sure I can understand it and be safe using it.

My knowledge of Hamachi is that it creates a VPN (An emulated LAN?) which can be accessed on the internet which allows people to access LAN Functionality as if people were on the same physical network. This would allow me to join others in their games where it normally would require forwarding on the host's behalf.
This would be nice, but I have some concerns/questions.

First of all, how safe is Hamachi itself, and is it stable? I've heard alot about it causing network instability and such - even to the point where people have to reinstall their OS.

Can people view my shared folders? If it is emulating a LAN, would it be possible for people in the Hamachi network to see my folders and documents? Is there a way I can make it private or is this a non issue?

How safe is it in context with other users in the network? If a user who joins the Hamachi group/network has an unsafe/infected machine, can that affect my own machine? Also, are there any exploits in hamachi that can lead to security issues?
I just want to be sure that when I use Hamachi I am solely using it for accessing a multiplayer game, and that my system is secure and my documents and such are private.

I'd really appreciate if someone could answer this, thank you.

A:Questions about Hamachi

For this discussion, a game server might just be a personal computer in someone's home.

When you ask to make a VPN connection to the game server, the Hamachi software on your computer will connect to LogMeIn's server. That server will connect to the game server. If all goes well, there will be a direct connection between your computer and the game server. (Think of it like plugging a really long LAN cable between the two computers.) If a direct connection cannot be established, all VPN data traffic is relayed thru one of LogMeIn's servers.

After installing Hamachi, when you first turn Hamachi on, Windows should ask you to pick a network type. If you select Public, then Windows should not share any of your files.

Any exploits that could take place between computers on the same network can also take place between computers in the same Hamachi group.

A friend of mine wants to be able to access the resources on his home network when he is travelling with his laptop. Those resources include a network printer and NAS hard drive.

He does not want to use a product like LogMeIn where he is essentially controlling one of the computers at home. In other words, if he connects remotely using his laptop and opens a Publisher file, he wants it to be opened in the version of Publisher that is on his laptop, rather than have it open in Publisher on the computer that is at home.

Will the free version of Hamachi (or some other product) work like this, or does he need a VPN router to do this?

A:Hamachi vs VPN router?

The easiest way is to remote into a PC on his network. I'm not sure why he is trying to avoid this?

You could do it with a VPN yes. If you did want to do it via a VPN then the simplist way would be to get a VPN router and setup a VPN dial in account for the laptop. Just bare in mind that opening files will take a very long time as they are being pulled across the internet via a VPN... Printing will also be very slow.

Hello everybody,

Recently I have been trying, without success, to download Hamachi to join my friend's server in Project Zomboid. When I try to install Hamachi it gets to about 80%, stalls for a bit, and then a small window comes up saying "An internal error has occured." What can I do?

I have a question about Hamachi. In the Network and Sharing Center it says that the Hamachi network (Network 2 on the picture) has No Internet Access. Is this right? Also in the Hamachi window, my icon is grey. Is it supposed to be green?

Thanks, MoRiL

I am curious as to the general reputation of the LogMeIn Hamachi software.
I have seen it used with several of the "call this number, pay us, and we will fix your computer remotely" schemes. Also I have noticed it being installed in a lot of the logs of infected computers in the "Am I Infected" section as well as infected computers at my office.
What do you fellow IT professionals think of this software?

A:LogMeIn Hamachi

LogMeIn is fine software, but it can be used for evil.  It allows you to take control of another machine which can be very dangerous.  If you're looking for a remote control tool take a look at Teamviewer

Well installed Hamachi a VPN program to trick computer into thinking it was on LAN so I could play a game online with friends.

Ever since I did this no Port 21 FTP connections work...So I can hardly FTP into anywhere but if I FTP into a server with FTP on another server with a different port it works perfect.

So Hamachi installed some thing that is stopping this...I tried to uninstall it but nothing changed..

Any ideas...

A:Hamachi stopped all FTP

Do a system restore to before the original installation.
