Will SATA-300 HHD work 150 board

Q: Will SATA-300 HHD work 150 board

I got a SATA-300 HDD for a really good deal and want to know if it will work with my motherboard which supports SATA-150. If the 300's will work but just run at 150 that is fine, I just want to know if they will function.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The mother board is an ASUS P5Q? I know the adapter is working because I can hook the cable that comes from the case to another sata slot shut down turn the enclosure on and boot and I have a third hard drive. But that is not how I would like to do it. If the mother board would recognize the enclosure it would give me an icon in the tray to shut it off and I would not have to reboot to back up something.

Thank u for any help

I have a pc with a Biostar 7050 m2 board running XPsp3. I want to install an ide drive from my dead pc with all my photos and music in a spare bay rather than clutter my desk with an external caddy. My ide port on the board is occupied by the optical drives and I have a sata drive on one of the four sata connectors. Is there a reliable way of converting an ide disk to a sata connection, a friend mentioned its possible to go ide to usb but didn't elaborate, has anyone heard of or used this method?

A:using a ide HDD on a sata board

Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822998001 could be used to convert the IDE to SATA.

Or, you could just add an additional IDE controller card to an available PCI slot.

Should cost about the same either way.

Hi. Me and a friend each have an Ideapad 310 without ODD. Instead we have the HDD caddy/bracket. This is the configuration shipped from the store, we havent put it in ourselves. Anyway. We would like to actually use the HDD caddy since the 120GB SSD is filling up. The problem being that Lenovo hasnt included the mSATA to SATA adapter at the end of the caddy. Im guessing that this is because its a budget laptop and in this case the caddy is just to fill the empty space rather than actually indended for use right out of the box. After research we found that the part we need should be the ODD FFC L80SM (part NO 5C10M68235) Turns out the part number was wrong. But this is the part. Turns out that getting hold of the part is harder than finding out its name. So thats really my question here today, is there any way to get this from Lenovo or other retailer? Don't suppose there's a way to make a sata drive work in a board that is for IDE hard drives?

Had to ask.... lol

A:SATA Hard Drive in an IDE Board?

There are a couple ways.

There are PCI cards that let you use a SATA drive through the PCI bus.

There are also SATA to IDE adapters.

Either way you'll likely lose some of the SATA speed, going through extra devices, especially the cheaper ones slightly effects your performance.

Hello all,
First post. I'm trying to install a Sedna SE-PCIE-SATA6G-02, PCIE SATA III 2-port adapter into my computer but it doesn't seem to be recognized by Windows 10.

I've recently added an SSD drive to my system and had to load the AHCI driver by booting into safe mode to do so. I'm wondering if I need to do something similar with this. I have run the setup program from the enclosed CD without any luck, and checked that it is the same version as is on the Sedna website. The card/controller does not show up in Device Manager.

I am not running a RAID configuration and I will not be booting from this add-in card. I just want a faster connection for my external hard drive to do back-ups which I connect via an ESATA connection. So far I only have the single SSD and one CD/DVD drive connected to my system.

My system is an MSI K9A2 Platinum V1.0, with an AND Phenom II X4 965 quad processor with 8-GB of ddr3 RAM, and a GTX 780 Ti video card.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Len

A:How to install PCIE SATA 3 board

Some further info...

While the adapter doesn't show up in Device Manager I used HWiNFO64 and can see its properties. So I THINK it may operate if I can just figure out how to properly load the drivers for it.

Thanks again for any help.

Hey folks,

I'm trying to hook up a new 1TB hard drive on my old dell dimension 8200. I had both hd slots already filled so I removed the original slave drive to make room, and connected the the new 1TB SATA drive via an adapter that plugs into the slot on the hd and turns into the IDE connection (with pins) and power supply input on the other side,.

The SATA drive came with no jumper, and I read that the jumper settings for SATA had different meanings anyway. Not sure how the motherboard would respond, I started going thru the configs, borrowing the jumper from my old drive to use on the SATA

IDE drive:.....master...master...master..master...master...cable select...cs.....cs
SATA drive:..none......1/2........3/4........5/6.......7/8.......none...........1/2....3/4

etc...

I always get one or more of the following error messages in various combiations.

Primary hard disk drive 0 not found
Primary hard disk drive 1 not found
Plug and play configuration error (x3)

Then I gave up and hooked my old drive back up the original way and it was recognized and the OS booted without hesitation.

So... Anyone have any experience connecting SATA drives to IDE and/or can offer some insight? I must have my TB of storage
***update*** I found the master/slave jumper on the adapter. tried both settings, no luck there either. more specifically: drive 0 (ide) set to master, no jumper on the sata drive itself, tried both settings on adapter.

A:connecting a SATA HD to an IDE cable/board

I don't know about connecting SATA drives to IDE connector.. You'd propably have better luck getting a add-on PCI SATA controller card, or a USB cable to connect it. The onboard IDE controller propably won't understand how the SATA drive is configured... Although the adapter is supposed to make it.

Even though the following is a question, I do welcome opinions on what the right answer is to my situation: I have an IDE type motherboard. The motherboard model number is SV266M (See http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813183009 [Date accessed: 02-28-2015 @ 7:37 PM]). I am not sure but I believe my motherboard was made in 2004. Is there a way I can connect a 1 Terabyte Sata Hard Drive to my SV266M motherboard? I have heard of a Sata Bridgeboard (SATA to IDE). I have not used one before. A matter of fact, I have only seen the Youtube Video below.
How to connect SATA devices in a PATA (IDE) only PC system
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwRClahcUCI
(Date accessed: 02-28-2015 @ 7:40 PM)

They even sell this bridgeboard (SATA to IDE) online.
Kingwin SATA to IDE Bridge Board ADP-06
http://www.amazon.com/Kingwin-SATA-Bridge-Board-ADP-06/dp/B002SZDOM6
(Date accessed: 02-28-2015 @ 7:45 PM)
The bridgeboard above above has a 3.7 out of 5 stars. However, I am not sure if this bridgeboard would be compatible with my motherboard. If there is a better bridge board (SATA to IDE) that you know of, please let me know. Do you think the Bridgeboard (SATA to IDE) would work with the SV266M motherboard?

A:Solved: Will Sata Bridgeboard (SATA to IDE) work on IDE Motherboard

They sometimes work and sometimes they don't. To make things worse your motherboard is really old and uses a VIA chipset which had a lot of compatibility issues.

You may want to look into a PCI SATA Controller card instead if you need to use this dinosaur: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007863 600022728

Hi all,
So my second query is regarding the SATA ports on the board.
Currently I have a 250gb Samsung SSD and a HGST 1TB 7200rpm drive with no optical.  The two drives are connected via SATA 3 and SATA 4 ports.
SATA 1 and SATA 2 ports are empty.
First question is, is this correct or should the drives be connected via SATA 1 and 2?
My aim is to add a third 512GB SSD essentially wanting:
256: OS boot drive + documents512: Junk drive (downloads/temp etc)1TB: Either remove it or keep it and hold backups of the above + drive image
With the 4th SATA port, most likely a future optical drive such as bluray writer.
So it's just making the config correct for the above - like the memory thread, it's purely knowing what the numbers indicate - ie: logic dictates you start at 1 and finish at 4 but hardware logic I'm sure differs :)

Thanks in advance

I just built myself a system with an ASUS P4P800S-X mainboard, and for storage I'm using a Western Digital WD800JD SATA hard drive in addition to a Maxtor 32049H2 PATA drive.

Over the past few weeks, there have been about four instances where the system has completely frozen, and immediately preceding that freeze was a "click" like the hard disk powered down. In the Event Viewer, I have also seen multiple instances of Error #11 (controller error on my WD drive) and a couple instances of Warning #51 (error while in a paging operation, for the same drive).

I've run diagnostics on both my hard drives and regularly monitor SMART attributes and drive temperature. Everything's in perfect shape in every way -- EXCEPT for those errors reported by Windows and the mysterious crashes.

Now, I've searched forums all across the 'Net, and I have found a couple other people who have had this same problem with the combination of a WD SATA hard disk and the ASUS P4P800S-X mainboard. I haven't found any updated drivers for either piece of hardware, and ASUS hasn't released a BIOS update.

My question is this -- does anyone else have the combination of a P4P800S-X and a WD SATA drive, and if so, have you encountered this problem? The crashes happen rather infrequently, but they come at rather awkward times (watching a DVD, accessing the Internet, running Windows Media Player or Winamp, etc). Also, the "click" concerns me. A:Issues with P4P800S-X board and WD SATA drives

The same problem...

Yes, I had the same problem. During game play, sometimes even in the menu, and with the 3D text screen saver running my system would freeze with the hdd light on preceded by a "twang" from the hard drive, requiring a reboot. The motherboard was a P4P800S-X and a WD800JD SATA hard drive. The P4P800S-X seems to have a problem controlling a SATA hard drive. I chased this problem for days thinking it was a video problem. Then I removed the SATA hdd and installed an IDE hdd and it worked fine. I have since returned that motherboard and upgraded to a P4P800E-Deluxe + another WD800JD and set it up for RAID-0. With this new set-up I haven't had a problem. I would suggest that you consider upgrading your motherboard (the probable culprit) or doing as you have stated and avoid a SATA hdd. This really sucks for Asus, they're suppose to be "top of the line". They don't even show P4P800S-X on their products list anymore, they kinda "swept it under the rug".

Referring to article: http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-18558-Issues-with-P4P800SX-board-and-WD-SATA-drives.html.

The error you?re getting (click and temporary freeze of the system) is a conflict with your AGP graphics cards; because, it cannot pass the 3D Mark 2001SE.

Go to DriverGuide.com and update the BIOS for the P4P800S-X board. You will download an extractable file to create a boot-up disk. Make sure nothing interrupts that update; because, you can render your mother board useless.

After the update, the board will operate like it should running the SATA drives.

Thanks for the update... looks like they finally got around to fixing that error at the BIOS level. Since my PATA hard disk has been working fine for a while, I had pushed this into the back of my mind...

Anyways, it's nice to know that if I wanted to upgrade to SATA, I actually could.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if you can help me with an Issue I'm having.

Have a PC with an EPOX EP-8RDA6+PRO NF2 board with 2 Nvida Sata / 4 Silicon Image Raid Sata ports.

Has an AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 1.5GB of Memory, and AGP ATI All-In-Wonder 9600xt.

I am trying to convert it to a Server for our home network by installing 2 Seagate 1TB hard drives.

Primary drive is a 160GB Seagate IDE drive and also there is a IDE DVD+RW drive installed.
Whenever I try to start the machine from being powered down, it goes through post, identifies the IDE drives, then sits there and then Identifies the SATA drives (which I have on the 2 NVIDIA SATA ports).

After that, it just hangs and does nothing.

Now if I push the restart button on the case, it will go through just like it should and start up.

It seems like it's almost taking too long for the SATA drives to spin up and it's causing it to hang up the POST.

Anyone have any ideas or solutions to this?

I did only have a 300 watt power supply in there and thought maybe it was too weak for all those drives and devices so I swapped in a 420 watt and it is still doing the same thing.

While it's intended as a server, I don't want it on 24X7, so I have it set so it will Wake on LAN, but it won't work when I can't get past POST. So right now I'm stuck.

Anyone seen an issue like this before?

A:SATA drives won't pass POST on NForce2 board

Since the MB is a few years old, it probably has a SATA v1 controller and it's not recognizing the new SATA v2 HDDs you've installed.

Check with Seagate to find out if there's a way to resolve it. Some HDDs have a jumper to set it to the older SATA v1 throughput. Others require a software application to configure it to work with older SATA v1 controllers.

x-posted to r/thinkpad Thinkpad P51. My goal is to remove the HDD platter and replace it with a 2.5" SSD. I thought that the hard part was going to be not to break any of the plastic clips when removing the back cover : ) I watched this vid: http://download.lenovo.com/lts/RTPW1410/FOF/RTPW1410-P50_REM_FRU_03_HardDiskDrive.mp4 and also read about it in the HW manual. It sure seems easy enough but this is the first time I am doing this. Prior experience was on older notebooks where the HDD just "slid" away from the system board. The video seems to imply that you can just lift the plastic tab of the sata connector and lift up and away from the system board. When I tried that I met with a lot of resistance and it felt like I was a second away from ripping the plastic tab right off of the connector. I tried to see if I could work a spudger somewhere in there to help lift it up but I could not find any way to do that. Suggestions and hand holding most welcome. I received my new Plextor PX716SA SATA drive (hope I have the model # right - it's the dual-layer SATA drive). Put simply, I cannot boot the system if this drive is attached.

My board is an Asus k8V-Deluxe. I have three other SATA devices, all three are hard drives, and they are recognized and run fine.

However, if I plug the Plextor into the Promise 20378 controller (running in IDE mode), it fails during bios boot, detection phase, with a message that my hardware is misconfigured. This happens on either drive, and I've checked the connections and all.

If I plug it into the VIA VT8237 Southbridge connectors, it'll detect, but I'm not sure it's detecting correctly - it sees it as a Plextor during detection, but in the BIOS Boot Devices screen it shows "MBA UNDI (Bus0 Slot)" - but partway through booting into windows, it'll fail with an Inaccessible_Boot_Device error. I've tried disabling it in the BIOS Boot Priority screen, but still get the same error.

System boots perfectly fine as long as the SATA cable for that device is unplugged.

Anybody have any advice? Anyone know for sure if this board is compatible with this drive? Can't seem to find anything that says yea or nay.

Appreciate any help/advice. I did go to Plextor's site, but it wasn't any help.

Oh, and it's getting juice, I can open/close the door and the light comes on during boot.

If the drive is detected then the SATA 1/5 versus 3.0 is not likely an issue.

But the drive needs to be initialized, partitioned and formated before it will get a driver letter and be accessible.

To do that you must use Disk Management and here's how: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000/

From what i read on Intel's site, this Intel946GZ supports max 4gb ram @ 800MHz FSB, so there should be no problem with installing your 2x2gb PC-6400....have you run a memory check on those 2x2gb sticks?

My work is mostly virus removal and setting up and troubleshooting small networks so I really don't get into comparing processors and motherboards and know very little about what compares to what.

How does one figure out exactly which processors are compatible with this board?

It has six SATA connectors. Does this mean I can run six stand-alone hard disks simultaneously -- meaning no RAID?

I'm not a gamer. The only game I ever play is solitaire. I run only business-type applications. I'm currently running

Heres the deal, i've got about a 4 year old computer and it runs pretty well (or so it did). But not too long ago what i expect happened is the video card died on me, it still works, but it displays character over run and strange things (lines, weird characters, ect.). I am pretty sure everything else works just fine because i can still get to the loading screen for XP and everything, just not the log in screen. The graphics card I think broke is a GeForce 6600 GT, AGP interface, and 2 DVI ports. ANYWAYS, now the real question: i want to replace my video card and found a video card thats twice as good as the one i have for almost as much as it would cost to replace the old one with one identical. The only problem i see here is that the old one is an AGP and my mother board only has AGP and PCI slots. Whereas the video card i was looking at is a PCI x 16. My question is, will i still be able to get my computer working with a newer motherboard? (I have heard that if you update your mother board without upgrading your ENTIRE computer, it wont work right.)

Here are the parts that i was looking into:

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131042R (also is this a decent mother board? im not so good with motherboards )

A:Mother board ports won't work

The problem is not the ports, the problem is that the computer is not successfully posting(booting).

Please post all the exact parts you bought including the full models of the CPU and power supply.

Have you ensured you have all the power connectors connected and that the motherboard is not grounding or shorting out on the case?

Have you gone step by step through the Troubleshooting guide at the top of this forum section: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/580000-troubleshooting-guide-problem-builds.html

Are you using a hard drive with Windows 7 already installed on it from another pc? If yes then no you have to install Windows 7 onto this computer and please remember one license per pc so if this hard drive has Windows 7 from another pc, you cannot use the same disk to install new to another hard drive that is already in use on another pc.

OK, just a quickie here. I really want to get an N-force mobo. I have heard good things about them. However, I will probally want to put an ATI card into it. Will it make any difference what so ever to the performance of games etc or do NForce 2 boards simply prefer Nvidia cards?

cheers
Tom

A:Will an N-Force Board work better with an NVidia gfx card?

None whatsoever. It will work just as well with an ATI card as it will with an nVidia.

Hi! This is my first post on here, I'm actually stumped for once! I got a free computer from one of my friends (it's better than my old athlonxp machine), and put a fresh copy of XP Pro on it. I got all the drivers from MSI's website, loaded everything, and it's great...runs super fast, quiet, no issues...killer deal for free!
the only problem is that the sound doesn't work! I have tried reinstalling the drivers several times. I've verified that the onboard sound is turned on in the bios. The drivers are the most recent and installed correctly. The Device Manager even shows that the sound card is installed!! I don't understand what the problem could be...
I don't really want to get a pci sound card because there are only two pci slots on the mobo. one of which is already taken up by my wireless card! And I don't have any extra USB slots either (keyboard, mouse, ipod, external hd).
I've physically examined the board, and it doesn't look like there is anything damaged around the soundchip...
it looks like the chip says "RTL8281CL" on it...
I attached a shot of my device manager. (PS I have my wireless card disabled ATM because I am using ethernet for the time being)
any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
and my system info is below:
Mboard: MSI 761GM2-V
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200 (2.0Ghz)
1GB DDR Ram
Onboard vid, sound, ethernet. PCI Wireless.
Windows XP sp3 version 5657

Thanks,
Zach

This is my shot in the dark that someone may know a solution to my problem. I recently upgraded my system and wanted to try the onboard sound on my mobo. I have the A7N8X deluxe motherboard. The guy that built it said it worked with his analog speakers. I can't get it to work with analog headphones or my dolby digital speakers.

I have boston accustics with surround sound and subwoofer. They all plug into the subwoofer and then have one central plug that normally plugs into the digital plug on my old sound blaster audigy.

I tried EVERY HOLE (light blue, lime, pink and there was 2 others close to a SPDIF plugin) the plug would fit into for both my speakers and head phones. I Went in the nForce Control panel and turned on and off analog and digital speakers. I have turned on and off Dolby Encoding and Dolby surround.

Anyone got any ideas?

Line out connector should be the green one, I think. Sure you have correct settings selected in BIOS too? Which operating system are you using?

Hey guys, I've been thinking about building my own computer and I was wondering if my old HP Pavilion hard drive would work in my new pc. I hear alot about having to install windows, but windows is already on my hard drive right?? If I can't use it someone please tell me what I should do...

A:HP hard drive work in new mother board

Yes you will have to reinstall Windows, and if you only have a OEM disk, you will have to buy it again as well.

This is because you are changing you motherboard and with that comes a new chipset, etc.
