favorites folders not showing in explorer

Q: favorites folders not showing in explorer

I have a few subfolders in the favorites folder, and although I can see the subfolder in explorer, it doesn't show up in the folder tree on the left. Even if I go to the subfolder (doubleclicking in the main view), it still doesn't show up in the tree on the left.

Is it because it's a special kind of folder, and has everyone the same behaviour, or is something wrong at my end?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows Seven's default doesn't show all folders. Go to "folder options" and at the bottom is the navigation pane options, check "show all folders" then OK. That should do the trick for ya if I understand you correctly.

Hello
I have a windows vista premimum loaded laptop with internet explorer 8 installed. Everything was working fine up to a point when i had to reset the internet explorer settings to its default.

Prior to the reset, I was able to add favorites and view the favorites in my address bar asi begin to type the letters. But after the reset, this behaviour stopped.

I have tried the autocomplete path. The address bar and the favorites check box are ticked under tools > options > content > settings. I un-checked clicked ok and checked back again, just to make sure that it gets reset in the registry. But still I cannot get the favorites to display in address bar as I type.

This happened before and I followed a registry tweak which corrected the behavoiur. Unfortunately I cannot find the link anymore and I did not add it to favorite !!. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explorer Favorites not showing up !!

Ok, Looks like either no has a solution or no one has bothered to reply. Anyways, for the benefit of others who might have faced the same problem, find below the solution that I figured out.

In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Content.
Click Settings under Auto Complete
Make sure Address Bar is ticked and so is Favorite.
But most importantly, make sure that "Use Windows Search for better results" is un-ticked.

Click OK and OK again.

Now you will be able to see favourites appearing in the address bar.

Thanks for viewing.

Hello Guys,

When I use the Internet Explorer Metro app and click on the address bar I can see frequent sites but pinned sites and favorites are missing. Here is my process. I scan documents onto my pc and save them to a file on my network drive. Then, I need to email these pdfs to other employees. I used to open Outlook, create a new email then click on "attach file". I would then get a drop down menu of the recent files I've worked with. There were some files on this recent list that I wanted to remove. I couldn't figure out how to remove only the select one or two files, so I cleared the history. Now, the files I view are not being saved to this drop down menu. I have to climb through 4 levels of files to get to the one document I need. Ok, this question has been asked around many corners of the Internet and these forums and I haven't found a "real" answer so I'm asking it again and hopefully seeking a final resolution to the problem.
Symptoms

When "Protected Mode" is turned On, users are unable to view some folders in the file upload dialog that they can normally view (e.g. under Documents, Pictures, etc.).When viewing the same folders in Explorer running as the same user as the Internet Explorer instance, the missing folders are viewable.Launching Internet Explorer "as an administrator" allows the user to view the missing folders (but this is not recommended due to security concerns).
Workarounds
So far, the workaround that I found was to either run some crazy tool from BleepingComputer called Unhide that resets everything on your system -- this is the sledge hammer-to-thumbtack approach.  Another one was to go into Organize > Folder and
search options > View and uncheck the hide options and select the show radio option.  The last one was to search for the folder in the file upload dialog, right-click the folder, and uncheck Hidden.
None of these, IMHO, are valid solutions to the real problem which is that something is special about this folder that is causing IE in Protected Mode to treat the file as Hidden.
Thoughts
The last "workaround" seems to indicate that the "hidden" file attribute is set for the file, but this doesn't app... Read more

This is an interesting problem in that it is really only an inconvenience, but something I still have to address.

I have a few machines that are running IE7 (7.0.5730.11). These machines are all running XP Pro + SP2 with the latest updates, and my machine is running the SP3 (v.3244) release candidate. When you open the favorites menu by clicking the star, it opens just fine. However, if the person has a folder inside of their favorites and they click on that to expand the list, it delays for about 10-15 seconds before finally opening.

We recently migrated from an extremely old version of Norton Antivirus to Trend Micro Officescan, so I figured that might have had something to do with it. I disabled real-time scanning/firewall on one machine, and then completely removed Trend on another machine, but both scenarios did not fix the problem.

I've been googling this for a while now and I keep coming up empty. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just in case it helps, the machines in questions are all various Dell hardware models (Latitudes, Optiplexes, Precisions, etc.) with fairly similar components (Core 2 Duos, 2 Gigs of RAM, Nvidia Quadro cards, etc.)

I was testing my FTP server tonight and when I connect to the home directory there's two folders that show up (RECYCLER and System Volume Information) in the home directory that shouldn't be there. When I go into my home directory in Windows Explorer these folders don't show up there, even if I choose to show the hidden files. If I can't get these folders to show up in Windows Explorer I can't exclude them from showing up in my FTP Server software. I'm having a very bizarre issue on a laptop running Windows 7. Windows explorer is showing all items as the wrong size, it's as if the math is off by a few 0s. For example an outlook file is showing up a 548 GB which clearly isn't possible. I looked up the
file on another computer and it was actually 5.48 GB. Every file on the computer shows up that way. It also doesn't matter if I'm looking at a file on the local drive or on a mapped drive, it still shows the incorrect value. I've never run into something like
this before and haven't had much luck finding anything on Google either. Has anyone seen something like this before or have an idea for how to change the math behind explorer? If that is even what needs to be changed.

As an extra note, kind of funny but even the transfer rate is buggered up, the laptop is transferring files from a mapped drive at a miraculous 522 MB/s, sure do wish my computer could move that fast.

The problem is in the purple rectangle in the attachment. (Did the same exact thing when I was uploading this picture).

I apologise for in advance for not being able to ask the question clearly, but if I could do THAT I could probably figure this out on my own.

Win7 is different in that the "Favorites" drop down menu has EVERYTHING on my entire computer, and I have to manually poke arond and figure out where the folder(s) I want and avoid accidentally clicking that which I do not.

And I NEVER want to access my C:\Windows folder when trying to find a Favorite that I saved some time in the past, because it would be more convenient to find the link in my favorites folder instead of poking around looking for it again online.

So instead of poking around in the morass of the internet, I'm poking around in the confused mess of my own hard drive.

When I try to "delete" this folders, I discover they aren't actually "shortcuts" to the computer's folders & files, the are the ACTUAL folders & files, and so after deleting a bunch of files off the desktop, I've come to the conclusion that this is serious and need to be fixed. Any help in this regard would be much appreciated and thanks in advance.

I have somehow made a disastrous mess of my favorites. I looked online for answers to this problem, and all I can find for a solution is cut and paste. This makes no sense to me for this particular issue because there's no way to "un-indent" a sub-folder and move it back in line with the primary folders.

I hope this is making sense to someone. I don't know how to explain it. Here's one example of the many I have screwed up: I have a "Daily reader" folder and a "Dog stuff" folder. The latter has a lot in it. Dog stuff is now mixed in with Daily reader. How do I make it a separate folder again?

A:Favorites: how to move sub-folders mixed with primary folders

Favorites in Internet Explorer are located in the "C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites" folder. You could open it, and create new folders or move items around as you like.

I have just built a new computer, using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, however, I've noticed when I open Windows explorer, 3 out of 4 times it will continuously search for drives when opening up explorer and not show any drives that are installed. I've tried reformatting, using different hard drives, but the problem persists no matter what I do. I've reinstalled Windows 7 with only a single drive plugged in, tried different SATA ports, but this problem keeps coming back. The only thing I can think of is that the Windows 7 install disk is corrupted and not installing properly.

I've also noticed that once it starts searching like this, the icons wont display in any folder, although the file names will. Likewise, when trying to sort files by date, type, etc, they will not sort.

When this happens, I can easily type in C:\ to get to the drive without problem to access the drive but above problems with icons not showing, sorting, etc still is a problem.

Has anyone had this problem? Know of a way to fix this? I'm not looking forward to having to reformat again as I don't have the time to sit through and reinstall everything again after.

This is weird. We've just deployed more than 1000 laptops in Canada, and they all have this image problem we didn't detect.

If we create a favorite under c:\documents and settings\all users\favorites, it won't show up under any profiles in Internet Explorer under its favorites. It's just not there. Just for fun, we made sure there are no sharing permissions setup, and we added full rights under the Everyone group. The shortcuts created there have full permissions under Everyone as well.

We checked Microsoft Support, and they said it won't work if files or folders are created there. This is not the case for us. We just putting .url files. Still, it won't show up under anybody's Favorites of Internet Explorer.

Any clues?

I'm posting in the Vista forum to ask if the Favorites folders are set up correctly for Vista.

I'm helping my neighbor who is running Internet Explorer 8 on a laptop with Vista, and I don't know if the problem is with Vista or IE8. Or just the operators! LOL

We can't do anything with folders in favorites. We keep getting messages that there are already folders with the same name, though sometimes it actually shows the name of a file, not the folder name.

Sometimes we can create them, but then they go away. Or we put the folder on the Favorites Bar and it doesn't show. (It does have contents.)

I looked in My Computer and looking down the hierarchy found two Desktops and three Favorites! His name/area is Jordan, and I found:

1. Desktop > Favorites
2. Desktop > Jordan > Favorites
3. Desktop > Jordan > Desktop > Favorites

Is this correct?

Out of frustration I tried to delete 2 and 3 but it won't let me as I need permission. Perhaps it was good that I didn't know how to override that! LOL

Thanks for any help you can give me. And please write to me like Iím a fourth grader,

If you had system protection turned on for your Windows drive, then you may be able to use Previous Versions in your C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites folder to see if you may have an older copy of them available to restore.

If not, then you might see if you may be able to use the free Recuva program on the same folder to hopefully be able to restore them.

It also randomly relocates files into unexpected folders requiring me to search everywhere to find them. I've made a list of them on paper, so I can always get them, but what's wrong here? I don't want to just do nothing if something is going bad. I have 84% hard drive space, I've done disc cleanup and defragment, but it persists. And sometimes long lost favorites folders randomly reappear out of the blue.
Any ideas?

I have a lot of Favorites folders in my IE7 browser, and I've tried to keep them in alphabetical order, but the program doesn't organize them that way on it's own, so I have to drag them up to the proper place, and drop them in. Am I missing something? It seems so obvious that the program ought to do this on it's own..

I know that IE gets knocked by a lot of tech savvy people who use other browsers, but I am pretty main stream and will be staying with the IE.

A:Solved: organize favorites folders in IE7

Just click the Favorites menu, move your mouse to any empty space in the Favorites list, right click to show the shortcut menu. Choose “Sort By Name”. You will see your Favorites items are in alphabetical order now.

Hello all,

Recently I got a brand new work computer with Windows 7 Enterprise, IE8 and Office 2007. I had been using XP, Office 2003 and IE7.

I'm a web developer, so I'm tech-savvy, but no expert on Windows specifically. (Trying to cover all the bases listed in the FAQ).

I've had the following problems. Perhaps some of them could have been in a separate thread, but I think they might all be related to the first point below. Plus I didn't want to litter the forums too much on my first visit.

First, I deleted the User Folder. I have to admit I'm not familiar with it, though I read about what it is. It just seemed useless for my purposes, and I didn't like all the "my pictures" and so forth cluttering up my organizational structure (yes, later I learned that I could hide some of these).

I immediately had trouble with a program that puts stuff into one's documents folder (Inform7, if you're that kind of geek), so I restored the User Folder.

Now, when I add a favorite to IE8, exactly eight (no more, no less) favorites folders are generated in my user folder. These can't be hidden as far as I can tell. They are identical, and if I delete one, I delete them all (as well as the favorites in IE of course). If I delete them all and start anew, I get a new eight folders as soon as I add a favorite to IE. I googled this and couldn't find a word about it.

I tried to create a shortcut to "Documents" on my desktop, and it would appear that instead of a sho... Read more

For the record, I tried the recommendation here (How do I stop Windows 7 from regenerating the Favorites and Searches folders?) in hopes of getting rid of the favorites folders and it did not work.

Hi everybody!

Please, I need your help. I have Win 7 Enterprise installed.
When I click into my IE8 Favorites, my HD folders are appearing there. I did some tests and if I try to delete them, my original HD files are deleted.
Maybe it happened when I tried do bring back my favorites from my backup files (ex Win XP), and I think that IE8 added all folders of my c: hard drive instead of only my favorites bookmarks.
Now, I can't even add new bookmarks.
Please my friends, is there anyway to fix that?
Sorry about english errors, I'm typing from Brazil.

A:IE8 shows Hard Drive Folders into Favorites

What I would do is copy from you favorites all of your files into a different folder then delete them off your favorites?? That should work..

You said that these files are XP files not Seven correct??

I too am having trouble deleting some imported bookmarks from Mozilla. I have been able to delete most of the individual favorites by accessing them in my user profile on C:\ as mentioned earlier.  However, I have great difficulty removing some of the
Folders whether or not they have favorites inside.  I am down to last several empty Favorites FOLDERS and they are refusing to be deleted!  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!
