SOLUTION: Press [F2] to Enter Setup does NOT Appear - Lenovo G470

Q: SOLUTION: Press [F2] to Enter Setup does NOT Appear - Lenovo G470

After spending an inordinate amount of time searching the internet about my problem, and then contacting Lenovo (who told me it was hardware and I needed to return all of the laptops I bought), I managed to magically find the solution to my problem. Since it wasn't documented elsewhere on the internet, I thought I'd create a post for it here. The problem I was having was that my Lenovo G470 laptop did not display Press F2 to Enter Setup during the boot process, and because of this, no amount of hammering the F2 button would allow access to the BIOS. I attempted all of the standard fixes, pulled the battery, held power down for 30 seconds, removed the HDD -- nothing would cause this to appear. Since it was happening on all 3 of the G470s we just purchased, I didn't believe it was hardware. I reached out to Lenovo Premium Support, and after about 3 minutes of discussion, "Paul" informed me that all three machines were defective and would have to be sent back in for repair, and it would take 4-6 weeks for repair and diagnosis. As I had been noodling around with the machines for a few days, ONE of the three ended up showing the bios options during the boot process. At that point, I had been hitting just about every single key on the keyboard during the boot process, so I couldn't identify what it was that I did that caused the options to appear. A little more troubleshooting and I figured it out: Lenovo G470 machines equipped with the EFI bios do NOT by default show the Press F2 to enter Setup. The only way to make this appear is to hold the "B" key on the keyboard during power-on. Once you've done that, the options to enter setup will appear and they will reappear at every boot (matter of fact, I've been unable to find a way to make them go away again, no matter what I hold during bootup). So, if you find yourself with a G470 and you can't enter the bios and F2 doesn't work -- hold the B key during boot. The options should appear and you should be able to gain entry into the BIOS.

Preferred Solution: SOLUTION: Press [F2] to Enter Setup does NOT Appear - Lenovo G470

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Remove all the external peripherals  (printers, scanners or any other USB device) connected to your computer.
Please remove the AC adapter and battery of your computer.
Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain the residual power.
Release the power button
Keep the battery out for atleast 2 - 3 hours.
Then insert the battery and charge it overnight with the system powered off.
Insert the battery in and connect the AC adaptor.
Then power on the computer and see if it works.

If the issue still persists, you can update the BIOS of the computer.
Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

I removed my Epox mobo to try an ABIT board (which I didn't like) and when I reinstalled the EPOX board it won't get past the , "Press F10 to enter RAID setup," screen. Pressing F10 doesn't do anything, though the keyboard works fine in the BIOS setup. Plus it takes forever to get to the RAID setup screen (2 minutes) when this computer use to boot up and was ready to go in 28 seconds. This mobo has a Post Port Debug LED and the first code that pops up when it stays stuck on "Detecting IDE drives" is 86. In the manual 86 stands for "Reserved." When it gets to the RAID setup screen, the code shown is 94. 94 is: (1) Enable L2 Cache (2) Program boot up speed (3) Chipset final initialization (4) Power management final initialization (5) Clear screen & display summary table (6) Program K6 write allocation (7) Program P6 class write combining. That all said and done, anybody have any ideas on what is happening to my computer?

Hello everyone My HITACHI hard disk has 2 NTFS partitions. Suddenly it couldn't boot up. So i removed the hard disk and connected it to another pc (as cable select) POST could see both disks, but the computer stopped with the following error: Warning: The boot devices have been changed. BBS boot priority will be affected. Please enter setup to check. Press F1 to continue. Del to enter setup. I entered set up and it could still see both disks. When I left set up having saved the changes it couldn't the disk (HITACHI) So during the new POST the previous error appeared again. I booted with UBCD4WIN and tried to recover my files with testdisk tool. I could see the 2 partitions (boot * & primary) and i tried to copy all the files to the healthy hd (not the HITACHI) I managed to copy only some of them and most of the folders I recovered were empty. I couldn't use the WRITE command to fix the partition table to the HITACHI hd (PC should restart again and I had the same problem/BBS boot priority .....) . Another problem is that the HITACHI disk has a broken pin (the first one at top right corner pin --- near the jumpers) and i don't know if I have to fix it first. OS: WinXP Pro 2002 Gr HD: HITACHI ATA/IDE , 250 GB HD model: HDT722525DLAT80 (Deskstar) Partition: 2 NTFS (180 (OS) & 70 Gbytes (Data)) I would appreciate if anyone could help me Thanks

I am a new Lenovo X1 Carbon user.  I have a new one here with Windows 10 preinstalled.  I've booted it up a few times and was able to press enter to get into the boot menu and press F11 to enter recovery for example. However, for some reason, now I do not have the option after I shutdown or restart.  The same Lenovo screen appears, but does not give me the Press Enter option and just boot right into the Windows 10 OS.  What happened?  Any suggestions?I want to do a recovery but unable to get into the menu now. Thanks,romatlo32

A:G470 - Bluetooth not working after installing Windows 10 on G470

Hi ashu2000 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking on the Lenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade ,  "not listed, it hasn?t been tested for Windows 10 upgrade and is not supported. " for the G570 .

Same reasons why on the support site , drivers for windows 10 is not available.

There are claims that it works ok but some have reported devices and apps not working after the upgrade.
You may check related threads here .

Would there be any yellow or black down arrow marks on the device manager .
If that is the case , then you may want to try checking the hardware ID to download specific driver directly from the manufacturer if the Windows 8.1 version driver would not help.
Example for Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Driver or use windows updates to install appropriate drivers

On device manager , you may also use built in drivers in Windows 10  doing upgrade drivers and, browse on this pc , let me pick option, and choose recommended ones on the list .

Hope this helps.

Regards

Hello,

When the computer starts up it says 'press DEL to run setup, press TAB to view POST'. Second half may be incorrect.

This was caused by my brother trying to reset the bios to its defaults. He was fiddling with it trying to make something work and wanted to undo his actions.

I am pretty sure that this can be fixed in the Boot Settings Configuration but I wanted confirmation before doing anything.

There is a settings called. Hit 'DEL' Message Display - This is set to enabled. Am I right in thinking I can disable this and the computer will run the post screen and boot?

There is another option called

AddON ROM Display Mode set to Force BIOS. I don't know what this is or if it is important.

I don't want to mess anything up or loose access to BIOS without the system booting so advice is much appreciated.

A:BIOs on startup - press DEL to run setup, press Tab to view post

Solved.

Dsiable DEL message, Disabled ForceBIOS and Disabled Full screen logo.

(I am only writing this because my parents refuse to listen to me and they want "Lenovo" to help me with this problem.)So I own a Lenovo G470 (Ideapad) that I bought in 2011. About 7 months ago, the laptop's hinges started to become lose and then since 4-5 months, bits and pieces of the laptop case keep falling apart/breaking around the hinges. It was a bit bothersome but nothing too serious. However, last week the laptop's screen became tilted (??) like one hinge/side is up and the other is down. It's almost diagonal. And the wire connecting to the laptop screen is exposed (i dont know how) maybe because the hinge's piece broke so the wire is exposed and it's almost on the verge of breaking too. (Ill be attaching the pics of the laptop below.)My warranty expired ages ago. But I dont mind paying for the repair. Is there a way if I contact a real Lenovo store nearby and ask them to "repair" my broken laptop. My parents would rather spend 80-140 dollars repairing this than buy me a new 700/800 dollar laptop.Honestly, if some of you wanna tell me that this laptop is beyond repair, believe me I know! My parents refuse to listen to me -_- So this is just to prove them Im right. FRONT:- https://imgur.com/4viSonH- https://imgur.com/D1pX3I0LEFT SIDE:- https://imgur.com/IKEdGI4- https://imgur.com/L6HmMPw- https://imgur.com/7qk0CMm- https://imgur.com/j5usW0nRIGHT SIDE:- https://imgur.com/wjONWoE- https://imgur.com/peerlHE- https://imgur.com/JU81ZrI- https://imgur.com/gvsWs5S- https... A:My laptop's falling apart.. Lenovo G470

If you think you have a flat tire do you keep on going until the tire disintegrates and you destroy the rim? That's what you did to your own laptop. You should've taken action as soon as you noticed something is happening with the hinge. There's not much you can do right now to fix it. Only thing I'd advise is to find a broken one online with the body intact (at least when it comes to the bottom part and hinges). e.g. with a smashed screen and make a transplant. Have it done by a professional if you can't do it on your own.

I encountered the BSOD with the problem about atikmpag.sys It seems like I made a wrong choice about deleting it, (solution from internet searching)  and now the Display Adapters doesn't work anymore as you can see in the pictures  after deleting the atikmpag.sys during safe mode, It somehow resolved the problem about the BSOD and my laptop are finally starting properly now the problem is about the resolution, it's not the same anymore, it's too low and somehow the screen is blurry, as you can see at the Graphics section, the maximum resolution I can only choose is 1024 x 768, which is supposed to be 1366 x 768 (HD) if i'm not mistaken,   I need your help on how to fix this I hope i can turn it back to normal., I don't have a CD installer (if it is supposed to have one) to re-install it, and about downloading from other sites I'm a little bit concerned about that so I haven't tried it yet.. and it seems like Lenovo has its own installer... Pls help ASAP

A:Lenovo G470 atikmpag.sys problem

hi jm9327,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The G470 with a dual GPU (Intel+AMD), uses a muxless driver (this is a custom driver that switches the discrete AMD Graphics to the Intel Graphics to save power). If you have installed a different driver, this may cause system instability (including BSOD).

If you're running on Windows 7, try the following::

1. Follow this guide on how to disable automatic driver installation.
2. Install these drivers in order (reboot if necessary)
(1st)  - Intel Onboard Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)
   (2nd)  - AMD Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)

When finished, check if the yellow exclamation marks are gone under Device Manager > Display Adapters and observe the screen resolution adjustment and BSOD occurrence.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

An hour ago I was on my computer playing World of Warcraft when my computer froze. I tried rebooting it, but it said in all caps, "DISK BOOT FAILURE, ENTER SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." So I tried entering my windows vista reinstallation CD, and it asked me to reinstall windows so I shut down the computer and took out the CD. Than I tried unplugging everything, replugging it, changing voltage, and changing it back. I tried changing booting priority to hard-drive as first, but than the boot disk failure was gone, and a blue screen popped up and restarted the computer real fast. I tried setting CD to boot priority one, and I tried reinstalling windows, but when it said "Click any key to boot from CD" and I pressed a key, it said that windows is collecting files from the CD, and the screen went black with a white cursor only showing. When I take out the CD and restart the computer, the boot disk failure thing comes up.

This message was after the Hp blue loading screen. I put back in the old PSU and it started right up and worked perfectly. I am thinking that the PSU isn't compatible With my computer. My computer is Model #: a6235. It is an HP. Ill mention i am trying to run a BFG 9800 GT OC. What PSU should I get that would fit into my computer. Thanks in advance for the help!.

A:Disk boot failure.Enter system disk then press Enter?

What model PSU did you get? Did you ensure that all of the plugs were plugged in (the little 4 prong one on the mobo that some PSU's use and the one to plug into the card)?

Hi Kohinoor, Welcome to SF,

Try these steps:
Make sure that your boot sequence is correctly set. Generally, you should set the boot sequence to boot to the floppy drive first, then the hard drive, and the CD-ROM drive last.
Check your floppy drive and CD-ROM drive for media and remove any that you find.
Verify that your drive is properly detected in the system BIOS.
Verify that your Jumper Settings are correct.
Power off the system, replace the IDE or SATA data cable and try to boot again.
For getting BSOD follow this article and post us the Dump file http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...d-problem.html

Hope this helps,
Captain

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
What you are asking for could likely be done (probably not easily) but would be at best a very fragile solution. Almost certainly there is a better way.

Happened to my neighbor and I frankly don't know what it is:
He was in MSWord, XP, and pressed the "Enter" key and held it for several seconds. He said a window popped up, he didn't read the message and just clicked on the "X" to close.

He then began typing and all the letters were upper case, even pressing on the shift key and typing a letter would not change the size. He then clicked on Shift for a few seconds and all the letters were lower case. He close out of MSWord, logged back on, no change. He kept pressing the Shift key for a couple of seconds and the upper/lower would change.

I looked at all the "Shortcut" keys available (I think) but could never find just pressing the "Shift".

Somehow, he got part of it working properly (it even got to the point that NO character would display if he typed it). Of course, I didn't attempt to try it on my machine and yesterday morning I went over and it now does just well. Apparently after being shut down and booting back up, it has returned to normal.

Anyone know what this is? As I said, not wanting to experiment here, but if someone already understands this, it would be nice to know.

Like I told him ... if it hurts doing that ... then don't do that!

Thanks

A:XP-MSWord Press Enter For Several Seconds

Since there are no replies, I finally found the problem.

If you press "Enter" for approximately 8 seconds, a window appears which has the capability of setting several options for accessibility. One of which happens to be reaction of pressing keys.

My friend, when he "X'd" out, inadvertently left a setting that made the keys react in a delay fashion.

To see what I mean ... do it.

Here is an odd one - I have a website and when I go to it I get a odd line all around the page and than a message on the screen that says "Press SPACEBAR or ENTER to activate and use this control" . Someone even reported that - a warning comes up that says that installing the software called ActiveX that is needed to open the page can be potentially harmful to my computer and a security risk.

The think is that only thing on this page is a Flash movie.

See for yourself: http://www.bray-lemaire.com/

Any ideas what's going on with this?? Could be an update from MS that is doing this??

A:IE issues?? Press SPACEBAR or ENTER to .....

Yes, it is due to a Microsoft update:

Read all about it here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912945

MS is pushing it through automatic updates, so Windows must have installed it automatically for you.

There's a compatibility fix that will revert back to the old behaviour but it won't be supported after July 2006, so you might as well get used to the new behaviour (or web developers use workarounds)...

When i start my computer, it says:

SMART Hard Disk Error
The Smart Hard Disk check has detected an imminent failure. To ensure not data loss, please backup the content immediately and run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.

Hard Disk 1 (301)

Help pls

A:Need to press enter everytimes when i start my laptop

It means what it says. Your hard disk is reporting failure. It could fail in a year, a month, a week, a day, or an hour. You want to first work on backing up anything you do not want to lose.

After your data is secure, then you will want to run the diagnostic tests. Try that "Hard Disk Test" first.
Then run chkdsk /r for an elevated command prompt. You will need to restart for the test to run.

Even if chkdsk comes up clean I would still download and run a diagnostic program from the hdd manufacturer.

If any or all of these test come up negative then it is time to replace the hard drive.

Note: the diagnostic test could be the thing that brings on the total failure. Backup data first!

Well, i have an old PC, which is a pre-build with some modifications to it. It's originally a MEDION of some description, but most of the hardware other than the motherboard has been swapped out.

the only number i can make out on the board is "MS-7015 Ver. 1". google seems to yield few results on this. As soon as i try to boot it, before any logos or anything seem to show, i get the Bootblocker screen, telling me as follows:

INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

not quite sure how to get past this, since i dont have any floppies around that would work, nor does it let me remove the floppy drive or change boot order. any ideas?

Running XP on an eMachines T6212, approximately 6 years old. I added 1 GB of Memory about 3 years ago.

My mother gave me an external hard drive she had been using with her iMac that she no longer needed. I brought it home and attached it to my computer via USB so I could format it. I was unable to "find it" in windows explorer and unplugged it after I shut down my computer.

The next day when I went to start my computer, I got the following Message:

Verifying DMI Pool Data............
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I inserted the System Recovery disk that came with my Machine in the CD-ROM Drive and pressed enter. The screen went black and the following Message appeared:

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I downloaded another Windows XP Boot CD and inserted that, same error message.

I restarted my computer and checked the BOOT Menu (F10):

Thats my only option on this menu

When I exited out it gave me the same "Insert System Disc..."

Duff, try going back into your BIOS setup screen and look for an option to "Load Default Settings" or something like that. Save and reboot. Keep the external hard drive disconnected for now.

If you still can't see your cd & hard drive listed in BIOS, try removing for a half hour or replacing the CMOS battery on your motherboard.
