Space bar key on laptop seems to press differently on the left side than the right.

Q: Space bar key on laptop seems to press differently on the left side than the right.

I notice when I push on the right side, the key pushes in perfectly meaning no tightness or whatever. But when I push on the left, I notice its a bit tougher and if you were to hear it, sounds like the key is touching against another key but its not. It just seems not as smooth. What can I do to make my left side push as smoothly as the right? Im thinking maybe it just needs some buttering up on the left side, maybe just a little dry. But how do you go about popping off a laptop space bar without breaking it. Is there any springs in voled.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It should just pop off; pry it off with a screwdriver. This article may help:

Do you need to make the most efficient use possible of vertical UI space on your system?s screen, but have horizontal space to spare? Now you can shift the toolbar icons and their awesome functionality to a slim sidebar in Firefox using the Vertical Toolbar extension. As you can see above the sidebar even picked up on our Personas Theme to help it blend in nicely with the rest of the browser. You can access the options for the new toolbar by right clicking within the toolbar area.

A:Reclaim Vertical UI Space by Adding a Toolbar to the Left/Right Side

A vertical tool bar makes sense with the modern wide screen monitors.
With Opera & lots of tabs open i have the tab bar on the left with the text showing its much easier finding a tab if you have more than 20+ tabs open.
Just tried it out with Firefox b11 it seems more like a replacement for Opera's side panel but with less options.
Seems easier just to use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl B , Ctrl H & Ctrl J for bookmarks , history & downloads

The left hinge on my laptop has come apart and it's affecting the screen display. I have had my laptop for only 2/3 years and had no problems but it's frustrating it's happening now because I'm in the middle of exams. I have searched this thread and people have had similar problems. After a couple of seconds the screen starts turning white and I have to physically push down the left side to get any response. Is there any way this can be resolved?

Hard to explain but here goes:

When I have a sentence that I want to move to the middle of the page, I place the curser to the left of the word and try to push it right by hitting the space bar and nothing happens.

This is only when the word is all the way to the left of the page.

Is there some type of formatting that would allow this to be free so that I can push words forward??

Hey everyone! Thanks for reading and for any help that you give me! This problem has been occuring for almost a year and it seems like nothing works. I have chatted with 2 hp specialists which they have been helpful but the problem still remains. The one hp guy actually saw it happening when he took over my laptop. He did updates and checked the touchscreen settings. After he did all of that, the laptop restarted and the dots went away but the thing is, once I restart or turn it off and back on, they go away for a little while. Sometimes a week, a day or two, or even a few hours. So the hp guy thought he had fixed the problem but the dots are back! I literally can't take it anymore! I don't have money for a new laptop. This laptop is not even a year old yet and it cost me over $650. I paid that much for a custom made laptop and this is what I get? My old two year old laptop that I got from Walmart for $250 on Black Friday doesn't even do this. It's just slow. More about the dots: The range of how many dots appear on the screen differs. Sometimes 2-3 or sometimes like 10 of them. Also it differs on how bad it is. Sometimes they don't move or keep clicking the same spot and other times they go crazy clicking the screen and moving back and forth trying to scroll. It is literally like a ghost is standing there usuing all five fingers and repeaditly clicking on the screen and dragging his hand back and forth. So it's pretty hard for me to be doing stuff on... KazemLovHp Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about USB port problems and wanted to help.  Unfortunately, the image you posted is now showing in the forums, so I can't see what you saw. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can perform to diagnose the USB problem: HP PCs - Troubleshooting USB connections (Windows 10, 8) Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your laptop. However, for MS-supplied drivers that aren't working well, you could consider using HP Win8.1 drivers -- although there's no guarantee that those drivers will work.  Here's the link to the HP Product drivers and software page for Win8  for your PC:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-g6-1200-notebook-pc-series/5145704/model...If that page does not show Win8.1 when you open it, then click Change and select Windows 8 using the pulldown. You might have to install the drivers using compatibility mode: http://www.windows10forums.com/articles/compatibility-mode.7/ I would suggest you try the Driver-Chipset drivers as those generally affect the USB ports on the motherboard.Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor... Has anyone else seen this problem.   I've had two laptops and nearly 14 months (4 months after warranty expiration), the left hinge plastic bezel has cracked.  I suspect this is a universal problem as I've met with other laptop owners who have experienced the same thing at nearly the same time....just after warranty expiration.
I know that in nearly all manufacturers of laptops that this is occurring and oddly nearly all are the left hinge bezel/plastic.  HP customers, I believe, have launched a class action lawsuit.

Is there a class action lawsuit against Dell for this same problem?  It sounds like all manufacturers are getting their laptop hinge bezels from the same place. This is a problem that Dell needs to address...immediately.

A:Dell XPS 9560 Screen - left side cooler and right side warmer

If "recently" is less than 21 days from shipment and from Dell directly, the best option is to contact customer support and have the system replaced.
If it's more than 21 days from shipment, the warranty will cover the display replacement, which is the only solution -- though if the system is new enough, you're better off having it replaced than repaired.

Model:  HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC 15".   Laptop used minimally and still in beautiful shape other than these noted issues:  Left hinge is broken away from plastic casing (see pic) and Right hinge is broken away from lid plastic (see pic).   From what I'm reading, it seems the plastic base, chassis, and possibly lid base and hinge need replaced.  Please let me know what HP is offering as far as replacement parts and repair.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with HP notebooks.  I've purchased a total of three HP notebook/laptops over the past four years so I'm very concerned about these issues and why HP has allowed it to continue for so long and across so many different models.  It seems to me the plastic used in making these parts does not have the tensile strength required in notebook/laptop use.  I would think this issue would've been corrected years ago and not have continued.  Please advise.  I do love all my HP laptops other than these issues.   Thank you.

But there is a tiny slide switch button on the left hand side for a wireless connection that will go left or right. It is stuck and wont go right or left. So i pushed it a little to hard and the button popped off. How can i fix this... Should i unscrew the bottom of the laptop and try to fix the switch? This seems to be happening more and more, I am using my PC (with Windows 8 Pro) as an HTPC and its connected via HDMI to a plasma TV so the PC is always on. Sometimes, when I go to use the pc I turn the TV on and then move the mouse around to turn the display on and I see the attached image, it looks as though the screen has shifted to the right and wrapped around to the other side.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? Hello,

I have a strange problem. I recently had to move my graphics card from one slot to another on my motherboard. When I did so, my desktop appeared to be shifted over to the left and that the left most part of the desktop would not display. I tried to use my TV controls to shift the display horizontally and when I did I encountered two issues- 1) the display would not adjust flush with the right side of the screen (would not reach it leaving a slim black bar) and 2) it looked like someone sliced off the left most part of my desktop (the part missing was a width so that about half the start/ windows button was missing).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling CCC (latest update/drivers) for my ATI Raedon HD 46xx series card with no luck (Doing a registry sweep between to be thorough). I also have updated everything else windows with no luck.

My desktop is fine @50hz by the way, but 60hz is problematic.

And here is the whammy!

I took a screenshot of my desktop to send to a friend so he could see the left part cut off by a black bar and when I pasted it, the whole screen is there in the pic!!

So I assume this means that windows thinks it is displaying the screen but it is not making it to my TV?

I would have given up on this, however, it was working before so I know that it is possible.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated as I am starting to pull my hair out over here! :-)
Thanks in advance!

Daikon

A:Desktop shifted left and cutoff on left side Win7 64bit Raedon HD 46xx

Hum I had a similar thing happen with my monitor I just could not get it to the edges and someone advised me to use the scaling in the CCC and it worked so give it go.

Personally I got so fed up with the ATi stuff and went NVidia best thing I ever did.

A:White noise on left speakers/left side of headphone

Sounds like either a driver malfunction or more likely a failing sound card. Most of the stuff below (Windows & Programs) wouldn't likely be causing problems. I'd be willing to bet it's a hardware problem (due to it only being one side).

Figure Out What's FailingIf you're using a secondary sound card
*** i.e. you have a second built in one on your motherboard, enable that.
If you still hear the sound on a different card, then it's something within Windows and not a problem w/ hardware.
If you don't hear the sound, then it's something w/ drivers or your hardware.
If you don't have an extra sound card, see if you can find/buy one Replace DriversDownload & Install a Program like Guru's Driver Sweeper
Uninstall your sound drivers w/ Driver Sweeper
Reboot
Download and install the latest drivers for your sound card.
RebootIf the sound is still there and you couldn't test a secondary card you're likely dealing with either a hardware failure (most likely with sound only happening in one speaker) or something in Windows failing.

Repair WindowsIf you want to try to fix windows, you can do the following:
Run an elevated Command Prompt and run this command:
sfc /scannow
Peform a system restore
Perform a repair install.Test to see if a program is causing the problemType msconfig into start menu search and hit Enter
Go to the startup tab and disable everything.
Restart computer
Do you still hear the sound?
Yes -- Not a program
No -- A program is likely causing the problem. If no... Read more

Hi, I have a CTL 17" LCD monitor. This morning I turned on my pc and found that the left side of my monitor is darker than the right side. Any idea as to what the problem could possibly be?

A:My monitor is brighter on the right side than on the left side

I don't know which orientation the tubes have, but if it is vertical, the tubes on the left may be on their way out. Most LCD monitors unless specifically advertised otherwise (ie - LED) use fluorescent tubes for the backlight.

So, I'd say it is on its way out and there is nothing you can do to fix it short of just replacing it. The left side may brighten to normal after being on several minutes/hours. Did you notice if that happened the longer you had it on?

Hi,

I am a student and need to install many types of software over and over again.
If I understand it correctly, windows makes backups of all DLL-files to prevent the DLL-hell scenario from happening.
But as I need to install/remove many programs I end up with a lot of garbage (I asume) in my winsxs folder.

Right now I have a winsxs folder of 11.3 gb, an application folder of 7.5gb on my 120gb ssd (windows) drive and about 117gb off apps (and games) on my storage drive.

I formatted my laptop this summer but I am concerned that my drive will get flooded with storage data faster then I can remove apps from my C-drive.

What I would like to know is:
- In what case does winsxs backup all my DLL-files
- How can I prevent windows from doing that? (protable apps?)
- How can I prevent the DLL-hell scenario while preventing sxs growth?

Yesterday after installing a whole lot of updates my pop-up screen (e.g. when you click the left mouse button on your desktop) no go the left instead of the right from the cursors point of view. See image for example.

Who can help me with this slightly annoying problem?

Thanks in advance,
Hugo.

A:Pop-ups going to the left side?

Here you go. The 2nd tutorial was written for Vista, but works in Windows 7. It's also a lot easier than the 1st.

How to Set Windows 7 Menus to Open to the Left or Right Side
How to Change the Menu to Appear to the Left or Right of a Click in Vista - easier

By the way, if there's not enough room for the pop-up to open on the set side, it will still open on the other side. So, when that happens, it doesn't mean that the setting isn't working.

I have a partition set at 237 GB. I have 161 GB of free space left and want to move more out of the partition. But it would not let me move more out. Is this a bug or something?

A:Cannot shrink any more space... When I have lots of space left.

You can only shrink something as far as you can shrink it, you know? Try defragging and then attempting a shrink again?

It's likely because X amount of data is being taken up, and some of it is here, some of it is there, and the space between probably can't be used. Don't take my word for it right off the bat, but that makes the most sense to me.

This question was probably asked a million times already, but I can't seem to find a topic that has a concrete answer.

The built in microphone is fine, but whenever I try to use the front jack to record with my studio mic, it only records on the left side. It'll record from both sides in mono, but not in stereo, and I prefer stereo. When I put the noise reduction on in audio manager, it can be heard on both sides when I record in stereo, but it doesn't sound as good.

I've been using wavepad since it's a very simple program. On my other computer, which uses windows xp, it works fine in both stereo and mono and I don't even need to adjust anything in the settings.

Help,

I just purchased a new puter with windows 7. However the left side of the screen is cut off and I can't get to the windows there. How do i change the size or resolution of the home page..?

Rich

A:Left side of screen is cut off

First make sure the display resolution is set to the correct values for that particular monitor (the monitor has a "native" resolution and you need to set the display resolution to match that). Changing the resolution doesn't just change it for the "home page" (whatever that is?), it changes it for everything.

After setting the resolution to the correct values, any further adjutments to picture size that are needed can be made with the monitor's own height and width adjustment controls (usually via an on-screen menu system in conjuction with the monitor's buttons).

With Windows 8 , I have the following problem.

The sound on my laptop seems to come only from the left side.
BUT once I plugin my head phones and unplug them, then the sound it good for both sides???

I am so confused... any thoughts?

A:Sound only left side but.....

You have a bad/dirty headphone jack. Plug in the headset plug, in and out several times to see if that corrects it. There are extra contacts in the jack to route the sound and one of the contacts is "dirty". Plugging in and out several times, in many cases, will fix it.

If not, it will have to be serviced.

I used to do guitar amp repair, and saw similar jack problems in guitar amps frequently,.

Edit:
Restarted my computer and received a message from trying to access the volume control.
"There is a problem with your hardware sounds. To install mixers devices, go to Control Panel, clikc Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware."

On sound, video and game controller in device manager there is a yellow caution sign with the exclamation sign in the center, next to Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver. Device status: A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

My integrated speakers on my lcd monitor only plays audio on the left side. Is not the monitor that doesn’t work because, I have connected it to another computer and both speakers played audio. So, it must a software problem or the audio driver, or something else. I tried fixing the problem by doing everything that I could.

Logged in to my account went to control panel>sound…>sounds and audio devises. Enable, place volume icon in the taskbar, and under the audio tap on sound play in default device highlighted realtek HD audio rear output. walah! I hear audio but only on the left side.

I did everything that I could do as, so far by adjusting system volume and balancing the mixers.

Two days ago I booted up my PC and found out that the volume icon was missing, so, I went to Start>All Programs>Accessories&... Read more

Hello! Part 1: After the latest drivers update (Wacom develops driver for Lenovo Active Pen 2), the long press of the top side button leads to activation of screenshot event (kind of Snip and Sketch). It interrupts any drawing activity. For example, Sketchable application has a color picking assigned to this button, which is interrupted by screenshot triggering. Note: There are 2 side buttons on the Active Pen 2, and the top side button leads to the issue. It's not about usual top button at the end of the pen, and it's not about long tap of the pen itself (that "issues" were found in a huge amounts in the internet). I found that 1. Working driver version: Lenovo Pen Service (Wacom provider) 7.5.1.21, 2. not working: 7.6.1.29.Now, community, I ask you how and where to report the driver issue? Part 2: I reported the issue to Wacom support. Wacom supports stopped support me when they realized that I have Lenovo Active Pen 2, so you can see "Lenovo" there, not Wacom, that's why it's not Wacom's problem. Not really clear situation, because drivers has been downloaded from Wacom site and developed by Wacom. Ok, then I went to Lenovo support. I managed to communicate to USA Lenovo support, and they redirected me to my local Lenovo representatives (not USA) because of the laptop warranty location. How the laptop warranty is linked to Wacom driver bug? After that destructive finger pointing, I came here. Perhaps, could you suggest... Read more

Hi all I have a new OMEN 15-ax003na laptop. As far as I can tell there are two main fans in the unit - one on the right and one on the left when using the machine. (Left GPU, Right CPU?). There seems to be an issue with the fan control for the left-hand fan. The right-hand fan spins up and down as one would expect, stopping completely when the cpu is at low or nominal load. The left-hand fan spins constantly, even when Windows shows that the workload is 0 and the machine is idle. I have updated all drivers and flashed the BIOS to F.09 Rev.A, resetting to defaults, and then ensuring "fan always on" is disabled. I have also tried reverting to BIOS F.08 and F.05 with no success. This is a major nuisance, and I think it is some kind of fault, as the right hand (CPU?) fan is controlled as expected. I have seen posts about this for older laptops which mention things like the omen control panel and other drivers, but these doesn't seem to apply to this laptop. Can anyone shed any light on this? My next steps are going to be trying out some live boot O/S images, to verifify if it's a H/W or S/W issue. Thanks in advance Uri
