I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ah, my friend.it sounds not to be a video card problem, but more of a codec issue. make sure your codecs are up to date and if that doesn't work, post your system specs.

Ok, I originally had a Geforce3 ti200 64MB card in my computer and was playing World of Warcraft. It ran fine on the lowest settings, but I decided i wanted at least a little more FPS. So I went out and bought a Geforce FX 5500 256MB card. WELL! The new card actually runs worse with the game than the older card. What gives here? I am pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff.. So any help would be great. Don't wanna return the card till I know there is no way I can get it to run better. I have downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers.\

Thank you

Alright, I recently decided my old computer needed an upgrade from my onboard UniChrome Pro video chip. I got the 5500 from a friend who was replacing it, since it would suit my needs. I brought it home and tried to install it, deactivating my onboard, getting the card in place, and starting my computer back up. My screen was a bit messed up at start up, I expected it to be until I got the drivers installed. However, when Windows starts up my screen loses it's connection and goes black. Any ideas for help?

The same problem as what I posted in this thread.

Basically, KotOR is not working on my new, better, computer. I believe it's a driver problem, but don't know how to find out. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB, but the game recommends GeForce4 Ti or better (128 MB VRAM). So that's my other assumption as to why it doesn't work.

I can play a few minutes into the game, but then it makes a loud noise and my computer restarts. I thought it was a program called Smart Doctor that came on a CD with my video card, because I uninstalled it and the game let me get a little further into it, but when I went back to playing today, it restarted on me within 1 minute. My file only has 7 minutes in it, and I'm very disappointed.

Can someone help?

A:Solved: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB video card with KotOR

The 6600GT is a much better and newer card then the the GeForce4 line of cards.

Your problem sounds like a heat or power issue.

What are your CPU, mainboard, and video temps?

What is the brand and the wattage of the power supply? Did you remember to plug in the auxilary power connector into the video card?

If your motherboard didn't come with an temp and voltage monitoring software you can try using Speedfan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

it would also help if you posted the complete specs of the computer including the operating system.

I have a problem. I just bought this video card and i tried running it on Counter Strike Source and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, and it is saying i need a mininum of Directx 7.0 But i have installed with Directx 9.0. And updated the driver too. It works perfect on Final Fantasy XI. Any thoughts? My specs on my computer are:
Intel Celeron D 2.66ghz
512mb of ram

It work fine with my ATI 9200SE Xtasy, and with my regular motherboard too.
I just don't know why it won't work on HL 2 DM and CS Source.

PCI-e or AGP? If PCI-e, get the 6800GS. It should handle every game on at least medium settings fast, mostly high.

Via a custom install per the relative Tutorial I've just moved my 2007 Dell Dimension 9200 Vista Home Premium 32bit set-up to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

My WPI is now 5.6 - which is the Graphics and Gaming element, with all other elements 5.9.

I assume it may be time to upgrade my Graphics, and if that is so I am not sure what would be appropriate for my system and needs.

I would like to stay with nVidia, am not interested in 3D, and would ultimately like to have a 3 screen set up although am content with a single screen at the moment. Presumably I could do the switching installation myself with a little commonsense and care.

I have enjoyed gaming for decades (Rpg's...Dead Space, Mass Effect, Deus Ex, Skyrim, Tomb Raider etc.,) and am presently contemplating Flight Simulator X.

I am thinking of upping my present Ram from 4 to 8G if I can but am checking this in the Performance and Maintenance Forum.

A:Time to upgrade Single 256mb nVidia GeForce 7900GS (2VDI 1xS-video) ?

Something like the GTX650 would be perfect but your dated processor will bottleneck gaming performance with any higher end graphics card.

It would be wiser to invest in a new modern system if you're willing to do some hardcore gaming.

Hi people.
i recently just got a new motherboard, videocard, and 1 gig of ram which is listed in my signature. my problem is my games should run well on this computer because my brother has the same things as me. Im thinking the problem is my video card because he doesnt have the same one as me. i try to run a game called battlefield 2142 on medium graphics and it should run very well like it does on his computer, i turned it down to low and play and it runs fast but not to smooth and its still a little choppy in some places. I really dont understand what the problem could be because im pretty sure i have the latest drivers for it. the thing I may not be so sure on is drivers for my motherboard or processor, should that have a big impact on gameplay?
Thanks for the time anything will help me at the moment.

Hi all,

I am having a baffling issue regarding the install of an Nivdia Geforce GT710 video card into an HP
H8-1217c desktop running windows 10. Here is the problem as described below:

The card installs into the motherboard with no problem. When the desktop boots up, I get the startup splash screen for several seconds then the screen goes blank. The computer does not crash and shut down, but becomes unresponsive until I shut it down. If I take the card out, the desktop runs with no problems.

I've researched the card for several weeks and it appears to be a good match for the desktop I'm trying to install
it in, so I am at a loss to explain why this is happening. The desktop in question is being used for processing home videos and the video card supports 2 displays which is what I am looking for.

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated.

The specs of the desktop in question are below:

A:Problem Installing Nvidia GeForce GT710 Video Card

You appear to have a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1217c Desktop PC.
Its Pegatron motherboard has a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot for adding a graphic card, and it has a 300W power supply.
I'm very familiar with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 graphic card, and your HP desktop should be able to handle it just fine.

After you uninstall the driver for the Intel graphic device, then shut down(not restart) that desktop, then install the graphic card, then start up that desktop, it should load fine.
You need to be patient and let it go through its startup process.
Once it does, then you can install the current driver (388.13) for the graphic card.

What do you mean when you say that desktop becomes unresponsive until you shut it down?
What exactly is it doing after you press the power-on button?

I've read a few of these topics before on this website, but do to the clutter, nothing helped.

About:
I have a BFG GeForce 6200 OC 256mb pci Graphics Card.
5.44.A2.05.01 Video Bios
91.47 ForceWare Version
My comp is a Presario SR1103WM

Everything else works fine, but when it comes to playing videos in (i believe) any format, the computer will slow way down (the computer is so slow I can't really keep track of cpu usage - I'm guessing 90-100%), and when I press ctrl-alt-del, then hit cancel, the problem disappears . However, youtube videos work just fine (wtf?).

Okay, so before I'm told to uninstall, use drivercleaner.net, and reinstall, I'd like to try any other possible solutions. I'm uneasy to obtain drivercleaner.net's software because you have to pay for it. I have a pet peeve when it comes to providing personal (financial) information online, so right now, I'm not diggin' it. Is there another driver cleaner program I can use that I can download for free, and that works just as good? Is using that driver cleaner the best way to reinstall?

Lastly, should I downgrade to this ForceWare version? Or is there a better option?

I want to play many other games which are older, like 2003 thru 2007 ( Black Hawk Down, Battlefield Vietnam, etc, etc).
My question is, if I am planning on only playing slightly older games, do I need to bother disabling on-board video, and installing the EVGA, or will the difference be marginal at best?

I just got my NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GT.

Steps:
1) Uninstalled ATI Raedon x300 XPRESS Series (came with the computer)
2) Turned off the computer and inserted the Nvidia Geforce card in (it's a XFX btw) like the manual said
3) Started it back up and installed the drivers
4) Went to 'Setup' (when startin the PC) and changed Video Mode to PCI-E and disabled all BIOs except the sound

I go to start a game to test it out and I still get the same FPS. I wouldn't expect to get the same FPS as I did with the integrated graphics so I'm stuck and confused to why it's (exactly) the same FPS.

I have checked my display adapters and I only see "NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GT" and it seems to recognize it's installed correctly.

Comp. Specs:
AMD Athlon
Windows XP
512MB

I'm probably going to build a new computer from scratch with this card LATER on but right now I want to use this with this computer.

Trying to upgrade the video performance on my stock CPU (details here http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02481314 ).  Games already loaded - Overwatch, and War Thunder.  Both games will run, but the lag is pretty bad. Did on-line research and I think the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti card should work - runs just on the card slot, rated for 300W PSU (card details here - https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-750Ti-Graphics-02G-P4-3753-KR/dp/B00IDG3PRI?th=1 and here http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-750-ti/specifications). But, my motherboard hasn't had a BIOS update since purchase (BIOS Revision 6.04 09/07/10) and I'm not even sure if HP has a BIOS update for this computer.  I'm worried that either the MOB or the Windows 10 OS won't pick up the card, leaving me with a dark screen following the install.  Some additional investigation suggests that the card's PCI 3.0 format may cause issues. Already familiar with the new card install process - uninstall AMD drivers... power down CPU... remove old card - install new, install new drivers after successful boot. Bottom line - with a seven year old stock CPU should I even be trying to upgrade the video capability?

Hello all,

I recently tried to play the game Champions Online for the PC and found out that my video card was preventing me from doing so. My Current video card is Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430. I don't want to play Hard core games for my PC, just this one mainly.

The Reqs. for the game are(Minimum):
OS:Windows XP SP2/ Windows Vista/Windows 7
CPU:2.5GHz Single Core or 1.8GHz Dual Core
Memory:1GB RAM
Video:NVIDIA GeForce 7600 / ATI Radeon X700 or HD / Intel GMA 4
Sound: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Soundcard
DirectX:Version 9.0c or Higher
HDD:5GB Free Disk Space
Network:Broadband Required
Disc:6X DVD-ROM

My Computer is a Compaq cq5110F PC and was wondering what kind of video card would be compatible for it. I don't plan on becoming a hard core gamer, I just want to play this game. I also play a game known as Anarchy online, and with a bigger video card, i'll have to replace my Power supply, it's 300W right now.

I have a fairly limited knowledge on the inside of computers, but any other information you need i'll try my best to give to you. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have also attached a DxDiag, to help further.

A:Upgrading my video card from Nvidia GeForce 6150SE

if you were to follow the game's minimum requirements i would recommend at least a 400w PSU, but it depends on the power supply itself as they are all different. if the card needs auxiliary power then it will most likely tax the PSU too much if you have a lot of other components, but you could always try. the radeon X700 isn't a very demanding card so i wouldn't be surprised if it worked fine with the unit you have. on the other hand, 400-500w power supplies are cheap nowadays and it can only benefit your system if you choose to invest in one, but it's your call. just because you don't need high end stuff doesn't mean a beefier PSU is a bad idea

hmmm did the 32 mb card work properly?
did you uninstall the 32 mb card drivers?
try having your minitor cable linked straight onto the motherboard monitor connector if you have one and i think the reason the picture would not boot from bios is becouse some drivers are still installed.
did you uninstall the fx 5500 drivers before putting the 32 mb card back in.

check if the graphics card uses too utch power and check if the monitor is connected onto the graphics card properly.

the problem you are facing could be due to motherboard related problems or you may have a faulty graphics card or you simply might be installing the graphics card wrong (read the instruction booklet carefully)

Hey guys a friend of mine just purchased a Geforce 5500 256mb version, and hes getting no more than 13 fps on doom 3, EVEN at the absolute lowest settigns, with EVERYTHING turned off, even with the latest drivers and patch. Every site I see suggest that he should be running at 8x6, high settings, and at 30-40 fps. hes running an AMD Athlon XP 2700+, 512mb ram, Xp home.

A:Geforce 5500 256mb

let's hear detailed specs on that card, including the actual clock speeds and memory bus width. you can pick up a cheap fx5500 with 256mb of ram these days, but to turn a profit the companies will use lower quality parts that run at lower clock speeds, and most use a relativelwy narrow 64bit memory bus.

Hey guys, how accurate is this:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=438&card2=439

They rate the 5200 card higher , then the 5500 card. Now obvious in terms of memory, the geforce 5500 wins, 256MB. But i was just curious on what you guys thought.

I just purchased an NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500 128mb DDR AGP graphic card for my pc, to replace an ATI radeon card that had over heating issues. Everything works fine except when I try to play any of the BF1942 games. When I try to play the game, it loads but then reboots the PC when the game starts. It only does this when I try to play BF1942, and only happens with this video card. I don't know what else to try. I have ran a driver cleaner to erase previous video drivers, have downloaded NVIDIA's latest drivers from their website. I have not updated my BIOS as NVIDIA's tech support suggested, I'm not sure how, where to go get the update, and not realy sure that's the problem.

got the latest BF patches, and it works with the other video card.

I have an AMD XP 2100+ processor
ECS K7S5A motherboard
2-512mb DDR sticks of RAM

any help would be appreciated.

First thing: Emulators and other types of illegal software are not allowed to be discussed on these forums. Just a heads-up on that, since it's against the rules of this site.

Next, that card is pretty weak by today's standards. Even in a high-end system, it would not give any type of decent gaming performance. The PCI connection type is slow and not capable of delivering the data transfer speeds required for gaming.

Also, your motherboard will probably not have a new-type of card connector. AGP is the next fastest card typ... Read more

Hey everyone, this is my first post, just hoping somebody could help me. I've just purchased a Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS video card for my Foxconn P4M9007MB Series motherboard. I've inserted the graphics card into the graphics card slot and closed the case.

I'm not sure whether I had to plug anything from or onto the graphics card since it didn't come with any cables or wires or anything. I then inserted the VGA monitor cable into the graphics card monitor cable slot and turned the tower/monitor on. The tower worked but there was no beep and the monitor said 'no signal' and the light on the monitor turned to orange instead of the usual blue.

The new graphics card I am using is the first graphics card to be placed into the graphics card slot on my motherboard, as I think the current graphics card is integrated on my motherboard or something.

Also, I read about the PSU fan have too low a wattage? I'm not sure how to find out the wattage of my PSU fan.

So all help explaining how to install the graphics card/get rid of the no signal message on my monitor would help tremendously.

Thank you in advance.

By the way, I'm using Windows Vista.

Hi, new I'm here and have worked on my computers for many years with success. i have a problem with a new Nvidia MX4000 video card with an Asus P5P800-MX/CHANNEL-UAYGZ motherboard. All works well except there's no video signal until the Windows XP boots up and loads the driver. This means I can't see the Bios setup or dual boot screen on startup. It works fine with the built in video on the motherboard but I'd like to use the dedicated video card. Has anyone had this problem and suggestions to work around it.
Thanks, Don Black.

Hi Pedroxam, Welcome to Seven Forums.

First thing I noticed that you have P4 and 7 TB of hard disk? Anyways, let's move on.

Do not keep installing drivers for the card without removing old drivers. First uninstall old drivers completely. To remove the drivers completely do this.

1. Get "Driver Sweeper".
2. Uninstall the old drivers.
3. Reboot in Safe mode.
4. Run Driver Sweeper and clean out all the bits of old driver (in SAFE MODE only).
5. Reboot the PC
6. Install the latest drivers now.
7. Reboot

Keep us posted.

Hi, This is my first post here on techspot.com I've searched the whole forum regarding the video card I am posting about. Here's the story. I had a radeon 9700 128MB card which I had for about 6 years. Anyway Futureshop in Canada and a labour day sale. I found the BFG Geforce FX 5500 OC 256MB AGP for about 50$ with a mail in rebate. So I got home uninstalled my drivers for my old card made sure everything was whiped out. I took out the card slap the new one in, installed the drivers and updated them on http://www.bfgtech.com. Anyway I tried counterstrike: source and Warcraft: Frozen Throne only be to be disappointed. it only seems it made my game less smooth and heavier. Lower fps on counterstrike running at what i use to run with my other card. anyway I'm not sure exactly what it is. I've read reviews or other forums posts by some guys who bench marked the card and got awesome results. I'm wondering if it could be my hardware that could be messing this up or something else. Perhaps other drivers they use or what not?

My Rig is at:
[email protected]
768MB DDR RAM
ASUS P4S533-E
Maxtor 200GB 8mb cache 7200RPM
Running the BFG Geforce FX 5500 256MB AGP 8X/4X O/C

Isn't it suppose to make my game alot better in terms of FPS, smoothness and visually look outstanding? Anyway I hope someone here can help me out, show me a few pointers or give me some advice on what to do. Thanks alot! Cheers Guys & Gals

A:Downgraded Instead of Upgraded. Help with Geforce FX 5500 AGP 256MB O/C (BFG)

Even though the 5500 has more ram, I don't think you would see much of a performance increase, if any at all over a 9700. Their clock speeds are about the same.

See what some other say.

My system details are as follows:
Windows Xp Pro
Service Pack 2
Amd Athlon Processor 1.33ghz
512mb of ram

i bought my 5200 graphics card at christmas, i had problems straight away! after installin it correctly inthe agp slot i found it wuld not work to its full potential.
i had orginally used the drivers that came with my card, but after tried to install the latest drivers.this made no difference, i was better off using my 32mb graphics card on the mother board!
i then tried installing the beta version of drivers, i then got excited because it started working properly as it should, but then would randomly restart the pc, when the graphics card was fully used by a game etc. i could not even run black and white without restarting! which needs basic system requirements!
i eventually took it out my machine & now having to use my crap graphics card. please can someone direct me to help, so that i can use my graphics card for my games.
thanks!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

What psu do you have? If your psu doesn`t give out enough power, then you will have problems with your new videocard.

Look HERE at this handy psu wattage calculator.

Bear in mind that if your psu is a generic no name brand, then it will stuggle to put out anywhere near it`s rated wattage. Even a good quality psu will only achieve around 70% efficiency.

I`m not saying that this is the only reason you are having problems, but it`s not a bad place to start.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me some info about these two cards... I currently use the Fx 5700 le (agp) I do know the "LE" stands for light edition so it is not the best on performance. I have had this card for awhile and am able to run games such as Lock ON, Need for speed most wanted IL-2 Sturmovic, MS flight sim.. For the most part performance is ok. I bought a new card on E-bay today and was hoping to find out if I did the right thing. It is a FX 6200 256 mb AGP. It was new in the box, and I only paid $20 plus $7 for shipping so I figured I would try it. Does anyone know anything about this card???

I know the 6200 is one of the best PCI cards you can get, so yes, I'm sure you got a good deal. Actually a very good deal, in my opinion.

I have this 7-year old PC with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Debian 8.5, and Linux Mint Debian Edition 2. All three OSs are 64-bit versions. The motherboard is an Intel DQ965GF and currently has an EVGA GT 610 video card installed.

The strange thing that is happening is that all three OSs load without problems when the EVGA GT 610 is installed. But if I install an EVGA GT 730 (with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM), then only Ubuntu loads fine. The other two OSs stall right after GRUB (i.e. there is a blinking cursor a few seconds after the GRUB menu).

Ubuntu has the proprietary NVIDIA drivers installed, while the other two OSs have nouveau.

Am I to conclude that the reason that the two OSs don't properly boot up is because they lack the NVIDIA proprietary drivers? If so, why do they boot up when the EVGA GT 610 video card is installed, then??

They're probably using an older/different proprietary driver than the version in the repositories.
Using the GTA 610, which driver do Debian and LMDE say they're using?
