SATA DVD not showing / Something wrong here?

Q: SATA DVD not showing / Something wrong here?

Hi,

Firstly, I changed all my settings in my bios to AHCI and my Jmicron controller 363 to AHCI + IDE. Now, my DVD drive won't show up in my device manager and there are multiple controllers under IDE ATA/ATAPI that weren't there before. Any ideas on how I can get the DVD drive to work under SATA and fix the multiple channels under the IDE ATA controllers?

Thanks. The pic is below.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't know if it's been this way the entire time since I officially upgraded from build 7201 to the released version. or if it just started but my CPU Meter in sidebar is only showing that I have 2814MB of ram.. lol

and when I right click properties on my Computer and enter the System tab where you check WEI score and specs. it says 4.0GB of ram (2.75GB Usable)...

What is that about? I'm confused atm.. maybe a stick went bad. but it's 2x2GB.. it's not like half of a stick would be working. lol and yes I'm on a 64 bit OS

any suggestions?

I got them, but they wouldn't install, but then I ran them in vista mode, however they didn't fix the issue. Anyone have anything else I can try?

Bought a LG Blu-ray internal sata rewriter. Installed it and windows 7 found it first time. So far so good.
Put windows into sleep mode and when I woke it up the sata drive was missing.
The drive was not only missing, but the tray failed to manually open and the activity light did not illuminate.
Drive totally dead. Check all power and sata cables all ok.
Done a full reboot and drive came back ok

This only happens when the machine is put into sleep mode. Sata drivers all up to date and all cables 100%.
Turn the machine fully off or restart and everything works ok each time. Use sleep mode and it fails when you bring the m/c to life.

Has anyone had a similar problem and how can it be put right? I use ( well I did ) the sleep mode quite a lot and this has become a bit of a pain.

Thanks

Hello all,

After quite a bit of searching, I'd be immensely grateful for any advice on the following external HD problem.

After a bump to my Western Digital Elements 3TB external drive (from above - it wasn't dropped), it is no longer recognised in Explorer. I've tried the usual Disk Management trick and it's not showing there either.

The symptom is that once the adapter lead is plugged into the back of the HD, it makes the usual quiet upward whirring sound as if it's about to spin up, but does nothing after that (there's usually a small "rumbling" noise following drive spin-up where they're reading the data, but there's none on this drive). The power light then blinks indefinitely with no sign of life in Explorer/Disk Management.

After looking at the costly option of data recovery (295 UK price), I started seeing a few tech sites that suggest removing the SATA drive from it's enclosure and either using a SATA Reading Dock, or going one step further and finding a replacement Western Digital PCB chipboard (ensuring the batch code/serial on the WD drive matches the PCB being used) and swapping this over to retrieve the data.

I'm not interested in fixing up my drive for continuous use (to be honest, I no longer trust the WD drive even though the impact was my fault), but would very much like to retrieve the data. My entire music collection (including my former CD collection) is on there, and besides the fact that... Read more

A:External HD not showing. Will a SATA dock help?

I'm guessing you forgot to make that all important backup of your data?

The dock will only help IF the damage is to the enclosure, either the USB port or the converter electronics, this is a possibility. Swapping the circuit board will ONLY help IF the drive's electronics are damaged, this is unlikely. If the damage is to the platters inside the drive then neither one of those will help, this is also very possible since the drive was physically bumped.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and in Xp my overclock showed correctly. As 333X10.5=3500 but even though my bios settings are still the same and all c1e is turned off, windows 7 is showing that i have 266x10.5=2800. cpu-z shows this aswell, including asus utility (every program i've tried has said the same)

Any ideas as to why windows 7 shows this? and is windows 7 really underclocking my system? or is this just windows 7 showing inaccurately?

A:Windows 7 showing wrong CPU speed.

Don't forget to turn off both C1E halt state and also "speed step", unless the bios settings were messed with that should work. But in most cases and if you aren't overclocking those settings can save power and are very useful.

Make sure you aren't using one of those lame Windows overclock utilities because they will mess with your bios settings big time.

So it seems it still there but for some reason it cannot see it.

A:DVD burning gone wrong now disc showing nothing

Burning multiple sessions to a DVD-R disk is most likely the problem. (Ideally, you should be using an external hard drive to backup) You should use DVD-RW, rewritable, disks and just burn everything in one session, close the disk; then move onto next DVD-RW, burn everything, close disk. continue this until you are back to the original disk in a rotation, then erase the disk, and continue on.
As for why you cannot see data on the DVD-R disk, it's most likely because of the multiple sessions. On a DVD-R or +R disk you should burn once, and be done with it. You might be able to recover data with a 3rd party program, but since it's optical media my hopes are not high. Be sure to have the "show hidden files & folders" option ticked on so maybe, if the files are hidden on the DVD-R disk you might be able to see them.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I hope this helps you in the future.

Warning: the following descriptions involve time travel - you may or may not go cross-eyed. This gets complicated, so follow closely.

Windows (7, 64bit, build 7600) Explorer is showing a -6 hour difference in time from my actual file date. This is NOT simply the time difference between my computer (in Central time zone) and the server (on Eastern time). Explorer is ignoring the server's time stamp and subtracting exactly 6 hours from the time of the what the server should say. I know this because I'm also looking at the exact same folder and files using XP and the time stamps are exactly as they should be. I modified a file locally (on W7) and copied it up to the server. The time stamp local is 9:36a. The time stamp on the server should be 10:36a, but instead it says 4:36a. So, I copied a file from the server back to here and it reports locally 6 hours later (10:38a) than what is on the server (4:38a). Looking at the exact same files through explorer on XP shows that the time should have been 10:38a.

If it wasn't for time showing correctly on XP, I'd assume it was a problem at the server, but there seems to be something in either the display of time, or in the way it sends the file's time-stamp.

And now I'm testing it on another ftp server, which I think has their time set to UTC (my 10:00a is their 4:00p). Using XP, I create a brand new file locally, and transmit it to this server. It initially appears with the same timestamp as the original file (10:16a). I t... Read more

Hi all,

It's been a while I was unsuccesfully trying to install Windows 7 Home 32b using a USB stick.

Configuration:

HP Compaq dc7800 Small Form Factor
Intel Core Duo E6550 2.33GHz
2048 MB DDR2/667MHz
System BIOS: 786F1 v01.04

Story:

The former copy of Windows7 got corrupted by a virus
I tried to reinstall it completely (not upgrading), got stuck at "Windows is loading files"
I installed Ubuntu, used it for a couple of weeks
I would rather need Windows, tried but failed again
I ran DBAN wipe on both HDDs

After this, I could get to Win7 installer's partition selecting section, but none of the HDDs are available for installation, it's asking me to check BIOS settings in order to access them.
Given the following Storage Options in the BIOS:

Removable Media Boot: Enable
Legacy Diskette Write: Enable
SATA Emulation: IDE

In this case, highlighting any of the disks at partition select, I get this warning when I click Next:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

The other SATA option is RAID and if I choose this, the 250GB disk seems to be available for the install, but I get the error message:

This is a new drive that has never been used nor has it ever been formated. I am lost as to what I need to do to get the drive to a point that I can access and format it so I can impliment it into the system.

Windows installed smoothly on the SSD and all is working fine with the exception of my internet which after a call to my service provider it was determined that my router was to old to properly work with the new system and a new router is enroute at this point.

Can someone walk me through the correct procedure to get this drive online? Thanks in advance

In DIsk Management you'll see it on the drive map and may need to initialize it. Rightclick on the panel at left to see if Initialize Disk is available - if so select it.

If it's already listed in Disk Mgmt, you may need to only add a drive letter: Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

A:new sata hard drive showing as scsi in win 7 help

With some hard disk controllers it is normal for it to show up as a SCSI disk - particularly if the disk controller is running in AHCI mode, which is preferrable since it allows features such as NCQ. One thing you may want to check is: locate the drive itself under "Disk Drives" in device manager and go into the properties. Select the "Policies" tab and view what is set. For better performance you will want it set to "Better Performance" with both of the boxes checked. Though if you lose power you may run into minor file corruption issues - I personally have not had issues with this. If you disable those check-boxes performance can decrease significantly.

Hi guys
My laptop is not displaying my Sara drive in the my computer screen. I have had this issue before with an IDE drive, a strange issue where my external drive only appears in the list when I unplug it and then when I plug it in, it disappears.

With this drive, I get the message the device can perform faster in a USB 2 port (something my prehistoric laptop doesn't have,) then I get the message that the device is ready to use.

If I go into device manager it does appear as a USB Mass Storage Device and I've tried updating driver, rollback, uninstall and everything else I can think which all seem to work ok until I go into my computer and it isn't there.

Any ideas? Thanks

Also, I ran low on disk space some time ago and turned off System Restore.
Here's my Regional Options:

So I have a new computer and everything was running fine. But the next day I open my "uninstall a program" and it's saying outlandish sizes of things. I have the game Oblivion and it's not saying there is a size while as Network Magic is 32.6 GB which is HUGELY wrong for it's only a couple of MB. I am not that good with computers so googling help got me confused with registrey key and stuff because I dont know how to access this. So, I restarted computer and everything but it's still wrong. Please help I don't know what to do or if this is dangerous

A:Uninstall a program showing wrong size

Is there anything wrong with performance of Win7 or the programs themselves?

Run SFC -SCANNOW Command, report back what it finds.

If it finds no OS corruption and you have no performance issues then I would not worry about it.

We work for a website, educationworld.com

and one of our editors in the room can't access the website since a couple of days ago.

her hosts file doesnt look out of the ordinary, doesnt list the wrong ip or anything..

but when she types in educationworld.com the lower left of her IE window is trying to load the ip: 209.247.79.163 (old one) and she gets "page cannot be display". It should be trying to load 69.43.199.47. Same thing when she pings educationworld.com, she gets the 209 ip. I had her flush dns, didnt work. she also cleared her cache.

I had her type in http://69.43.199.47 into IE and our home page does come up, eventually, but it takes about 10 minutes!

We cant figure out what the problem could be.

I appreciate any advice!!! I've looked everywhere

Thank you!

Please, why are you entering a URL or IP in the "lower left?" Try using the IE Addressbar instead.

Are you talking about the old Addressbar in the Taskbar? This was disabled awhile back by an MS Update due to legal issues (it is used for more than IE and that was the legal issue). I found out after installing SP3 and the Taskbar, Addressbar option disappeared altogether.

If you look at the screenshot of the Toolbars list from Taskbar, Properties w/SP3, you see that the Addressbar is no longer listed.

If you insist on having the Taskbar's Addressbar, there is a rumor that there is a fix. BUT, is it legal?

In short, my control panel (Start>Computer) is showing I have an A drive, when I don't...

And not showing my CD/DVD Burner, when I do.

Any suggestions where to start looking? Tried uninstalling any information under Device Manager>Disk drives.. stilll no go.

Removed the hardware, confirmed connections, restarted without CD/DVD, rebooted reconnected hardware. Power works to device, tray opens, does not show icon in control panel and does not play media CD's.

As for the A drive I've no clue.

Thanks.

This isn't stricktly "installation and setup" I don't think, but I can't find anywhere else it fits either, so hopefully it is OK here.

I have made a couple of system images using W7's own native system image creator, but they automatically identify themselves with the wrong time and date. My OS clock is correct and my BIOS clock is correct AFAIK (i.e. going into the pre-boot settings where you can shuffle up the boot order and checking it in there) but my images are created showing that one made at 14.00 was made at 3.40am if using the disc and searching for a system image to restore from, and if I go into the backup and restore centre within W7 it tells me the most recent system image was made at 12.40!

It also puts them all in a folder with today's date, I had a heart attack thinking it had overwritten my previous backup despite saying that would not happen on an external hard drive (but would on a network) but when I go into the startup repair booting from the disc it does indeed offer me both options, albeit with strange times on them. Is that normal and is there a way I can force it to place each image in a separate folder without that complicating the restore process?

Oh, as an aside the "create a system repair disc" thing doesn't work for me, nor did it ever work when I had Vista. I can write the disc, it simply doesn't boot. Not too annoying because the installation DVD has the same tools on it, but just another part of the process that is n... Read more

A:dxdiag showing the wrong graphics card

hmm, Hi again. could you fill up your complete system specs from user cp?. not sure this will work. but you could try: remove the graphics driver, then reinstall it. steps: remove graphics driver -> reboot computer -> install latest version of graphics driver -> reboot computer again.
and check
