Hotmail live problem with contacts.

Q: Hotmail live problem with contacts.

Hi

In the old hotmail classic version, you use to be able to mark a contact as a "favorite", so the contacts you use the most only show up.

Now with hotmail live ALL your contacts show up. You are unable to mark a contact as a favorite.

Has anyone found a workable solution to this stupid problem?

Preferred Solution: Hotmail live problem with contacts.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use to be able to just have the contacts I email frequently listed when I brought up my new email window in Hotmail. Now, since they have "improved" it to Hotmail Live (?); when I bring up a new email window, all contacts are listed no matter how remote they may be to me. I can't find a way to only have the heavy email pals listed when I bring up for a new message. What am I missing (besides my mind).

A:Live Hotmail & sorting contacts

I think there is no such feature.

If you type the first letter of an address all those addresses that start with that letter pop up and you can select one. So a possible workaround would be to prefix your heavy email pals with an unusual letter (q, x, z) and then those would be available when you type that letter. Not nearly as convenient as the old frequent contacts list, but maybe better than nothing.

Hi,

I have been trying to import my Outlook 2007 contacts to my Hotmail account.

I have exported a copy of my contacts from MS Outlook 2007 to a .csv file. But when in Hotmail I am unable to import the .csv file to my Hotmail contacts list.

I have followed the online steps for doing this and still nothing.

Is Outlook 2007 compatible with Windows Live Hotmail?

And does anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this problem?

Thanks,

watty.

This thread was previously closed due to lack of answers, however I found a solution.

When importing a csv file into Hotmail, the email address field is expected as "E-mail Address" however in the csv file created by Windows Live Mail the email address field is "Email Address".

Note the missing hyphen. This means that the email address is not transferred over to Hotmail.

The solution is to edit the csv file using Notepad - simply add the hyphen to the top line of the csv file, save the file and import it into Hotmail.

If you have the same problem with other fields, a useful test to see what field names Hotmail expects is to export a contact from Hotmail and then inspect the csv file which is created using Notepad.

Windows Live Mail is Hotmail, with a new look. So I am confused as to what you are trying to do.
It sounds like you created a whole new name for Windows Live Mail... you didn't need to do that.

If you just open Windows Live Mail and logon as the HotMail name you will see all of the contacts.

Still battling with Windows Live Mail. I have imported my address book contacts about a dozen times now from XP and want them on my local PC when I am offline.

I do not want to be forced by MSN to sign into Live Mail ID to see information that belongs to me, that I want accessible on my hard drive at all times.

Is there any way that I can prevent Windows stealing my contacts? Or can I import them somehow to 'my documents'? Or can anyone suggest an address book/data programme that works alongside Windows Live Mail?

I really don't understand why MSN are so determined to help themselves to users data and then force them to access their own information through the pointless LIveID operating system, that is simply another completely unneccessary layer of control/signing in/data harvesting etc.

Any advice greatfully received - Thanks

I think I agreed to an update of live mail a couple of nights ago. The live mail client looks COMPLETELY different, probably good (who knows), but first thing was that when I typed in a name I use frequently to send messages to (which usually just brings up the address) nothing happened, so I pressed the "to" field, which usually brings up my list of contacts where I can search and found that there are no contacts; then I tried opening contacts (from bottom left pick options) and it simply will not open.

My contacts are still there - I can see them from my hotmail account on the web. How do I get them back into my new, improved version of the mail client!??

Thanks

I have around 950 contacts in my old Nokia C3. To transfer them onto my Lumia 820, I exported them as CSV and uploaded on Google contacts. Everything works fine but when I try to sync the account with my phone, I get all the contacts but half of them are without phone numbers, I see just the Google profile.

So, I called Nokia and they asked me to upload the contacts on Live. But when am doing so, I face the same issue, half of them dont show the numbers. This is confusing that I see all contacts on Google but not on outlook.

What I have tried:

1. Exporting google contacts as outlook csv
2. Delteiting my phonebook and re syncing Google account.

I have lost access to my phonebook and desperately need the fix.

Thanks!

Hello all:

I am having problems importing a customer's address book from Outlook Express (XP) to Windows Live Mail (7). The addresses are being (mostly) split into each individual entry: some are just physical addresses, some email addresses, some phone numbers.

I searched on your forum here and did not find the answer to the problem (indeed, I didn't see anyone else having it!) so I thought I'd ask to see if you've heard of anything like this. I would appreciate greatly any response and I apologize if this is something that has already been posted.

Thanks,
Jacob

Edit: I've found that not only are some emails being split from their contact information, but there are 3 contact entries for every phone or phone/email contact. Help?

Hi Guys,

I'm at my wits end! I bought a new wireless modem from Tata Indicom, and it simply will not process any messages on Hotmail. I create replies, then log-on, and it marks the Hotmail accounts with a red cross (I have two Hotmail accounts). I have no trouble with my personal account, but it cannot process Hotmail.

I have some error messages for you:
"TCP/IP reported Error 735. The required address was rejected by the server."
"Error 732: Your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols."
"Error 633: The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly."

I am not using the device for anything but the Internet.

I have been through the options, but cannot find anything.

And then, on the last attempt,
"Error 691: Usercode/Password error."

The wireless modem is on Port Com4, according the "Phones and Modems", and on Port Com5 according to "System/Device Manager".

Can anyone help? I am in Goa, India.

Regards, Smiffy.

Dear All,

I have been using windows live mail since quite a few time now.
While I logged in to my msn messenger today it asked me to update as there was a new version available.
I did that and alongwith messenger it updated and installed other programs as well.
It updated my WLM and gave it a new look. I NOW HAVE VERSION 2009 (BUILD 14.0.8064.0206)
I was happy to see the inbuilt calender which was not there earlier.
But what it did with my contacts was shoking.
I have 1197 contacts in my Windows Live Mail Contacts.
It is showing all 1197 names but only showing emails of about a 100 contacts. Rest all email addresses are lost, only their names are there.
THIS IS REALLY SHOCKING. I HAVE LOST ALL MY EMAIL ADDRESSES IN CONTACTS. THIS IS A BIG LOSS. PLEASE HELP ME.

Please tell me how this problem can be resolved and why did this happen?

I am eagerly awating your reply.

PLEASE HELP ME.

A:Problem on updating Windows Live Mail / LOST EMAIL ADDRESSES OF CONTACTS

Hi All,

This same problem happened to me, plus I have some additional info.

Just like the earlier poster, I am a longtime user of Windows Live Mail. I was prompted to update and did so, and liked a number of improvements.

However, the email addresses of my contacts had been removed, along with all info other than just the contact names. The number of contact names is unchanged, and as far as I can tell, all the same names are there. The few email addresses that do remain (about 20 out of 500) were all used recently, AFTER the first launch of the previous WLM version on this computer, which is new since February. My guess is that these email addresses were automatically added per the preference setting "add email addresses to contacts after third reply."

Here is the added info: when I tried to import my contacts again from a CSV file, it didn't work. A window came up saying that the program was updating my contacts, and it took a REMARKABLY long time, but after it finished, I was left with the same scenario. My CSV file is still good, but WLM will not work with it.

I'm out of ideas. Please help.

Thanks to all in advance.

-Robert K.

Hello, I'm new here.

I have recently changed my windows live id and my contacts all appear offline.
I have followed the instructions when i changed my id which told me to sign out and wait.
It says it will take 48 hours to fix the contacts offline. But after 3 days only 2 contacts that are online and all others are offline although i know they are actually online. Now, after 2 weeks only 3 contacts that i can see online but the rest are all offline.

Then, i discovered weird stuffs happening.

1) I can see my contact's posts on my messenger live 2009 but in my contact list i can only see their email and nothing else and they dint came online.

2) I tried chatting with 1 of my working contacts and he replied to me that he can see our conversation windows but he can't find my new id on his contact list only my old id that appears offline.

3) I tried deleting my contacts and adding them back, 1 of my contact which appears offline on my contact list, e-mailed me saying that he had added my new id but weird enough i din't receive any invitations. So, i deleted his id on my messenger and added him back AGAIN and guess what, he din't receive any invitations too. The next day a conversation window poped up and its him but theres a bar stating that "This contact is not on your contact list. Add the contact to your contact list" sort of.

Sorry for my not-so-good english.

I have upgraded my Computer from Vista and Windows live mail 2011 to Windows 7 and Windows live mail 2012.

Live Mail 2011 used as Contacts just the Vista Contacts.
Live Mail 2012 is having it's own Contacts which are not compatible with Windows 7 Contacts.

I found a way to import Windows 7 Contacts as Live Mail 2012 Contacts but no way to export it as .contact file again (export can be done as CSV or VCF file only).

Since I still want to synchronize my Windows 7 contacts with an old Vista Computer the Import is not a solution for me.

Is there a way to persuade Live Mail to use the Windows Contacts again
and where are these new Live Mail Contacts saved?

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts seems not to be used.

Hi Walter, welcome to Seven Forums.

Your best plan is to access your mail account directly, the use .csv format to export / import them into WLM 2012.

I've almost always used Win Live Mail (me @ msn.com), but was advised this week to switch to Hotmail after my e-mail was hijacked & bogus msgs went to a lot of my contacts (& a few that are not my contacts).

I'm not "comfortable" with Hotmail. WLM is just easier for me to work with, maybe because it seems more like old Outlook Express. Anyway, I'm having trouble navigating within Hotmail. Things seem to change in subtle ways (& sometimes, not so subtle) from session to session or within a session. I'm sure I've clicked the wrong place, but . . .

In Hotmail (Outlook) all my folders are listed on the left. Yesterday(?), my contacts (& I think some other stuff) were listed at the bottom of that list. Maybe I somehow collapsed the contact list & then saw contacts. Today I can't find contacts anywhere. Where are they?

Hello

Wondering if anyone could give me some advice please? I received an email from someone who also has a hotmail account. I saved their details by simply clicking the 'save to contact' button. Since I did that, all their further emails between us now appeared under a nickname. Unfortunately this nickname wasn't particularly flattering and I'm in the embarrassing position of being accused of storing this person under this term I am absolutely positive that I have not done this and wonder whether this person (unknowingly) has a nickname attached to their account that would show when another hotmail account holder accepts them as a trusted contact? I have tried to ask this on Hotmail without success,

If anyone knows how nicknames on Hotmail work I would be very grateful for any advice,

Thank you

A:HOTMAIL Contacts Spammed

Hi,

Do you use your Windows Live email account via web browser only? If yes, then all you should do is to change the account password to new, strong one. Update also your vulnerable software - run Secunia vulnerability check here and fix its findings.

Hi, today i saw that my hotmail account sent out a spam email to all my contacts. I went to the sent folder and saw that all the contacts i had saved got the email, nobody else got it. Also, my vacationing reply option was turned on even though i never touched it. I looked around the internet and it looks like my email has been hijacked. I have AVG anti-virus and it cleaned my computer of any problems last week, so whatever it is, AVG didn't recognize it.Here is my hijackthis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 4:59:22 PM, on 04/01/2010Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgchsvx.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgrsx.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgcsrvx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBU... Hotmail users, could you help me out here? Once upon a time, I had a short list of "favourites" on the compose message page, and then Hotmail changed that and put my entire list of contacts in a drop-down menu (by email address, not by name -- awkward, but I managed). Now that's gone as well.

I spent a good half hour last night, trying to build a favourites list ... read through all the help topics, and found nothing to tell me how to do it. I open up the "Favourites" and it tells me there's nothing in there; I try to "edit favourites", but I can't type in addresses, and there's nothing in the contact list that I can *add* to the favourites list. I opened up a contact at random, and there is all the info: the name, quickname and email address ... and a little box -- already ticked -- that says "mark this contact as a favourite" ... but my favourites list is still empty.

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this problem? Clues how to fix it?

Help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Importing contacts into hotmail from excel

Hi Boomer123454

Try creating at least one Contact in Hotmail, then Export the Hotmail Contact list to your Desktop as a .csv file.
Contacts > Options > Export Contacts

Open the .csv file, then you can see the template Hotmail uses and either paste the information from your Excel sheet to the .csv file or change the order and Headers of your Excel file to match the Hotmail .csv file.
Import the .csv file into Hotmail:
Contacts > Options > Import Contacts
Select the Microsoft Outlook icon.

In Step 2, it should default to the Microsoft Outlook (using csv) option. If not, select that option.
For Step 3, click the Browse button and browse to, and select, the .csv file you created, or added to, on your Desktop.
Click the Import Contacts button that appears in the Hotmail window.
The Import should begin.
Hotmail will tell you if it is successful or not.
Let us know if that works for you or not.

i have a hotmail account and thats where all my contacts are and i recently got outlook express and i just wanted to know how to export my hotmail contacts and import them into outlook express. please help

A:how to put hotmail contacts into outlook express

I have been all over that site and it looks like the only movement for contacts is INTO Hotmail but not out of Hotmail.

It looks like you have to do it manually, unless someone has a third party program that would do that for you.
