Preferred Solution: Recover deleted profile

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

You might be more specific on how and where it got deleted. Like, did you send it to the recyle bin, delete it in an online area, or some document. That would help anyone to better assist you.

if he deleted the profile, with out deleting the files its all still there

go to my computer
doulbe click the C ( local disk that the os is installed on)
hit the documents and settings, in here will be all the users profiles
so if you see her log on thats her profile, you can go into and save data needed

you might have to change the folder view to see everything

open explorer, go to tools>folder options>view> change the radio button to show hidden files, and uncheck the hide protected os files and hide extentions.

if the data is here there, you will need a application to recover the data, google getback ntfs

Thanks

A:How to recover an overwritten profile

System Restore does not monitor your My Documents folder so it won't restore any files or folders that were overwritten. I would try Recuva portable. Run it off a USB flash drive or external hard drive and try to recover the files you need. Save all recovered files to an External drive

I have no idea how I got my system in this condition. I have been attempting to enable the Guest account on but when I do turn it on, I can't logon as Guest. I have looked at ?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList? and I don't see the Guest account at all (SID missing). I don't know what the value should be nor how I can recover it. When I try to logon as Guest the system comes back with: Unable to Login due to "User Profile Service" failure. "The User Profile Service service failed the login. User Profile cannot be loaded." It seems that there should be a way to recover these predefined or standard logins. I don't want to do a system restoral as I have my system the way I want it (except for this problem with Guest) that I want to avoid any possibility of mistakes. Any idea how I can fix this situation with Guest?

A:Recover Guest Profile

In vista By default the guest account is not granted permission for login.

By the way, The sid will only be created after the guest account successfully logged in for the first time.

I belive you have to do something in your local security policy.

Type secpol.msc in search bar and hit enter. In the local security policy window expand local policies >user right assessment. In the right click paane find deny logon locally double click that and remove guest account from that policy.

Find allow login locally double click on that and add guest in that policy. Restart your computer and try to login

Hello....I'm hoping that you can help me recover my log-on. Initially, after improper Windows shut-down due to power failures) I got error messages that Windows (7) was logging me in temporarily. But those error messages stopped, and now after repeated rebooting, Windows simply logs me in under what I believe is a generic administrator profile. Under the Users folder in the C drive, there are two folders (let's say Diana and a new one, Diana1. ) In the registry, the Profile List is pointing to Diana1. I can see my old documents, pictures, etc., under the User folder Diana, but they are not loading with my profile. There is no .bak on the end of the Registry entry, which most of the fix-it advice seems to assume.
If I simply delete the wrong user (the one to which the Registry is pointing) from the Users folder, will Windows find the correct user profile? I miss my stuff!
Thanks so much for any help,

I have Windows 2000 running on my PC with Office 2000 installed. And I have created two profiles for myself on this same computer.

In the process of copying my old profile into my new profile, I have done the opposite. Copied the new profile (which had nothing) into the old profile(which most of my working data files). In doing so I have literally replaced all my documents and files in the my documents folder(old) with nothing (new).

Is there any way I can go about retriving my old file from the date files in the computer?

Hi:

I am using Windows 7. Upon starting up, I received the error: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.".

Following the instructions in this article, Method 3:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215

I deleted the User Profile using Computer/Properties/Change settings/System Properties/Advanced...

It fixed the login problem but completely evaporated the user and all of the documents. I can't find them anywhere.

Can someone confirm if this is so? This would be totally insane. Microsoft should at least warn you that following these instructions completely deletes all documents. I mean, they warn you about the potential risks of modifying the registry but they fail to mention that a "side effect" is that all your stuff is evaporated?!

Thanks for your help.

Hello and thank you,

Here is the problem. My sister owns an HP Pavilion a775c which seems to have undergone motherboard failure. She had her XP user profile encrypted a while back, and has some irreplaceable files contained within that user profile.

The computer went out when it went into sleep mode the other day. I was at her apartment and decided to check something out online, only to find that the computer would not respond at all. I tried to power it down (its power light was lit up) and reset it only to find that it would not reboot after it was powered down. When I would press the power button it would not do anything at all. It would not do the false start (power on then power off right away). I did not even show any signs of being connected to a PSU. I concluded that it was either the PSU or the motherboard, so I replaced to PSU with another that I had around (which I know works). Even then there was no response with the system. This has me at the conclusion that it is the motherboard rather than the PSU.

I would be able to help her replace the motherboard, CPU, and whatever else is needed to get the system running again, but the XP install would have the wrong drivers making it impossible to boot. The question is as follows; is there a way to recover the data in her profile, or decrypt it so that it could be accessed from an alternate windows install on another HDD?
As I said at the top, thanks for any help offered.

A:Can I recover an encrypted user profile after a motherboard failure

If after you replace the motherboard XP won't boot, you can sometimes get it to work by doing a repair install of the operating system.

Hi-

I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

Thanks

A:Recover deleted files

It's possible the filles may still be there. First try to undelete in your recycle bin. If that's a no go, there are a few commercial recovery programs out there. The only way you can possibily undelete files that have already been deleted in the recycle bin is using such a program provided the files have not been overwritten. If you write something to the same disk it doesn't necessarily mean your deleted files have been overwritten.
If a file recovery program doesn't work, they're gone forever.

Hello

Are you working in a Microsoft exchange environment? ie at work!
If not I do not think you can get it back.

If you are then do the following:

Highlight the deleted items folder. Click Tools>recover deleted items. Alist of emails should appear. Find your email and highlight it. Right click and choose restore or click the restore button. It should return to your deleted items folder.

Good luck.

Oye. Where to start. I had a problem on my comptuer, so I had to reinstall XP. All is well. I have "roaming profiles" set up on a "server" [really is just my profile on a XP Pro machine w/ a big hard drive]. They are on their own partition. I set my new install machine profile point to the place where it should be. I wanted to use it right away and not wait for it to copy the 12gb of My Documents to my computer at the moment, so I moved them to a different folder. I logged on, and did what I wanted to do. Then I moved My Documents back to the profile folder on the server. Logged off of my computer and logged back on. My Documents is GONE! Apparently, since when I logged on there wasn't a My Documents, and when I logged off, it was there, Windows thought it would get rid of it...and it did. I tried several data recovery programs, and only one was able to recover some of my files, but about 90% of them are useless. A document is just a bunch of ¿??Ya94â~9å??A ect ect. Pictures are unreadable, music is corrupt. I'm very organized, and have everything set up into folders and sub-folders upon sub-folders ect. I'd like to not have to find out where everything goes, but if all else fails, I guess I could. Its about 12gb, and if there is any way of getting it back, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. I called a guy who does this for a living, $500 flat rate, and if successsful $100/gb. It's not worth that much, but it has a LOT of value ... Read more

How and what did you delete? I don't know of a stand alone power management program. You can access your power options in the control panel, in XP anyways not positive with Vista. Whether Lenovo has one you'll have to read your owner's manual. Have you emptied the trash bin? If it's still in there, restore it back

I have inadvertantly deleted a personal file (containing data and pictures files) from my laptop.I tried to use recovery programs to recover at least the pictures. I have recovered some of the files containing the pictures, but cannot open these pictures . When trying to open each picture (of the recovered ones) I've got the following note:"Paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file, ot its format is not currently supported"I checked the System Restore and found that a restore point is available to the date prior the delete. Can System Restore recover the deleted file?Note: The file was installed on the Desktop (before being deleted).I am using Windows XP ProThanks for your assitance.

A:Recover A Deleted File

The restore point may work for you, or it may not. Persoanlly, that's a tough call, because you risk erasing the deleted version where you can't retrieve it, and you risk the possibility that the restore point won't work, and at the same time, erased any possible chance of you recovering what was accidentally deleted. If possible, the best way you is to hook the hard drive in question to another computer as the slave. And then use the other computer to get the data off, because you stand the risk of that sector of the hard drive to be over-written with data if you add/install a program to the computer. It's not always true.. but that risk still exists. If you don't have access to another computer then you'll want to use a few FREE ones that are out there. Look in the Commercial FREEWare forum here on this site. Sorry, I forget the link right off hand. But whatever you do, don't keep deleting and (or) modifying the hard drive if you want your data back. By all means, just download what you need, and do as less installing/deleting on that computer as possible. And then again, if you feel that the Restore Point will bring back the data, then all I can say is go for it. But remember to weigh out your odds, no matter which route you take.a. connect the hard drive to another computer, and do it that way (safest known method)b. install a program(s) on the computer in question, and run it from there (risk/a workable method)c. Use the Windows Restore Point (ris... Read more

Do a Google search for "File Recovery" and you will find hundreds (actually millions) of links to software that will do what you want. Bear in mind, though, a hard disk that has been in constant use (reading and writing) will have over-written many of the files (or parts of the files) and those will not be recoverable.

Hi All,
I accidentally lost all the pictures from my desktop and I am unable to recover them. This is what happened;
1. Created a folder under C: and gave it a name
2. I cut photos from the SD card and pasted them in to this new folder
3. Disconnected the SD card and removed it from the slot
4. I was then in the process of copying a movie file from the harddisk to a pen drive and that was when my 1 year old (whom I was carrying while doing the copy) banged on the laptop keyboard
5. The movie file got deleted from the folder and I couldn't find it in recycle bin too
6. Then I started doing "REDO" until I got the movie file back
7. Only to realize that the photos I previously copied were not there anymore in the new folder I created and the folder's name had changed back to "New Folder" (Basically the Folder name and the copy of the photos operation was undone :( )
I have tried a few recovery softwares both on the SD card and harddisk but no luck :( I lost around 200 photos and invaluable memories of a family trip

Any kind of help would be really appreciated

Thanks in advance,

A:Recover Deleted Pictures

Hi Raghu,

Please understand that it is hard for us to retrieve deleted files.

However, I would like to provide the following suggestions for test:

Suggestion 1 System Restore
===================
1. Before you start, please close all open files and close all open programs.
2. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and click System Restore.
3. Select "Choose a different restore point" and click Next.
4. From the restore points available, select an appropriate restore point when your system was working correctly and click "Next".
5. Click Finish and System Restore will restart the computer to apply these changes.

After restarting, check whether your system functions correctly now. If not, you can undo your last restoration or select another restore point in the System Restore user interface.

Note: System Restore affects Windows system files, programs, and registry settings. It also can make changes to scripts, batch files, and other types of executable files on your computer.
It does not affect personal files, such as e mail, documents, or photos, so it cannot help you restore a deleted file.

Suggestion 2 Restore to Previous Versions
===========================
1. Right-click the folder that contains the photos you deleted and click Properties.
2. On the Previous Versions tab, choose a folder before you deleted the photos and click Restore.

If the pictures st... Read more

Let me start by saying I am NOT a computer geek, I had old videos for my late Father and my family saved at a portable hard drive and I was not aware it was deleted by mistake when my little one was playing on the computer; unfortunately I saved other files on the same hard drive.

I downloaded Recuva software to recover deleted videos and was able to recover some but when I tried to open them with window media player, it gave me an error message that says: Windows Media Player can not play the file. The Player mightnot support the file type or might not support the codec that was used tocompress the file. I can’t play it with real player too.

Thevideos were made by Sony camcorder between 2007 and 2009, unfortunately I don’t know the camcorder model to down load the software that came with it.
I would really appreciate any help

A:Recover deleted mails

Sorry, you're out of luck

Didn't the "incredimail software" have warnings before you deleted your emails? If it did NOT, uninstall that software, it's unsafe.

You do not state what email client you use, unless it IS "incredimail." If it is Outlook 2002 or 2003, download and use the Microsoft Outlook PST Backup Utility.

It will add Backup to Outlook's File menu.

The backup will run after closing Outlook (you cannot backup PSTs while in-use).

The backup interface allows you to set a backup filename (if you don't want default), and location (path). For path I highly suggest you not use defaults, put your PST backups in a separate location like My Documents, or (better) on another HD. WARNING - you must specify filenames (optional) and paths for each PST, you should have an Outlook.pst & Archive.pst if you do archive your emails.

The backup interface also allows you to schedule when to backup, and the dialog will open on Outlook exit, on schedule. At work I set every 3-days.

At home I do not use MS Office but since I image my D:\APPS05 drive (includes my email client) every month, I can recover from that.

On one of my laptops I recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Usually when I upgrade it automatically creates a Windows.Old folder in my C Drive where I can access all my files from before the upgrade. But this time there was no Windows.Old folder. So I downloaded and ran a file recovery program...it found 0 old deleted files. I ran that same program on a different laptop and it worked fine. So where could the deleted files have went and how can I access them?

A:Can't Recover Deleted Files

Upgrades do not delete any files. They would be in the same location as they were when you left them.

If you did not upgrade, but installed a fresh copy of 7, the files are most likely underneath the OS and lost. The installation of the OS uses about twice the drive space that the final installation uses, so everything would have been written over.

Hi all,

I was doing an assignment using Word for Mac 2011, and without realising it deleted a section of text. I continued to work on it all evening, so had made multiple saves, before I realised the content was missing. I had mixed answers from googling, but no joy so far, so not sure if anything can be done. Does anyone one know if I have any hope of recovering it, or a previous version of the file?
Also time machine was not on....

Thanks

I need to recover deleted IE history and have scoured all different sources for recovery and im starting to doubt whether or not it is possible.

What I know wont work:

System Restore- The history was deleted between restore points, and the restore points on either side of it being deleted dont have the relevant history

What I've tried:

Index.dat readers. This is what I'm confused about, everywhere I go say this file holds all IE history unless its been altered, but from everything I've actually tried it seems all the index files I can find just hold information I can pretty readily access already.

So I'm willing to try any suggestions, and also if anyone has a little more info on index.dat that would change what I've found out myself it would also be greatly appreciated.

You might try a program called Recuva from Piriform.. But I'm not sure if it will find deleted IE history temp files. Did you delete them from a cleaner program or from IE itself?

GetDataBack is the best data recovery software I've found so far. Very easy to use, very effective.

(1) By accident my user profile (C:\Documents and settings\<username>) got deleted.
(2) I found it in Recycle bin and "restored" it.
(3) However, the "restore" failed to include the normally hidden folder
C:\Documents and settings\<username>\LocalSettings and all of its contents!

(4) As a consequence, because LocalSettings includes ApplicationData\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst, I lost all of my emails, address book etc.

We have tried various recover programs including a deep scan of the directory of the hard disk by have failed totally to find the lost folder and its contents.

Does anyone have any idea what happened and suggestions for additional things to try?

Thanks

Windows XP w/SP2. I do not use Outlook Express. My e-mail is through my ISP, wmconnect.

PROBLEM: 2 or 3 weeks ago I got a reply to a problem from Nero. It was fairly simple and solved the problem. Then I had to re-install Windows XP and the problem returned, but I had lost the e-mail. And stupid me did not write down the steps that solved the problem. Another e-mail to Nero was answered by a different person who complicated the situation; sent a file I can't open, etc., etc., etc. Apparently Nero is in Germany and English may not be clear to him (her?). Back and forth e-mails have not helped.

Now, I wonder if it is possible to restore that deleted e-mail. Wmconnect, my ISP, says it is impossible, but we constantly hear of investigations involving e-mails recovered from months and even years before, so there must be some way to do it. Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Dick

A:Recover deleted e-mail?

As you probably know, wmconnect is AOL related. Their emails are on their servers. So if you deleted it, then it cannot be recovered.

A possible solution.
Chances are not too good if the solution is something unique only to wmconnect or AOL. But you could post the exact problem here and maybe someone will have an answer.

Hello,

I accidentally deleted a folder that has many files in my portable drive. They are not in the recycle bin as I set it for immediately deletion. So I purchased a data recovery program online and it found the deleted files. When I restored and opened the files, they were corrupted. Is there a reliable program that can recover the files efficiently? The Internet has so many programs and I don't know which to pick.

Many thanks.

A:How do I recover deleted files?

Has anything been copied onto the drive since the deletion? If it has, the locations where the deleted files were may have been overwritten by new files. If this has happened, recovered files will be corrupt, and no recovery software will be able to recover them correctly.

If nothing has been transferred to the drive since the folder was deleted, then it's a disappointment that paid software fails to recover them. Well-regarded recovery programs include Recuva, PcInspector and GetDataBack (paid). Other posters may have other recommendations from their experience.

Hi,

I've done a stupid stupid stupid thing and lost an important excel spreadsheet that I last used about two weeks ago. I've been having various performance problems (freezes/crashes) and was advised to run "Malwarebytes' anti-malware".

Before I did this, I backed up all my data to a CD-ROM and then deleted the files from my laptop. Then I went ahead and ran the software. The good news: my laptop seems to be behaving itself far better now. The bad news: somehow I seem to have missed this one file when backing up. I've got all my family photos, lots of stuff from work, even old stuff that I'll probably never need again but I thought "What the heck". Yet somehow, I've missed this one spreadsheet. I could kick myself!!

To make matters (probably) worse, I've run CCleaner a couple of times since then, as I was advised that it keeps the laptop clean. I've just looked at some settings there now and it's using "Normal" file deletion as opposed to "Secure", but "Wipe Free Space" is selected. Damn!

I only realised I'd lost the file last night and I have already downloaded some freeware utilities such as "Restoration" and "Undelete Plus", but none of these found the file.

Should I just give up now? Or is there some software that may find a file even after CCleaner has been run.

Grateful for any help.

Pat
