I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) is a protocol suite for securing Internet Protocol (IP) communications by authenticating and encrypting each IP packet of a communication session.Click to expand...

On linux platforms, it is literally the name of the firewall itself.

First, the firewall has defaults and they become the baseline. The common defaults are:

allow nothing inbound
allow all outbound
User defined rules become the "exceptions" usually to allow more control, as in DENY all outbound and then ALLOW specific programs to access the web, eg your browser, email and any host servers. This stops many forms of virus' from "calling home"

Can anyone tell me how to create an exception in windows firewall so I can play my game. I have windows10 on 4 computers but my newest laptop wont go to my games site it says there is something wrong with the security certificate. I have been playing games on this games site for about 10 years with no real problems. I have norton security on this latest laptop, I have never liked norton
but decided to give it another chance on my latest laptop. Now I dont know if its the firewall or norton causing this problem but i'me biased against norton, still going to give it a chance though so i'll concentrate on creating an exception in the firewall first. Can someone tell me how to do this in windows10?

Hi,

What version of Norton? It very likely comes with a firewall, in which case, Windows firewall should be disabled.

Not sure you need to create an exception anyway, have you tried this?

Hello all! Been a while since I posted. I have a quick question (I hope).

I was browsing through my windows Firewall, and noticed that there are two listings of "dll32" in my exceptions list. They are associated with a TCP and UDP port respectively. I don't recall adding them, and I'm just concerned that they are part of something malicious. Does anyone else have those on their Windows Firewall Exception list? Should I remove them? Is it the sign of some infection?

A:DLL32 in Windows Firewall Exception List?

Is it the sign of some infection?I would say no but why don't you run a quick scan to be sureSome types of malware will disable Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it first.Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file file and rename it to mysetup.exe.Double-click on mysetup.exe to start the installation. If that did not work, then try renaming and changing the file extension. click this link if you do not see the file extensionRight-click on the mbam-setup.exe file, rename it to mysetup and change the .exe extension to .scr, .com, .pif, or .bat.Then double-click on mysetup.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to begin installation. If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.Right-click on mbam.exe, rename it to myscan.exe.Double-click on myscan.exe to launch the program. If that did not work, then try renaming and change the .exe extension in the same way as noted above.Double-click on myscan.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to launch the program. If using Windows Vista, refer to How to Change a File Extension in Windows Vista.Be sure to update MBAM through the program's interface (preferable method) or manually download the definition updates and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. The current situation:

I disabled network connectivity to a particular IP on my Windows computer. In other words, if my system tries to connect to the internet through that specific IP address, it will not be able to do so.

I disabled the connectivity as mentioned above, by following the steps described in the following post: How can I disable network connectivity to a particular port or IP address in Windows?

My Goal:

I would like to allow one single program on my Windows to use that IP and connect to the internet through it (right now that program, like all programs, cannot access internet through that IP, due to the above-mentioned outbound rule).

In other words, my goal is to create an exception to the above mentioned outbound rule, that will allow that specific program to access the Internet through that IP. The outbound rule should apply to all programs and services, except one.

How can I configure things to work this way? Could you please help me?

server machine 1 = windows 7, used as an application server. windows 7 firewall application exception 'inbound' rule added. in this case, server application was 'microsoft sql server, named instance, using port 62718'. servers ip# = 1.2.3.4 (as an example)

client machine 2 = windows 7, used as an application client. windows 7 firewall turned OFF.

no routers between these two machines. its a peer to peer network.

first test (at client machine 2):

telnet 1.2.3.4 62718 fails to connect
portqry.exe test to same ip # and port number reports 'filtered' (meaning the port in question is being blocked by some firewall)

second test (at client machine 2):

turn OFF firewall on server machine 1.
telnet 1.2.3.4 62718 works just fine (telnet session established)
portqry.exe to same ip# and port number reports 'listening' (meaning the port is open and is able to listen for client connections).

evaluation of tests 1 & 2:

apparently when one creates an 'application' exception inbound rule using windows 7 firewall on an application server machine DOESNT WORK AS IT SHOULD!

final test 3:

on server machine 1 - application server, windows 7 firewall, turned back ON. this time i added a new rule that specifically opened port number 62718 (not an application exception in-bound rule, but instead a port exception in-bound rule).

Hello, I cannot add program exception to Windows XP SP2 integrated firewall. Executable file to be allowed to listen is located on local disk mounted to NTFS folder.
When adding through firewall dialog window, it says it just cannot be added. When I use netsh command line interface, it says file not found. When I modify registry manually to add exception, it is just ignored so application is still not visible from outside.

Just doing a check over computer following malware cleanup and came across the following entry in the windows Firewall Exception list:

System Process

A bit curious and concerned about this I clicked Edit and found it was C:\windows\system32\ccapp.exe

Checking this out found it to be part of Norton, however;

the computer does not have Norton installed

Non-Microsoft files found in Windows\system 32 can be fishy

Could not find the file ccapp.exe in the directory, even showing hidden files and using icesword.

Possibly in the past an online Norton scanner was used.

Should this entry be removed?

This one problem kept my win 7 PC from being able to be pinged and share files from incoming ubuntu PC on another LAN with a different subnet.

I have 2 lans, 2 routers, each using a different range of IP.
One is on 192.168.1.x
Other is on 192.168.200.x

I have a static route to direct packets from forward LAN to the other LAN. Only thing was Windows 7 kept blocking that route UNLESS the firewall for the private network was turned off. Even if you turn on sharing, etc... Windows 7 firewall only allows for the subnet LAN it exists on.

So you have to put in a rule and change the scope
The exception is to add your local lan ip range.
For me it scope exception is 192.168.200.0/24

screenshot and also shows the pings from ubuntu PC on different LAN works.

Click Action, new rule, then custom, keep clicking next till you get to scope. Under Local IP, enter your LAN as I did.
Apply it and it works.

A:Windows 7 firewall exception incoming scope rule for different subnet

That's good to know sdowney717, I wasn't sure if Windows could manage sharing between two different subnets but adding the subnet range to the firewall rules looks like it works pretty well for this.

You can also connect to both subnets with a single NIC by adding the secondary subnet to the advanced TCP/IP settings in IPv4 properties.

Hello!
I have a problem with Windows Firewall and was hoping to get some expertise help/suggestions on this matter.
I have made a correct exception rule for all network profiles (domain, private,
public) and everything is working as it should and my program running just fine.

However the problem
arises if I pull out my two network cables from the computer and then plug them back in, then the Windows firewall starts to block my packages (checked the firewall log) and my program fails.
The strange thing here is that if I restart my program it starts to work again and the firewall stops blocking
my packages again.
There also is a little strange thing happening, both my network connections are classified as "Domain" but after I pull both cables and
then plugs in both again it's just one connection that will return to the "Domain" classificatgion the other one is stuck in "Identifying" state and therefor stated as "Public", and
it will be stuck on identifying forever and never regain "Domain" classification. However,
this should not matter anyway I think as my firewall rule is set to work on ALL profiles, and when I restart my program it works again even though "Identifying" & "Public" on the connection.

Is there anyone here who is more versed in how security in Windows works?

Hi
we have put in place corporate wifi and we have been experiencing a problem where the laptop would not obtain a DHCP address when trying to connect to corporate wi-fi

The problems appears to be windows firewall blocking the inbound DHCP request as the defined network at that point is either public or private. If we then also plugged the network cable in the network would change to domain and would then change the firewall
policy from standard to domain and in doing so allow the DHCP to work and the client would get an IP.

we have a centralized DHCP server and we use relay agents on the routers at sites to help issue the DHCP addresses

has anyone come across this before and if so what Inbound exception did you put in. I was planning on using GPO to push the exception out and set this on the standard firewall policy.

This is what i was thinking of adding into the standard firewall policy.

Hello everyone.
I have admin access to my Dl-524 D-link router, and I would like to know how to block a port on my network, that is associated with uTorrent, from another computer on my network.

I have the port that uTorrent is connected with, and it has an automatic exception in the router's firewall settings that I cannot edit or delete. I've tried making a counter rule, but it simply does not work with the other rule already there. As an admin, should I not be able to override a port firewall rule a connected user is accessing?
I don't have access to his computer.

He torrents constantly during the day, and it makes it practically un-usable for me, someone who pays for the internet as well. He lies about it being on, when I can can clearly see it, and I would like to simply make a firewall rule to block the port when I'm online that I can easily change.

Below is an image of what I'm looking at, Thank you.

* I am not supporting P2P or anything of the like, simply trying to block the port and disallow it on my network when I need to.

A:Router Admin, can't override firewall exception?

Unplug the other network cable. We really don't provide P2P solutions here, perhaps you should take a gander at the TSG Rules.

I would like to create a firewall program exception in Group Policy to allow this program to run. How can I use a wildcard in the path? Is this possible?
Thanks

A:Using a wildcard path for a firewall program exception

Hi Tim,
Thanks for posting in TechNet forum.
Here's a detailed example shows you about
Windows Firewall Exceptions through Group Policy.
(Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.)
And it's possible to use a wildcard in the path, like %Program Files% or %Windows%. Please note, if a program uses this method to bind to a UDP port, you might be able to use the netstat command and other troubleshooting tools to determine which UDP
port is being used, and then add that port to the exceptions list.

For a long time now i have been getting BSOD's, pretty much all of the time from System Service Exception and KMode Exception Not Handled. Sometimes the PC never gets to the BSOD and just freezes up and restarts. This happens at any time whether im doing nothing or on the internet, sometimes it happens before the PC can load up fully. Most of the time though it happens when i am gaming. I rebuilt most of my PC but this still carried on. The parts that i have replaces are the PSU, RAM, Graphics Card and the case as well as adding in 2 extra fans. The temperature stays withing good values. The PC also often gets stuck on the post boot screen where it says "SMART Check Capable and OK" and it will take a few minutes for it to get past this stage and carry on loading, but this doesnt happen not all the time. I have tried diagnosing this myself but i have hit a wall. I ran Seatools and the HDD failed all of the tests, however after checking the fail code this was simply because it couldnt find the serial number. The HDD then passed tests from both CrystalDiskInfo and DiskCheckup. I thought that it was either the HDD or the MB as they are the only components not to be replaced. Since HDD seems to have passed its SMART tests i am inclined to believe it is the MB. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello!

I keep getting Exception Code 3221225477 with Exception Address 005019A9 on my computer when I start it up and sometimes during my use of the computer.
It just started up after I put a cannon camera photostitch program on my computer. I have deleted. Then I did all the updateds that were needed plus cleaning out my computer(defragmenting, disk clean up, removing temporary files).
I even went in and stopped programs from starting up when I turn on my computer to make it faster and to see if it was one of them that was causing the problem. It still keeps coming up. Does anyone know why this happens?

My message comes up as

Unexpected Error
An Unexpected error has occured and this application will close. Then the exception code and exception address follows.
Exception Code 3221225477 Exception Address 005019A9

But when I click on ok nothing closes and I can work on my computer. Then sometimes during the course of working on the computer, the message comes up again but again nothing closes.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any replies.

My guess is that there is a Startup entry which you need to remove. Some remain behind even when a given program may thought to have been completely uninstalled.I'd use AutoRuns for Windows - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx to take a look at the items listed on the Logon tab and see if any apparently relate to your troublesome program. If so, I would delete it, but you can either disable or delete that startup item.Louis

Hi Guys,

I'm a composer working on a deadline and have started to experience quite intermittent BSOD's.
It appears to happen at higher system loads.
I'm reasonably experienced in building custom machines (this is my third on), and so far have never experienced issues with them.
This current one is a racked i7 3930K Hexacore on a Sabertooth x79, with 32gb of Ramm and a GTX470.
I'm using Nuendo 6 in 64 bit mode (Cubase's bigger brother) with an RME Fireface 800.
The fireface runs via firewire and has its own pcie card for this.
In addition there is an external G-tech drive connected via Esata.

In the last week I've been having 1-3 bsod's a day..a real productivity killer and I hope someone can help me out. I've used Whocrashed to at least get an indication of what it might be, but I don't have much experience with minidumps.

The only thing that I have noticed is that Windows is attempting a surface scan during startup, which fails due to a 'recently installed software package' I have no idea what that might be.
I've not been able to do a diskchk on C:
Regardless, C: seems to work fine and I've not noticed any issues.

Drivers are pretty much up to date.

I'm attaching a dump, would someone mind having a look and giving me a clue? Thanks in advance!

Joe

Having problems with my computer running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3. Had a virus that attacked a different computer on our network and ran Malwarebytes, Spybot and Avast. All scans came up clean. If I leave the computer for awhile (several hours) my "All Programs" list goes away, the list of recently used applications is gone and if I try to do a Shutdown or Restart it comes back that "I am not authorized to do that". I am now also getting exception errors:
"exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred in the application at location 0x01006a25" and "explorer.exe application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d)". In an effort to try stop antivirus programs from conflicting with each other, I uninstalled malwarebytes and have avast running in resident and Spybot not in resident but demand only. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey BC community,Note: I have never had a problem like this before, it has just started this week.I play maplestory, and this program detected something wrong with my firewall. So I proceeded to my security settings and attempted to edit my firewall settings: turn it on/off and then this error code popped up:So I tried to edit the other settings and the same error code came up each time. After that came up SEVERAL TIMES, I went to a microsoft and other forums to search for help. They told me to go to this window:And said to go to: Windows firewall and do something with it...but it's not there to do anything to? I really have NO IDEA what to do! It isn't effecting me that much, but when i start my Maplestory file up to reinstall it, it closes and it says this:[04/08 01:54:15] Install Start[04/08 01:54:16] User Temp Directory : C:\Users\Devin\AppData\Local\Temp[04/08 01:54:16] Use CRC : false[04/08 01:54:16] File Name : C:\Users\Devin\Desktop\MSSetupv108.exe[04/08 01:54:16] Game Code : 33563155[04/08 01:54:16] Cannot Regitster Firewall(C:\ProgramData\NexonUS\NGM\NGM.exe,Nexon Game Manager)[04/08 01:54:16] ErrCode : 14000 - 404 - 0[04/08 01:54:17] Install Path : C:\Nexon\MapleStoryI have downloaded microsoft anti virus things and they "cleaned up" my computer, but it still hasn't changed anything. I have a problem with Windows Firewall disabling itself every 5 or 6 hours on my computer! Windows Firewall will automatically disable itself and give the following message "Windows Firewall is not using the recommended settings to protect your computer." with only one option "use recommended settings" but I can click that option but after 5 or 6 hours, Windows Firewall gives the same message and is disabled! and I have to go into control panel and fix it! I have a program that cannot connect to the internet because it will automatically update to a new version with less stickers for my photos and deactivate my license for that program and forces me to revo uninstall and reinstall my old version due to this Windows Firewall problem!

First mate, you'll want to scan the computer with an antivirus program. There are numerous free ones if you do not own one yet, such as AVG free, Avast free, or MS Security Essentials. Only use one, otherwise they will conflict with eachother. Use the full scan option if available.

A good program to use in addition to an antivirus program is malwarebytes free, but up to you if you want to install it or not, and run the additional full scan.

Next, run this: Diagnose and fix Windows Firewall service problems automatically

Hi guys,

Could anyone explain to me why Windows Firewall starts when I have Comodo Firewall installed and running?

It makes me nervous!

I have a fresh installation of Comodo Internet Security.

The only reason I knew it was running was because I got the message after a reboot, screenshot 1. When I went into control panel it confirmed I had two firewalls running, screenshot 2. So I have no idea why WF started or how long it had been running.

I seem to remember when I had BitDefender IS2013 it did the same thing, is it to do with my system maybe?

Why does it do that? Is there any way I can ensure Windows Firewall stays off?

BTW, in screenshot 2 you can see I have multiple antivirus programs. well they are Comodo and Emsisoft AM, as well as a rather annoying addition in Advanced System Care Ultimate. Am I right in thinking Emsi is more malware than virus oriented, and compatible with an AV. Also when I installed Advanced System Care Ultimate, they state that their AV is designed to work alongside the main AV. I have it turned off although it still shows up here.

Thanks for any ideas and support, Chig

A:Windows Firewall starts with 3rd party firewall installed and active

Personally I would scrap the lot and install Microsoft Security Essentials. You certainly do not need any third party "Advanced System Care" software with Windows 7. I think you are heading for all sorts of conflicts with what you have installed at the moment. You will find your system speeds up when you get rid of all that bloat. I bet if you check Start up they are all there jockeying for position and slowing your system down. Ughhhh!

I also have NOD32 running.

@RejzoR would be able to provide more information about the working of Avast as he is quite active in the Avast forums!!
I have never used it so can't comment!!
Having said that, windows native firewall is quite good!!

thanks.

A:Eset Smart Security Firewall or Windows Firewall?

I believe that the Eset firewall has outbound protection and if that is the case, I would disable the Windows one as it does not have outbound protection.

Hi. I thought the following would be very simple but these days we know nothing is simple.

What I'm trying to do is block all incoming/outgoing traffic from my machine using Windows Firewall with Advanced settings, but allow only specific sites over http/https.

On the Windows firewall rules, there is no setting for URL, so I put in the IP for Yahoo for example, but I couldn't access Yahoo after I activated the rule. Plus, using IP's wont help when Yahoo can change its IP anytime. It's the URL is what I want, so I can do wild-card URL rules like www.yahoo.com/finance/*.

I tried tools like Kaspersky, but that only works for website traffic, nothing is stopping exotic things like newsgroup traffic from a news reader app for example.

Could someone please tell me how to block everything except specific URLs. Looking forward to your response, I'm stuck here.

Hey everyone,
This is my first post, and first time I've not been able to solve my problem by searching previous posts...so hopefully someone can help me out.
I'm trying to install a downloaded .exe file, and Windows firewall is blocking it regardless of whether the firewall is active or not; the specific error message & the subsequent Windows help screen are attached. The Windows help screen indicates that the file came from an "untrusted" website, and suggests adding the source website to the "trusted" list if I'm sure that the file is safe (which I am, and I did...and I'm getting the same results when I try to open the .exe).
After the adding the source site to the "trusted" category failed, I attempted to run the file after completely shutting off Windows firewall (along with Bitdefender, which I'm also running). I'm still getting the same error message; it's as if Windows firewall is just ignoring me...can anyone help me either get around this, or tell me how to really shut off the firewall so it stops blocking this file?

A:Windows firewall blocking .exe file even after firewall is disabled

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

You can turn the Windows Firewall back on. The issue has nothing to do with the Firewall.

You can turn the Bitdefender back on too.

The issue is probably caused by one or more settings within IE. You might try resetting IE:

About two hours ago, my computer lost internet connection and was searching for network address. This happens a lot, and so far I thought it is normal. But when I right-clicked the icon for "repair", restarted the connection search. But instead of simply reconnecting I noticed a Windows Security Alert popup that said my firewall was disabled. Also my computer went very slow at the time, but is now normal speed and connected. But the popup quickly disappeared as soon as it was shown. I immediatly checked the settings, but it showed firewall was still on. I still have popup saying I turned off automatic updates (I did do this), but it is no longer saying my firewall is off. What could have cause this weird thing to happen? Since then there has been no sign or sympton of infection.

This time the windows security center was whingein that it wasnt protected by windows firewall so have told it I will manage my own firewall....my main query is
1, why did it ask this time & not before? ie: ran alongside sygate happily
2, what caused it to stop runnin on startup?
& just as an added extra...why is Avast still runnin yet no icon showing & to my knowledge has not updated automatically??
Should I be lookjin for nasties or is this all just a configuration problem?

Firewall Issue(s) - Windows XP Professional & Comodo Firewall Pro

Friday/December 3rd 2007: This morning I was looking at the features and settings of Comodo Firewall Pro Version 2.4.19.185. Accidentally I clicked ‘no’ when a learned prompt came up asking if I wanted to allow Avast Free Edition to connect to the net. I believe it was Avast. Anyway I figured I would uninstall and reinstall to correct the settings, no big deal, or so I thought.

When windows started back up and gave me the security alert prompt (Control Panel > Windows Security Center) and I figured no big deal. However it was saying “Comodo is not installed bla bla bla.” When I enabled XP Professional’s firewall, window’s message said, “Comodo was working, etc.”

Windows Firewall worked within normal parameters as far as I could tell otherwise. I will try to recreate issue buy uninstalling and will post detailed results later with screen shots.

Sunday/December 9th 2007: I tried recreating the incident and my results confuse me. Windows XP Professional Security Center Says “Comodo Firewall not on bla, bla, bla.” However, when I turn on XP’s firewall it says “Windows Firewall is on bla, bla, bla. So why when I turn off windows firewall does it say that “Comodo” not windows firewall is disabled?

How would I correct this?

Thank you.
