I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So, I got this computer a few days ago and it works great. Only problem is that every time I switch out of tablet mode or if I open it, my cursor moves up, and I have to tap the trackpoint a lot in order for it to stop. I took it off and I realized that if I hold down the b button hard enough, it actually moves the cursor up. Is there any way to fix this irregular trackpoint behavior? It's probably hardware related, so I might have to send it in for repair (ugh).

I bought a preowned ThinkPad X220 and it didn't have a red rubber Trackpoint on the keyboard, there is just a small black square and a gap.I ordered a replacement online and it did't fit, the square hole in the bottom of the red dome was too big, but it fitted on my X230 keyboard fine which has a yellow plastic square/star thing that the X220 didn't.Does the X220 take different Trackpoint sizes, or am I missing the yellow plastic part that my X230 has? If so can I buy that part separately or do I need a new keyboard? Thank you

My TrackPoint is off center, as in when I take the dome off I see the soldered trackpoint hardware and its skewed to the bottom left. When I put the red cap back on, it touches the letter B and its closer to H and far from G key. I have a feeling a lot of the times my trackpoint moves by itself and is caused by this fact. Anyone else have an off centered TrackPoint?

Hey! I'm quite happy with my new P1 2nd Gen, except the pointing devices suck. Lenovo seems to have switched the TrackPoint to ALPS which comes very stiff, choppy and inaccurate. I played around with udev rules and acceleration settings which made it a bit better, but it is still far from the awesome accuracy and smoothness of the W540, my last machine. Same with the three buttons on top of the TrackPad - especially the left one doesn't react reliably when hit on the lower right corner. I have to press a second time every ten clicks or so. This definitely sucks, so my question is: Is anyone aware of other manufacturers/options of especially TrackPoints and TouchPad-buttons for the P1 apart from ALPS? BestMarkus

Good afternoon all,
We have an older IBM thinkpad 600x, that my husband uses to play simple off line games and read a few emails. The past few days when booting we are getting the error #08611.
From what I have been able to find I believe that this has something to do with the trackpoint.
We use a wireless mouse with this so do not need the track point. Can someone please tell me how to disable the trackpoint?
Thanks!!!
I wish a Happy & prosperous 2010 to all.

Now that the 5th gen Thinkpad is here, the decline of the trackpoint becomes ever clearer.  Frankly, most of us would not be buying Thinkpads if they didn't have the trackpoint.  That's the X1's main advantage.  But Lenovo keeps making it worse.  First, the trackpoint caps that will fit the gen 4 and 5 come in only one, unpopular, variant and you can't get the soft rim version.  But more importantly, Lenovo keeps on degrading the software control of the trackpoint.  It used to be that you could adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint, making it more or less stiff.  Even the softest setting was inadequate but it was something.  In the 5gen there is no option to change the stiffness or responsiveness of the trackpoint's movements at all.  Lenovo: hear your customers!! Please make the trackpoint MORE not less adjustable.

ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set, Part number:4XH0L55146. this is the cap fits to thinpad x1 yoga.

since having z20t for the last year and half. I still can not find any other 2-in-1 to be better. this comes from someone who had previously only used the most expensive thinkpad models and updating every 1-2 years.

however, the trackpoint cap drives me a bit crazy as I rely on it most time as a 10+ year thinkpad user. it is tiny, needs a lot of force to move, and after a while, the surface becomes smooth and easy to slip.

I did tons of search and bought quite a few replacement caps to try, none worked. and it bugs me that toshiba does not sell a replacement either. so one day when the cap wears out or damaged, I would need to buy a new keyboard dock at least.

finally I found one that works perfectly, from no other than thinkpad itself.
ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set, Part number:4XH0L55146. this is the cap fits to thinpad x1 yoga.

It fits perfect into the space, right size recess to connect to keyboard, just a bit higher than keyboard surface for easier usage. It is also low enough that it does not touch screen at all (far from it) when closed.

more importantly, as it is bigger and have many dimple on it. it is actually much much better user experience. I would say now it would give similar feeling as the best thinkpad trackpoint now. no slip, needs much less force to move around.

I found this solution by accident as I bought a... Read more

Hi everyoneI'm in a bit of a pickle. My old keyboard on my x230 (running win10 pro) was utterly worn out so I decided to replace it which is easy enough. However now the mouse buttons for the trackpoint are not working. The trackpad and the trackpoint itself along with the rest of the board work "flawlessly" but not the three buttons for the trackpoint. I'v tried removing and reinstalling the Synaptic drivers, both the newest version and an older one recomended on a different forum. I have triple double checked the board connection is firmly attached and that all the settings in both BIOS and the synaptic panel are set as normal but still no luck. Any help or advice to solve this would be greatly appriciated.

I guess I need to stop installing drivers...  I unstalled the latest Synaptics UltraNav drivers for my X1 yoga today as advertised by System Update (Thinkvantage and companion).  Now it's super-finicky, difficult to scroll on the trackpad, but even worse I can't set the middle button on the trackpoint to scroll anymore!  It just resets to "middle-click" in Lenovo Settings.  I'm a bit beside myself because now I have a yoga that does not yoga (touchscreen does not work after updates) and now I can't even consistantly scroll  I tried to uninstall it as per the readme that came with the update but that does not even work, complaining that a dll file is not a valid windows application.

Currently my TrackPoint middle button does scrolling as desired but when I release it, it pops up a right-click menu.  I can't figure out how to turn off the right-click functionality.  Any ideas? I believe I have fully explored the entire Mouse properties dialog from Control Panel, including the advanced one with the special TrackPoint options.  I tried any option that looked even vaguely related, and nothing helped. Thanks in advance!

Got a T440s Touch. Trackpad looks fine but the left side is slightly tilted compared to the right. Clicking the buttons at the bottom work and the right TrackPoint button at the top of the tochpad works, as does the centre scroll button, but the left one doesn't. The left button doesn't seem to click - can this be fixed easily? Have tried playing around with drivers, blowing compressed air into the trackpad, updating BIOS, enabling/disabling TrackPoint in the BIOS but all to no avail. Any ideas? If the worst comes to the worst I have an L540 - can I swap the trackpads over?

Hi,

On my X1Y3 it started about a month ago.  Bascially after anywhere from 5-30 minutes of the computer turning on my trackpoint icon gets stuck with the middle scrolling point icon anytime im in a text field.  It acts like the middle track point buttoin is depressed even when its not.  see below picture circled in yellow.  This is not related to a specific browser.  It happens in Chrome, IE and Edge.  Synaptics driver version 19.3.4.224.  I updated to the current driver about 3 weeks ago when this problem 1st started.  It happened on the prior driver too.

Unless I am not using it properly, I find the trackpoint on my Dell Latitudes and the Thiankpad T570 (which I had to return as it arrived damaged!) to be impossible to use. It is not sensitive enough for me and I find that too much force is needed to move the cursor, partly because you do not feel any movement when you press it. Am I missing something or is it an immediately love it or hate it thing? Also I am interested to know, do any users aged in their 30s and 20s use the trackpoint? I am in my 40s and (it may be a coincidence) everyone i know below 40 never uses their trackpoint. I would love to loose the trackpoint (unless, as i say, I am missing something) and free up the button space for a nice large trackpad like the XPS 15.

Hiseems T460s (20F9) is wors than my previous laptop T420s, I can't move it so freely as before. At certain point the mouse cursor just stops moving and have to use force with a finger to make it move anywhere. I noticed the cap hole is now much smaller than f.ex. T420s, perhaps this is the reason for it. I found a link on the net to make the movement possible better;http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/thinkpad-t460s-trackpoint-mod.790347/In addition, previously there came several Caps with the laptop, now there is not a single extra one. So I don't dare to try the fix above link before I have at least one extra cap in case something goes wrong. So the question is what is the product code for the Thinkpad T460s Trackpoint Cap collection? I tried to look in the net, hard to find.  I used Lenovoguickpick and the possible code might be this;ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set (Part # 4XH0L55146)Then again googling that with amazon produces no results so can't get those anywhere. Any help appreciated, Thank You.

I have noticed that although my trackpoint and right and middle button (above trackpad) work like the should the left button (above trackpad) doesn't. I thought this has to work like the left mouse button or the left button under the trackpad but it doesn't. I have the latest bios version 1.45 installed and the latest drivers. I have also tried to detach the keyboard and attached it again. After that I tried to disable the trackpoint in the bios and enable it again. This doesn't help either. Maybe it is a defective key because all the other functions and keys do work. Is there something overlook?

(Just posting this here so people in the future can find it.) I replaced my motherboard and just wanted to leave this here for future reference to some poor soul who has to do the same.
If you replace the motherboard on your Dell Studio XPS 8000, (service tag 3L8DHK1) and you need a new motherboard you can use an INTEL DQ57TM, it's compatible and I did a successful transplant. Your processor is an INTEL Core-i5 750 CPU 2.67GHZ it uses a SOCKET LGA1156. It uses DDR3 memory.
Once you take out your old motherboard and disconnect all those usb and audio wires and the power button wires. To hook up your USB front jacks, audio jacks etc.... here's which blocks go where:
Wires from the audio jacks and usb ports go into these colored block connectors, and those connectors get plugged into those little rows of pins/jumpers called Internal Headers. Every motherboard manual tells you about them. Grab the manual for your new motherboard and it'll tell you where your audio1, usb1, usb2, usb3, usb4 Header connectors are they look like 2 rows and 5 collumns of short little pins. (They almost always have 1 or 2 pins missing on purpose.)
the wires leading to a YELLOW BLOCK gets plugged into the audio1 header on your new motherboard, it's for audio jacks on top of the computer
wires with the WHITE BLOCK gets plugged into the usb3 headers on your motherboard (they are for the usb jacks on the very top of the computer tower)
wires with the GREEN BLOCK gets plugged into ... Read more

I've owned ThinkPad laptops for the past 20 years.  My most recent purchase was a ThinkPad X1 Yoga running Windows 10.  My prior version was a ThinkPad Edge 520 with Windows 7. What I've noticed is that the "sensitivity" option is no longer available for the TrackPoint mouse.  I've attached a screenshot of the old Ultranav utility which allowed for the sensitivity to be adjusted from Light to Heavy touch.  On the new version, there is only the option to adjust the speed from Slow to Fast (which was also available on the prior version). I have no idea what the sensitivity is set by default, but it's definitely not a Light touch.  This is annoying especially if you have to scroll through log pages (web page or documents).  This is a real annoyance because it is so much more diffcult to use the TrackPoint, so much so, I'm debating whether to buy a mouse, which I haven't used in over 20 years. Anyway we could get UltraNav to add that functionality in soon???

Hello, I have a thinkpad X240. The Trackpoint button (nipple) has never worked since I've had it. The computer used to have Windows 8.1, however now it has been upgraded to Windows 10. The trackpoint button still did not work after the upgrade. I have tried updating the BIOS to the latest version, with still no change. The keyboard was recently replaced by a Lenovo tech as some keys stopped working properly, which means that the trackpoint button was replaced too. However, it still does not work. I have tried completely removing and re-installing the Synaptics driver from the lenovo website. The Trackpoint button shows as "Enabled" in the BIOS. Below is a screenshot of the "Thinkpad" tab in the mouse section of the control panel. I am guessing that there is supposed to be another option under the "Pointing options" dropdown menu which allows the Trackpoint button to be enabled.  If anybody has any suggestions as to how I can get it working, that would be appreciated.  Thank you

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?
