computer sound skipping problem, mouse moving choppy problem

Q: computer sound skipping problem, mouse moving choppy problem

The problem started out of nowhere.I have windows xp and I noticed that my whole computer is been running kinda choppy.anything that has audio will skip, including music, aim sounds, videos, video games, anything in general.also my mouse moves choppy. It will pause for a second and then start moving again with no problem and then pause again. The mouse mainly moves choppy when I load up certain programs.
I tried scanning my computer with spybot ad-aware and avg antivirus and it found nothing.I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Realtek ac97 and that didnt work either.
I have a cable modem so I know its not my internet connection speed.
I had my computer over a year and it was running with no problems.I started having these problems about 3 or 4 days ago.
Can somebody please help me fix these problems with my computer?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi...
So my computer recently has undergone a massive slowdown in addition to many symptoms that seem to suggest that my computer either needs more RAM or better hardware, however, this is not the case. Until extremely recently, I had never seen my CPU go over 60% and now it is over that number upon opening any application. My computer is so slow to the point where it barely runs. At first I thought this had to be malware and I posted on the other forum; however, after exhausting many tests, we can't seem to fix the root of the problem, so the person helping me suggested I go here and post... although I am still running tests for viruses... it doesn't look too hopeful so I decided I might as well post on this forum so that you can try to help me simultaneously as the malware people. For a complete understanding of what exact tests I have ran etc... .see the other forum at

I really appreciate your help... I just want to be able to use my computer again =/

Hello please help. I have a soundMAX integrated digital HD audio in my PC, with the following 5.10.1.4151 drivers installed.

The problem I am having is that after my PC being on for a few hours when I try to play an MP3 file or a video file the sound is very choppy and skipping. This PC is only about 3 months old. It has 1GB RAM and a DualCore Intel Pentium D820 processor and the motherboard is an ASUS PV5D2-MX-00. I am running winXP Pro.

According to device manager the drivers are dated 5/10/2005, which I guess makes them pretty old......

How can I fix this problem? I rarely have more than 2-3 programs running at the same time so I don't think too much strain is the problem. Do I need to upgrade the drivers perhaps? On this page (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us) I found the following drivers, but not sure if they are the ones I need to download. Version V5.10.02.4490 2006/06/29 update
OS WinXP 64bit / Win2003 64bit
Description ADI AD1986A Audio Driver V5.10.02.4490 for Windows 64bit XP/2003
File Size 11.56 (MBytes)

Please help me if you can. Thanks in advance.

Hi reezy and welcome to TSF !

Could be software or hardware. Let's check the hardware first. Please post your system specs (see the link in my sig). If this is a laptop then brand and model will do, if this is a desktop then don't forget the information from the sticker on the side of the power supply block (you'll have to open your case).

Enter the bios at startup by repeatedly pressing del when the computer starts (if del doesn't work, search for some message telling you which key to press to enter setup or have a look at this site). Search for some hardware monitor or PC health screen and report what your cpu temp, fan speed and voltages (+3.3, +5, +12V) are.

So im having issues when im watching any video (I.E. netflix or youtube) it'll start lagging or chopping, same with video games (other than over watch but every game ive tried on steam like ark or left for dead 2) And like the title says, its not from looking around using the mouse, but just moving the mouse itself. I would think its the GPU if it wasnt for overwatch acting fine (im upgrading soon anyways)

This is quite a complicated problem and become terribly annoying.

My pc's specs are;

Windows 7 (64 bit)
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz
Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR
4 GB of Ram
Radeon 5770 Graphics Card
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller network card
Realtek High Definition Audio

My internet connection is BT 8mb and I connect though an Ethernet cable.

My problem started a few months ago. I bought a PC from Overclockers and as soon as I got it to my university address videos would start to skip. This led to me sending the computer back only to receive a brand new one. After a few minutes the same problem was happening. Eventually I sent that one back and received a new upgraded one with the specs I have posted in this thread. I tried it out at home and I could find no problems other that the audio would spike ever so slightly randomly, but not too noticeable. However I returned back to University and the new system was having the same problems. Il try and describe the problem as accurately as possible... Its not just happening when I play audio or video, the skipping sound is a result of the whole computer lagging. It sounds like a type of matrix (film) sound effect, like a ringing phone sped up. In turn my mouse lags and the computer stutters. It often does it if I click on a link or open up a new tab. However as soon as I unplug the ethernet cable it stops, the computer is fine. If I plug it back in instantly is starts again. I have run process explorer alot ... Read more

Hi there im very new in here so plz have patience and my english aint the best so bear with me

3 days ago i started up my comp, went in to dying light and very fast it hit me something was wrong.
When ever i was moving my mouse cursor everything started to lag, like a mini freeze lag and chopping performance.

Ive been checking out taskmanager and while moving around the cursor my cpu jumps to 30-40% and my sound starts to distort. Another strange thing, as we speak my cpu usage is about 8% and my memory is 63% wich i find very strange (idle).

And my SSD with my OS on it, is also acting strange it has a high % in usage despite being idle. I managed to fix this cursor problem, by shutting down Intel technology access service.

I really dont have a clue why this process is causing all this fuzz, but after i shut it down i immediately feel the strange feeling when moving the mouse. Like a input lag of some sort, hope some one can help me out here (win 8)

A:Very laggy and choppy performance when moving mouse cursor

Welcome to the Forums.

First thing I would do is a complete scan with MBAM

The free version scans the same as the paid.
If nothing shows up then I would go in Device Manager and delete the driver for the Mouse.
Just right click on the mouse device and click Delete.
Reboot. When it comes back up it will say
"Windows has found new hardware..."
and it will install the same mouse driver it had before. For some reason about half the time this fixes device problems for some time if not permanently. If this doesn't work then there may be some other hardware issue.

Hi, I'm having problems with my mouse and video games. (PC). Please watch this video and I will be thankful. Basically my mouse skips and IDK why...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGQk2_pBzz4

1. I get only 30ish FPS with a quad core 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM but I have integrated graphics, is it solely because of my integrated? (6550D, 4GB)

2. Radeon 6950 vs. 6970, is it JUST a FIRMWARE change, and will I be able to basically make a 6950 a 6970?

3. THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE: My mouse isn't a gaming mouse, it's just one that came with the comp, first when I'm like aiming, it's really inacurate because it seems like it skips some locations on the X-AXIS (and Y-AXIS) of the game...

Hi all,
I have read quite many posts so far regarding this issue in Windows 8. It Looks like they have overlooked the Sound skipping problem during playback on different programs and codecs. Whenever one uses Media Player, Spotify or any other audio programs the Sound skipps and crackles. It comes to the point when this is unlistenable any more. My System is definitely strong enough for handling Windows 8 Pro. I've been trying to use different methods like compatibilty installations , playback modifications , drivers etc. but nothing helps. When the system goes in high latency then the sound skipps. Do we need to wait for 64bit proper drivers for Windows 8 update or is there any other solution ? Thanks.

A:Annoying problem with sound crackling and skipping

You say that you have installed the the latest drivers yes?
Where did you obtain these drivers did you go straight to you manufactures website normally under support?
Or where these just pre installed by Windows.

Also it might be worth installing the latests Chip-set driver for your system.
To my knowledge Sony has a programme that you can download from there support page that will install all the latest update for you.

Hi, I'm running XP SP2 on a Toshiba A105 Satellite laptop, and several months ago I started encountering a problem with choppy sound. The sound was distorted and choppy during Windows startup, in every one of my media players (sound, video, etc.), and for all the little sounds that Windows makes when you execute an action (opening a folder, responding to a popup message, etc.). I found this solution to another user's question, which initially worked:

To fix it go to the "Driver" tab and hit uninstall, then reboot and Windows will reinstall it with the proper settings.Click to expand...

The problem is that every few days, the problem reappears. If I go through the uninstall process again, it does fix the problem--but how can I fix it permanently? It's really annoying to have to do this whole uninstall thing every few days.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

A:Choppy sound problem

I should mention that I think there is an underlying ATAPI problem. When I checked the event viewer (eventvwr.msc) I found that there were multiple ATAPI errors:

"The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period."

I'm not sure how to fix this, but I assume it is the root of the problem.

The sound on my computer used to be just fine.

About 6 weeks back I had the Hello4 virus that was all cleaned up here by one of you wonderful folks!

Since that whole process to clean out that virus and fix other misc things, my sound has been choppy.

I tried re-installing a Realtek driver but that did not fix it.

Can this possibly be fixed with your assistance?

A:choppy video and sound problem

Hi rockherhipz4u !

3610kl-04w-b66 is a part number for a cooling fan, it's not the actual model of your Dell computer. Look for some model name like Inspiron, Optiplex or something like that followed by a code that's usually made of one letter and 3 numbers. It should be written on the computer case.

Can you tell us more about your problem : did it start recently or has it always been like that ? Have you installed any new software/hardware recently ?

If this is a desktop computer then open the case and tell us if there's any dust in it (check all the fans and heatsinks).

Press ctrl+alt+del to access the task manager. Go to the processes tab and expand the window. Post a screenshot of that window : press the printscreen (or prt scr) key once then go to start => all programs => accessories => paint. In paint click edit => paste. Go to file => save as and save the image as a .jpg file (pay attention to where you save it). Then use the manage attachments button to attach this file to your next post when you'll reply here. If all the processes can't be seen in one picture then scroll down in the task manager and take another screenshot.

I can't seem to figure out what's up. All of my drivers are up to date, I've tried disk defragmentation, even did a registry cleanup with Registry Easy (which for some reason dramatically increased browser loading times so I restored a backup), but nothing seems to be helping.

This happens in games too, frequent pausing and hanging, but mostly I notice it in youtube. The sound will either skip (even if it's buffered) or it will glitch and do this horrible buzzing noise.

It seems to be related with my mouse occasionally hanging in one place as I'm trying to move it. I've tried using Resource Monitor but I'm not really 100% sure how to see what's going wrong.

I've tried googling this issue, but none of the quick solutions on other forums seem to do the trick.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi GuyFaux,

Are you using the onboard audio integrated onto the motherboard? If so, try re-installing the sound card drivers. If you can, try to get your hands on an add-on sound card and install it on your computer and see if the problem persist while using the spare, add-on sound card. Hope everything works out well for you.

Hello, for about a month or so I've been having some trouble with my sound. The sound is laggy or choppy occasionally. Note this doesn't happen randomly for no reason, it will most frequently occur when my computer is running something that requires a bit more CPU dedication then normal or when I have a few problems already open. For example, if I am running a large video file in Windows Media Player (20MB+) the video and sound will lag and become choppy for short burst periods. I noticed in the video I had of fireworks that it would occur went the fireworks would explode. Another occurance would be running my file sharing program (Ares) while having a few browser pages open, possibly loading a website or on Youtube watching a video. Also if I'm running a game like World of Warcraft and Alt+Tab to open a browser the sound will lag then aswell. You may say to not have all my programs open at once but I used to do this before and this sound problem was never an issue so I'm just looking for some help on this. Thanks.

Honestly you can only run the usual checks to diagnose what the problem is. First I would check Device Manager to see if there are any hardware conflicts, then I would ensure you have the latest drivers for you sound card/device.

Next you need to check if the sound becomes distorted only when your computer has to work hard. Background programs such as a virus scanner or disk defragmenter can slow down your computer enough to interfere with playing sounds so use Task Manager to end any programs that you did not start which are running to see if this solves the problem. If this is the case then it could be a lack of RAM which is causing the problem. I have a similar system to you and used to have a lot of problems before I upgraded my RAM. With what you are running I'd think you'd need about the same as me (2GB).

Thanks.

So I am having computer problems :(.... basically my computer's performance is much lower than it has been in the past... i have been using it for about half a year and then all of the sudden performance dropped... I have never seen my cpu go over 60%... the performance loss is most noticable in startup and when playing audio because of the skipping.

I really would appreciate the help because i think it must be some kind of virus.

I see you have already posted a hijackthis log here. Please be patient while waiting for assistance. HJT Helpers are all volunteers regardless where you post a log. While waiting for a response, you should not ask for help elsewhere or make changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc.) Any modifications you make can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the HJT Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you be patient while awaiting a reply and refrain from asking for help elsewhere. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the HJT Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.To avoid confusing, I am closing this topic. Hi all. I am having the problem of a lifetime. My computer is having very choppy sound at any time including videos, start up and shut down. Mouse movements choppy too. I will give a brief rundown of the steps I took.

1 researched the prob...not enough valid advice.
2 did plenty of reboots..nope, didn't fix.
3 installed various codecs...didn't help.
4 I have used diskeeper, HDD works faster. Nice, but no fix on the issue.
5 I used the SFC /scannow option, it didn't find any probs.
6 researched some more, downloaded all the relevant drivers from dell including the INTEL chipset and bios. still nothing changed.
7 used spybot v1.5, adaware and norton 360 for virus and spyware checks...HDD very clean...this didn't help.
8 I've ran various diagnostic tools which state everything is nice and healthy
9 I called...uh...Microsoft...yes...I did do that...sorry to say. They are horrible...refusing to help without $60..
10 Talked to DELL and they were extremely helpful, but they couldn't do anything to fix the issue, let alone diagnose it.
11 finally, I did a windows repair install and that caused more grief than good. I won't go into the problems it caused, but I did fix them hastily. The main issue here is UNresolved.

If anyone has an idea, that would be appreciated...I am seriously have a stressful time over this and would like to know if there is someone out there who can share this experience please. Can anyone help me?

Hi,

I have a problem never seen before on other computers. It comes on a Vista preinstalled MSI notebook:
- if I want to move a window. I need to click onto the window title bar, and move to the destination and click again to release the mouse. It comes in browsing too. If I want to move down the scroll bar I need just click once then if I move the mouse, the scroll bar is moving until I dont click again. Similar problem in handwriting. At the end I need to click again. So it looks to be a general setting somewhere. It is annoying. How to set up the default settings comes on all systems?

Thanks!

Gerhard.

Hey guys,
I've been trolling these forums for a few months now and just took it upon myself to finally register as I am now in need of help.

Basically every 5-10 seconds, my computer "stops" and I guess freezes, for about .5 of a second, and then resumes. In games like warcraft 3, counter-strike, and other games, this problem persists. Even when typing up a report for school the computer will "stop", freeze, and resume. It will miss the keystrokes that I have recorded during the "freeze time".

This is really an annoyance and has almost gotten me to slam down on my mouse once or twice

If someone could please help me it would really be appreciated.

third issue is java loves to crash on me at least twice a day when watching youtube videos. i've tried reinstalling but that didn't fix anything.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. Also make sure to customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Hi everyone,

I have a 3-year old Toshiba A100-989 laptop. I did a complete reformatting about 5 months ago. Everything worked fine for quite a while.

Now the computer takes forever to start. When the windows XP sound that plays at the beginning played, it played all crackly and skipped parts, and was really drawn out. Listening to MP3 or watching videos is of course impossible now. It again takes an awful long time to shut down or to start programs.

I attached the hijack log file and hope that anyone can help me.

Thanks,

Well, I am not sure if this is the proper place for this question... oh well.

For the past few years my computer has been sort of crashing, that is to say that the image and sound start to skip like a CD and will sometimes stop after like 1 second, other times 30 seconds and other times it will last for a few minutes, or until I decide to just restart to save time. I included a little look at the task manager's cpu usage graph, the spikes in cpu usage correspond to skips that I experienced, the final spike lasted for about 30 sec, the other were only a few seconds.

It is really quite random and over the past 2 years I have been able to find no pattern revealing what causes it to skip, it just starts and stops seemingly at random, though it happens more often when I have many tabs open in google chrome....

I ran mem-test and it was error free, I also ran CCcleaner and it still is happening, I am sort of at a loss here, I have no idea why my computer is doing this. My PC specs are as follows:

- Windows 7 Professional
- Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHZ
- 2 gb Patriot Extreme Performance SDRAM DDR2 800
- ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus
- GeForce GTX 260 896MB
-300 GB WDD velociraptor
-1 TB WDD Green Power
-OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply
- HT | OMEGA Claro Halo Sound Card

Any insights or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

A:Computer image/sound skipping

Two likely causes:

1) Either you have a bus-mastering issue (IRQ steering bandwidth bottleneck), or

2) Your hard drive has fallen back to PIO mode. Even a SATA drive is slower than
molasses in January, when stuck in PIO.

The bus-mastering issue is a tough one, because you may have to install an alternate HAL
to force Windows to to obey resource/IRQ assignment (Windos default HAL overrides the CMOS settings, so forget the BIOS setup screen).

The latter case involves editing the registry, and I'm not familiar enough with Windows 7
to help you there, but it should be similar to 2000/XP, and there are a couple of values
you have to delete, as they are 'flags', to prevent manual setting of your ATA drives,
and these flags must be cleared in the registry.
Of course, here are other possible issues, too, such as drivers, extensions,
application bugs, spyware, malware, filesystem fragmentation, etc... but I'll bet you a
dollar against a dog biscuit it's one of the two above.

If so, then it's a Windows issue, and not a hardware issue.

Ok, here's a problem I used to have with flash videos/games, but as of today it is happening with youtube videos too. I have yet to find anyone that actually knows how to fix the problem, but hopefully somebody here can.

When I try to play a youtube video, it shows one frame ever 1.5-2 seconds, and the browser and my mouse will similarly lag/skip. However, if I change tabs, or the video stops playing, the problem goes away. I'm currently running an AVG scan, and I already tried using CCleaner for both registry and programs. I've got the latest updates for both my Vista Home 32-bit and Firefox. Like I said, this problem just started today or yesterday, after 3 years of no problems on my laptop.

I tried running videos in Netscape (yes, I still have it) and even downloaded Google Chrome, but they're similarly afflicted. I'm not bothering to list my hardware specs, since I haven't changed any hardware since yesterday (or for the past year, for that matter), so that clearly* isn't the issue. Can anybody help me out?

*I say clearly, because barring some weird issue like my video card getting an STD, or my computer actually being a transformer, I'm 99.9% sure the hardware is not at fault.

A:Video is skipping/choppy, and browser follows suit - can ANYONE answer this?

Sounds like graphics card or built in (CPU) graphics are failing. Open box and make sure connections are tight.

It happened Yesterday.

i have turned my PC on as usual, but after 10 to 15 minutes my audio/sound/video/mouse stutters/lags/glitches when i am listening to music, YouTube, CD or when i am playing games like Star Craft 2, Dota 2 or even Mine craft. It is happening to three of the browses i am using: Mozilla, Chrome and Explorer so it is not a problem of the particular browser. i have tried to restart the PC but didn't work, i have tried uninstalling the Adobe flash if that was a case and then restarting the PC, then installing Adobe Flash but the problem is still there. i haven't tried to back up my PC because it is only 2 moths old and i don't want to lose my games and files on the computer.I have even tried to change batteries but still nothing.

if you know what is the cause of this all and you have solution for it please reply me thank you a lot.

PS: about the mouse.
when i am not watching anything, listening anything or even playing anything the mouse still lags and glitches. i have checked the connection still perfectly fine and i have tried to scan my PC if there is not Viruses and nothing is showing up, I am using kaspe... Read more

A:Sound/audio/video stutters/lags/glitches when moving mouse

I have the exact same computer as you and even the exact same monitor, with all the same specs. I've also had this computer only 2 months.. and I'm having the same troubles as you. The audio randomly goes laggy and glitchy and sounds so strange through my speakers. Got no idea how to fix it but I'm probably going to take it back to the store if I can't fix it.

I installed a new power supply and graphics card yesterday and now when my computer is busy (espcially while running World of Warcraft) the shound is very choppy and sometimes robot-like. I usually listen to music through pandora.com while playing and will use Ventrilo to talk to other players, but both are horribly choppy now. I have tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling, checked and did all updates for the computer including drivers. Please help me get this problem resolved.
(also i'm not too computer-savvy so i answering please be as specific as possible, thank you)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
RealTek Audio

Any other information let me know.

Thank you in advance for all help!

My computer is 7 months old. When I first got it everything was fine other than various irritating vista issues. A couple months after that the sound started getting choppy. If I'm just playing music and doing nothing else the sound is fine. but if I am playing music while using another program or internet, the sound is very choppy, and drags like rrrrrrrrrrrrrr... It's especially bad whenever I'm surfing the net and it's loading a page or I'm downloading something. At first I could play youtube videos right away while they were still loading. now I have to wait until they are done loading or I get choppy, draggy , stuttering audio.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530
Vista SP1
2 GB Ram
288 GB Hard Drive ( just short of 3/4 full)

I have updated all drivers
