Lenovo M910q - Optional Type-C USB Port

Q: Lenovo M910q - Optional Type-C USB Port

Hi - I recently got the Lenovo M910q as a warranty replacement for my broken M900. I'm now looking for the 'Optional TypeC port with U3/DP' internal cable but not having any luck finding it - can you please help?It seems that I wouldn't be able to use both a 'Display Port to HDMI' internal cable [which I already have and works fine] at the same time as a 'Type-C port with U3/DP' internal cable, even though there are two connectors on the main board and two 'Punch Out' ports on the chassis - is this true; and if so, is this only because it can only support one additional display out. I don't see why that would be the case when it mentions on the product page that it can have two additional DP ports (see below). So why not both? Would it be okay to have both the Type-C and HDMI connected if I didn't use the Type-C connection as a display connection; instead just as an ordinary USB data+power connection? Here are links to the:Product Page - which mentions "2 x Punch Out (1: Serial/DP/HDMI/USB-C + 2: DP/VGA)";Customize Page - which will only let you select either HDMI or Type-C but not both; andUser Manual: - note items 9 & 10 of page 4 '2 x Punch Out', and items 3 & 4 of page 6 (item 4 is labeled as a 'Storage drive fan connector' but this is where I have my working 'DisplayPort to HDMI Port' internal cable connected).Just out of curiosity, if it can support two additional DisplayPort ports, where does the second one connect to the main board? On page 6 of the User Manual, items 1 and 2 are both 'Serial connectors' and they are both the same-shape socket connector, item 3 is for the USB 3.1, and item 4 is for the DisplayPort/HDMI/VGA (mislabeled as storage drive fan connector? - and if it can only support one serial port, why does it have two connectors on the main board? - and who in 2018 still uses a serial connection!?). NB: Now that I've done all this research and and typing this post, I realize that all the external USB Type-A ports are version 3.1 - perhaps I should just get a 'USB 3.1 Type-A' to 'USB 3.1 Type-C' cable or adapter-dongle and save myself a whole lot of trouble. Never the less, I'd still like to know - if you have answers to my questions--particularly No.1--it would be most appreciated if you could reply, including links where applicable. (sorry for the long post - I did try to be sucinct, yet explicit) Thanks in advance, Dominic

Preferred Solution: Lenovo M910q - Optional Type-C USB Port

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Pulled the latest Tiny (with the now optional VGA port) out of its box this morning, and was treated to a blank monitor (no signal) while the box blinked and did what looked like its boot routine.  Called support, and they went with the branch script and ordered me a new motherboard after confirming that I didn't want to just replace the entire unit. (Motherboard installed in 2 days max won over new machine from Mexico in a week). Since I wasn't happy with the fault finding script, I decided to pop the lid off the box (not sure why I didn't do that in the first place) and... lo and behold, there was the VGA cable, looped and pinched between the HDD cradle and its structural mount (the HDD is in a frame that clips into the case structure). I unclipped the HDD frame, straightened the loop, fiddled with the cable and rolled the wires inside around a bit (it's in a woven jacket) and turned the computer back on. The fiddling moved everything inside around enough to get rid of whatever shorts the crushed wires had created and voila - the VGA port works. So, now I know with 100% certainty that it's a damaged cable, so I immediately get back on the phone with support and let them know that they can cancel the motherboard and just ship a VGA connector/cable assembly to the local tech.  After a couple of holds to discuss my suggestion, the service tech informed me that they were shipping a motherboard anyway (???) since it probably had the VGA cable and connector at... Morning, Trying to figure out something here, this is, for all intents and purposes, something new for me, as I've been mostly a "Mom n Pop" Tech vs "Business Tech" so, anyway. I'm working with M900, and M910Q with Intel 530 Integrated for video. I'm trying to trouble the following issues to verify if I missed anything, before punting said minipcs to Lenovo for RMA. Anywho, issues: 1. A M910Q, only the DP port with the metal bracket will work. When the Primary is plugged in, any secondary plugged into the other ports will show up under that port when looking at it in the Intel GFX Display view. I figured this out when I changed the resolution on the 2nd monitor, primary changes. Primary is the live monitor. 2. We have a number of M910s and M900's where when trying to use dual monitors, thru DP -> VGA or DP -> DVI. Monitors would flicker like strobe lights. This can sometimes be bandaided by swapping cables and adapters, but not completely remove the issue. I will point out that we do not have any actual DP Capable monitors on site. Not yet anyway, and those that will be, are going to ThinkCentres with Discrete Cards in them... Ideas? Am I miss anything? I don't see anything in the BIOS to help me, and updating the drivers doesn't seem to provide resolution either. Most are running old drivers, but a few are running the latest for the machine.

As an IT manager, consultant, and technician, I am increasingly frustrated with the severity of issues being created by what is obviously a product that is not ready for general release to the public.

Please downgrade the Type rating for IE8 from 'important' to 'optional', so that my staff, our clients, and our business can disregard IE8, until such time as Microsoft corrects the issues with IE8.

You wouldn't buy a car that breaks down everytime you turn on the ignition. Why would Microsoft push IE8 when it is defective to begin with?

Company policy for our business is to remove all IE8 products, revert to IE7 for the moment until we consider moving to another browser.

Hi,

I have a new M92p Tiny (2121A4U) that was purchased to take advantage of the 3 native independent displays.  Additionally the DisplayPort to Dual-DisplayPort Adapter (0B47092) was purchased to facilitate this as I was told that is what i needed.

So far, I can get either cloned or stretched desktop on the two DP monitors, but NOT extended/independent displays.  I called Lenovo Support and after walking them through their own product and what their marketing department is saying exists, was told that the Intel HD 2500 card doesn't work for this.  According to the PSREF (pg 161), this DOES work.

One would think it'd be simple, but so far . .  nothing.  I've updated all drivers and BIOS, downloaded and installed the Mosaic driver and such, but still . . . no change.

So, does this work? Or not?  And if so, how do you go about doing it?

Thanks in advance!

Okay so I'm stumped with my work terminal.

I'm using a Lenovo M92 (M2121-D5U) and I've been trying for days to extend a third monitor, but have failed at every turn.

I have 3 video ports: VGA, DP (and an exchangable third - currently DP). I have all three monitors plugged in, and using my Intel HD Graphics Options, I can switch between 1/2 - 2/3 - 1/3- etc, etc, but I cannot actually get the display to extend across all three monitors.

My current System Stats:
Windows Version: Pro 10.0.16299
Processor: Intel i5-3470T
BIOS V/Date: 9SKT99AUS 6/30/17
SMBIOS: 2.7
BIOS Mode: Legacy

I've gone into my BIOS and the "Multi-Monitor Support" option in Video doesn't exist, even when I change from AUTO to the Internal Graphics.

Every time that I try to extend the 3rd screen in the native Display Properties I see this error:
The display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination of display settings.

But like I mentioned, I know that my pc recognizes all three monitors as plugged in, but it won't allow all three to display simultaneously. Does anyone have any thoughts? - I've gone through the Lenovo Updater and even pulled down the BIOS Flash from Lenovo's website, and as far as I can tell I'm up to date on everything.

A:Thinkcentre M92 Tiny: optional 3rd video port, unable to make all 3 monitors work concurrently

I've gone into my BIOS and the "Multi-Monitor Support" option in Video doesn't exist, even when I change from AUTO to the Internal Graphics.

The "Multi-Monitor Support" is an option in the BIOS for systems that have a PCI slot for a graphics card.  Not applicable for a Tiny system.   That said, having 3 monitors concurrently active with your system (with this Intel processor model) should be possible.

Other things to try:  1. reset the  BIOS settings to the defaults.  2.  do a CMOS reset.  Remove the coin battery, unplug AC power cord, press and hold the power switch for 20 sec multiple times (then, if possible leave overnight), insert battery and power, wait 2 minutes and power-on.

So, okay, an optional update showed up this morning to remove some broken Lenovo software: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3107998

But this machine I'm typing at is an ancient-ASUS-motherboard machine, not a Lenovo.

Now, in this house there IS a Lenovo laptop (that has yet to be updated, probably, since it's early morning and my daughter carried it into her room so I can't yet get to it...).

Did Microsoft distribute this "Lenovo Fix" optional update to regular nonLenovo PC users?

Or did Microsoft get their database(s) confused and think this aAm machine is a Lenovo machine?

Or what?

A:Malwarebytes has found PUP.Optional.BrowseFox.A and PUP.Optional.Webconnect.A

Good evening.

do you need the DDS logs as per the thread at the top of this forum?

Yes, that's why it's there. HijackThis has not been seriously updated in some time and so is not considered worth the hard drive space, although I suppose that it acts as cheap advertising for Trend Micro.

Will you also let me have a copy of the detections that MBAM is finding. You can paste them into your next reply from the Logs Tab in MBAM.

Does my USB type C port support HDMI? My monitor works when I plug direct into the HDMI plug on my laptop. But when I plug my multi-adapter JCA374 hub into the USB type 3 port, it seems to only support ethernet and USB. No HDMI signal comes out of the adaptor. Thanks,Ken

I recently bought an IP 520 i7 7 gen 15.6" machine. It comes with a type c port. I want to know if I can plug in a type c to vga adapter and use another monitor on my laptop. I bought an adapter from Amazon and I tried plugging it into the c socket but that does not work. However, when I tried the same adapter on my sister's Mac , it works just fine. Now my question is, Is the c port just for charging and does not have I/o pins , or my USB c is damaged ?

Hi, i need help with my internet. My ISP provided me with an internet cable,no modem, just a cable and ipv4 settings would give me internet access on my PC.So, i bought a TP-Link WR-740N wireless router and got it setup. Now i access Internet on my laptop using WiFi.I do a lot of gaming on my laptop.I recently bought Call of Duty Black Ops 3.The game runs fine but it takes some time to connect to a multiplayer session.I read that the NAT type should be open to get a good gaming experience and join games quickly. My NAT is Moderate now and i really wanted to change it to open.In game settings it shows that I need to use UPnP or forward port 3074 UDP.I have tried several ways to port forward the particular port but it is of no use.Can someone here please tell me how can i get an Open NAT type.
These are all the things that i tried.
1.Login to my router and forward ports and enable UPnP.
2.Go to Network Infrastructure and Select my device and add a Port.
Also if My ISP blocks that particular ports,is there any way that i can open them?
Thanks in Advance.

I'm getting ready to buy an external USB hardrive to add cap. But in reading various literature, there is a BIG speed diff between Type 1.1 and 20., I am trying to determine the IBM 1400 Thinkpads USB 'type' but havent been able to find out. I've been the the IBM support page and done internal diags on my laptop but no result.

Any suggestions ??? (i'm probably overlooking something simple, but it hasnt slapped me in the face yet...)

Thanks !!!

Hello Community,
I've been experiencing constant screen flickers when I used the USB type C port on my XPS 13 (signature edition).
Situation: I'm trying to display the content of my laptop on my LG HD TV by connecting the TV to an HDMI cable and the HDMI cable to a USB type C adapter, and to my XPS 13. The screen flickers on and off almost instantly. Anyone encounter the same problem?
It's been very frustrating as this is my third XPS. My first 2 had many screen flickering issues in general, and this one I'm currently using only has screen flickering when I attempt to perform features/activities involving the USB Type C port (lightning port).
Any solutions please? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

A:Screen Flickering when using USB C type port

I just purchased my Dell XPS 13 last week.  The Dell Thunderbolt H15 Docking Station has the same problem.  It will work fine for a few minutes, then the screen will go black and it will come back on in a few seconds.  Dell Customer Services could not figure it out, but they said it was a known issue that they are working on.
So, I bought a Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI adapter along with an Amazon Basics HDMI cable.  This seems to work with a monitor, but not with my Samsung HD TV (I have two, and the problem is the same with both).  The screen again goes black, then resets every 15-20 seconds.
I am not sure what the issue is, but if I find something in my research, I will bring it here.

I just posted this on another site but I think this site has more activity, so:
Hey everyone. The internet I use at work requires a proxy to use (I connect to the network, which is unpassworded, and then go to my proxy settings and configure the IP and Port for the proxy server, and I use that same one for all protocols). After setting it up with the proxy I've been told, the internet works. However, I obtained a free-to-use proxy (IPORT style, from the internet), and after verifying that it works at home (set it up, internet works), if I try to use that same free-to-use proxy at work, the internet's a no-go.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance

I'm thinking about buying the E5-575G-53VG. I have a monitior that only accepts DisplayPort as an input. The monitor in question is a G-Sync monitor (AOC G2460PG). I'm not expecting to use G-Sync with this laptop, but I want to be able to use the external monitor anyway. My question is, can I use the USB Type C port for this purpose? Some USB Type C ports are Thunderbolt 3 which is DisplayPort compatible. Is this one of those ports? Thanks.

So I just recently bought a Yoga 920, Star Wars Editon, this last weekend. And today I had my phone connected up through the USB-A port, and while attempting to remove the cable from the laptop, it took a little more effort than normal, only to find that one of the pins inside the port had been bent. I took it into Best Buy to have GeekSquad take a look, and aside from sending it out and having to wait 1-2 week, they suggested I contact Lenovo about the port replacement ability, and then bringing it in for them to work on. So, my question is, is the USB-A port a replaceable part, and if so how would I go about getting a part? Or will I need to have them handle it and send out for repairs?

I charge my computer via the usb type-c power connector since that is the correct way to do it. Obviously my computer has very few ports.  It seems a waste of a port to use it to power my machine.   Isnt there some way to use that port as a usb type-c port, AND, at the same time, use it to power the machine.   Power requires only 2, maybe 3 wires.  Isnt there a way to 'split' the port to allow me to make use of the port as a USB port?

Hello, I have a pretty new Yoga 920-13IKB.  The USB Type A port just stopped working out of the blue yesterday.  I tried the normal stuff like deleting the usb entries in device manager, disabling fastboot and trying different devices, but nothing is recognized.  I have a USB C to USB A adapter and when I plug a USB A device into the laptop via the USB C port/adapter, that does work fine.  The USB A port does charge my phone though, so it's not totally dead. Anything else I can check on the software side?  It certainly seems like a hardware issue to me. As far as warranty support, I do have Microcenter nearby.  How does support with them work?  It looks like the USB A assembly is a separate board and is not part of the motherboard, so that should be easily replaceable.  Does Microcenter carry parts like that or do they still send it out for that? Thanks!

Been a little embarrassed at two client sites in the last couple of weeks when I've tried to share my screen using the USB type-C port with either DVI or HDMI. In both cases (but not with VGA - it works fine with VGA, usually) the system locks - no keyboard, no mouse, until I remove the cable from the USB port. I've tried this with several adaptors - DVI-DisplayPort-USBC; HDMI-DisplayPort-USBC (there are no "multi-adaptors" from TypeC to all output types - VGA, DVI and HDMI, but there are plenty of display port multi-adaptors, and there are TypeC to DisplayPort.) The system at my office is VGA - and it works just fine. When I try to plug the DVI cable into the multi-adaptor, though, it behaves exaclty like at client sites - machine lock up and then no DVI out on the secondary monitor. Same for HDMI at the office - machine locks up for several seconds, recovers and then no HDMI out. Can't really afford to buy three completely different adaptors (assuming they're even made) for all possible client possibilities. Please tell me what diagnostics i can perform to isolate the problem. To summarize:VGA->DisplayPort->TypeC works (most of the time - not in all instances)DVI>DisplayPort>C never works (locks up and then doesn't recognize seconndary monitorHDMI>DisplayPort>C - ditto with DVI Thanks.

Hello and welcome,

To clarify for me and others reading your post:  your issue is only with USB-C to multi-adapters, but not with individual ones?  Your post subject implies a more general issue than that.

After reading your post I plugged my Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI (single interface) adapter into my 900 and it works fine.
