Unable to Backup Laptop and Unable to Remove VSO Downloader Program

Q: Unable to Backup Laptop and Unable to Remove VSO Downloader Program

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem... I've been trying to backup my computer to an external drive and I keep getting the error code: 0x8078002A. I've tried numerous times in the past few weeks with no success and the same error code each time. My laptop is a Dell XPS 17 (L702X, Early 2011) with an Intel® Core™ i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.40GHz processor with 8.00 GB of installed memory (RAM). The Windows edition I'm running is Windows 7 Professional. The size of the backup that I'm trying to run is 327.56 GB (and I know there is plenty of space on the external drive to accommodate the backup). The external drive I'm trying to back up the laptop to is a WD (Western Digital) My Book external hard drive that is a 4 TB hard drive. It currently has 1.88 TB free of 3.63 TB according to its properties. I recently performed an "Error-Checking" run with the external hard drive (by clicking on 'Properties' and then the tab that said 'Tools' and then 'Error Checking' and it went through that process and fixed whatever errors it might have found. I had read on some other forum that I should try doing this to see if that would make the backup work, but it still won't work and I'm still getting the same error code.

I read on another forum that you could possibly be getting the error code 0x8078002A if you had a virus or malware or some other type of problem.  I'm not sure what else to try or do...  I do run Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition regularly as well as Microsoft Security Essentials, but they say my laptop is clean.  I also cannot get a program to uninstall - it is called VSO Downloader 4.2.6.2 and it has another program with it that I am also unable to uninstall called VSO EVE Network Driver version 1.0.0.27.  I don't know if these could have anything to do with my issue..

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas that may help me resolve this problem I would be so appreciative. Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello there,From this article, it appears to be a bug in Windows Backup. Can you try using a third-party backup utility? Good choices are Macrium Reflect (for imaging) or EaseUS Todo Backup.Since you have a Western Digital drive, it is also possible to use Acronis True Image WD Edition.Let us know how that goes.Regards,Alex

Hi
Recently file type associations have disappeared for files on my pc. I have received a windows file to fix it, but I am not able to download it as it keeps been transferred to orbit downloaded on the pc and orbit downloaded has become corrupt and cannot be found. I have tried uninstalling it and restarting pc but downloads are still being transfered to it. Any advise to remove orbit downloaded so I could install it again would be appreciated.

From the Orbit site: http://www.orbitdownloader.com/how-to-uninstall.htm if that doesn`t work, try Revo uninstaller found here: http://majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.html

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I keep getting an error when I try to use the Backup Program. As far as I can tell there are no hidden partitions. Using the Administrator tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management tool, I deleted all the partitions on my external ESATA drive which is larger than my boot drive. Then I recreated two partitions, one a 30G partition and the other uses the rest of the 320G drive. After formatting them, I tried to do a backup and received the same error. I have done this twice now. Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix this?

I used the external drive dock in USB mode and got the same errors. I tried two different external enclosures and still the same errors.

A:Unable to backup hard drive with Backup Program

That error seems to be referring to your system partition, not your backup destination. Make sure you're logged in as an admin.

Now run an elevated (admiinstrative) command prompt
Start > Cmd > Right Click Cmd.exe > Run as Admin
Type in: sfc / scannow

If you get errors, run that three times.

If that doesn't help you could try a System Repair or Repair Install.

Welcome to TSF! Cannot imagine wanting to keep Gator......

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Your HJT is outdated. Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. Welcome to TSF.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hello,

I recently ran some anti-malware scans on my laptop after not having done so for quite some time. I used Spybot S&D, AVG Free Edition 2012 and Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. Spybot S&D detected an infection called Win32.Downloader but was unable to remove it.This is the relevant part of the Spybot report:

Does anyone have any information on this?

Hello to all,
Hoping someone can assist. I have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else.
CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee. Is there some way of fixing this??? Thanks for any assistance!

I have an external hard drive permanantly plugged in which I install my games to and run from there.

Well, it crashed and I got it running again but now it won't run Sims 3. So I want to uninstall it and change over to my new hard drive.

When i try to uninstall it I get the message shown in the picture. It says the files are installed to drive F, but my hard drive is drive G. There is no F.

So. My question is - how can I remove any traces of Sims 3 from my computer? I don't care if there is anything left on the external hard drive because I'm getting rid of it. I just don't want anything left over on my computer.

Problem is when trying to uninstall a error message pops up saying "Can't open log file" not sure what to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you will have to contact the manufacture of the computer once again and tell them that your having issues uninstalling the program, perhaps they have instructions for a manual removal, then you may need there help to re-install the program. I assume you have the software where you can re-install it correct? If you do not have the software, you need to get that first before you go and uninstall anything.

A:Unable to remove from Start Menu list, the last installed program

Hello Glenn,

If you mean the bottom half of the Start Menu under the "Pin to" area (not in "All Programs"), then this would be the recent programs area.

Since the usual "Remove from list" didn't work to remove the program from the recent programs list, you could turn off and on recent programs to remove it. This will remove all the other recent programs as well though.

Are you asking for help to complete manufacturer's Factory Recovery without even mentioning the make/model?

There should be a manufacturer's Recovery Partition on the HD which is a more stable method of recovery than running the Disks. Try running it now. If it fails boot in with free Partition Wizard bootable CD to see if the Recov partition still exists, mark it Active then reboot to see if it will run.

If this fails post back the make of computer. Try booting to run the Recovery disks again, after wiping the HD to clear the boot sector: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If these fail you can order new Recov Disks from maker or use a Win7 DVD to clean reinstall with the Product Key on COA sticker: Reinstalling Windows 7

Hey,

Lately I've been experiencing unexpected shutdowns, so I figured the best thing to do was to clear the layer of dust from my heat sink. Unfortunately for me, my computer model (see below) requires that I disassemble the entire laptop to reach the heat sink and fan. Currently, I need to remove the laptop top cover assembly, but it simply won't budge. If I try to lift it up from the edges, it feels like something is holding it in place in the middle, even though I've unscrewed everything from top to bottom.

How do I get it off? Has anyone ever experienced this before??

I thought I would remove Office, and reinstall it. When I opened Control Panel, add remove programs, it would not generate a list of programs that I can remove. It just seems to hang.
I am using Spydoctor, Adaware & Spybot. Have latest antivirus updates, & use a firewall.
Could it be an infection?
I have included the following HJKT log.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bara

My laptop has recently recovered from a malware infection as per http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/575624/removed-rootkit-and-idp-trojan-is-cleanup-complete/

Now, I am unable to complete backups. I am using a new WD 2TB hard drive.

The last error I received is as attached when I used a USB 2.0 port.

I initially suspected a problem with WD drives as there is a known issue with using the USB 3.0 port for transferring of large files. The error I received was Access is denied, 0x80070005.

However, now I'm not too sure what the problem is.

A:Unable to complete backup using Windows Backup

See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/968003 for info on that error.

Not sure at all how what appears to be a Windows Update error...would impact backing up.

I've got a tricky one here for you...

Ok, One of my friends popped up on facebook chat today and said "I hear you're a computer guy can you help?", I said yes.

Now his situation is that he can't run a game downloader, which is an MSI, that uses that client to download the files from a server somewhere. The same is with the installer for Microsoft Security Essentials.

When running the game downloader, it will get to he part where it tries to contact the external server to download the files from, and it says there is no internet connection. This is exactly the same when using the MSSE downloader/installer and seems like there is something blocking access.

I got him to install Team Viewer for me so I could remote on and take a look, He had Mcafee installed with a firewall etc, I uninstalled that and put another AV on there. Made sure there were no firewalls or proxies running there weren't, and he still couldn't do what he needed to do!

So I asked him to start it in safe mode with networking, and try to use the downloader... AND [Blo and behold[/B] it worked. I asked him to try it again in normal boot, and it didn't...

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? I don't suspect that it is malware... If anyone has any ideas please advise!

Since all is well in SAFEMODE, use MSCONFIG or AutoRuns to go through start-up apps, disabling each until the culprit is found.
