win32k.sys blue screen when closing mozila after a long run

Q: win32k.sys blue screen when closing mozila after a long run

Hi there,

Sorry to bother you ,but this blue screen of death it starting to piss me off
It usually happens after PC is up for 3-4h and then i close Mozilla (usually the song is still running from YouTube, last time this playlist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvRV...=RDI2GRCyhvgb8 ;i know id doesn't help but at-least maybe you will enjoy it while looking at my issue ) a weird sounds happens in headphones/speakers and then the "beautiful" blue screen of death; didn't manage to write down the error code but manage to read win32k.sys in front of it.I attached the traces collected with Dialog Collector to this tread.
Note : in the past i had another issue with blue screen with the message ndis.sys but since i installed another network driver for my board that issue was fixed, but this one with win32k.sys can't figure it out

Could you please have a look on it?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Raj,

Can you divulge a little please? Are you getting a blue screen with lots of white writing (BSOD - BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH)? If so, we will need to see the long code (for example 0x00000000007F, 0X0000012345D, 0X0000.... etc etc)

If its not the BSOD, then please tell us more details.

I am having a pc issue and I am hoping someone can lend me their expertise to help solve the issue.

Compaq Presario SA4000T
Pentium 4 3 Ghz proc
RAID Array 2 drive mirror

The issue...BSOE with the following displayed:

A problem has been detected and your computer has been shut down.

The driver mistakenly marked a part of its image pageable instead of non-pageable.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: WIN32k.sys

STOP 0x0000D3, BF8C3217, 0x0000FF, 0x000000, 0x80509953

Steps I have taken so far to resolve the issue:
- I reformatted the drive and used the system restore disk. Issue remains.
- I removed 2 of the 4 sticks of memory. Issue remains.
- I replaced the 2 sticks I previously removed, then removed the other 2 sticks. Issue remains.
- I switched graphics cards with the one in another pc. Issue remains.
- I switched my raid card and cables with a brand new card/cables. Issue remains.
- I bought 2 new hard drives, formatted and imaged them with the factory system recovery disk. Issue remains.

I am not a hardware expert but it seems to me all that's left is either a problem with the BIOS, the motherboard or the processor. The PC is over 4 years old and it seems I cannot buy a new processor or mother board, and the manufacturer wont look at the pc even if I pay them. So my only options I can think of is to buy a used motherboard and, if that doesn't work, then a used processor. Before... Read more

Info from the Microsoft Debugging Tools Help file:

The DRIVER_PORTION_MUST_BE_NONPAGED bug check has a value of 0x000000D3. This indicates that the system attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.

The following parameters are displayed on the blue screen.

Parameter Description
1 Memory referenced
2 IRQL at time of reference
3 0: Read

1: Write

4 Address that referenced memory

If the driver responsible for the error can be identified, its name is printed on the blue screen and stored in memory at the location (PUNICODE_STRING) KiBugCheckDriver.

This bug check is usually caused by drivers that have incorrectly marked their own code or data as pageable.

Resolving the Problem
To begin debugging, use a kernel debugger to get a stack trace.

This is very similar to the STOP 0x0a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and to the STOP 0xD1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL errors

Most often the core Windows files (such as win32k.sys) aren't corrupted, but rather it's another driver that's misbehaving and has caused an error to occur in win32k.sys.

I'd suggest forcing IRQL verification in Driver Verifier, but would like another member to verify this before proceeding. What I'm suggesting is the stuff in the first CODE box in this link: http://www.techsupportforum.com/1760990-post9.html

This can lead to conflicts and blue screen crashes. If you need help finding driver updates for a certain device, please start a thread in Drivers - Windows 7 Forums instead of using software. Driver updates are not always necessary and some updates can actually decrease system stability rather than increase it, so it is usually better not to update unless a device or its driver is causing problems with the system. When it crashes this is on the error line :

Before this happens there a kind of shunting noise coming from the hard drive.

One of the times when I have tried to restart it today it kept making the shunting noises and then said 'Error loading operating system'.

Hi Linked78

. . . and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums.

See if you can post more of the first few lines of the error [there's likely a "stop" error code] - Also, see if you can boot into Safe Mode, and can check the related error messages in Event Viewer [Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer]. If you find helpful info in there, let us know.

If you recently changed anything, adding or subtracting programs or hardware, let us know that, too.

Such errors can be signs of hardware trouble, so a good start would be to run some diagnostics. Some major vendors include built-in diagnostics & provide diagnostics on "Resource CDs", so check your system's documentation for that. Generic diagnostics are available for memory (http://www.memtest.org) and hard drives (http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287)

If you can't boot into Safe Mode, definitely try to see what the diagnostics come up with [most diagnostics run from either bootable CDs or floppy diskettes].

That should get your troubleshooting started.
. . . Gary

Hello. Im back with another issue on the old Latitude D520.

I am using the experimental Java 8 on Xp, update 91, yes, i know, its experimental.
Anyways, i was just trying to get Miencraft to work on the old Machine {I was suprised it even installed}
It launched fine countless times before without a blue screen {even though it crashed due to Java errors}
But this is the VERY FIRST TIME i have had a blue screen on WIndows XP. Ever. And no, Minecraft dosent use up all the computer resources, about half.

So i had a few Chrome tabs open, and opened Minecraft to try and troubleshoot it. See if i can get it to work. Ive done this like 20 times without a blue screen.
Then all of a sudden i get a blue screen. I missed the error codes, sadly, but one was 0x00000005, i managed to catch that one. I got like 3 or 4 error codes.
Apparently the error was in Win32k.sys, and i went in total freak out. Yes, Win32k.sys, ouch.
Im going to try to roll back my Java to the last stable version for Xp, see if that helps.

General Troubleshooting of STOP Messages
If you can’t find a specific reference to your problem, running through the following checklist stands a good chance of resolving the problem for you. This checklist is also usually the best approach to troubleshooting some specific Stop messages, such as 0x0A and 0x50.
1. Examine the “System” and “Application” logs in Event Viewer for other recent errors that might give further clues. To do this, launch EventVwr.msc from a Run box; or open “Administrative Tools” in the Control Panel then launch Event Viewer.
2. If you’ve recently added new hardware, remove it and retest.
3. Run hardware diagnostics supplied by the manufacturer.
4. Make sure device drivers and system BIOS are up-to-date.
5. However, if you’ve installed new drivers just before the problem appeared, try rolling them back to the older ones.
6. Open the box and make sure all hardware is correctly installed, well seated, and solidly connected.
7. Confirm that all of your hardware is on the Hardware Compatibility List. If some of it isn’t, then pay particular attention to the non-HCL hardware in your troubleshooting.
8. Check for viruses.
9. Investigate recently added software.
10. Examine (and try disabling) BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
The error message is... Read more

I'm having this problem since the parts for my pc came in. First with Windows 8.1 and now with 7 aswell. I ran CPU and memory tests like prime95 and Memtest86 without any luck.

My drivers should be up to date, I downloaded the newest drivers in Asrock's website. The problem happens when I'm playing games, sometimes I can play for hours without any problems. At first I thought it was a hardware problem since the games would freeze without any blue screen but today after running the pc without problems with Windows 7 I got a BSOD.

Also, today for the first time I got the BSOD while browsing the web, before it always happened while I was playing a game.

I also found an old thread where the guy has the same problems as me, the screen would turn black for a few seconds and he also had the same RAM.

My specs:
Motherboard: Asrock Z75 Pro3
CPU: Intel i7 3770
RAM: Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600mhz
PSU: Corsair TX850
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Graphics: Intel HD 4000 (I'm using my processor as graphics for now)

I ran two programs to analyze the dump files, WhoCrashed and Blue Screen View.
Who Crashed shows this: http://i.imgur.com/jAF8jjL.png
Blue Screen View shows this: http://i.imgur.com/oL6Nu6E.png

For now I disabled Turbo Boost in my BIOS settings. I also ran a program called Driver Reviver to check the drivers and it tells me that there's a quite a few outdated drivers, but I don't know if can really trust this program.

My wife's 2 year old HP TouchSmart TX2-1027ca notebook recently started blue screening. It started more intermittently, but more recently it seems to happen in as short as 20 minutes, and even sometimes on startup.

I have run the new MemTest86+ all night and it found no errors, however I know that the system has shared memory, so it is possible that it could just be in the area that is reserved for the video cards.

I have fresh reloaded Windows 7 Home Premium, and I still had a few blue screens since then. I would suspect that this means that it is a hardware issue, but perhaps not, I could be wrong.

I won't speculate too much on my guesses, but hopefully you can provide some useful insights.

I currently am running no anti virus, as I'm trying to eliminate possible causes.

Your suspicions are probably correct.

Some of the minidumps blame graphics drivers, others simply blame hardware.

First try updating your graphics driver:

Not everytime, but occasionally when I exit and even more rarely open a program, my entire system crashes in a blue screen with the Win32k error. I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting this, so I'd appreciate any help you guys can give.

A:BSOD when exiting programs, Win32k.sys blue screen

Host Name: CHOCO-PC
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
OS Version: 6.1.7600 N/A Build 7600

You really need to update the Windows system files, but you won't be able to do that because of the counterfeit installation you have running.

Counterfeit installations such as yours contains heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable.

My recommendation is to start with a clean slate, and install a genuine version of Windows. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable. Once you are running a genuine Windows installation, and are still experiencing BSOD's, we will be happy to help you solve them.

Hi there

I have been having persistent crashing problems with my around-2-month old Dell Studio 540 PC where it will almost daily just randomly crash, sometimes with a BSOD, sometimes just freeze.

2.66ghz Intel Quad Core processor
4gb RAM
750gb hard drive
Windows Vista Home Premium

When it freezes, the windows in use (IE, Windows Live Mail etc., nothing out of the ordinary) will remain visible and the mouse and everything will lock up. The music that's on (I use WMP most of the time) will freeze and continue coming out of the speakers as if a scratched record. The only thing to do then is to press the power button to reboot it. It will stay like this, frozen, until I do.

Dell are being typically useless and can't help as the Boot Utitlity and BIOS tests return no errors (is there not more to IT support than running tests? Apparently not.) They can't even decide if it's a hardware or software issue. Chocolate kettles.

When it does return a BSOD, the code I got tonight is:

STOP: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x95F53174, 0x8D0E2C68, 0x00000000)
win32k.sys - Address 95F53174 base at 95E80000, Datestamp 498F9E96)

Now, the only major thing I have changed or installed since it was new is Norton Internet Security 2009, which is patched and up to date, but the only thing different about what runs in the background. The PC came with McAfee preinstalled which I removed as I used to find it hideously slow on my old XP machine. What are the chances of this hav... Read more

A:win32k.sys Blue Screen crashes - Norton Security and/or hardware?

Can anyone please please help me with this? Does the fact that whether I get a BSOD or just a lockup, the mouse freezing indicates a hardware problem?

Is it worth uninstalling Norton and seeing if it becomes more stable?

Somewhere I saw an option to restore the PC to Dell factory defaults. Is this worth doing, and installing a different AV product?

Thanks in advance

Hey guys!I've posted in many other forums but I haven't received much of a response at all! Hopefully I will will get one here! My problem is:I was scanning my computer with Malwarebytes on my user account. I told the rest of my family not to log on to their accounts as I am scanning, but another member of my family forgot and logged onto their user account, and came told me that the screen is just black. There was nothing I could do so I held the button on the processor to shut it down. I waited for a bit and then turned it back on. The processor started up but then it shut down and a blue screen appeared! I have posted what the Blue Screen shows below. I have noticed that when I restart and it appears again, some of the information sometimes changes, like the file windows says is causing the problem! What the Blue Screen shows:"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ati3duag.dll <- this bit sometimes changes to something else when restartedPAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA <- This bit sometimes changes when restartedIf this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. A:Blue Screen - anti3duag.dll & win32k.sys - WinXP - Dell Dimension 9150

Hi .

Do this...Start/Run...type msinfo32 and hit Enter. Click Components/Display. Post what's listed in the right screen for the 1st, 3d, and 4th lines.

Do you have your Dell drivers CD?

Don't do any of the following yet . I need to figure out the correct drivers you need first.

The ati3duag.dll error...should be your video drivers. They are probably damaged, maybe not. In any case, I suggest uninstalling them (using device manager)...then running the chkdsk /r command...then reinstalling the video drivers.

Start/Run...type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter. Click Display Adapter, double-click the specific item now displayed. Click Driver tab, click the Uninstall button.

To run chkdsk /r....Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (exactly as shown here) and hit Enter. Type Y in response to new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system.

The command will execute...then boot into XP.

Everytime I close AIM my computer briefly hangs, then goes to the infamous BSOD, saying that an error in win32k.sys has ocurred, and something about a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

This only started happening after I installed a new Radeon 9800 Pro and has some trouble with the drivers. At the same time, I also had to update the drivers for my Creative Audigy MP3, which has ALWAYS been causing me driver conflicts and errors.

Have any of you guys heard of this problem, or am I alone here?

Lately I have had a lot of Trojans and Worms trying to get into my computer. ESET has stopped most of them but has been a little slow in getting the updates for new infections. I can post my NOD32 infection log if you need it. Here are my problems:

1) When Shutting Down or Restarting my computer, a window pops up saying that the Fax Monitor is not shutting down. I have never used the Fax, I have no Dial-Up line attached and I even tried disabling the Fax in Admin. Still happens. When I select End this Program Now, it appears to end then the screen goes to blue and won't restart or shut down. This is all new behavior. My computer is 3 years old and I am using the same things that I started with. I have not installed any new software recently.

2) Many times the TV's that indicate communication over the LAN are now on constantly. At times they still do break showing that they are working right. Still, this mostly on is a change in the normal behavior of them. Also, some times when I am doing something such as saving a notepad file and have the LAN on, I get the hourglass and have to wait until the TV's stop for the save to complete. The mouse even doesn't work when this happens.

3) A very unusual thing happened to some of my Shortcuts on the Desktop. The go to and file names changed from starting C: to starting D:. I only have 1 HDD and it is C:. There is a Floppy drive A:, a CD drive E... Read more

The problems I had were the result of several Trojans and especially Worms that the Anti-Malware programs had a hard time updating to catch them. Some of them are below. I believe that the ones that caused the problem are here. The problem has been cleared by ESET Anti-Malware and I did not suffer a HDD or information loss. The worms were the ones that kept my LAN running and wouldn't close when I shut down. Hopes this helps and thanks for looking.

A:Blue Screen For Long Time

Is it a solid blue screen with no writing on it, or is there some message on the screen?Blue screens are often called 'Blue Screens of Death' (or BSOD) by users, and 'Stop Messages' by Microsoft. We need to know the exact message you see when you get the blue screen. We especially are looking for a set of letters and numbers about half way down the page that take this format:0x0000008eThis is usually followed by a set of 4 simliar numbers in parenthasis. For now we just need the first set of letter and numbers (before the numbers in the parenthasis). This will help you diagnose why you are getting the stop messages.

I bought a brand new laptop in January, a HP6000 series. I noticed a few days after I got it, that I got the blue screen of death(BSD), I was using files from external hard drive which I had previously used on my old laptop, which this problem never occured. I didnt think anything of it, and just restarted the computer. I am currently in the Marines and deployed, so I have no tech support. In the last week, every time I play MP3 files I get BSD, I am able to play video from the c: and f: drives, and do every other action without a problem. I scanned for viruses and spyware, and took care of those using StopSign Anti-Virus. Now I still am getting the BSD from MP3 files, within 10 minutes of play, and win32k.sys shows up in the message. I'm not very computer literate with programming, what is this file, and what steps can I take to correct it without reformating the hard drives?

When you get the blue screen, be sure to post the technical details on the blue screen including the STOP error. Write it down and post it back here so we can pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Hello.I am running Windows 7 Enterprise Edition. I seem to have a problem with my computer. I woke up this morning and turned on my computer, it moved significantly slower than just the other night, then suddenly a series of my startup programs stopped working and closed, Skype and BitTorrent, all before the computer had really finished booting up. Feeling concerned I ran both a Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes scan to see if anything turned up. In the middle of the scans my computer blue screened, something that has never happened before.
Worried, I restarted in Safe Mode and ran the scans there. Microsoft Security Essentials turned up nothing while Malwarebytes only turned up this:

Hello all. Can someone please help. I have a dell Optiplex 360 running XP professional with SP3. It is taking any where from 5 to 10 minutes to boot and when I try to run a program it takes just as long to get it running. I have gotten the blue screen of death 3 or 4 times in the last few months. I was sent to this forum from the security forum as the computer is free from viruses and malware. FYI I do have the OS disks and drivers that came the the computer. All my information is also backed up on external drives.
Any help with this issue is appreciated.
