I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,In Feb 2015 I bought a new Ideapad Z710 20250 1TB 16GB ram with win 8.1 64 preinstalled.  I always kept the original partitions being C (system OS) & D.I had a OneKey recovery/back-up in place both on local hdd & external drive being a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB.  Antivirus was a licensed fully operational AVG. Everything went smoothly until a given day in June when after a regular start-up I got a blue screen with error code 0x0000001 and the message that some vital files were missing & corrupt as well, that it wasn't possible to connect to any recovery media even when the external drive was properly connected.  Restart & Novo button always resulted in a slow looped return to the same blue screen.  The only options I could still access from the Novo menu were bios & boot order (changing priority boot to ext drive didn't help a thing).  Since then I haven't been able anymore to enter windows mode.  The other regular repair/refresh/cmd etc options were no longer available or accessible. Purchased recovery software such as NeoSmart's EasyRe & Numus Software's Data-Recov-Boot-disk both managed after a very lengthy & 'clunky' process to access the system but all repair failed or was claimed impossible & recovery of data scrambled or again impossible.  EsayRe reported repeatedly the same broken/corrupted file records during the dos repair process (I forgot to take note of the exact details). Today... A:Ideapad Z710 hard disk failure: repair or replace?

Hi VerDim,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

By the sound, This seems like a Bad HDD, I strongly suggest a Replacement via a warranty claim And this will also include a Recovery CD together with it.
You can call Lenovo Technical Team to get assistance with the HDD replacement

But If you want to really check the HDD first.
You can try running Seagate tools to check the HDD health and functionality.

Download the SeaTools for DOS ISO file
Use 7-Zip to open the SeaTools for DOS ISO file.
Extract the SeaTools.ima file to your hard drive.
Rename the SeaTools.ima file to SeaTools.img.
Use Image Writer for Windows to write the SeaTools.img image file to a USB drive on Windows.
Now you can boot off of this USB drive and run SeaTools for DOS.

A couple of years ago I replaced the 1TB SSHD that came with the laptop with a 240GB SSD but the computer store I bought the laptop from didn't have caddies in stock so I use it as an external HDD. I called yesterday and they have a fitting caddy now but the tech support guy told me that there's some sort of an issue with Z710s and caddies so they don't want to install it and I've also read online about some bootloop issues that people got when they tried on their own.  I really want to use my 1TB SSHD instead of the optical drive so I'll get full speed because there's some sort of a problem with my USB 3.0 ports and the hard drive keeps disconnecting all the time so I've been using it on 2.0 Does anyone have any experience or tips? I don't want to buy the caddy and they find out it doesn't work. Thanks in advance!

You can go here:

Change "By Part Number" to "By Product info" by clicking by the triangle in the grey area.  Then put in your serial number.  Dont post your serial number here.  Then you should be able to find part number your computer came with.  With that being said you dont have to buy a lenovo drive.

Hi thereI got an a Idea Pad z710 , but the box is isnt here 'so I can't see the exact specification, so here are some of the setup  Intel i7 4710, , ram 16g, hybrid 1tb + 8gb flash HD and FHD dysplay I instaled An a Samsung Evo III250gb in a caddy replacing the DWD. Luckily, no troubs, as a lot of guys there suffering not reading ot so. Its detectable and useful without need to replace the original HHHD. My question is is it posible to disable either the HHHD or the SSD by BIOS, cuz I couldent find such feature, but saw it on another comps. I see the last BIOS update is from late 2014 nad I bought it in the mid 2015, so , I gues it should be the last one (not checking it exactly). Edit: BIOS verssion: 7FCN96WWI puted 2 OS on both devices, but when boot it asks which to start and when load, the another one is visible.Boot priority is set to UEFI firs So, I,m intrusted is it possible to turn on/of both devices. I mean to put different OS on both and runnig that on on the enabled device. And swiching them again when want the anotrhr OS.

A:Z710 disable hard drive

Hi Irritated ,

Greetings.

As far as i know the BIOS feature to disable under a hardware tab is not available for this models BIOS.
But since you had it on the DVD SATA , there may be offered option to do it.

All you need is to change UEFI to legacy so that you may change Boot priority and set the machine instead to primarily boot on a particular drive, under exit tab you would be able to change OS optimization to the OS you want as initial boot.

Ideally on a dual boot machine , within windows you can also change default boot if you open msconfig under boot tab to set default (option 3 ).

Then change timeout on the boot to make it faster . Doing this would allow you to have both drives active for data transfer and access at anytime instead of disabling then in the BIOS where you can no loner use the other drive.

Hope this answered your query.
Update us.

I purchased my Z710 Laptop 2-3 years ago. Currently I seem to suffer from thermal throttling on both the CPU(i7-4700mq)(85C) and GPU(gt-745m)(75C). I tried cleaning dust from the fan and heatsink but that did not seem to solve the issue. I tried to underclock CPU down to 2.4GHz but still reaches 85C and GPU still throttles as well. So I am thinking of two options:1) Buy a laptop cooling pad and put it under the exposed underside of the laptop and hope that it can cool it down.2)Replace the thermal paste of the CPU and GPU (boy oh boy how sketchy this one is, but exciting at the same time!) and hope for the best? I am looking for your advice on which of these I should choose or if there is anything I am missing? Thank you in advance!

I'm trying to Install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can't even get my laptop to boot from external media. From the InsydeH20 Setup Utility, I've so far disabled Secure Boot, set Boot Mode to UEFI, enabled USB Boot, enabled PXE Boot to LAN, and set my EFI boot order to 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4, 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6, then 3) Windows Boot Manager (no other options). I'm not actually trying to boot from a network, I just want to boot from the onboard DVD drive or my USB DVD drive. When I boot with these settings, I get the error: EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (...) boot failed, then a similar one for IPv6, then it boots to Windows. Why can't I boot from DVD or USB? Another thing I've tried is setting Boot Mode to Legacy Support and Boot Priority to Legacy First (with Secure Boot disabled) which results in my laptop booting to straight to Windows even when USB ODD is first in the boot order. Please tell me how to boot to a Linux DVD or USB on this machine! This was major purchase for me, and if I can't install Linux on it, this laptop is totally useless for me. Please respond.

My Lenovo ideapad Z710, after a year of use started telling me the battery was not the correct battery.  I thought the battery might have died.  I eventually bought a replacement battery.  The new battery gets the same message.  My wife has a different model but uses the same battery.  My OEM battery does not function in her machine but the new one does.  So it appears that my machine has a problem recognizing the proper battery.  Once I accept the message, the machine boots and runs fine plugged in.  The battery does not charge so I assume the machine is protecting itself from improper battery.  The new battery is a DR.BATTERY Notebook battery with a two year warranty.  When I was shopping for the battery, there were numerous suppliers and of course they all claimed to have only the highest quality that meets or exceeds the original battery specs. Does anyone know a solution?  Could it be a software problem?  I had assumed it was a hardware problem.  The computer works fine as desktop machine, but with no battery it is pretty worthless as a portable.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Z710 Laptop is not booting to Windows and displaying initial error, I suggest you to access the BIOS menu and change the first boot device to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and check if the issue persists. To access BIOS menu turn OFF the computer and then press the NOVO button which is located beside the power button and select BIOS utility, then under boot menu change the HDD to first boot device under boot order. Now click on F10 to save the changes.

Do post us back if the issue persists

Hi to evreyone! So recently I bought a brand new Lenovo Z710 (i7-4700mq, intel hd 4600 and nvidia gt745m). I then installed windows 8.1 (genuine) and all the drivers on the cd that came with the machine. But it seems there is a big problem with the graphics card. Nvidia gt745 seems like its not there. The Geforce Experience and nvidia control panel fail to recognize it, although it's there on Windows Driver Manager. When I try to load a game (WOW) it crashes on the loading screen. "Display driver has stopped responding..." bubble appears and a minute or so afterwards, there is a bsod. The game works on the integrated card (intel hd 4600) when nvidia is disabled or its driver is uninstalled.I tried reinstalling the drivers, downloading and installing the recent ones, removing all graphic drivers and reintalling them in different order, tried safe mode, changed some bios settings, but still nothing happened.Could this be any kind of driver compatibility issue or simply a windows thing, or is it a hardware problem? Could the nvidia be faulty or the laptop itself? I want to try anything before turning it back to where I bought it for a look... So your ideas will be vastly appreciated. Thanks!

Can this laptop be run from a 24V supply, too?Or is that voltage too high?(Two 12V batteries i series)

A:Power supply for IdeaPad Z710

The battery voltage and power supply voltage have nothing to do with each other. It has integrated voltage regulation modules that convert the voltage to the required voltages to power the device and simultaneously drive the battery. The voltage has to match with what the input is designed for, and that is 20V in the Z710. The amperage can basically be higher than required as the devices request an amperage and use how much they need (for the Z710 type 80AK, there were three power supplies: 20V on each, but with either 3.25, 4.5 or 6.75 Amps for 65, 90 or 130 Watts power output), but a differing voltage (unless your device is made for special fast charging types oder mostly USB Type-C, which most laptops aren't) will most likely fry your motherboard/batteries. By the way, the batteries in your Z710 run at either 14.4 or 14.8 Volts, not 12V.

A:Lenovo Ideapad Z710 - No Bootable Device

Good day and welcome to the community.Sorry you're having difficulty.
The messages you're seeing mean that your hard drive is non-bootable, either a hardware failure or the Windows boot "stuff" is corrupt. When that happens, the BIOS tries to step through boot-up options, and often the last is an attempt to boot from a network server (via PXE boot).

If you boot your machine to its BIOS, is the HDD even showing on the Startup tab? If not, it's most likely a true hardware issue.Regards.

Hey, I have an afterglow headset for gaming. It has a line out 3mm headphone jack on it, and a USB.
Usually, the USB controls the Mic, and the headphone jack controls the audio. But when I plug it in, the sound is coming through the USB (Chat volume), unless I plug it into another power source, like a wall charger for phones. Than the sound will come through the headphone/Line out jack, allowing me to use the Bass boost feature. My brother has the same headset, and it does the same on my computer, and I have no idea why. The sound sounds like garbage coming through the USB. Also my laptop only has one Line out jack. I think the Line in and Line out jacks are combined into one. I don't know if that is messing it up.
So when I have the USB and Line out plugged into my laptop, the sound level is controlled by moving the adjuster to the "Chat" volume, rather than the "Game volume". But if I plug the USB into a wall wart, and the headphone jack into the laptops line out jack, it's normal and controlled by the game volume adjuster on the headset. But than the MIC won't work since it's through the USB.
Any ideas??

A:IdeaPad Z710 video upgrade options?

Hi rbettle  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Amongst most laptops currently available GPU are built in from factory to have it fixed on the motherboard therefore not upgradable which includes Z710 .

Offered upgradable parts are shown on the hardware manual for reference on users doing upgrades but do not include GPU. FRU list of motherboards also on the same manual.

Availability of NVIDIA graphics models varies by supply as product specification show on machine variants (different machine number for each variants).

Last week I swapped out the HDD with a new Kingston SSD in my Ideapad Z710 and I ordered a HDD caddy.Everything ran fine with the SSD but after installing the caddy I keep running into a bootloop (Lenovo startup screen keeps splashing). The HDD is formatted so there are no boot partitions left on it and I have the boot priority set to the SSD. All changes I've tried making in the BIOS did not help. The only way to boot the computer is clicking the Onekey recovery button and booting through the Boot menu, which strangely only shows the SSD. Has anyone else encountered this problem and would be able to help?

I would not have bothered making an account here if I could have found a fix otherwise. The battery is not charging AND it is not detected. I want to stress this because I have seen a million and one webpages for batteries that were plugged in but not charging. Mine is not detected. I have checked my power settings, I have done a power drain (take out batter and adapter, hold power button), I have restarted, I have looked for updates, and I have uninstalled the two battery things in the device manager and restarted again. I did NOT do battery gauage reset because the battery is not detected (I have Windows 8, so Energy Manager rather than Power Manager). I have not touched the BIOS because I'm wary of anything else going wrong. I bought this laptop in December. It is quite new, still under warranty, and even though I use it every day, it is still good and not bogged down or worn down in any way. I have had multiple problems since buying it, even a few right out of the box (shame on you, Lenovo), all of which I was able to fix myself. I can't imagine why I would have whatever problem I am having right now. For a short while after this problem initially occurred, I was still able to unplug the laptop and move to another outlet. Hi, I bought the Idepad Z710 model with 16 gb of ram (default) and the seller told me that the notebook has 4 memory slots ram and upgrade is possible up to 32gb. I install and run the CPU-Z program to collect hardware information and the program confirmed that the laptop has 4 slots. I opened the notebook but I identified only 2 slots for memory ram. I wonder if the laptop really has 4 memory slots ram and upgrade to 32GB is possible. Additional information: the CPU is the Intel I7 47700MQ. Thanks in advance!

Your seller must be thinking that he is selling a desktop. Which do you trust, your seller, CPU-Z or your eyes? Refer to page 41 of the hardware maintenance manual there are only TWO slots available.

I recently purchased an external ASUS monitor and hooked it up today. I also just today started getting a Blue Screen of Death with the following message at the bottom:"Stop code: VIDEO SCHEDULER INTERNAL ERROR"I've never experienced this problem until I hooked up the monitor, and the problem seems to go away when I disconnect it.Thanks!

Hello, my laptop was original with CPU  i5 4210M and I was thinking to upgrade CPU, I saw already here that sume users did upgradeI saw that possible upgrade is i7 4700MQ, I saw that it is in CPU list of this modelI desided to do it, found CPU in ebay and boght itI have removed i5 and put i7 4700MQ , every thing looks ok, but no, problems start after the changeI saw that battery doesnt charge, and when laptop is with battery  then power consumation is from battery only, even it is pluged in AC adapter. I saw that new CPU is 47W, so may be power adapter is not ok, original adapter is 65W,when I remove battery, it seems laptop work good, but when I start Aida burning test CPU is on 100% but frequency is under 2.4Ghz which is maximum frequency. It seems power is not enoought. And other thing is if I put AC adapter 65W and battery then CPU aways is working on 0.79Ghz, when I remove AC adapter and laptop runs on battery then frequency go to 2.4GhzI saw that maximum adapter for this model is 135W so I thought that I need this one since i7 4700MQ is most powerful processorI bought one 135W but I have exactly same problem as 65W also what is strange I try 90W AC adapter, it is working, on battery it charge it but if I start Aida burning test CPU not work on high frequency level.135W Charger is 135W, Delta ADL135NDC3A 20V6.75A adapter from year 2014, but 90W is from 2018 It is strange that I can't find simular problem when I google. Is someo... Good day and welcome to the community. While your machine does have discrete graphics, the dGPU is integrated (i.e. soldered) onto the system board. It is not a socketed chip or daughtercard. Very few laptops offered any kind of dGPU upgradeability.

Hope this helps to clarify.Regards.
