I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've just received my Laptop back from repair and all seems to be well, I had my screen panel replaced, gpu replaced(from 570m to 670m), new hard drive and CPU fan. However the problem I seem to be having is that internal speakers are completely not working.

I can see that bolume bar in for my internal speakers is actually changing but there is no sound. My system is not muted (unless there's some secret button I'm missing out on) No matter what i try it seems that sound will not work through my internal speakers, I've plugged in my Razer headset(Kraken) that works with my other computer but is not even detected when plugged in the Audio jacks of my laptop(Doesnt even pick up the microphone) and this did work before I sent it out for repair. Sound only works through HDMI output into a TV/Monitor.

Now I'm not sure if this some software configuration that I have to do or something physical with the hardware but I would prefer to not have to send it back as it would take a month to get back to me and also the repair company states that if the problem is due to software then they will charge.

I assume it's a conflict that Realtek HD audio manager is having or something but none of my devices show up on the RealtekHD Audio Manager nor do I get a pop up when a device is detected(which is what normally would of happened)

Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus.
Basic Specs:

DV7-4060us

Windows 7/64bit

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon 4250

I have tried the following fixes gleaned from other forum posts on similar forum posts:

Uninstalling and reinstalling IDT drivers - didn't work.

HP driver 'recovery manager' to install 'original' IDT audio codecs - didn't work.

Unistalled ATI Video Drivers , and reinstalled them - didn't work

System Restore to a week ago - didn't work.

I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.

Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

A:no sound through tv via hdmi, sound plays through laptop speakers (idt

So you're trying to get audio to play on your TV from your laptop? Since you said the video is fine it's obviously not the video drivers. It sounds like the sound output is configured wrong. I don't think it would be labeled as HDMI. HDMI is just DVI with HD Audio. Try altering your sound settings to see what you can get.

Audio is a very difficult thing to diagnose and fix.

So I've got a problem,I changed my case 2 days ago and everything went great, all working as it should be.Up until an hour ago, when the lid got stuck in one of the little clips so after a quick bang it went in.But then I lost my picture on both monitors.
So I went to investigate,I ended up moving the GPU over to the other 16x slot and it is now fine.
but since then I've lost all sound through either the front or rear jacks,It is saying that the speakers are not connected.I've done all the usual checks,as in default devises, drivers.Everything I can think of I have done.I have tried a new cable, and tested through both of my phones and the speakers work fine.I've also tried a few sets of headphones in both jacks. There is a faint hiss sound when I turn the speakers on,that has just started.
I have managed to get sound through my tv via HDMI,but every time,I go into audio manager and lets say change from soft to hard,I loose the sound again, and have to set the HDMI as default again.this too has just started.
I'm using the on board realtek audio sound card ,on an Asus p8z77-lx motherboard.
Just a quick note when I plug in the jack, there is no beep and the pop up screen does not appear as normal.
To me it is pointing towards a motherboard problem, with the 2 problems happening together.Any help would be great.

A:No sound through speakers.Jack not being detected.HDMI sound only?

Hiyya Paul mate sounds like (no pun intended) that thump dislodged something on the board just carefully move the I/O output block and see if there is any movement, could be something a simple as dry joint but which is going to be hard to find and fix.

If you have some warranty and I know it is a PITA having to reef it all out again but.....

Personally I have the P8Z77-V and I just stuck an Asus Xonar DG card in the thing and there is no comparison really and you get one heck of a control centre. Not expensive I don't know about where you are but out here $35 so both my Ivy and Sandy Bridges have them.

Hi guys!

I've been struggling with this problem since I got my computer, a little over a year ago.

I've tried everything, but can't figure out how to get sounds from my pc speakers and HDMI at the same time. It's really annoying having to change the primary output multiple times a day (I watch a lot of movies using HDMI-cable to my tv). Might sound like a little problem to you, but I'm becoming obsessed with this

My soundcard is some kind of a Realtek HD -thingy, if that helps.

Any advice would be appreciated

A:Sound from HDMI and pc speakers at the same time

That is the way it works. You can only have one "default playback device" - either your Speakers (PC sound) or the HDMI.

I've seen other posts about this, but don't recall seeing any way around this.

I have the same issue in windows 10 home 64 bit-
HDMI monitor no speakers-no sound from anywhere when connected?

When I right click on the volume control, the options it shows are:
open volume control
playback devices
recording devices
sounds
volume control options

It does not give me a properties option.

Then I went to control panel and searched for sound. Then I saw the screen below. There was a Digital Audio as well and I clicked 'Don't use this device(disable)' on it by mistake and clicked OK.

Now, I only have Speakers option. How do I get the Digital Audio option back in here? I think that will solve my original problem.

I'm having some trouble with my laptop's sound. Every few minutes, it sounds like the audio skips and buzzes for less than a second. It sounds like interference or something. I was certain it was a fault with the speakers, but the problem exists when listening on headphones and even on the TV connected through HDMI. Also, it happens in Windows Media Player, Adobe Flash, or anything that has audio. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

The problem is not your PC but your TV and how it handles HDMI audio. There is nothing we can do for this, it is strictly an issue with your TV and how it routes audio internally (or to external devices).

I cannot figure this out for s#%t. Thanks for any help that yall can provide.

The problem is usually with the video as it controls the HDMI audio. If its not detecting or properly detecting the HDMI cable connection then you can have the problem you have.

Reinstall the Video drivers (or install the latest driver for the video) and see if that helps.

My friend's laptop has a weird problem. It was running vista fine, sound worked and everything. One day, the internal speakers randomly stopped emitting any sound. However, they do make sound effect sounds while the computer is booting... so they're not broken.

I figured it was a software problem, so he just reformatted and installed 7. Same problem. Makes the booting up noises, "Gamers Republic... BOOM", obviously coming from the internal speakers. Once into windows, in the HD control panel, it shows as something being plugged into the green analog input, but nothing is plugged in. So, no matter what, windows is detecting that he has speakers plugged into his laptop so it refuses to use his internal speakers.

His only option is to use headphones / external speakers.

Drivers are up to date.

Any ideas?

I just reinstalled Windows XP, and I've updated it to SP3. My audio hardware is a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS card. I reinstalled all the device drivers from the Dell resource CD as well as downloaded the latest driver for the audio card, plus I got the AC-97 codec as well. No sound comes from the speakers, which are hooked up correctly. When I run diagnostics and tests, Windows seems to miss the fact that it's not coming through the speakers. I know there's no problem with the hardware, as it functions just fine when I run linux. The strange thing is that the sound works fine when I plug the headphones into the jack.

I had originally thought it was the Multimedia Audio Controller problem so many other people seemed to have when reinstalling Windows, but after installing the Dell drivers and updating the Sound Blaster one, the Multimedia Audio Controller isn't in the "Other Drivers" tab with a big question mark next to it, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. Then someone told me he had a similar problem and was able to fix it by going into Setup and enabling audio, which I tried, but it was already enabled. So I'm stumped. Any ideas?

I'm running a Dell Dimension 8400, with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS card, Windows XP currently Service Pack 3.

A:Sound works from headphones but not speakers

I'd hazard the guess that the problem still lies in the audio settings under XP inasmuch that the mic-in/headphone-out setting differs to mic-in/speakers out. Don't know your hardware but found on mine that I had to use a different audio (mini) jack-out for the speakers and then change audio settings. Do you have some additional output-mini jacks?

Hey everyone, new to this site, I've got a bit of a problem with my audio with my new installation of Windows 7. Previously I had Vista installed, and had no problems with my Realtek HD audio. Installed Windows 7 everything looked good, then realized my Sony A/V receiver model SA-WCT100 was not outputting my movie collection in surround 5.1 like it use to using Vista. I figured, that?s cool, probably need to install ac3filter_1_51a, I had to in Vista, and it worked a treat when I enabled SPDIF pass through. I guess I should mention I?m using HDMI all the way through, from my PC to the receiver, from the receiver to the LCD. Well, that didn't fix it, everything still plays in stereo. After scratching my head and clicking here and there, I finally found a little tab in the sound settings of my Realtek HDMI setting called 'Custom'. I selected it, it said to enable AC3, DTS, etc click this box will require a restart. I said awesome, sounds like just what I need. I clicked, and rebooted. I went into WMC, and setup my audio wizard again, and selected 5.1, and tested, and this time it reported 5.1 on my Sony receiver as before it only showed 2 channels (Stereo). I played some of my DVD rips, and bam my DVD rips were playing surround sound again. I was like that was easy enough. I went to test my Blu-Ray rips that I had converted to WMV HD using TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0, and the video started to play, and I was like, wheres the damn sound. I noticed on the receiver, it didn't r... Audio doesn't work at all through front and back audio jacks, only HDMI. I only get static from the audio jacks.

A:HDMI Sound Works but Audio Jack Doesn't

Possibly defective front panel headphone/mic connector/cable or problem with case front panel. Most cases have both an HD audio and an AC97 connector for the front panel, that plugs into the motherboard. Normally, the HD Audio should be used. If you are using the HD Audio connection, try the AC97. If you are using the AC97, use the HD Audio instead.

If neither of the connectors change anything, and the audio works OK with the rear connections (with no front panel connection to the motherboard), the problem would appear to be in the case front panel assembly.

Hello.

I've got a Thinkpad T430s (Windows 7) here and it's acting strangely. Namely, if I play a clip through the laptop's speakers, I hear no sound, but when I plug the headphones, everything works nice and neat.
One thing I noticed, is that computer actually recognises the sound, because the volume mixer/application, at the lower right/tray, and it's volume bar shows me the green indicators jumping up and down, as the music plays.

Of course I've tried reinstalling the drivers, I've uninstalled the audio device in Device Manager and restarted the computer. And yes, the obvious things are also checked - nothing (the applications) is muted in the volume mixer, default device is correct under playback devices.

Some have reported on the web, that it might help to use toothpick for example and "un-jam the sensor", but that didn't help either.

I've also tried booting up the newest Linux Mint (has pretty good multimedia support) from the USB and I heard no sound through speakers.

So I'm out of ideas here. It looks more and more like a hardware fault, but how can I be absolutely sure?
Thanks for helping out,

I recently purchased Altec-Lansing speakers (model VS4121) for my HP desktop PC (running Vista). When I plug the single green wire from the speakers into the green speaker plug in the back of the PC tower, the sound from all applications doesn't work, except for Windows Media Player. It doesn't work with YouTube, iTunes, Quicktime, or anything else -- the video I can see though. When I unplug the speakers and just use a headset connected to the headset jack in the front of the PC tower, the sound works again for all applications through the headset. I assume that since the sound works for WMP with the speakers plugged in, and it works for all applications without the speakers plugged in but with the headset plugged in, there's nothing wrong with the speakers, the sound card, or the audio mixer, right? Is there a driver problem or some sort of conflict with these speakers and Windows Vista? Do I need to download new HP audio drivers? It seems very odd that the sound only works with WMP.

when I do a sound test, I can hear the audio in the speakers. However when I try to play a midi file, or a DVD, the movie plays, but NO SOUND.

Usually if the sound test works, the audio plays in the speakers. So I am not sure what is happening here.

The History of the issue:

I Upgraded my emachine from Vista to Windows 7. I went to the Emachine website to update the audio drivers. The drivers that Emachine has are outdate.

I went to the Realteck website and downloaded the newest drivers.

I noticed in the device manager that their is a NVIDIA High Definition Audio, and a Realtek High Definition Audio listed.

Ok, so here is the setup.

I have a HDMI Visio TV plugged into the Emachine. Audio workes fine if I disable Realtek High Definition Audio in the device manager.

Here is the big problem: When I plug a simple set of speakers (that work on other computers) into the back of the computer, the audio will not work on the speakers.

If I enable the Realtek audio in device manger, I can get the Realteck audio options screen. Where Realtek sees that I plugged the speakers in the rear of the machine.

when I do a sound test, I can hear the audio in the speakers. However when I try to play a midi file, or a DVD, the movie plays, but NO SOUND.

Usually if the sound test works, the audio plays in the speakers. So I am not sure what is happening here.

Can anyone advise.

A:Sound Test works, but speakers wont work

Ok, I found the problem, and wanted to share. I was using a VGA extension cable to connect the computer to a 55" LCD TV across the room. I noticed during trouble shooting that the left pin, on the second row of the VGA extension cable was pushed back. When I oulled the pin out, and reconnected the VGA cords, the sound worked GREAT. I have no idea what a video cord has to do with audio, but it worked. If anyone knows the teck on this issue, please shoot me the understanding. Thanks for this site!

Hi everyone,

I have Sony Vaio CW26. Yesterday Sound stopped working from Speaker, it's still working from headphones. I tried to restore the system but the farther point I found was done 3 hours ago......

anyway, I found out too that the USB port ( which is next to the audio output) is not working too.

I checked the Device Manager and nothing is wrong, any ideas?

thanx.

A:Sound won't work form Speakers but works in headphones

Hi Ezom and welcome to SF!
That is most likely no driver problem. The way you described it makes me think it's a hardware issue.
Inside the headphone jack is a "micro switch that cuts the connection to the build in speakers as soon as anything is plugged in there. Sometimes those switches get stuck (especially if one uses headphone jacks that are slightly thicker than 3.5mm.
You could try plug/unplug the headphones (or a similar plug) several times to "unstuck" the switch

I bought a Philips Ultimate Edge 5.1 sound card a while ago to take advantage of my 5.1 100 watt computer speakers, and it worked great... now i sold my speakers and bought an Onkyo HTS580 (it's a receiver and speaker set that people use for home theaters), and i bought digital coaxial audio cable to connect the S/pdif output on the card to the Digital Coaxial input on the reciever... i made sure to enable the s/pdif output on the sound card, yet i'm not getting any sound out of my speakers.

i thought i read somewhere that the Philips Ultimate Edge sound card is missing some kind of "patch cable for the s/pdif" or something like that, so i want to know if there is anyting that i need to buy to make sure that the S/pdif out on the sound card works, or if i need to buy another sound card or what... I NEED HELP/IDEAS, PLEASE!!!

thanks,

Hello everyone.

My speakers are MS/ML-T508, and when I turn them on, they are humming very loudly. This problem appeared only when I woke up today and turned on my PC. Everything was fine yesterday.

I included the model of my speakers and the sound they are playing in the attachments (I recorded the sound with my phone, so the quality is kind of bad. If you can't hear anything, turn up the volume on your speakers). Please note that my twin stereo output speakers are fine and the sound is coming from the big box in the middle (Don't know the name of it), and the sound is playing whenever I turn it on (It doesn't matter if it's plugged in the PC or not).

Thanks in advance and if you need any more info on the problem, I'll share it. And feel free to move the thread if it's in the wrong sub-forum.

Hello and welcome PP mate first up please follow this System Info - See Your System Specs as it is very hard to help not knowing what one is working with. For example I do not know whether you are using a sound card or the board audio.

Hello everyone, you guys seem to know your stuff so Ill ask for your help:

I have a frustrating problem with my brand new XPC Shuttle computer. Everything works fine, just not sound. I tried hooking up the computer via HDMI to a TV for the first time as I didnt have a monitor - sound works just fine. Then later I removed the casing and installed 4 more Gbs of RAM for a total of 8. In order to do this I had to remove and reinsert the videocard. Computer was never on during that procedure.

Now, I cannot for the love of God make this computer produce sound trough the (correctly) connected audio jacks while it is hooked up to a proper pc monitor - Ive tried with numerous speaker/headphone devices which all are in mint condition (confirmed with other devices).

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. In the sound manager down in the corner it said at first only "Realtek Digital Output". I figured this could mean that somehow, using HDMI cable (as it was the first monitor I used the system on) that the system defaulted on a HDMI output for sound. It would not show bars for anything else, and Speaker/Headphone devices were listed as "not connected" - despite clearly being so. It seemed at first like a problem with drivers - classic stuff. Please dont go there: Drivers are installed, up to date.

Then I launched Realtek HD audio manager and checked the box "Disable front panel jack detection" - as instructed by the program in case I had proble... Read more

When I connect the Dell Inspiron N7110 with a HDMI cable to a Sony TV, screen shows but sound is played via the computer only. This is since Windows 10, with Windows 7 + 8 it had some quirks (we always had to switch off sound enhancements first to get it working, but it worked).
This is what I checked/tried:
Device manager: uninstalled both drivers at Audio -input and output, and also System Devices/High Definition Audio Controller, all is reinstalled after a reset
Display adapters: there are 2. Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M. Removed the Intel driver, which is reinstalled after a reset.
Also tried to switch off each; switching off the Intel does not change anything; switching off the NVidia stops displaying the picture on the TV as well.
It does not matter if the display is on the TV only or stretched on laptop + TV (2 screens). I can however not duplicate the screen - this does not show anything on TV when chosen.
 One remarkable thing:
On starting the NVidia installation program, it DOES show correctly HDMI: SONY TV XV . You can then press a button from there which opens the Windows Sound configuration screen where it only shows the icon of the internal speakers (yes right mouse option Show Disabled devices and Show Disconnected devices are both checked).

The problem can not be the HDMI cable. I've connected several other brands of laptops and they all work. Basically, as soon as I connect the HDMI cable, the SONY TV icon appears as a... Read more

So the two speakers I use for my computer are not completely working. When plugged into my computer, the main speaker with the controls and stuff gives out sound but the other speaker doesn't.

I tried plugging the speakers instead into my phone and both speakers had sound coming out, so I thought it's probably the audio jack on the computer that is the problem.

Is there any way to maybe replace the jack or use the other jacks on the computer for the speakers?

Hi Questionerer,

Seen as though you have tested with your mobile phone and sound IS coming out of your two speakers, it is safe to say that the speaker is not at fault.

I think that your computer is outputting sound panned right, in other words its only sending the audio information to the left side speaker.

To help you with this problem and to eliminate any driver problems please can you do the following:
Go to: Start > Type: msconfig.exe - Press Enter
Go to the tab 'Boot'
Bottom of the window there are check-boxes, tick the one called 'Boot log'
Press Apply/OK
Shutdown the PC
Wait 10 seconds
Turn on PC
Go to - C:\Windows and find a file called ntbtlog.txt
Upload this file to this thread
Thanks

I want to record some music from old LP records to add to some video recordings I've made. Until now (on my old XP setup - same hardware) I have used the mic to pick up sound from my hifi speakers but would like to do it direct via the sound card. My first problem is sorting out the input.
I have a pre-amp between record deck and hifi and have tried plugging the pre-amp directly into the Line In socket on the PC but can't seem to pick up the sound via IDT Audio Control Panel. The Panel adds a "?" to its diagramatic display on Line In but I can't see how to configure it (by the way, I tried the jack plug in the Aux socket of a portable radio which played the track OK so the connections work). The Panel should be obvious but I can't seem to follow what's needed nor find any user guide, even via Google.
I have an MS Lifecam VX5000 (I just use it for Skype occasionally) and this now seems to take over. I tried using Windows Troubleshooting (Hardware&Sound|Recording Audio) at one point which went off to do its stuff and now the Lifecam mic is permanently on, which is annoying. Any help restoring settings for that would be welcome. Unplugging the Lifecam doesn't actually fix the problem I'm having configuring Line In though. Anyone able to help?
By the way, I will need sound-recording software. Previously I used Free Hi-Q (for my XP setup) but noted a user comment on CNET that it doesn't work on Win7-64bit (I haven't tried ... Read more

Here's a problem that's driving me nuts with an otherwise excellent OS.

I'm running Win7 (RC1, 32 bit) on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A7640 notebook (1GB RAM, Mobile AMD Sempron 3000+), which uses VIA Vinyl AC'97 (VIA VT1612A AC97) to playback sound.

The system has a habit of freezing when playing sound. It doesn't seem to matter what program is playing the sound, as I have had my instant messenger, email notifier and browser (online videos) all hang the system. So, it is not program related.

When the system hangs, the screen freezes, the mouse pointer doesn't move and the keyboard is unresponsive (CRTL+ALT+DEL does nothing). The only way to deal with it is to press the power button for a few seconds to switch off the computer.

But this doesn't happen every time I play sound. I can for instance watch a number of online videos just fine and then have everything freeze when I start the next one. The problem is also not related to any particular sound or video since after a reboot I can watch a video that crashed the system just fine.

Actually, I am not 100% sure but it seems to me that what causes the freezing is the start of sound playback. If the playback starts ok, I will be able to go through the whole audio/video without problem.

I have tried a number of things to fix this. The default audio driver installed by Win7 already had the freezing problem, and the one I got from the Fujitsu-Siemens website (marked compatible only for XP) did the same. I tried the latest driver ... Read more

Hi there vili

I've been attempting to upgrade my wifes fairly old laptop to Windows 7 RTM for a few weeks and have been suffering exactly the same problems as you.

Not sure if the hardware is the same but ill go through it now.

Motherboard: Uniwill 259KI1
CPU: AMD Sempron 3000+ (Supposesdly 1.6Ghz, CPU ID never shows more than 800Mhz!)
1 GB PC 2700 DDR RAM
SIS integrated chipset
VIA Audio

I'd all but given up hope, but decided to give it one more try.

To my delight i'd managed to locate all of the old Windows XP drivers online, and started to install them one by one using the compatibility modes you can use by right clicking on the .exe and selecting properties.

What i've found pretty amazing is not one driver failed to install in windows 7, even the display and sound drivers.

Now I have a full install with no more freezes or failures to come out of sleep. The only down side is the audio driver still a little on the glitchy side (audibly) and continues to make the odd pop or crack here and there, but its still better than the one in Windows update.

So try going back to your windows XP drivers first before you attempt moving onto windows 7 drivers.

Windows 7 drivers barely exist for this lappy so I had little choice but to use the XP ones anyway.

Hi, i recently started restoring all the vinyl records i have. im currently using sony sound forge 10.0.... using this im able to eliminate all the clicks and crackles... but there's a deep bass hum which i wish to filter but i cant do so without filtering the bass in the song as well.... any suggestions???

A:Vinyl restoration help for Sony Sound Forge 10.0

Is the low hum on the recordings or is it a "ground loop" hum? If you connect whatever external device you have connected to the PC, such as a stereo system output, RIAA preamp (you can't connect the turntable direct unless it has a built in RIAA preamplifier and most do not) with no record playing do you her the low hum? If you do its a ground loop hum and you need to correct that. Ground loop hums are common with guitar amps and AC powered effects and the "quick and dirty" way to fix it is to lift the AC power ground on one device.

One other condsideration, the interconnecting cable between the external device and the PC audio input. It must be a shielded audio cable. If you use a "speaker" cable it is unshielded and AC hum can be picked up.

On the other hand if you are connecting a turntable, that does not have a built in RIAA preamp, direct to the PC that is probably some (if not all) the problem. First the output from the turntable needle is too low for a PC input, second you need the RIAA preamp to recover the full fidelity of the recording.

I just bought a HP Pavilion 23-q105a, which run on Windows 10. The last PC also ran on Windows 10.  I want to record my vinyl records.   On the last PC, I had the turntable connected to the mixer and then connected to the PC. I also had two sets of speakers attached for output. The old PC had a microphone socket as well as a headphone socket. The new PC only had a headphone socket so I bought a Dynamode USB Sound Card 7.1 adapter. I haven't changed the configuration of the cables, but I did check them over to ensure that everything is working as it should. So, I can't configure either of the sets of speaker and there is no audio coming through from the turntable/mixer.All drivers are up to date, as far as I have been able to check. I should add that the Dynamode support page seems to say that the software is compatible for up to Windows 7, but I am pretty sure that the packaging said it was compatible for Windows 10. It would be tremendously helpful to have a step by step guide as if I were a complete idiot/novice. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance

Hi, You definitely need a driver for your Dynamode USB Sound Card 7.1 adapter. It is not a plug-and-play product. Regards.
