Yoga 500 14ISK Battery not Charging and Bios Update Problem

Q: Yoga 500 14ISK Battery not Charging and Bios Update Problem

Hi my friends, before I say what is the problem and which process I passed last few weeks. My computer model is Yoga 500 14ISK. 3 months ago it started not charging battery and I think that is just self protection for battery and I didn't care for 2 months, because I wasn't using battery anyway. But But when I search internet few weeks ago I realize that is a system problem. Also after decrease to %0 and when I plug in the electricity, it wouldn't let me open computer at least 10-15 minutes. Then I started to search solutions. These are what I did so far: First, I check battery if it is okey, and because of only 2 years old laptop and I didn't use battery so much it says battery is healthy like new one. Second, I found the lenovo optimizer program and try the calibrate the battery, I started program and wait for 8 hours. At the and it said unsuccessfull and also said battery not detected. Then finally, I think maybe it is because of bios update needed and I was correct. 11 April 2018, Lenovo announced a new BIOS update for this kind of YOGA series laptop, Which is must be good for me, and must solve the problem. Here is the following lenovo support link explain what was the problem and information about BIOS update: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ca/tr/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-500-15isk/download... But the real problem is when I try to update new BIOS vesion the system gave me this error:------Error: not enough battery life. Current: 0, threshold: 30ERROR 220 - Failed at power status check! Status = 223.-----What I understand is, because of my battery has %0 charge and I need at least %30 charge for BIOS update, system is not updating BIOS version. Before you suggest that my battery is not removable and I cannot reach unless if I remove all laptop. And also I cannot charge the battery because it is not possible as far as I know (Of course if there are other ways I am open the suggestion ). So where I stand is and main question that; how can update new BIOS version while I have %0 charge without any error. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A couple of weeks ago, Lenovo Vantage offered a bios update to version D3CN38WW. However, after I installed it, it seems that my battery cannot be charged any further than 15%. Also, charging from, say, 10% to 15% takes ages. Prior to this bios update, I never had any issues with this. I do not use the laptop a whole lot and when I do it is always connected to AC power. At first I already noticed that the battery level was lower than I expected (~40% while I use the battery preservation mode, so I had expected something around 60%), but this week I saw that it had dropped really low and that it won't charge past 15% anymore. What I tried to resolve it: - Charge the laptop while it is turned off. Doesn't do anything, the power brick hardly generates any heat. This would rule out any OS/software issues.- Try different settings (i.e.: turning on/off) for battery preservation and quick charging in Lenovo Vantage. None of these helped. What is peculiar is that Lenovo Vantage says that the battery's condition is good, but that the charger has limited support. The last thing is particularly odd, as it is the charger that came with the laptop when I bought it. I do not know that it said prior to these problems, as I usually didn't pay much attention to what Vantage was saying. As far as I can see, the bios update introduced this problem. I have been suffering the, what seems common, screen flicker issue with my yoga 500 when on battery. After reading through some threads i discovered the problem was either, Drivers or Bios. After trying both drivers from lenovo themselves, and the latest from intel/nvidia the problem still remained.i then tried updating the bios. After windows shut down, the Phoenix bios updater stated a message that the bios had been sucessfully updated. The laptop then restarted and no longer posts or goes into windows. The Nova button also has no function and just causes the keyboard to illuminate and the fan to spins for 10 seconds before stopping.(Same as power button)Any advice?

Hi, i've had my Yoga 3 (11 inch (windows 10)) version for around 18 months, and never had any issues with charging. Over the weekend (23/10/2016) I plugged in my charger, and nothing happened... this worried me, as the laptop only had 6% battery, and if it was a driver problem, this could be very tricky to fix on a dead laptop. My original thoughts were the cable has somehow broken (despite being in perfect condition), and eventually after moving the cable and carefully pushing it into the laptop even further it started to charge! I decided to see if there were new drivers available for my model, and "coincedentally" a new power management driver was released on 23/10/2016! I tried to install this driver, but as soon as the tool starts to run within a milisecond it closes itself.. So my questions are... 1) Do you think its hardware or driver issue? After messing with the lead, the laptop does charge if you bend the wire in a certain direction making me think it's a hardware issue.2) If its a driver issue, (which the driver update coincedence points to).. Can anyone help me install the driver? http://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/Yoga-3-1170/downloads/DS10... Any help on this would be greatly appreaciated. Thankscnagra

I see this eror when you charged fully and start the using about anything, programming, gaming, whatching movie.... I went to warranty for this issue and they changed the battery. But i think this problems source is windows 10. If i take off the charger and contunie the using laptop, when battery level is comes under the %90,i am pluging in again and the battery start charging again. So that i can see the battery level is %100.?f you see this eror, firstly go to warranty shop.I will use my laptop  a little time and if i see this eror again,i will go to service again.

Actually this is fine. Thas is the way it should work. Your battery life is calculated in charging-decharging cycles. Imaging that if the charger went on after dropping from 100% to 99% and charged your battery again to 100%...and then it goes off and the level drops again to 99% and then again...the charger is on to charge it fully to 100%, this costs a lot of more cycles that dropping to lets say 96-97%. This causes less wear to the battery

I have an IdeaPad Y550P (bought in 2010) running on Windows 10 and I recently ordered a new battery for it but it wont charge. The seller first suggested that I uninstall MS ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and rescan for hardware changes in Device Mgr. When that didnt work the seller said the laptop's BIOS needs to be udpated. I cant log into BIOS as I dont know the password even though I am the only owner of this laptop. I then went to Lenovo's support page but it doesnt even have this model listed there anymore to check for udpates. I downloaded Lenovo's system update tool and it says 'no packages applicable to your system were found.' This is a Lenovo computer so surely there must be some updates available. Any other thoughts or suggestions on why the battery is not working? Any advice or tips will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Mfg date for this laptop is Oct 2014, Windows 10 OS. About a month back battery power was about 25% when I plugged charger in. the screen became brighter, means it was charging. Suddenly the computer shut down and though charger was connected, the charging light went off. Thereafter the computer did not turn on either with charger or without. Even the charging light did not turn on. Changed the charger as well as cable but neither charging indicator turned on nor computer turned on. It was like battery fully down and charger not connected. Took it to Lenovo service center and they made it alright and told me that they had disconnected the battery and reconnected. The power left in the battery was still 25%. Exactly same thing happened once again yesterday and I disconnected the battery and reconnected and it worked. Since it happened second time, whatever the problem may be, was not solved permanently by above procedure. Can someone help what could be the reason and how to solve it permanently?

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

A:Yoga 2 Pro Battery not charging

I've experienced this a couple times on my new Yoga 2 as well. The first instance, it just started charging again after about an hour of use. The second time, I rebooted after about an hour of it being plugged in and not charging, and once I reached the desktop, the battery showed 43%, but still not charging.. So i guess it was actually charging the whole time without showing it?After about 2 days of ownership, I've decided to do a clean install of windows 8.1 followed by loading all the necessary drivers listed on lenovo's product page, and I can happily say this 0% plugged in not charging thing hasn't happened again.

A:yoga 720 13" charging battery

Hi Ferry-indra,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Placing the laptop connected to the charger overnight with proper autosurge/ voltage regulator device is safe.

The battery itself have a special overcharger protection as described in the manual page 22:
"Battery charging does not start until the Power Meter shows that less than 95% of the total power remains; under this condition the battery pack can charge to 100% of its capacity. This protects the battery pack from being overcharged or from having a shortened life."

Hope this helps answer your query.

Hello,

I seem to be having an intermittent "Not Charging" issue on my Lenovo Yoga 900.

It usually happens when it's fully charged and I unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in. If I let it drop below 93-95% it will usually say "Plugged in, charging" again.

Is this some sort of glitch, or a feature? I tried looking to see if I had the "conservation" setting on, and I do not.

I have a few days to take it back to the store if I need to. I'd really rather not send it in because we have problems with couriers dropping off packages that end up getting stolen because we live in an apartment with multiple locked doors, so they usually pitch it beside the door and run off and then someone else takes off with our stuff. Had it happen a couple of times with Amazon orders. (grr)

Thanks to anyone who can answer this!

A:Yoga 900 - Battery plugged in, not charging.

Good day and welcome to the community. This is my experience with my Yoga 900 and Yoga 900S. This way the system isn't trying to constantly top off 1 or 2%, which is not good for the battery. By contrast, Conservation Mode will charge to ~60% and then stop. That has some benefits, also. Personally, I'm not using Conservation Mode, and so far I've not seen any negative effects on my batteries.

Hoipe this helps.Regards.

Hello everyone,About a week ago, I got an error message saying something like the battery cannot be identified (I'm trying to find a screenshot somewhere).Since that moment, the battery does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in, while the battery is nearly full (>90%).I found this thread and it fits exactly to my problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-14-battery-quot-plugged-i... I understand that this behaviour might be a feature to improve the batteries lifespan, but I really want to get rid of that. The Lenovo Settings App offers the option to manually set the charging-threshold to 40-100%, but setting it to 100% or turning the feature off does not change anything.Another side effect is that the charging process does not begin until about 1 minute after the AC adapter is plugged in.I didn't knowingly change anything on the software configuration when the problem appeared, the said error message appeared while watching YouTube-videos. lg, couka

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I do not know a solution for your problem, but I want to suggest you some trial an error to see if it can be software related issue.

1) Check the Lenovo Settings and see if it asks you to update the System Interface Foundation drivers.
2) Check the support site and just in case check that you have the latest BIOS and the latest "Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 10 "

After that check the "Lenovo Settings" and give it a try turning on the option of "extended the battery life", set it to a 80% and give it some time for it to discharge. After that disable that feature to see if the battery charges back again.

Also on "Lenovo Settings", on the same "battery/power" page it has a "restablish" options, maybe you can also try that later.

Sorry that this is just some trial and error, but it is what it cames to my mind right now.

Regards

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.

After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:

Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
Battery intermittently charging

Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.

For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?

Thank you for your help,

What is the charge level? If it is more than 60%, then the battery will start charging when battery level goes below 60%. This would be valid if the battery setting has been set to maximum lifespan in energy management. If optimize for runtime had been selected and it still doesnt charge or in the eatlier option below 60% it is not charging, then you would have to take laptop to support.

That's normal. Windows 10 has a mechanism to protect battery from lowering its capacity. It will start charging when battery level will be less than for example 90%.

Hi  I upgraded to Windows 10 and ever since then my laptop battery is not charging. I am a computer illiterate and travelling at the moment so can not even seek my IT departments help. The problem is that the battery shows 1% charge and when connected it to AC the laptop works well - as soon as I disconnected, it goes into hibernate. The symbol for AC connection does show so the laptop is detecting the charger. Along with this I keep on getting a battery calibration suggestion and says that I have not calibrated my battery in a long long time - although I do it every time it shows up. So I dont know what that is. Before the Windows 10 upgrade, my laptop on a 100% charge was giving me up to 6 hours of usage so I doubt there's anything wrong with the battery physically.  Would appreciate an experts advice on this. Please speak to me as you would to a 4 year old as like I said I'm completely computer illiterate!  Thanks & Regards

Hi there, I bought my X1 YOGA 3rd gen 2 weeks ago and I just noticed that the battery will not charge when the computer is shut down completely. Is this a new thing with the new model or is there something wrong with my thinkpad? Thanks

Mine charges when shut down.  Do you have thresholds set?

Hello, My recently bought Thinkpad Yoga 14 recently had this strange problem going on. The battery goes down, even when the AC cord is plugged in. The battery message says "plugged in, not charging". What exactly is the problem, and how do I fix it? The laptop came with Windows 10. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you! ??

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

As I'm typing this now im running on about 20% battery and dropping. I've had my Z710 Ideapad for almost 2 years now. within these 2 years I've replaced the battery twice, got 3 new adapters, and had sent it in for the factory to basiclly gut it and replace it with graphics drives that were inferior to the previous ones.  So needless to say Its really annoying that now my biggest problem is that my laptop now will randomly stop charging randomly, regardless of if its on or off.

Hi there, Vaigne -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

1: Remove the AC adapter plug.
2: Remove the battery.
3: Press the power button for about 30 seconds. This will clear the capacitors.
4: Insert the battery and plug in the AC adapter.
5: Press the power button.

Update us how it goes.

My laptop battery stopped charging overnight. It is plugged and say it's charging, but as soon as I remove the charged the laptop turns off.  It's at 0% and not going up.  I've noticed that the linking of the battery is blinking and not on as it used to be when it was charging.  Anyone has any idea how to fix it?  Thanks.
