automatic restart after 5 seconds

Q: automatic restart after 5 seconds

Hey there! I recently assembled my own custom PC (see specs lower down) and when all the parts were assembled it turned ugly. When I started the computer it turns on fine, for about 3 seconds. Then it turns itself off again, 5 seconds after that it turns itself on again. It then repeats this cycle into eternity...According to another forum I visited it might be that my haswell refresh processor won't go together with the standard bios version of the h87 chipset. But I never got a clear answer from them...Could someone please help me with this .

Specs :
Chassi : fractal design arc XL
Graphiccards : 2x6950 2gb
Ssd : corsair force 60gb
Hdd : western digital green 500gb
Psu : silverpower 750W
Memory: corsair xms3 2x4gb
Cpu: i5-4690
Motherboard : gigabyte z87x-OC

Preferred Solution: automatic restart after 5 seconds

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone,

I have searched around a bit to see if others have ran into this problem, but I have had no luck so far. When I start my computer, it pops up with the standard menu it uses when an OS error has caused a restart. I can't get it too load windows using safe mode, last known good configuration, or normal mode. I never even see the windows loading screen, it restarts immediately.

Here is what I have tried:
1) I ran a check disk using the recovery console but it did not fix the problem.
2) I manually backed up the SYSTEM, SAM, DEFAULT, SECURITY, and SOFTWARE files from the root\windows\system32\config folder. I then replaced those files with ones from a few days ago located in the root\system volume information\ folder. It did not fix my problem.
3) I'm about to re-install windows when I decide to press f8 on boot and disable automatic restarts on system failure just to see if I'm missing some sort of BSOD. Windows completely loaded without any problems.
4) This confused me so I reversed the actions I took in step 2 (above) just to see whether it would boot with the original files as long as I chose "Disable Automatic Restarts on System Failure." It loaded windows without a problem.
5) I restarted to see whether it would boot normally or not. Again, it wouldn't load windows with any options other than the "Disable automatic restarts on system failure" option.

At this point, I'm pretty confused. Could the OS be mistakin... Read more

i keep encounter this auto restart error therefore i decided to uncheck the automatic restart checkbox in system properties to get a BSOD so that i know what happen, but even if i uncheck it, my cpu still auto restart without generating a BSOD

i also checked my windows folder but there are no \Windows\Minidump in it

A:Auto restart even if uncheck automatic restart

Upload Dump Files:
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Left click on the first minidump file.
Hold down the "Shift" key and left click on the last minidump file.
Right click on the blue highlighted area and select "Send to"
Select "Compressed (zipped) folder" and note where the folder is saved.
Upload that .zip file with your next post.

If you have issues with "Access Denied" errors, try copying the files to your desktop and zipping them up from there. If it still won't let you zip them up, post back for further advice.

If you don't have anything in that folder, please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service - then post the link to it.
Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): Set MiniDump

Hi all.
As title, I have a WinXP Pro SP3 that had several virus problems, the evidence was the "italian internet police" full-screen message after user logon.
After using combofix I installed the trial version of Symantec Endpoint protection.
SEP found infected exe and trojans.
Now the system seems working ok, except Windows Update.
I ran DDS, so find here attached its logs (some are in italian, as the localized version of Win).

I had a problem. I just got myself a new Computer, OS is windows XP. Processor is Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz
I realized that after reinstalling my stuff (like firefox, gigaget, AVG, etc) and have transfered all my stuff from external hard disk to my current hard disk, i found a big problem. (I am not sure if the problem exists beforehand)

Firstly, I go into Windows Security Center (by going into Control Panel -> Security Center). There, I see that my Firewall, Automatic Updates and my Virus Protection are all ON. That is natural, as that is what it should be. My firewall uses the default Windows Firewall, and my Virus Protection uses AVG.

In split second, all 3 of them will be set to OFF, and immediately (after about 0.1 to 0.2 second) they will be back on once again. This happens randomly, as there is no fix timing on when is going to happen.

It happens almost regularly, about once to twice per minute. I knew it because I stare at my monitor for quite sometime to test.

I need desperate help, is there something going on in my new PC?

A:Firewall, Automatic Updates, Virus Protection Turned Off For About 0.2 Seconds

firstly why are you using windows firewall? it isnt very good i would recommend you get something like ZoneAlram (free edition is avaiavlable)ZoneAlarm free (Firewall)http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/cat...=GB&lang=enwhat you need to do is under each catergory eg firewall, there should be link that says "Show Me Other Options" under that you should then select "I have a firewall/Antiviurs/Spyware remove that i manage myself"this *should* resolve it, disconnect off your internet, turn off all protection from your system tray, then in security centre disable and re-enable all your security and restart the computer)let us know if this works.

i have a weird problem with my pc, i have freshly installed windows 8.1, fully updated, really few softwares installed and my problem is, when i start or restart pc, it boots up pretty quickly to the desktop, but there are no icons visible on the desktop for ? 5 seconds , i can see the background, mouse cursor ( it also moves if i move with mouse ) and use firefox icon, which is attached to the start panel, not really big deal, but i hadnt this problem before windows reinstall ( i reinstalled because i had often freezes after start/restart and i plan to move to win 10, so i wanted to clear my installation )
any ideas why this is happening ?
i7 3770, gtx 980, 8gb 1600mhz ram, samsumg 840 evo 250gb ( latest firmware installed )

A:No icons on desktop after restart for few seconds

Same thing happens with my 8.1 Pro setup - but it's intermittent, not every time the system is booted. My assumption is some startup system process took a little longer "than expected" so some other system process that finds and displays icons gets delayed. Since everything "eventually" ends up where it's supposed to be and there aren't any significant errors in the various log files, I just live with it.

I do not know what's causing this and I've been getting it for some time now. I'll try to describe the problem as best I can. First, the mouse kinda hangs every 5 seconds then I try to shutdown or restart, then BSOD appears.

I have attached the Dump/System file collection folder but I am not able to do a system health report successfully. It always gives me an error message even though the service related to that is started already.(
The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out.)

A:BSOD after trying to restart because mouse hangs every 5-10 seconds.

The crashdumps are kinda all over the place, but I do notice a general pattern in that they deal with USB. I cannot ascertain what the exact cause is however.

Sifting through some general data in them, I can at least provide some suspects. First off, your USB3 driver (Fresco Logic xHCI (USB3) Device Driver) is rather out of date (Feb 2011). In addition, the same goes for your Atheros Bluetooth Driver. These both were involved in a number of your crashdumps, so in general you will want to look into updating all of your motherboard drivers, as well as your BIOS. To add, I found AiCharger present in one of the faulting IRPs. This is a rather gimmicky motherboard utility that is supposed to improve the trickle charge on your USB devices. Rather, it - as well as any other motherboard utility software - often comes with many bugs and not worth having on your system. Your best option is to sift through your Programs and Features and find any software related to your motherboard and uninstall it. Keep your drivers of course.

I'm running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 on a HP Media Center PCm7170n

I have ran several virus scanners such as Kaspersky Internet Security and AVG Anti Virus and defraggged and scanned my hard drive.

My computer seems that whenever it is idle it will reboot. I'm not even getting the dialog box that countdowns and asks me to reboot. I will leave my computer and when i come back sometimes within 5 minutes it will have reboot. Doesn't matter what program I have up and running. As long as I am working on the computer it does not reboot. But if i walk away, it will have. It even rebooted while i was running Zone Alarm and had the security set on the highest setting.

It doesn't seem to do it at any specific time, as in if i have a particular program up and running. It doesn't matter it will reboot whether i have nothing running or all messengers and p2p running. It reboots either way

Both virus scanners have come up with nothing. Any suggestions?

I think more details would be in order here. Particularly, what are you specifically doing on the PC when it automatically restarts? Also, did this start recently or has it been happening for a while?

Hey everyone,

I have tried to look for a similar problem here at TSG, but I couldn't find one so I decided to post. I have a desktop computer that I got about a year ago, it's running XP Pro on Pentium 4 3.2GHz system, has 512 ram and I think a 200Gb HDD. Lately it has been restarting, usually when I try to, eg: listen to music and surf the web, which is nothing strenuous, especially for a computer which I thought was pretty good. All of a sudden though, it has just restarted itself and, and as soon as it gets to the Windows XP loading screen, it restarts again and again. I can never get past the XP loading screen. I have a lot of valuable information on the computer and so I was hoping that someone would be able to help me fix this issue without formatting if possible. I thought it may have had something to do with temperature, so I've gone into BIOS just after letting it restart itself once to monitor the temperature, when I went into it at first, the CPU temp was 39 degrees celsius, after five minutes it has gone up to 49. I've taken the both the case sides off to see if it helps, but the temp keeps rising. Do you think its related to temperature or something else??? ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks a lot!

So, I've been having a bunch of problems with BSODs lately and I've been struggling to find the cause because even after disabling automatic restart in the system properties, the damn thing still restarts. All I get is the Windows Error Reporting service starting up when the computer reboots and telling me my computer just Blue Screened. I'm pretty sure I could figure out what it is (I already know it's not RAM, because I ran memtest on it for 13 hours with no results) if I just could get at that error code on the blue screen, but that's hard to do when you never even see it.

So, I have this laptop.

Toshiba satellite A200-AH6

OS: Vista? Home Premium (Bilingual)
Processor: Intel? Core? Duo Processor T2450 2.0GHz
Ram: 1 GB DDR2 / 2 GB
HDD: 160.0 billion bytes
VideoMobile Intel? 945GM Express Chipset 256MB

And it won't shut down! You shut it down using the start menu tab and it restarts. I changed the settings on the shutdown button to actually shut it down, and it restarts. I use the physical button to shut it down and it works fine, but comes back up with the windows did not shut down correctly error when rebooted. Now, the kicker, when it is not plugged into the ac power and is running off of the battery, it is just fine!

What I have done so far is update to the latest updates for windows. I installed the latest drivers from the toshiba website and other vendor sites. Updated the Bios. Changed all sorts of settings in the power options and nothing works.

Any Ideas?

A:Automatic Restart Of Laptop

i've got a Dell laptop so it might be different on mine, but when i was looking at the BIOS yesterday, there was a part of the BIOS that allowed you to control what the power button did when the power supply was plugged in or not. i know you've said you've updated the BIOS but have you seen this in the BIOS.

another one, maybe a little bit stupid, but when you shut your computer down, are you clicking on the power button option, or choosing 'Shut Down' option for the drop down menu. i say this because for the first day or so of using Vista for the first time, i was clicking the button that has the same symbol as the power button on the laptop, and it was just hibernating, rather than turning off.

hope this helps, but i'm just a newbie lol, so someone who knows what they're talking about might have an answer

Unless you use wake-on-lan ( http://winhlp.com/node/57 which has many issues for what you are considering) and schedule another comp to call yours, that is the only built-in method I know about.

I am working on my friends Dell Inspiron 570 it will turn off. It goes through the proper shutdown sequence and goes off for about 2 seconds then kicks back on automatically. I have turned off the wake up on LAN activity setting, I have also scanned for viruses. It is running Win 7, 6 gigs of ram, and an Athlon II X4 630 2.8 processor. I have also downloaded the newest bios form dell's site as well as chipset drivers. Any help would be appreciated.

Also I forgot to mention I tried a new power supply as well.

A:Will Not Stay Off Automatic restart

To confirm...please do the following:

Start Menu > Shut down

Does it still reboot instead of just shut down?

What happens when you actually tell it to reboot?

Whats the problem...Plz help me.

Are you running the beta version? Because afaik the beta version has already expired so it will restart like that.

Install the RC version or the RTM trial.

Hi there. From searching on forums, this is quite an issue. But everybody suggests to go to gpedit.msc. My OS (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) does NOT have that function. There is a folder for policies, but it is empty. Also, the settings for updates does not have any option of that nature. So what do you do to prevent Windows from restarting automatically after applying an update?

A:Automatic restart after updates

You should have group policies do you have admin?
