Belkin f5u103 usb to serial adapter on XP

Q: Belkin f5u103 usb to serial adapter on XP

Hi,
I have a Belkin F5U103 USB to Serial adapter that I cannot get to work on any XP PC(cannot find drivers is the response). I downloaded the XP drivers from Belkin site and unzipped to the correct file--directed wizard to that file but it says cannot find driver. I loaded it ok on Win98. It seems that XP is the trouble although Belkins site says the driver I download is for XP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Belkin F5U409 serial to USB adapter that I'm running on an IBM laptop (T41) running XP.

If I conect the adapter before I boot up the PC it crashes with a blue screen. If I boot up without the adapter conected all is fine.

I know the simple fix is to unplug the adapter before I boot up - but you wouldn't believe how many times I forget.

Does any one have any ideas on fixes for this problem? I have checked the Belkin site for newer drivers but they are all older than the ones that came with the adapter.

For what it's worth - windows gives a message about the driver not being certified when I install it ( and the install instructions say to just ignore this and keep going).

Hello, this problem has really confuzzled me. I have just bought a new wireless USB adapter, ran it through the setup entered the password etc. Fine. Nicely connects to the router everytime (well ok most the time). But it cant seem to find the internet, which i know is there because my house mate has no problems with it. I've read quite a few complaints about this adapter. Is it worth just returning it and trying a different one? Or does anyone have any ideas?

It finds the submask, ip address, sets a channel automatically. One thing i noticed though is it doesnt create a gateway. (i asume cos i cant find the net). I did have internet before but they were wired. I've since then disabled the normal ethernet adapter and disabled the old connections. So i dont think theres anything conflicting.

Please help?!!
Thank you in advance i really appreciate it.

A:Belkin Wireless adapter - can connect to the adapter, but not the internet!!!

I'm going to guess that the IP address that it finds is 169.254.x.x and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0, right? It's really NOT connecting to the router, which is why you don't have a Default Gateway or DNS servers.

You don't have to disable the wired interface to connect wirelessly, there's no conflict.

I'd suggest you first disable the encryption and see if it connects. If it does, then you need to make sure you enter matching passwords for the encryption on each end. Note that for WEP you should ONLY use the HEX password, do not use the passcode option.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Code 10 sounds like you don't have the drivers loaded, or they're the wrong drivers.

Perhaps it would be easier if we helped you get the first adapter working.

I need a serial port (9-pin) on my laptop. What is s good USB adapter/converter to buy?? Are there some that seem to work better than others??

Thanks for any advice.

A:USB to serial adapter

Truthfully, depending on what you need the serial port for, none of them may work properly. You might consider a PCMCIA serial adapter, which will probably be more compatible.

I recently bought a Dell XPS laptop and I was surprised to see that it does not come with any serial/DVI ports for connecting to my monitor. It only has 3 USB ports and 1 HDMI port.

So I'll need to get some kind of adapter/converter to connect my monitor to my laptop. I've never dealt with this situation before and I wanted to get some opinions about what kind of product would be my best choice.

I was looking around on NewEgg and I came up with these; in your opinion what should I get? Thanks for your feedback.

That service error message on selecting Turn On discovery is more than likely a driver issue for the adapator.
Is there a warning on device manager for the Belkin.

I'm at the point where I know I can't fix this myself. There was a virus on the computer, rootkit.zeroaccess, which has been (supposedly) removed and winsockfix has been run. My operating system is XP 2600 sp3, but the disc cracked long ago, so I can't fix anything.

We had AVG on this computer, but 2012 didn't load, and when I tried to install it from a flash drive, it said it required internet access (although I'm sure I saw a CD for AVG 2012 arrive in the mail, but we can't find it!).

Since the PC is nowhere near the router, I use a Belkin wireless adapter, which is showing when it connects. I can view the wireless networks in range, but I can't connect. In addition the PC seems to think the hardware is not connected for the wireless connection.

I keep changing the setting to automatically connect, but I have to do it over and over. Also, when the computer restarts wireless zero configuration doesn't start, although it is showing "automatic" in services -- and starting it doesn't seem to make a difference, except then it will let me view the wireless networks.

So -- what are my options now?

Hi! Just wondering if you guys can help me out...
I just got a new pc with Vista Home Premium x64. Here are the specs
Athlon 64 X2 6000+
4GB RAM
512MB GeForce 8600GTS

It works fine except when I have tried to install my Belkin USB wireless adapter. I went to Belkins site and it told me to download the Ralink drivers, which I did. Nothing. Vista tells me that the device is working properly, but the light on the adapter is not lighting up, and Windows does not pick up any networks at all. I tried the PC with a second, identical adapter to see if it was the device causing the problem, but I have gotten the same response, which lead me to think it was an issue with Vista.

If anyone could provide me with some advice I would be very grateful.

So I went into my closet and grabbed my old Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter, hoping to install it and have it work.
I plugged it in, and forgot that I needed the CD. So I found it shattered in about 5 pieces in my closet. Found the software online, and downloaded and ran it.
Ran into this error at the end of the install:

I'm looking for some help and advise on my USB to serial adapter. I have a new connector bought from FRY's and I figured it would be a simple automatic install; wrong. I plan on using this adapter to connect my wideband Air Fuel Monitor in my Mustang to datalog along with my other functions on a program called Binary Editor on a device called Tweecer.

The USB to Serial adapter is recognized by my computer and goes thru the initial automatic install and I let it search automatically for drivers; well none were found. I'm assuming I need to install the driver manually and that creates another problem. I'm not sure what USB to Serial adapter I have. The only marking on it are "Made in China"; no help. When I try to open the Air Fuel Monitor program it says there are no comm ports recognized or turned on.

So I'm here looking for help before I go out and buy another adapter.

You don't need to install drivers for the adapter. You need to install the drivers for the hardware that you are connecting ( Air Fuel Monitor ).

I am helping connect a GPs to a laptop for some yachties. The problem is that when we connect the GPS (via the serial to USB adapter) to the laptop, the OS thinks it sees not only the adapter but also a "Microsoft Serial Ballpoint Pointing Device." It then loads the driver for that phantom device and starts interpreting the incoming GPS data as mouse coordinates and clicks, causing the cursor to go crazy. Only by turning off the GPS and then uninstalling the driver for the 'Serial Ballpoint Pointing" device can we avoid all of this and get the GPS talking nicely to the navigation app. So, how can we prevent the OS from automatically "seeing" this phantom serial ballpoint device and loading the driver? (If we simply disable the device it intereres with the COM port and the navigation program cannot see the GPS.) We need to keep the serial ballpoint device driver from loading at all.

Hi,

So this computer has been having this problem for a while.
The computer has some equipment connected via a usb to serial converter and it just sits there always plugged in having no problems. However when we go and open up the software which actually tries to pull data from the device, bam, bsod (not all the times, but most of them).

Searching on the internet suggests the usb to serial adapter was a bit dodgy (made by ATEN), so I bought a better (more expensive) version from a different company(keyspan usa-19hs). Yet we still have the problem.

Hopefully someone can lend a hand as to what the problem is now.
I've used DM Log Collector and attached the results.

Thanks again seven forums!

(Im 90% sure its the adapter, but i might be wrong! Something else could be causing the bsods!)

A:BSOD when using serial to usb adapter

Yeah, the cause it due to the USA19H2kp.SYS driver.

I need a bit more information though.

Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file. Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instructions here. Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums.

The adapter is installed and the XP mode says is is attached. I am using auto cad to plot to an HP plotter by serial port. I don't have a serial port on my win7 64 bit machine running XP mode. when I try to plot with the plotter set to an HP plotter the
port selection isn't there for the serial adapter. But if I plot to my local usb printer it does which is only letter size. How do I find this port? I also have it installed in win7 and it shows up as com 4 in device manager. In XP it doesn't show up as a
com port
But there are two Virtual usb drivers. After much reading I understand there re only two usb ports in Virtual mode, I assume that is why my device manager shows two Virtual usb drivers. Any way is there a way to get my plotter connected?

Hi all,

At work, we have recently got some new software (MARS) to run our CNC machines. The software came with a 'Hardlock Key' which plugs into a parallel port, MARS will only open when this 'key' is inserted into the parallel port.

The cable coming from the CNC machine connects to a serial port, so we have bought a USB Serial Parallel adapter (Prolific PL2303 or something along them lines). The problem we are having is that MARS will not run when the 'Key' is inserted into the USB Serial Parallel, and the error message 'Hardlock not found' is shown. The USB Serial Parallel is under COM3 (can be changed) and MARS will not run, However when the 'key' is directly plugged into the parallel port on the back of the computer MARS will open and run correctly.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get everything working, it would be greatly appreciated!

After initially installing the provided software and plugging in the adapter, I could not find my home network using the Belkin Wireless Utility, I could only see several secure local networks (indicating that the adapter at least was working).

However, after uninstalling and reinstalling the software, Windows refuses to identify the adapter, with a system tray window stating that a device that I have plugged in has malfunctioned, and directing me to the USB root hub, which defines the adapter as an unknown device, furthermore the Belkin software now displays no connections whatsoever. In addition, the LED on the adapter is not on when it is plugged in.

I am running Windows XP SP2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have trawled the internet and exhausted my own ideas as to what the problem could be. After emailing Belkin, I was twice sent an automated response telling me to disable WLANcfg.exe, although I can't find any such program in the system directory or elsewhere.

"... the LED on the adapter is not on when it is plugged in."

Assuming that's a power LED, that could be a dead adapter. Plug it into a USB in another computer and see if the power LED comes on.

Hey guys,
Well not being totally up with the play with wireless, I went out and brought a Belkin Wireless G+ MIMO USB adapter thinking it would be fine to connect my desktop pc to the household internet. Everything works, connects fine, but as soon as you try to do multiple things ie. download a file or talk on msn while browsing it drops the connection, usually requiring disable/re-enable to get it to connect again. I am assuming this may be because the router doesnt support MIMO. The router is not mine and I do not have physical access to it so I don't know what it is but it is an older model. So is there any way I can disable the MIMO function or do I have to bite the bullet and buy another adpater?
ps. my laptop with an Atheros wireless chipset connects fine no problems at all

A:Is it possible to disable MIMO on belkin G+ usb adapter?

Actually, this has nothing to do with MIMO, I think you're chasing phantoms here.

I seem to have fallen into a problem that lots of users are having in this forum, My Belkin F5D7050 Usb adapter was working fine until a few days ago where it stopped being recognized by Windows 7 Ultimate. I have tried many things recommended here from uninstalling the USB ports to installing Version 3.xx drivers(Mine is a 4.xx) but nothing seems to work. Also the Belkin adapter doesnt even appear in the Device manager in Network adapters but is labeled as Unknown device in the USB section.

During the installation, it refuses to recognize the adapter when it asks for it and I get the same message the USB device isnt recognized. The installation completes without it recognizing the adapter but the Belkin Utitlity doesn't even open up. When I try to manually select the driver from the location, it says that Unknown Device is the best driver already installed for the device

Please help, I am currently posting from another computer on which the adapter works easily. This one is running Windows XP if that makes any difference.

I've been using a Belkin wirless adapter on an older laptop and after 20 minutes of use or so it will be hot and Windows will no longer recognise it or use it. I installed all the correct drivers and they appear to be up to date. So I'm not sure what is wrong. It

It seems that if I have it on a USB extender then it becomes unrecognised about 30mins after use.

It's model number is F6D4050 v1
And the 28days to return it to the shop has long passed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Belkin Wireless USB adapter getting hot and being unrecognised

sounds like a faulty unit - it should still be under warranty for a year

have you tried it on any other laptop - that would probably be the next thing i would do

Unlike using this device on an XP machine, plugging it into the USB port does not result in automatic installation.

Vista 64 doesn't seem to have a usable driver installed. Or does it?

So, assuming that there is no pre-installed driver that I can use, where can I find one?

Many thanks.

Hey guys and gals,

I just recently got my computer working after two years in the graveyard :0 but it so happens that my Belkin Wireless G Network Adapter is not working. We have a family computer, which is also Win 7 Home prem 64bit and it works perfectly fine. Except the one i am using (Identical, both operating system and adapter) is not. Any problems with this model I should know about? I know it said that the one I am using is meant for xp - Vista 32 but then how is the family computer able to run it? I know pretty much nothing about internet cards and network adapters, so I might just go buy another high-speed one from Walmart, but would not like to spend $30 dollars on a small piece of plastic.

I have gone to Belkin and talked to the tech support, seems like they have a free download link but when the lady answered the phone, she told me to buy 30 days of tech support for 40 bucks???? What type of service is that? And when i told her about the website she was like "I cannot tell you what to download" and I'm said "ITS ON YOUR SITE!!!" She ended up hanging up.

I tried downloading all of them through my friends Network Adapter (not mine) but none of the patches work and the USB ports dont recongize it as plugged in.

Thanks for reading.

I hope you can help!

Hi. I recently installed Windows Vista home premium x64 on my Athlon 64 system and
plugged in my Belkin F5D7050 wireless G usb adapter, only to find out that,
of course the drivers didn't work. Went online, using my laptop, downloaded the latest and greatest drivers and I installed the driver and the device still doesn't work.
For instance, when I set it to search for wireless networks nearby (which it
should find mine), the activity light on it doesn't even flash once. It
hasn't flashed ever since I plugged it in after installing Vista. So my
question is, is there a driver that would work with my adapter, and if there
isn't could you recommend a low cost wireless usb adapter that would work
with Vista home premium x64? Thank you for your help, sword182.

Here is a link to the drivers - they may need to be installed in compatibility mode with the OS they are written for if you get an OS mismatch error :
To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

hey everyone,

I'm not very knowledgeable in the field of networking, so bear with me. I have a home wireless network set up with a NetComm NB5Plus4 modem router, a Belkin 54g wireless access point and several NetComm NP285 wireless 'homeplugs'. (you plug them into a power socket and one into the router and the others into the back of whatever you want to use wireless on.)

A while back I tried to connect the Homeplug from our PC into my xbox to access xbox live. however, I couldn't get it to work, and after following the instructions on xbox.com and power cycling the router and 54g returned it to the PC. however, when I plugged it back in, the PC said that it had limited or no connectivity. On trying to repair the connection, it could not renew the IP address. The wireless connection works perfectly on our laptop (with its own internal connection to the access point), but when I pinged the 54g's IP the PC and got nothing back except for a message reading "destination host unreachable".

I can't use any internet features at all. I'm using my laptop right now.

I have also tried the release/renew method. It couldn't connect.

any help would be MUCH appreciated as my laptop doesn't run games very well, and has some overheating problems.

thanks in advance

Edit: I pinged the 54g with the laptop and got all of the packets back.

A:Belkin 54g and NetComm Adapter problem

Unplug/plug the np285 adapters to reset them.

I assume the np285 adapters came with a utility program that repairs its connection and it surveys the homeplug network for addressable plugs. Use the utility to enumerate what plugs are still working in the network.
