I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running Win7/Pro x64. My System Spec is in my Profile.

I do not have iTunes installed on my desktop. I do have an iPhone 5, a hand-me-down from my son.

Yesterday the phone needed to be charged. I attached it to a USB port. I was asked by the phone if I trusted my desktop. I said yes. I was told that there were no new images on the phone to import, a fact I already knew. I've encountered this dialog before. It seems to be part of the procrustean Apple way of computing.

What troubles me is that a process started about the time I plugged in the phone. At a rate of 5-10 files/sec the 'modified' date was changed on over 3,500 jpg files on my data drive. I've not analyzed the order in which they were processed but suspect that it was A-Z on the file names and also on folder names.

Could this behavior result from iTunes running its 'sync' process? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again?

If we have no Apple OS experts on this forum, does anyone know of an 'Apple forum' that is as respected as sevenforums is in the Windows world?

thanks

I just got the new iPhone 4S and I have a 3GS as my old phone with no way to transfer my contacts. I was told I could save a backup of my 3GS to itunes, then load the backup onto my 4S.

Well my 3GS won't backup, it keeps saying "iTunes could not backup the iphone because an error occurred" without any error code. I've wiped my old backup, I've cleared sync history. I'm using a PC with itunes with the latest itunes version 10.5.

What can I do to get my contacts over to the new phone?

Hey everyone, I got upgraded to iPhone 4 on Thursday and I followed all the instructions I was supposed to do, (install the newest iTunes and create a MobileMe account) but every time I tried to sync my phone to my windows 7 hp pavilion dv6 laptop I received a number of error messages. Mostly the error messages where "The required file is missing", "the device has timed out", "an error occurred while writing to the device" or "could not back up because back up session failed" - and the most times it gave me the option to completely restore my phone again and so far i have done so 5 times and still the error messages occurred. I also deleted my iTunes (from control panel) and re-installed it again - and also deleted a second time and re-installed the 64bit iTunes. Nothing has seemed to work and I cannot sync any apps, contacts music or files. Although sometimes a few apps showed up on my home screen but whenever I clicked on them they just quickly showed up and dissapeared in a split second. I've been to the Apple store twice so far (with my laptop) and even the genius couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. He replaced my iPhone with a new one and gave me a new cable but the problem is still the same - we also checked my USB ports and they all seemed fine. I called Apple support but they said they aren't specialised in HP laptops so they suggested I contact someone/somewhere else... This is my last hope you guys! Its ... Read more

My daughters iphone no longer shows pops up when she plugs it in, it use to say do you want to download pictures as soon as she connected it to 10. Now it does nothing and does not even show up in devices and drives, I am assuming something got checked that was not checked or the other way around. Same iphone that did work, I don't know about 10 updates.

A:windows 10+ iphone

Apple's Support site shows her how to fix it. You uninstall iTunes and iCloud, then reboot. Download iTunes and iCloud and install. Thr problem is caused when Bonjour service gets hosed up.

Another issue is people getting too happy with trying to over secure their computer, thinking that they are doing theirself a favor.

Windows and iOS devices were never meant to co-exist in a perfect world.

She does not have to plug it into the computer with iOS is able to now sync to iTunes over WiFi.

I personally cannot even remember the last time that I ever connected mine and my wife's iPhones to out laptops to move files. I use a File Explorer app that allows me to connect to Windows Shares whenever I am on our network.

All phone backups go to iCloud Backups.

Old computer died, had to replace with Windows 8 PC which updated to 8.1. Just realized it won't recognize iPhone hookups, which means can't backup or restore iPhone/iPad etc. data, photos, etc.  Great!  Now what?  Any news when patches from either/or Apple or Microsoft will correct this problem?

I'd like to add to those with similiar problems with Windows 8.  I did have compatability problems with Outook 365 and the driver for my HP P1006 lasterjet printer.  However, the tech support from Office 365 was able to help me overcome both issues.  I had called HP support first regarding the printer, and their solution was to "buy a new printer", so booo hisss to HP.  I also found 8.1 is not compatible with my ACT! 2010 database, but it does work somewhat.   Their solution was also to buy the newest version of ACT!, but since that is very costly, I dedided on a better solution:  I'm just using a new database program.

Good luck to all of us with Windows 8.1.  It's pretty slick, but the software headaces are a real problem.  Went thorugh the same thing with Windows 7.

Back to the original subject matter of this post:  If ankbody can help me out with the iPhone/iPad issue I would be very appreciative.  Thanks.

In the device manager, the iPhone SE is being shown as "unknown device" and it doesnt appear in portable devices.

I certainly don't know the "big picture" all that well but if my observations are accurate no one really even knows about Windows Phone. I haven't been in a store yet that gave them much counter-space compared with the iPhone and Android. I think there's an awfully good chance that Windows Phone will remain a small niche player and may eventually disappear. Then where will MS be? They will have written a smartphone front-end and shoved it down the throats of desktop users who will have stuck with Win7 and/or abandoned it for a Mac or something.

We shall see.

I have recently upgraded to windows 8.1 on my hp pavilion x2 11. When I plug in my iphone it now wont connect. Both the phone and the computer make the pinging sound that it has connected and disconnected repeatedly but the computer never recognises the device. I have had it connected before and it will connect a new ipod nano which is in the house. I have used every cable in my house (and some borrowed from others) I have searched for drivers and and downloaded all the hp recommended ones and googled everything and just cannot seem to get any answers. Not being able to back up my phone and move my music around means a big part of what i use the computer for is no longer available Has anyone got any suggestions?

I m unable to connect my iphone in my own HP machine even though it has Itunes installed, and i tried without itunes, also tried many versions of itunes. But when I connected my iphone to my friends Dell Laptop, it smoothly got connected! As it should... 2. I dont have any prob in connecting any other phone in my machine.  But its certainly NOT apple's iPhone fault. I even posted out my query on Apple forum:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6345808  please please solve this issue..

Hey all,

Im having a little trouble with iTunes and my iPhone on Windows 7 Ultimate. For some reason when ever i plug in my iPhone to my PC, it will recognize it as a Digital Camera, which it is ment to do, but won't be recognized in iTunes. I tested my iPod Classic 80GB just to make sure there wasnt any other problems but fortunatly itunes recognized it straight away.

My current PC spec is:
- Windows 7 Ultimate
- AMD Athlon 2 x2 2.90GHz
- GeForce GTS 250 1GH
- 4GB RAM (2x 2GB DDR2)
- 500GB SATA 32MB Cache HDD
- Bullguard 9.0 Beta Antivirus (Firewall Off)
- Zonealarm Firewall

I have now been looking on the internet for the last serveral hours for help and advice but nothing so far has worked.

So far i have tried:
- Uninstalling all apple software and restarting the computer, then reinstalling itunes (didnt work)
- Reinstalling the drivers (didnt work)
- Installing iTunes 9 32-Bit, which worked and detected the iphone but only came up with a message saying that i needed to install the 64bit version, which shows in a way that itunes and windows 7 can see it.

I really am now stuck as to what it might be, so anyone that can help me, i will be highly gratefull.

When I have searched the MS site, this site and others it seems that the most likely problem is a driver incompatibility but I have no idea how to test for this or fix it? I could consider updating all the drivers but if that isn't going to fix the problem may just be a waste of time?

I know its an old computer and probably inferior to the iPhone 4 that I want to connect it to but it has been doing the job and if I just need to do a simple software / driver upgrade that would be great. Otherwise I may have to consider going to the dark side with a new MAC but I really don't want to spend that kind of money

I think I have attached the minidump file (I can't read dmp and wouldn't know what to do with it anyway)

Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Greetings to all members of TechSupport. I am a new member with a new problem. I call it new because, inspite of a lot of surfing, I could not not find a solution to this problem or even a close reference to it. I hope it is of interest to members of TS forum. My apologies to the administrators if I have posted this message on the wrong forum.

I am residing in UAE. I have a lenevo laptop model Z570, running windows 7 home premium, service pack 1. I also have an iphone with a 10 GB per month data package, model 4s, running iOS version 5.1, the latest I assume. I dont have any other internet connection, like broadband etc. I use my iphone data package for my internet use, by the usual method of what is called tethering.

I am not an ITexpert, but I understand a few things, and a little better than a novice. I would need some instructions though not in great detail.

My problem is that I can do anything with the internet connection, that people normally do, except, that I cannot update my windows OS, nor update the Mcafee antivirus that had come along with the laptop. A few notes:

1. My colleague has an HP laptop running windows 7 professional and he is able to update using his iphone. To exclude iphone issues, I tethered my laptop to his iphone, but no success.

2. my laptop updates when I had connected to the usual wireless broadband available at homes, offices shops etc. Actually, I had gone to Carrefour from where I had purchased the laptop, and the person there conne... Read more

A:Windows 7 unable to run windows update on iphone tethering

Welcome to TSF! I assume you are using IE to browse the web, right? Try opening the windows update site and see if it loads. If it loads all the way, u should be directed to a page that advices you to use the Windows Update feature in Control Panel. Am also curious. Whenever you connect to a network, windows asks you to place that connection in a category, either Trusted, Home, Public etc (not sure about all the categories). These categories are crucial because they decide how the windows firewall regulates network access of various windows components and programs. Which category have u placed your tether connection? The McAfee suite that u run, does it include a firewall, or it's the antivirus package only? The reason am asking is because these bundled security softwares sometimes come with firewalls that may not have the windows update sites in their exception lists. About mcafee not updating, does it allow you to register and activate? Usually it prompts you to activate before it can update. The registration process requires internet connectivity. Also check proxy settings on mcafee if there are any, and make sure they are set to direct connection AND NOT PROXY.

(apologies for the long post ^^")

I would like to begin by saying that I have read this topic but while it covered some of the symptoms of my problem, not all of them were mentioned, so I thought instead of pushing up another person's thread, I'd create my own.

I have a PC running Windows XP Home edition in French (not that the language matters, but anyway). I've had it for 4 years now and it's always worked like a charm. For the record, it does have USB 2.0 ports - six of them.

But in March this year I acquired an iPhone 3G and things started to go wrong a bit.

First of all, I noticed while I could connect it to my computer and sync it normally (like I had always done with my also 4 years old iPod Nano), unlike previous Apple devices I had owned, the iPhone would not charge. I thought meh, I can charge it with my A/C adapter, so whatever. I noticed my girlfriend's more recent Nano and my sister's iPod Touch behaved strangely when connected to my computer, too (constantly connecting, disconnecting, reconnecting etc. making them impossible to sync). But both these people have their own computer and don't need mine to sync their iPods, so again I didn't make a big deal out of it.

Until a month and a half ago.

I don't know what happened at that point, but my iPhone stopped responding to being connected to my computer. So did ALL the other Apple devices mentioned earlier. I have absolutely no idea what the cause of that is. ... Read more

Hello,

The Windows Debugging Tools aren't able to access symbols for your operating system files (in particular NTOSKRNL.EXE / NTKRNLMP.EXE / NTKRNLPA.EXE / NTKRPAMP.EXE) from the Microsoft Symbol Server - so that makes debugging them difficult if not impossible.

Please do the following:
- activate/validate the Windows installation at Genuine Microsoft Software
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- open a support incident with Microsoft to see if they can fix the missing symbols issue ( Windows 7 Solution Center )
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds

Hope this helps,
Captain

Welcome to Seven Forums!

I have had no issues receiving emails from iPhone users in Windows Live Mail, but some people have reported similar problems. I'm not aware of any fixes at the moment, but more people reporting these issues might up the priority of finding a fix.

Are you using Hotmail, or are you using Windows Live Mail as a client for another email provider?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'll start here. I'm running windows 7, 32 bit and I have an iPhone4 with most recent OS. Yesterday I mistakenly shut down the computer while iPhone was backing up/syncing with iTunes. Today when I attach the iPhone, the computer does not recognize it. iTunes DOES recognize the iPhone, just not windows explorer. When I attach my iPad, the computer does recognize the iPad. I did a Windows system restore and a reset of iphone that erased all settings, but that didn't help. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

A:Windows explorer does not read iPhone

Follow below procedure, make sure that your iphone is connected to your computer with iphone data cable!!
1. Download DiskAid which is a free iPhone Explorer [ Lets you explore your iphone files and folder ]
2. Install and Run DiskAid it will automatically detect iphone and navigate to the camera photos folder on your iphone
Hope this helps
You could also try removing/uninstalling it through Device Manager. Then plug it back into your PC and windows should pick it up as a new device

Hello

When I connect my iPhone (which is new) to my laptop, it says there is no driver installed. I have the updated version of iTunes and have un-installed and reinstalled it two times, still no success.

I put images similar to what shows up when I try to update the driver. I am the administrator of the account.
My iPhone 4g still connects to my laptop and i can still sync it but it isn't shown as an imaging device.
My hard drive, flash disks and mouse connects and works with the laptop but new flash disks sometimes don't.
The iPhone does connect to other laptops

Appreciate any help given, Thanks

A:Why isn't my iPhone 5s installing on my laptop (windows 7)?

Hi and welcome to sevenforums,
Not sure why but have you tried using clean boot,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/179159-troubleshoot-application-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Traditionally if you use iTunes installed on the pc and on the iphone you need to be signed into both using the same apple account,
iPhone - Syncing - Apple Support
But for the most part you should be able to click start and computer,
The power on and Unlock your device and eventually windows will install the driver and the device will appear usually as a iphone or what ever storage device is being used,
Cheers.

Hello,

I recently plugged in a friends iphone (bob) and accidentally pressed import files rather than explore. In the autorun menu.

Now when I plug my iPhone in, Windows is saying that Bob's iPhone is plugged in, instead of mine.

Which is rather weird. Any ideas how to fix/reset to default?

My phone is named correctly in iTunes and that recognizes it correctly.

A:Reset iPhone name (in windows, not iTunes)

Any ideas?

Ok... so here it is. I am new here, and I want to set up my windows 7 laptop so I can vpn into my XP pro shares. I have the VPN server started on my XP machine, I have the router configured to allow pptp to pass through, and the vpn client set up on the laptop, it is connected to the internet via iphone tethering, and that connection works. The home network address is 192.168.0.X. I am not sure what ip to enter into the client when it asks, do I enter the Ip of the XP machine? or the routers address? I would imagine its the routers address, its the only one that is unique. Sorry if this info is all jumbled around..... the router is also set up to port forward, port 1723. When it asks for an ip in this section, I entered the Ip of the XP machine, and it also asks for a computer name, here I also used the xp's name. Any ideas? I am stumped, every attempt has failed. Thanks so much.

I can't seem to find what I'm looking for in the forms, but can anyone recommend software or a tutorial that would help me manage my photos on my iPhone 4s using my Windows 7 based PC? Is this even possible? I don't understand much about the iso OS!
Thanks

I found out an issue on two DELL computers, I wanted to post it here if anybody else comes across the same isse. Hope this is ok with you guys.

iPhone is a Dominant Design though ;-) Started to test Windows 7 and discovered that the iPhone and iTunes got a problem with it. Windows 7 wants to install the iPhone as MTP USB Device, which fails. iTunes want's to access the iPhone (responds with Error 0xE8000065) and starts to freeze. Unfortunately the Windows Media Player 12.0.1700.0 freezes as well.

I guess Apples Service and the MTP Protocol from Windows are fighting against? The MTP USB Device is always being tried to be installed by Windows 7, with no luck. Somebody has a solution for this?

--- Solution ---
Finally fixed it. I don't trust DELL internal USB HUB's.

I guess what happens is the following, the chipset of the DELL USB Hubs seems to add nonsense characters to the iPhone DeviceID (VID_05AC&PID_1292) in my case it added a 2nd Device plus "&MI_00" (VID_05AC&PID_1292&MI_00). Resulting in two devices being "connected". While this might be OK - I'm not a HW Person - it lead to Windows 7 believe the second is a standard MTP Device. Whilst the DeviceID has not been used for the second, I guess it run's over the deviclass (Class_06&SubClass_01&Prot_01).

So it's trying to install it twice and as a 2nd MTP Device which then results in the protocol clash & timeouts between Apple USB Driver and Windows trying to speak ov... Read more

A:Windows 7, iPhone and DELL USB Chpiset

sounds like alot of fun!
actually no but wow.. Dell needs to do something about their computers. If they can't connect to iPhones there will be alot of unhappy customers. Not everyone is good with computers, half the population would probably hire someone to fix it.
