Q: G500 series (G575, etc) upgrade to Windows 10 issu...

Its a bit unclear if the G 500 series is 100% good to go for a Windows 10 upgrade? The series doesn't seem to be on the Lenovo "good to upgrade" list, but Microsoft during its "compatibility review" seems to say "go ahead 100% of your apps work flawlessly with Windows 10...upgrade today...." Once you upgrade the "challenges" begin, audio doesn't work "out of the box", so you go to a generic driver to get it back. Video sort of works but oddly, the brightness control seems conflict in Windows 10 with the hardware key sequence Fn up arrow /Fn down arrow and at the end of the day there is only one brightness level - "medium", which can't be changed. You head to AMD, get sucked into downloading the BETA level of upgraded drivers, and suddenly you have 200 megs of programs related to gamers and surprizingly, the same old video drivers (without brightness control). Have not really tested video playback but intital attempts, usi,ng bluetooth to output the audio have been challenging. Not sure what the cause is but I suspect "lack of tuning" in the software. Responsibilty for drivers and compatiblity seems to be a jump shot, is Lenovo responsible for the drivers? the video chip maker (AMD)? Or the audio chip maker (Conexant) ? Or did MSFT agree to write updated drivers or provide E-Z tools and migration software for device driver coders so they could update thier software? Seems a fair amount of "finger pointing" , and "real compatibility" is nowhere near 100% just yet. So far I'm pretty impressed with general software compatibility with Windows 10. Its still early for me after upgrading (a couple of days ago), but so far application software has not been an issue. G575 is not a new machine, so its understandable if Lenovo needs to concentrate on newest models and sales next quarter. However I'm sure there are a lot of G500 series still very much in daily use and most of them will (eventually) upgrade to windows 10. Would be great to have fully functioning drivers. Would love to hear about brighness controled video, audio that has they typical tray level controller that works well, and any tips for running video under Windows 10. Perhaps others have found suitable workarounds?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all,

My Lenovo G575 is a few years old, but still works. I have only 1 RAM memory slot soldered onto motherboard. Windows 10 is installed, but quite slow on the internet. Can i upgrade RAM memory from 4gb 1066 speed to one single 8gb card? will it use 8gb or just 4gb? Any options to make internet faster, as i do have BT Fibre and only a few metres from router?

From the parts list of the Maintenance Manual - your computer will only accept 4gb modules.  If you only have one socket on the motherboard, you are limited to a single 4gb stick.  Usually the system has the option for two memory modules, so I would suggest contacting Lenovo support by phone to discuss this situation.

Hi All, I have run out of ideas to resolve my problem and hoping the Lenovo forums can help. I have  a Lenovo G575 laptop (1GHz AMD C-50 CPU, 4GB RAM (motherboard has a single slot only)) and have replaced the harddrive with a 120GB SSD (Link to Integral P Series SSD on Amazon). I have performed a fresh install of Windows 10 (using the Windows USB/DVD Creation Tool) and all is well until I shutdown the laptop. Upon starting the laptop again, I see the lenovo splash screen and the boot process stops. I am left with a black screen and a flashing cursor. So for some reason the laptop refuses to boot a fresh Windows 10 install from the SSD drive. If I replace the new SSD with the original mechanical harddrive (which was automatcially upgraded to Windows 10), then the laptop boots into Windows 10 no problem. The only way I can get into windows is to insert the Windows 10 installation media (either USB or DVD), boot from there and then choose 'Repair' and 'Continue to Windows 10' at which point the OS loads fine. However, if I try to reboot or shutdown then I get stuck on the blank screen with the flashing cursor. FYI, the hardrive is partitioned with MBR (and not GPT) so I am somewhat confident this isn't a legacy BIOS/UEFI issue. The BIOS options are pretty basic and there is no mention of a legacy BIOS option. I have tried everything I can think of including:- Running the 'Startup Repair' utility on the Windows 10 installation media- Runni... Hi there. I've installed a clean version of Windows 10 Home 64 bit, and, noticed that, with the basic Microsoft display adapter driver, I would be able to adjust screen brightness and would get maximum resolution as well. How ever, even though I disabled automatic driver updating in Windows before I first connected my laptop to the internet, it still proceeded to download a driver that it got via Windows update which ruins the adjusting of brightness. I tried to install the 64-bit Windows 8 driver that is available at support.lenovo.com but that one has the same problem, I can't adjust screen brightness when using it. Neither did the latest Windows 10 Radeon HD 6xxxM driver by AMD off of their website help at all. Everything else works perfectly fine in terms of Windows 10 except for adjusting of brightness, and, I am unable to stop Windows from constantly updating the graphics card driver via Windows Update despite the setting found in System Properties. As such, the laptop is, largely useless, and, has wasted loads of my time. It's a shame really, as, I invested loads into this laptop, and, though it's perfectly capable of running Windows 10, the fact that I can't adjust screen brightness wrecks everything. I have even installed the Energy Management driver, but, that doesn't help anything either. Could someone, please, advise me of some way through which I could make Windows simply STAY at the Basic Microsoft Display Adapter driver, or, w... Hey Greg,

Since the SSD would be the same standard 2.5" size of the HDD in the laptop, you shouldn't have any issues swapping them.

The metal tray that holds the hard drive will have side screws that will work with the SSD as well. Just make sure that the SATA connection lines up before screwing the SSD on the tray though to avoid having to flip it afterwards. LOL

Hello there, I own a Lenovo G500, a 2013 model, and I just bought a 2 x 4GB 1600 MHz Kingston HyperX DDR3L memory kit.I pulled the old 4 GB memory out and put the new cards in, but both my Windows 7 and the BIOS see only one of them, so the laptop only uses 4 GB of RAM.I tried putting the cards in one by one, the bottom slot works, but when I only use the top slot, the laptop does not boot. It's likely this is the problem, cause even CPU-Z only sees RAM in one of the slots and displays "Single Channel" running. My question would be: is there a possibility this is a software issue? Is there a way to enable dual channel? If not, could this be a motherboard issue? Thank you. Regards,Darren

Greetings to everyone

I’ve been experiencing issues with my Pioneer DVR K06 slim DVDRW drive that is connected to my HTPC. Being a slim laptop drive I have attached a sata adapter which is detected in the bios, and allows me to boot from the disc, but when booting into Windows 7 x86 & the drive is missing and the boot time takes a long time.

I have tried all the tutorials in regards to missing DVD drive in Windows 7 but none of them seem to work. It takes a lot longer to load windows then usual boot time and if I insert a disc just before the windows boot sequence starts it detects the drive and boots into windows a lot faster with the drive detected.

Has anyone experienced the same problem and manage to find a solution to fix it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have run out of options and have absolutely no idea. I have been pointed out that it might be a DMA issue but unsure how to disable or modify the DMA

Below are two snap shots of regedit and device manager

So, my son's Lenovo G575 from 2011 had recently had critical parts of it die for no visual reason. Those parts are the Hard drive and the CD drive. The g575 had an AMD Vision processor, and a Western Digital Scorpio Blue Hard drive with 320 gb, which is the hard drive the computer came with. I don't know what model or brand the CD Drive is, and I will explain my situation now. The CD Drive didn't die recently actually. It died like 3 or 4 years ago. When you press the eject button, it makes multiple clicking noises an won't open. My son didn't do anything to damage the drive. The only way to open it is by putting a paper clip in the emergency hole. And when you put a disk in, it tries to read for a second, before making a clicking noise and not reading the disk. Now the Hard drive. It died recently, about a month ago, and it died while sitting in our storage closet. The OS that it came with was Windows 7, which we later upgraded to Windows 10. My son was using it, and ever since he got his Lenovo G50-70, he used that as his main computer, leaving the g575 to sit in the storage closet. When he put it in the closet, everything was working fine. But then he wanted to recover the product key, since he scraped off and ripped the sticker as a little kid. But when he turns it on, he see's "No boot disk detected, check cable connection.". We opened the laptop and saw that the hdd was connected properly to the laptop. Also when the hdd tries to read, it makes a loud clicking noise. I ... Read more

hi Zigas,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try these Settings in you BIOS
Inside BIOS
    Under Boot Tab
          Change Boot mode to Legacy
           USB Boot should be enabled
    Under Security
Secure Boot Has to Be disabled

In case the options above are grayed out in your BIOS, Got to Exit Tab and Change OS Optimized Default to Other OS
and check the options again.

Once All are Set Make sure to save all changed by hitting F10 and enter for Yes

I suggest you Reinstall Windows 7 again after these settings

Hope this helps

Hi, I have just encountered a serious problem. Just a couple of days after windows 10 installation, I cannot turn my laptop on anymore. Basically, it remains stuck at "Lenovo" screen, and it does not proceed any longer. Does anyone have any tip/solution? I am a kind of desperate.Roger

Trying to upgrade my old but good 3000 series J1115 all in one desktop.  It's gong to be used to run a small business. Here's what I have already done (awhile back):1) Upgraded power supply2) Upgraded RAM to 2 2GB3) 1 TB HD4) Restored the os to factory defaults (done today) Here's what I want to do:1) Install windows 7 and bring it up to date2) Update the Lenovo (drivers??, BIOS??, etc.) The problem I am having is that I cannot find info for my computer.  I am not super computer savvy, but am trying to follow directions that I find.  I have not installed the win 7 yet.  I didn't know if I needed to update anything on the computer first.  It is completely reset back to factory settings.  Any input on what I could do to get this ol' dinosaur in shape would be helpful.  I also installed and am using Firefox as my browser.  Thanks for any pointers!

A:3000 Series J1115 Upgrade

Hi JVK,

you might want to look at this thread to find where obtain the User Guide and Hardware Maintenance Manual which may contain some useful informaion for you.

The system was discontinued before Windows 7 came onto the market so please ensure you are able to install the original OS if needed as drivers were never developed for it by Lenovo.

That said I'm pretty sure Windows 7 will install and run on the J115 without any great problems surprising you.  My tip; give it a go on a spare HDD, if you have one, and if any drivers are missing try and find appropriate drivers or install the Vista drivers in compatability mode if nothing else works.  Alternatively attach a drive as secondary which has Vist installed and tell Windows 7 through device manager to search that drive for drivers.

Hope that all makes sense.  Do let us know how you get on, I'm sure others will be interested to know and also ready to help out if you do hit some difficulties and have questions.
