I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I'm having trouble with my NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5650 in my Asus notebook. I believe it to be trouble with the drivers, as i've had trouble there before. I'm using old Omega drivers presently and it does run, i've actually had little trouble until trying Titan Quest and Oblivion. Both of these games are within my system specs (see attached), but Titan quest is choppy and slow on the lowest video option and Oblivion couldn't even handle the character creation page (i was at about half of one fps.) I've looked all over for new drivers but nothing seems to be compatable for me, so i'm using drivers that are about 3 years old.

If anyone knows of anywhere to look for newer drivers, or perhaps has insight into what else might be a problem, I'd really appreciate it.

thanks for you time,

-deskpot.

A:Video Card Drivers for notebooks

Both of those games are NOT within your system specs.

There is really nothing you can do besides buying a new computer to make those games work.
Your video card is a 64 MB integrated laptop video card, which will not be able to handle any new games.

Laptop video cards are nothing compared to desktop video cards; a 64 MB laptop video card is not the same as a desktop 64 MB video card.

On looking at various 512Mb boards I see that some of them are PCI express 2.0 x16 instead. Is the 2.0, whatever that distinction is, compatible with and usable with my motherboard/computer, or does the slot and/or other hardware features have to be different to utilize this 2.0 version?

I just bought a HP Pavilion tx2525nr that has a Express Card/34 PC Card Slot.
I was told that the Clearwire Express card would be compatable, but it turns out the Clearwire card is an Express 54.

Is there an adaptor that will allow me to use the Clearwire Express 54 with the HP Express Card/34 PC Card Slot that my laptop notebook has?

If not an adapter, is there another viable solution?

I have thinkpad w530 w windows 8.1 I am trying to capture video footage into my computer using a firewire card that of course plugs into the MEDIA CARD READER SLOT. I can't get the computer to recognize my camcorder- the camcorder connection does not show up in DEVICE MANAGER I am using HDVSPLIT to capture the video and also in hdvsplit there is a message, "camera not recognized" or something like that.  I am not sure if the media card reader is bad, or maybe the firewire card is bad or maybe it is the hdv split that is the problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

A:How do I tell if my Media Card Reader/Express card slot is functioning correctly?

Hello,

Could it be the ExpressCard slot that the FireWire card plugs into?  I've never seen a FireWire card that plugs into the media card slot used for SD Cards.

FireWire cards can be a little tricky to get working sometimes, especially when interfacing with a camcorder.

Have you checked with the manufacturer to see if Windows 8.1 drivers are available for it?  Even if they are not, it may be possible to use Windows 7 or even Windows Vista drivers.

Once you have verified that the FireWire card is recognized, plug the camcorder in again, amd see if it gets recognized.  If it does not, check with its manufacturer for Windows 8.1 drivers, just like you did with the FireWire card.

At that point, the hardware should all be working with Windows 8.1.

Regards,

Okay, I did something really stupid. It was late, I was in the dark, and I wasn't paying attention (obviously) so here's what happened...

I had a SanDisk 2GB Micro SD Memory Card that I was using in my cell phone.
I wanted to transfer some pics & photos from my computer to the phone, so I decided to stick it in the Express Card slot of my laptop. Simple enough, right?

....Well being the incredibly smart person that I am, I put the micro memory card in the adapter, but it was the wrong one. So my computer pretty much swallowed it whole. I can't get it back out.
Now I can't use the Express Card slot in my computer AT ALL, because the old one is still stuck in there. You can't really see it, but if you try to put another adapter in there, it won't "click". It won't go all the way because ... the old one I lost is still in there waiting to be rescued, haha.

So my question is: How do I get the memory card out of my computer??

I tried taking it apart, but I couldn't get the part of where the express card slot is, so that was no good. There's a way to do this, I know. I'm just not smart enough to figure it out on my own. Which is probably a good thing, because I might mess it up again, lol.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7416 laptop.
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

-Ashley

Hello, and thank you for checking out my post.  My apologies for writing a book, but I'm hoping to give as much detail as needed the first go round. I just received my custom-built T420s (4170-CTO) and have a couple technical questions/concerns about it.  The details of my configuration are located at the bottom of this post. First off, one of the deciding factors of my purchase was the discrete graphics card.  On the T420s I chose NVIDIA NVS 4200M Optimus Graphics 1GB, Intel Core i7-2620M Processor?.  I was thrilled to have more than 256 MB of dedicated graphics memory for my games.  Upon receiving my laptop, though, I ran the Windows Experience Index and saw that the lowest score was the graphics card, which is identified as Intel HD Graphics Family and has 64 MB of dedicated graphics memory.  After my heart started beating again I checked Device Manager and found under Display both Intel HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA NVS 4200M listed as working with up-to-date drivers.  When I configured the laptop online there was no mention of hybrid graphics, so I'm not sure why I have an Intel Graphics card on the machine.  My current laptop that I was looking to replace is a T61p with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card, and only that NVIDIA card is shown under Device Manager and in the Windows Experience / Performance Information.  Thinking that perhaps disabling the Intel card would cause the NVIDIA card to take over, I disa... A:T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question...

The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. Hi,

The file server I am currently using, is running on an old MS-7173 motherboard which (for some reason) is only kicking out about 45MB/s maximum throughput on file transfers, even though the CPU isn't anywhere near full. I am using a spare (I think cheap) Gigabit Network Card in the system at the moment which I had laying around.

I am considering getting an "Intel Gigabit PRO/ 1000CT PCIe Desktop Adapter" however, according to the specifications the card runs "PCI Specification Revision PCIe 1.1".

From the motherboard specifications, it uses: "One PCI Express x 1 slot. (supports PCI Express Bus specification v1.0a compliant) ".
My question is: Will that PCIe Card with revision v1.1 work in a motherboard with a v1.0a slot?

Thanks for your answers

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

I'm just wondering if there is a way to hook up a note book to a T.V. so that you can play a DVD through it.

A:T.V.'s & Notebooks

Welcome to TSG!

Yes, if the notebook has a S-Video port or HDMI port it supports connecting a TV. Some video adapters has a TV out function VGA port, this would require a VGA to S-Video adapter. Note that this adapter will only work if the video card supports it, it will not convert a VGA signal to S-Video.
The Laptop User Guide should have a section on how to connect to a TV if that is supported.

Some TV's may have a VGA Input that let's you use them as a monitor, so you can connect a PC without having to have a TV out feature. THe TV's user guide would have info on this.

A:Which one of these 3 notebooks would you buy

I happen to be doing some research for buying a laptop myself however I'm mostly looking for Centrino-based notebooks that offer a longer battery life... you seem to be looking for a desktop replacement with gaming on mind (which sets you at a very high price range).

But since you seem rather comfortable paying for those notebooks you mentioned, I would say the Alienware would be my first choice, it's the most expensive, too and you don't mention what's the videocard (Geforce Go 6800, I think), I especially like the 17" screen.

If you don't mind the smaller screen, the Dell gets close enough although for a mere ~$200 extra, I would go for the Alienware. I definitely like the battery options in the Dell something which you should look closely in anything you buy.

The HP system looks nice but the X600 videocard is not a gamers' choice so beware of that.

Reason I'm into this is because my sister wants one for school, but after it's over she doesn't want it anymore. So what I was wondering is - is it possible to install a MAC OS onto a Notebook PC? And how well would it work? Also, what if we were to do it the other-way around & install a Windows OS on the Mac?

A:MAC & PC Notebooks.

You cannot install MacOSX (legally) on anything other then a Mac so this will not be discussed here.

You can however install Windows XP (& maybe other versions) on a Mac in a perfectly legal manner with the Bootcamp software made available on the Apple website.

I see them on Gateway and Toshiba, not sure what other companies offer them. A girl working at Best Buy, where they had the Gateway systems on display, said that they see them coming in with alot of problems. Something about not quite having the technology worked out between the monitor and base - buggy connection or something.

I've never even used a tablet pc - they were always way over priced in my mind. The idea of combining the two, tho, is neat. I don't really want to be a beta tester, tho, unless they want to GIVE me one to test for them. hehe

I've been pricing out new laptops for college, and I've read a few HP recommendations on other computer forums. I checked out the HP site, and customized a dv9500t, and was pretty suprised at what all I could cram into it for the price.

Here's what I built, for $2,157 (2 year accidental damage warranty included in price)

Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/4MB L2Cache) (Santa Rosa right?)

17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)

2GB Ram

511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

200GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive 100GB x 2

LightScribe DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer

High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

To me, it seems like an amazing computer for the price, not to mention that it'll have the new Intel Centrino Pro processor. Does anybody have any feedback on HP? They're ranked pretty high in consumer reports and have a pretty common respectable name. I may be missing something, but this notebook seems to beat out anything I could get for the same price from somewhere like Dell or Alienware.

Just wanted some feedback. I won't be actually ordering a laptop till late August, so maybe things will have changed a bit by then.

Hi all. Well it seems I've learned another lesson the hard way. I ordered a 256mb SODIMM PC100 32x64 for my Thinkpad 600x 2465. WRONG! I had no idea that notebook memory was so picky., as this is the first laptop I've ever owned, so I did not bother to do my homework before ordering. In hindsight, I should have checked the existing memory stick for the make and ID numbers associated with each chip on the SODIMM to see waht speed it actually is. It already had a 64mb Kingston KTM-TP390X/64 8m x 16. Needless to say when I put the 32x64 SODIMM in there, it wouldn't even POST. I have a couple of questions on this. What does the "32 x 64" mean. Why are these SODIMMS so particular. I mean there seems to be an endless variety of 144 pin modules out there. It also seems the older the SODIMM, the more rare it is, and thus, more expensive! A 8m x 16 stick seems sort of rare, as not many sites like Newegg and tigerdirect carry that type anymore. Crucial and Kingston carry it, but I would like to know if there is another way to find out about compatibility besides filling in the "memory chooser" drop down menus. I'd like to shop around for a stick. I made the mistake of ordering before I knew the whole story, and now I have to return it, and I'm not sure if they have a compatible type in their stock(computergeeks dot com). I'll probably end up having to give them a re-stocking fee and only get part of my money back. I hope someone else c... Read more

A few questions that I have been trying to determine for some time.

1. What is the best way to get the dust out of a laptop? Mainly acer ones, they are usually the name brand we use.

2. Can excessive dust in a laptop really slow down program performance that much?

3. At my home, I'm paying for a 20MB download connection. If I have a laptop hooked up to my linksys wireless router and it’s the only computer on. Should I get the full 20MB or will I get about 80% of that since I'm going through a router?

4. Would it be better to just use an ethernet cable or wireless for overall speed reliability?

A:4 question's about notebooks

1. Can of compressed air.

2. When I worked for the school district I had a Compaq NX6000 and I literally had to take it apart to clean it. The Heatsink would get so full of dust the cpu and gpu would start over heating.

3. A wired network card can be 100Mb or even Gigabit speed. Most newer wireless cards are 54Mb or faster. So your lan speed will always be faster than your Internet Connection.

4. Wired connection is probably always going to offer better reliability but I don't think it makes a difference when access things over the Internet.

I have a 2 year-old laptop and a 6 month-old netbook. I recently read that if my mobile notebooks are always plugged in to a power source,(and mine are 99% of the time) the battery should not be in the equipment. It read they should be removed and stored away. Is this true? If so, my question, is it to late to remove these batteries and put them away for safe keeping? Are they slowly being drained away plugged into the notebook? Thanks for all your help here!

Need Assistance I forgetten HP EliteBook 820 G1 Notebook Bios Password , Please assist me guide how do i reset BIOS password Best Regards

A:HP Notebooks x2 Go bios

Hi, Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

I'm trying to fix a compaq presario notebook model 1620 for a
friend. The AC power adapter plug got poped into the notebook
and I'm trying to figure out how to get to it. I've got everthing
out of the case (that I need) except for the floppy drive. I can't
figure out how to get the rest of the top off (the piece at the top
that holds the monitor on). If anyone knows what I should do or
would like more info or even a picture just let me know. And I
know most of you will probably say take it to a service center,
but my friend doesn't have that kind of cash and I'm trying to
help him out.

thanx

Is it possible to interconnect two notebooks using a crossover cable (with RJ-45s at each end) and be able to access the internet line that is connected to one of them without using a modem? I have succeeded in linking them via wireless but cannot connect to the internet on both with one line. Please advise.

Just configure ICS on the one with the Internet connection and leave the other one at the default configuration.

I would like to install Mac OS on my HP Notebook 15-ay112ne , anybody can tell me if it is possible or not ?...And what about device drivers , how I can install them on MAC OS?

A:HP Notebooks very bad with Windows 10

Beyond the scope of this Forum, but what you are trying to do is called a Hackintosh or CustomMac.  This is the leading Forum for people who do that, who are a cult all unto themselves. https://www.tonymacx86.com/ The hardware in the laptop generally has to be something that the Mac OS supports, i.e. it has to be similar to one of the Mac computers.  I have tried a couple Hackintoshes and it is a lot of work and not very stable.  If you don't like Windows 10 you might want to consider Linux. Much easier to install and supports a much wider variety of hardware.  Good luck you are gonna need it.

A:4 questions about notebooks

1. I wouldn't worry about it, if you can't get to it with canned air, then it likely isn't a big issue.

2. Only if its preventing the CPU from maintaining a normal temperature, if it gets too high the CPU will throttle down.

3. The router won't slow up your connection, it is likely 100 or 1000Mbps, so a max out on your dl of 20 is well within its capabilities. If you see 80% it is your ISP and or the servers you are connecting to.

4. Wired, but even 802.11g is over twice as fast as your 20Mbps down, so in theory it wouldn't make any difference. But I've always felt like things are quicker wired even if they shouldn't be.

I am looking for a PCI Express X1 USB 2.0 card that has an internal pin out like shown in the attached picture (in yellow). I need this so I can add an extra USB panel to my computer but do not have space left on my board for USB ports. Any recommendations? I prefer X1 type but X16 would as well, if such card would even exist.

I really appreciate the help, I've looked everywhere I can and only find plain PCI cards with this however my board does not have PCI slots. :\

Thanks in advance!
