After Installing latest patch - GTA IV will not run

Q: After Installing latest patch - GTA IV will not run

so I bought GTA IV , thinking that my system would be close to having the required specs.
Installed the game and found that I had graphics issues. So them did the usual updated drivers,
and downloaded game patches. The result? now the game won't load.

I went to the "Can You Run It" site and it tells me that my video card isn't good enough,
but the stats it lists , all pass. So color me confused. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Video Card
Minimum: 256MB NVIDIA 7900+ / 256MB ATI X1900+ You Have: GeForce 7300 LE
Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card
Required
Video RAM 256 MB
3D Yes
Hardware T&L Yes
Pixel Shader version 3.0
Vertex Shader version 3.0

You Have
Video RAM 512.0 MB
3D Yes
Hardware T&L Yes
Pixel Shader version 3.0
Vertex Shader version 3.0
Upgrade Suggested: Unfortunately, your Video Card does not meet this requirement. Click here to see some recommendations.

So there must be some other specs that aren't listed that my card doesn't match because according to what i see my card should be good enough.

thanks for any input.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

After the Anniversary update on our two PCs, I find that Homegroup will not connect the two. One is running Pro 64-bit and the other runs Home 32-bit.

I can leave the Homegroup on my PC (Pro) and on the other. Then I create a new Homegroup on my PC and get the password. However, the other PC does not see any Homegroup to join on the network (only the option to create a new Homegroup). I never had any problem with this prior to the update.

If I select My Computer, I can 'see' the other PC but when I select 'Open' and box comes up with ID and Password. My PC is the only one of the two that is password protected. The Home PC boots right to the desktop.

Anyone having the same issue or know of a workaround?

Thanks.

I need some major help with the latest Windows Update (the set of patches that came out this Tuesday to help with the security issues), I think it is causing issues for my laptop PC. I'm not computer illiterate but I'mdefinitely nothing more than a beginner and this is starting to make me panic a little ^_^;

My laptop has been having major Startup and boot issues since the update. My laptop freezes and goes to a white-grey screen. The computer does start up - ie: the screen comes on (white screen, unless I am lucky enough to get a boot screen for a moment) the fans run, but it takes several attempts at turning it on and off again, and hitting either F12 or F8 (still not sure which one is the one that works) to get to a screen that allows me to repair the Startup and go back to a retore point. The last time this happened it also beeped at me however I would not be able to tell you what the code sounded like (I...panicked somewhat).

However, the restore point was made just after Windows downloaded the updates onto my comouter (I had automatic updates on), and I cannot shut down without my computer wanting to install the updates. So I'm stuck in an endless cycle of downloading these updates, then being forced to restore.

Can anyone help with either finding a way to stop my laptop installing these updates, or does anyone know a way to troubleshoot the updates themselves?

Hey All,
Walked into complete chaos today at the office...seems like a Microsoft patch that was automatically updated on my users machines completely messed up their video settings.
The Dell GX270s would all boot up but then go blank after XP logo screen. As far as I can figure out, some new driver update threw the integrated Intel video driver out of whack causing it to use a resolution that the crt monitors can't handle. So far I have had to reinstall the intel driver and overwrite what was automatically installed.

Anyone else run into this today?

Dan

Haven't had any problems with Windows Update for a looooong time....guess it's inevitable to have glitches. <sigh>

We were fortunate that we had a spare M72e unit for testing as we have several around our offices. All of these systems are Windows 10, Version 1703, Build 15063.786. We wanted to test Version 1709 before mass deployment (WSUS and Network Push) to everyone in the company. The inital 1709 build came out with no problems an even the BIOS update worked (F1JY72USA.exe, F1KT72A). Everything was running fine for a day and we attempted to get the latest Windows Security Patches for Specter and Meltdown. We were able to get the system to boot Once after this, did a quick test on our software and then restart to verify that all was good. It wasn't. The Fans in the system started to run full speed and no boot screen showed up. I let the system run for about 3 minutes before I shutdown and tried again with the same results.Next I pulled the memory to see if I could get a Post Beep. I received the Beep and then attempted to boot again with the same results. After the last failure I attempted to Clear the BIOS by pulling the battery and switching the jumper. I left the machine overnight and then plugged it in the next morning and the system fans ran High the entire time. I got a couple beeps, but the system would keep restarting over and over with the fans running high over and over.3 boots later I pulled the power and put everything back (battery, jumper) and attempted to boot normally thinking the BIOS was cleared. The system has no display and the fans run High all the time and it ... Read more

After applying KB4056894 to my windows 7 laptop, visual studio 2010 stopped working, manifesting all sorts of subtle bugs which did not go away even after fully repairing Visual Studio 2010.  In addition, the import settings operation returns fourteen
errors consistently, also new with KB4056894.  I just restored from a Nov 2017 system image and now everything is stable and functional again.
I have now blocked all future windows 7 updates, which is fine with me.  These updates always consumed a lot of time and I'll be happy to go without them starting now.
I also have windows 10 installed on the same laptop which I stopped using several months ago, in favor of Windows 7 due to the latest Windows 10 being such a horrible operating system.  It's even worse than Windows 8.  Sorry to say this, but it's
true!
At least in windows 7 all control panel settings reside in one control panel! I believe that Microsoft has been working on the new metro/universal app for settings since 2011 starting in windows 8!  It's now 2018 and these settings are still split between
the UWP settings app and the desktop control panel.  I thought I took a lot of time to get things done, however Microsoft takes the cake when it comes to taking time to get things done.

It took me almost a whole work day to drill down to the single patch causing the problem coming with the latest patch day.

It is kb3109094 which breaks the remote X display of the Xclient.
Please may somebody at microsoft have a look into this as kb3109094 is marked as a security patch and I suspect the security has been tightened too much here.
The whole process of finding the problem cause was very time consuming and it raises 3 questions for me:
Q1. Why can't I just download the patches that my system wants
without also automatically install them?
(It takes about 20 minutes up to an hour for my system to check the patch status if I invoke it manually and this is a process I have to repeat redundantly if I only install a subset of the shown patches in a single swoop)
After I had manually downloaded the required KBxxx.msu patches one by one I also had to install them one by one.
Q2. Why is there no GUI option to select a bunch of patches from a downloaded directory and install them in one go? (not forgetting to set a restore point before installing)
Q3. Why is there no easy! feedback channel for problems resulting from updates?

It may become worse with windows 10 automatic updates if a bad update breaks something and people cannot give feedback on this quickly.

I monitor and record various Microsoft Updates for Work, Today I discovered what I believe to be a mistake in online security guide:

I was looking at updates for Windows 10 version 1607 for 32 and 64 bit systems when i noticed an odd patch out

It appears to me the 4054517 patch which belongs to windows 10 version 1709 32 bit was wrongly attached to the 1607 32 bit

Clicking on download for this patch gives you a download list for the wrong version of windows 10?

Is there anyone who can confirm this

A friend's PC Stops booting with the above error message. My research has come up with
[Windows XP Patch: Fix for STOP 0x0000007E error in aec.sys - KB900485

Applies to:
Windows XP with Service Pack 2

Requirements
Windows XP with Service Pack 2

File Size
0.5MB

File Name
WindowsXP-KB900485-x86-ENU.exe

Author/Supplier
Microsoft

Description
This patch for Windows XP fixes a bug in Windows XP that can cause a STOP 0x0000007E error in aec.sys (also called the 0x7E stop error). The full message may read 'STOP 0x0000007e (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4) aec.sys'. These parameter values can vary between systems and may look like, for example, 0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xF8954384, 0xF8954080.

Don't worry too much about this gibberish, they are not going to help you. However, this patch from Microsoft should fix the problem. The source is a little cryptic, but if you are interested, it is a timing error in the aec.sys file that causes the crash.]
I can download the patch to CD on my PC but my question is, how do I get the fix into the other PC? If I insert the CD into the faulty machine then reboot, will the patch load???

Information from the MS site follows but does not answer my question -

A:Installing Patch On Pc Which Won't Boot?

There can be many causes for a 0x7E stop message. I refer you to Microsoft's Knowledge Base on the subject HERE. To determine the cause of the stop message, you need to know it's context. In other words, what else is going on with this computer right before this error message started coming up? Is this computer infected? Was it recently upgraded? New hardware added? Too many devices plugged into the USB ports? Etc, etc, etc. Look down the list of Knowledge Base articles at the link above and see if any of those fit the situation.

Since I installed Firefox 2.0.0.14, I have had problems opening some Web sites such as the local newspaper. The page seems like it's opening, but then really doesn't finish loading, it just keeps trying to load some graphic associated with the site, but can't. If I close Firefox and open IE and go to the site, it will load okay. Then if I go back and open Firefox, the site will load. It's like I need IE to cue Firefox.

Also a local radio station offers an online listening option that I can't play on either Firefox or IE. It requires Windows Media Player. I have WMP version 9.00.00.2980 installed and can play downloaded wmv formatted videos.

If it's any help, my system is running Windows 98se as an OS. I also have 256 MB RAM and an 800 MHz Pentium III processor.

Hi!
I was running both x64 & x86 version of Win7 RC1 build 7100 quite well till now.
I downloaded the images from MS.
Today suddenly my x64 gave the BSOD..
At the end of BSOD some ACPI error is mentioned
I downloaded the new updates & system was installing them when BSOD occured...
The strange thing is that I tried to repair thru every possible means from safe mode to EMS & by starting from the DVD but it failed.(Every try ends at BSOD)

Now the problem is When I try to boot from the x64 DVD(from which I installed) after "Loading files" the BSOD comes when screen says Windows Starting..... Even before the glowing animation!
I disconnected my all HDD drives but still no success...
My system specs are;
CPU Intel C2D E4500
MB Asus P5E-VMDO
Ram Corsair 6GB
PS+Cooler 600W from Cooler Master
GPU 9500GT 1gb
HDD 2XWD 500 SATA + 2XSG 500 SATA

x64 was on WD 500 while x86 is on Sg500. Now x86(with latest updates installed) is running fine but no boot from x64 at all..

Hi

I'm not particularly techy so I hope I describe this right.

I have a Toshiba laptop running the 64bit edition of Windows 7 Home Premium. Service Pack 1 is installed.

A couple of weeks ago, I was routinely automatically downloading and installing from Windows Update. Then at my last Windows Update, after it had finished installing, DNS simply would not resolve, then it started to but very very slowly and then it stopped again. I could use IP addresses just fine, but DNS would simply not resolve, or would do so very slowly.

Reading around, I tried the following:

1) Removing the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter completely. This seemed to work at first, and then it just stopped again.

2) Changing the preferred DNS to 208.67.222.222 and, when that didn't work to 208.67.220.220. that didn't work either.

3) I shut down all anti-virus/firewall - still didn't work.

I ended up taking Windows back to a System Restore point pre- the latest Windows Update and everything was fine again. Now I'm worried to run Windows Update at all. If anyone has any ideas about what I should be doing, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

A:No DNS after downloading and installing latest Windows Update

You can avoid having to do this if you can figure out which update is causing the problem and then you can right click and hide the update.

This particular update has been causing problems for awhile now but if you happen to reinstall that update then running this command might help.

Lets try flushing DNS cache and renewing your IP.

Flush the DNS cache and restore MS's Hosts file ...
Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator.

Your computer will reboot it self.

You might need to reboot twice for this to work.

Software Update for AMD Catalyst is not installing the latest Display Driver

Whenever new software comes out for AMD Catalyst, my computer notifies me. Whenever I install the software, it acts as if it's installing correctly. However, after it is finished I check to see what software I have and it is not the current software.

Can someone help me fix this issue or tell me why it's not installing the latest update whenever I have new software available?

Thanks in advance!

I was looking forward to getting an iPod for Christmas later on this year. Every time I opened iTunes, it told me that there was a newer version ready to be installed. I uninstalled the iTunes I had. I attempted to install the new version. I found that it required a newer version of QuickTime. I uninstalled the earlier version (I don't know what version it was) because of this message [click]. I restarted my computer, then tried to install again. The message still appeared. I've deleted almost every iTunes and QuickTime file from my computer, tried installing, and the message still appears. I don't know what the problem is or what to do.

Help would be greatly appreciated. :')

You should have your windows update set to give updated drivers. If you did not have it set. You can use this manual method. Use 7/08 as the cutoff. Older than than it may be outdated. Try to update it.

Hello All,

So today I attempted to install the latest Nvidia Driver from their official website. While the installation process was being carried out my monitor went to sleep (no signal from the computer) and never came back, even though my pc was still running. So after waiting for a while I manually restarted the computer (power button) and booted in safe mode. Here I was met with a problem signature that included this information:

Problem Signature
Event Name: Blue Screen
OS Version 6.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID:1033

Additional Info
BCCode: 116
BCP1: FFFFFA80105FA010
BCP2: FFFFF8800738D19C
BCP3: 0000000000000000
BCP4: 0000000000000002
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

I also have a dump file in my minidump folder (062515-21091-01.dmp) but I couldn't figure out how to attach it.

Another strange thing is when I restarted windows normally after checking the problem dxdiag.exe and GeForce experience both say that the new 353.30 driver was installed correctly and is running. Thank you so much to anyone reading this and trying to help, let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks,

Hello.

Windows Defender did something nasty to my machine and now I cannot access the Internet through any browser although my system shows I have connection. Just get the nutty "This webpage is not available" with "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN". Seems it must have deleted something I need.

So after a big hassle trying to shut down Defender and keep it off (as it kept coming back on again and with constant malware warnings endlessly), I decided to run my Malwarebytes that was already installed previously.

However, Malwarebytes came up with an error about not finding something called dnsapi.dll and to reinstall.

No matter how many times I try to reinstall, including doing so after using the Malwarebytes clean tool first, it comes up with an error during installation:

Runtime Error (at 97:137):
Could not call proc.

And installation fails and ends.

Any ideas?

TIA

A:Problems installing Malwarebytes v2.2.0.1024 latest for Win 10

Apparently Win Defender considered dnsapi.dll to be a virus. It was deleted from SysWow64 but not from System32 folder.

I decided to install MalwareBytes on another Win 10 PC and then copied the dnsapi.dll from it to my broken machine.

MalwareBytes proceeded to install correctly and my internet access has also been restored.

Hi every one.

Lately I've been having trouble with my SATA3 Hard Drive hanging and discovered I had them plugged into GSATA3 Marvell 9128 ports. I promptly replugged them into SATA2 ICH10R ports and now I have no troubles with the SATA3 Hard Drive with too major hanging. But it does skip a bit time to time and it's a new hard drive.

I've heard there is a bug with the Marvell 9128 port connectors if they're not updated to the latest drivers. I am wondering if this is the case and how should I go about updating the drivers for all my SATA ports from GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1366 - GA-X58A-UD7 (rev. 1.0) will stop the hard drive hanging / skipping?

Is it safe to install the new drivers right on top of the old ones? Or is there some thing special I have to do?

A:GA-X58A-UD7: How to go about safely installing the latest drivers?

If there are updates on the Gigabyte site I would go ahead and install them, it should be OK to just install them, I would also check for Chipset drivers and make sure that the BIOS is up to date.
I am not sure I understand what you mean by skipping, but the PC hanging may possibly be caused by something else.

Yesterday morning, I saw that Microsoft had released several updates (I forgot about Patch Tuesday this week). There were twenty important updates available, nineteen of which were ticked. The twentieth was a recommended Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 update from the end of November that I'd never thought to install. I let the nineteen new updates install themselves when I switched my PC off before stepping out for a bit. However, only eighteen updates were installed. When I came back in the afternoon, I saw that the update that wasn't installed was this month's malware removal tool.

I tried installing it again, but I also decided to install the recommended .NET Framework update. The update process got stuck on the latter update, and I couldn't stop the installation, so I restarted my PC (through the Start menu, that is, not by holding down the power button until it switched off them switching it on again). It continued to install the updates. I looked at the update history and saw that the .NET Framework update was installed successfully, and that the malware removal tool was cancelled.

This morning, three more updates were installed - a definition update for Windows Defender, and two security updates for the .NET Framework. Again, the malware removal tool wasn't installed.

Right now, it is the only important update available, and it's ticked. I appreciate any help you can provide.

A:Latest Malicious Software Removal Tool not installing

Try option two:
Windows Update - Reset
Then check for updates again.

You can also run this:
Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [November 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Center
It might look like it hangs up, but let it run overnight - if need be.
Set the computer not to sleep.

Hi! I have an aspire E1-470 with 64bit windows 8. I was wondering if it's possible to install the latest generic graphics driver for my intel hd graphics 4000. Tried to do it before but i couldn't because it prompts me about something like the driver for my graphics card is customized by acer and that i should contact it to get the lastest driver. The driver posted on the intel website is newer than the one i can get from acer.  Thanks a bunch!

A:Installing Latest(based from intel drivers) driver...

It is recommended to download the latest graphics drivers for your system. You can do this by following the steps below:1. Go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers2. Type Aspire E1-470 in the box below "Search by Product Model" and click "Search".3. Click on your model number from the list that comes up.4. Once the details about your model are displayed, select your current operating system appropriately from the drop-down menu besides "Operating System".5. Now, click on Driver tab and locate suitable VGA driver. In your case, you need to download VGA driver for Intel. Once you have located the driver, click Download in the same row and follow on-screen instructions to download the driver in your computer.6. Follow on-screen instructions to install the latest driver. Hope this will help you.

hi, I posted the same question on MS newsgroup but since nobody replies to it and there are about 8 people with the same problem, I thought that I look somewhere else for answer. I'm in the middle of formatting a hard drive, doing the research while waiting. good thing I have another computer to use.

I installed the latest MS Windows Update this afternoon (about 10 hours ago) and it renders my computer unusable. the computer won't boot, it just got stuck on the Windows XP screen where the blue bars go from left to right. after about 2-3 runs, it started to get very slow and the little blocks that make up the bars shows up very slowly like in slow motion. I don't (can't) remember the exact KB number, but I remember installing about 7-8 updates. the critical (required) ones are the malicious software removal thing, a patch for IE6, outlook express patch, ms word patch. then I add the root something update and an update for my network card.

then it told me to reboot the computer but the computer will not boot. I tried another hard drive that I haven't used since March, it performs the same "problem", the bars go for about 2-3 runs then it started to get very slow. then it just sits there, stuck, until I press the reset button. I'm currently formatting this hard drive and leaving the updated one untouched because I don't want to have to format that one. too much data and too many programs to reinstall (I want clean install and clea... Howdy,

May take the plunge on setting up Vista 64 on a new drive. I have 8gb installed currently in this XP box (in anticipation of Vista 64), and so was wondering if it is critical to remove two modules before installing Vista 64. What do you know?

Noel

A:Latest recommendation on installing 8GB memory in a new Vista 64 install

As a precaution you could remove the extra sticks and then put them back when the OS is installed.
I have read a couple of post by people with errors above 2gig installed.
I dont know if ms have put out a hotfix yet but that will not apply yet as you have not installed the OS.

You can try the install with all ram in but if vista fails to install it will take longer to sort it out, than removing the two sticks in the first place.
