Q: Audio-Jack-headsets

I have a Dell New Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming (Intel) – 7567. Can someone tell me the size of the Mic/headset jack? I’m looking for some great gaming headset and short on USB ports? If I use my Buffalo Blu-ray on the right side it (uses 2 USB ports) all the available USB ports on the right side, so if I use the only USB port on the left side for a headset , I’m out of USBs??? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Audio-Jack-headsets

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. The Inspiron 7567 Setup and Specifications document calls it a "headset (headphone and microphone combo) port", but gives no actual specifications. All Dell laptops up to now have had the standard 3.5 mm jacks, so you should be safe using that as a reference. Get one from someplace that accepts returns.

Hi.  I just received my new Yoga C930 (1TB, 4K, 16GB). Overall happy but for one thing.  When I plug devices into the headphone jack they don't work.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with Yoga.1) I tried my bluetooth headset first and it installed fine.2) I plugged a wired headset into the PC.  No notification that I plugged something in. The speakers dont produce sound but no sound comes out of the headset.3) I tried a second wired headset.  Same thing.4) I Opened up device manager. Bluetooth Headset, HDMI monitor and Realtek speakers show up.  No headset.5) Troubleshoot: Shows Bluetooth headset (No Jack information available) , Speakers (Says the connector is on the right side of the computer ??? No ports on rightside of a c930), bluetooth  Headphones (no jack in available) and HDMI monitor. Ho headphone optionSound options shows same four options.  No headphone jack options. Troubleshooting finds no problem6) Go to Device manager. When I plug or unplug the headset the list of devices reloads...but no changes in Audio Inputs / outputs or Sound devices listed so its detecting the insertion but doesn't know what to do about it.7) Tried disabling HDMI Monitor under sound. No effect.I can use my bluetooth headset but if it runs low on batteries I'm screwed. C'mon Lenovo.  $2000 and you can't get a headset driver to work right? Embarassing!

I have three audio devices on my pc (ATI HDMI, Via HD onboard and steelseries usb soundcard) and through all devices I only get audio out of the left channel. I have tried two pairs on headphones and my tv speakers all with the same results. I have looked at all the balancing end everything is set to even on both channels.

Windows 7 X64 ultimate
M4A78 PRO Mobo Via HD audio
Steel Series Usb SoundCard

A:Audio Only out of one channel (multiple headsets and audio devices)

As you have three devices, each one separately generates the sound. The only thing common would be the sound itself, such as a wav or mp3 file.

When you use the PC's sound chip (VIA HD) that is one hardware device and the wired on the motherboard output jacks. If you use a USB connected sound device then you are using that device to generate the sound and that device's physical jacks. If you use the ATI HDMI, most video cards have their own built in audio chip (unless this is an old video card that uses S/PDIF connection to the motherboard) and thus again everything separate for audio generation and connection.

One comment, if you have both the Via on board audio and the usb connected sound card enabled at the same time there can be conflicts and sound problems. Not the balance problem you have but there can be problems. If you want to use the VIA then physically disconnect the USB. If you want to use the USB, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS.

I have a laptop running both windows 10 and ubuntu. The audio worked just fine but since yesterday I couldn't hear a thing  on windows or ubuntu.. There is a red circle with a white 'X' on the speaker icon in the taskbar. When I hower my mouse over it, it says "No Audio Output Device is installed".
I tried to find solutions online but I couldn't solve the issue. I don't have the  "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" option under Device Manager. Sound/ Playback gives the message  "No audio devices are installed". I can't open the Realtek app. When I ran driver easy, it said that Realtek audio is unplugged.
Please do help me. I've been working on this for a while now and have had no luck. Any help is appreciated.Thank you.

A:No audio from speakers or headsets

theodorebear,Click the link below to choose your computer model and then the OS you have installed. Download and install the chipset drivers first and reboot. You can then download and install the audio drivers and install them as well. Reboot the machine. Depending on the system Dell may not have Ubuntu drivers.

Hello everyone, lately I've been receiving issues with the audio coming out of the wrong place when im using my new headphones. I'm not sure if it could be a problem with skype because it only happens when im on a call with somebody.

So every time im in a call with someone on skype, the audio from the call stays in my headsets just fine and usual but everything else starts coming out from my speakers. This is especially annoying because my headsets are noise cancelling and i cannot hear the audio properly from the speakers anymore.

Also the headsets i am currently using are SteelSeries Siberia V2

A:Audio comes out of both headsets and speakers

Hi Electros,

Skype has it's own Audio section in the settings iirc, open Skype, find the audio settings and in there you can chose from a drop down menu which device you want for playback and mic.

I must say I'm a bit surprised that I can't seem to find a definitive answer as I would have thought they'd be plenty of people in my position.

I simply want to connect two bluetooth headsets (would they have to be identical?) to my laptop at the same time so that my wife and I can either listen to music or watch movies together.

I've seen a couple of answers on the web stating the Bluesoleil software will do it but they might be just saying that get me to buy the software. There also seems to be a device that you plug into the audio port (3.5mm) although not popular and that's not using the onboard Bluetooth chip.

Obviously this can be done using wired headsets but I just want wireless.

Thanks very much and hope you can help.

Hi Everyone,

This forum has been fantastic for helping me with a virus issue, so hopefully, you all can help with an audio issue. I think I put this in the correct forum, if not please move.

I recently updated my nVidia graphics drivers, but somehow it messed up my audio as well. I have heard that this can happen for some strange reason. Before this issue, I had my audio coming through my 2 logitech desktop speakers and sub perfectly. Also, when I would plug in a USB Headset and Microphone the USB Port would stop any future audio going to my speakers, and instead, put them into the headset. I would typically be playing a game having the sound coming out of the speakers, but if I wanted to listen to a little tunes, I could plug in the headset and listen to some music but still have game sounds on the speakers. Now basically what the issue is, when I plug the headset into the front USB jack, I hear myself breathing (never did that before). In addition, the audio does not go to the headset on 1 of the 2 jacks. Also, now when I use the application Ventrilo, it will not recognize my headset.

It may help to provide what I have as far as hardware:

WinXP Home 32 bit
Intel Quad Core Q9300
ASUS P5Q PRO Turbo Mobo
Antec 900 Case (two USB in front)
EVGA GeForce GTX460

Not sure if there is anything else that would need to be provided. Also, I checked the device manager, and there are multiple instances of: nVidia HD Audio, so I am not too sure what that is all about. In f... Read more

The audio quality of our built-in Beats Audio speakers is very good. Quality of audio played through BlueTooth is fine. However, the quality of the audio played through any device connected via the audio jack is terrible. The sound comes through as though the speakers or headset have blown cones when they sound absolutely fine connected to other devices (mobile phone, tablet, other computer, etc.). We have ensure that our Realtek drivers are updated and have seen many other complaints about this with no definitive means of correcting it. Has anyone learned of a way to fix this audio problem or should we simply plan to never play audio through this laptop to any speakers or headphones connected via wire? Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

Well my jack is broken since a few months so no joy for me... I hate it now when I can't listen to my music on my 14 speakers in my room. (NO KIDDING LOL) And today I was thinking about... HDMI... Audio?! Yes, but - I don't want to cut my only one hdmi cable which my parents use. So, I thought maybe my USB 2.0 port can emit audio, I have some spare USB cables lying to throw out, could I make it possible to connect a 3.5mm jack with the USB to the white and green cables? (USB pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru) I don't care if it will be mono sound or stereo, I just want sound in my speakers again
Also I don't know If I had to post this in the Hardware & Devices section but I personally think this question fits better here.

P.S.: I think I'll need some software.. if yes: I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits SP1 on a Acer Aspire 5742G Intel i3 370m 2.4ghz , 4 gb ddr3 ram, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5470 512 M GDDR3, 2 free usb ports on the right side, 1 for the mouse on the left, HDMI Ethernet and VGA on the left side (+ power source adapter which also was broken but I've fixed it).

Btw, I don't want to(Well.... Can't) spent any $$$ on any adaptors now...

Well else I will have to get the screwdriver, openup the laptop and connect some wires to the laptop speaker... But that's the last thing I want to do. If nothing else will help.

Hello my dear fellow windows 7 users!

A few days ago, one half of the jack of my external speakers got stuck in the female jack of my PC laptop.
I am using Realtek HD audio, and I wanted to ask whether it is possible for me to somehow disable the jack and have my audio played through my normal inbuilt laptop speakers, seeing as I will be needing audio from my computer as soon as possible.

Here is a snapshot of my audio devices - and as you can see the speakers and headphones are under one device so I can't switch between the two..

Please help me guys thanks alot

A:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

There is a contact switch inside that audio port that switches the built in speakers off when a jack is inserted.
This is a physical switch so the issue is hardware. I doubt there will be any software solution for it.

So your mission is to remove that broken jack. If you are uncomfortable taking a laptop apart you might consider taking it to a repair shop.

A:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

You will need to get the broken piece out. Sometimes a strong magnet will dislodge it. Some RealTek's have a control panel that will allow you to reassign jacks, but I don't know if that will even do you any good.

If you have one it will be located in Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

A:how do I switch micro jack to a audio jack

Some, but not all, have the capability to reallocate jacks. If you have RealTek, the RealTek HD Audio Manager that is located in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound Panel is where its located (but not on all RealTek's). If you have some other on-board audio check to see if there is a simi;ar Audio Manager and the options.

If there is no jack reassignment available for your PC/motherboard you can use the rear Speaker jack for headphones. Some also have a "Line Out" and you can also use that for the headphones.

A:audio problem when earphone/head phone is connected to 3.5mm audio jack

Test by switching between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If it still does not work correctly when the native driver is installed, then the hardware in the headphone jack has failed.
But if the same problem is there with the native driver then you should install a different version of the Realtek driver. I might be able to direct you to one but would need to know which operating system you are using.

When I plug in my headphones, it doesn't appear as a device. I don't think it's a hardware problem. Everything was perfectly fine before but it suddenly stops working. Please help!

Lenovo Yoga 3 11 - model 80J8:  out of warrantyI have done several searches and it seems there is a fairly common problem with some Yoga machines and audio.  All of a sudden a few months ago, the internal speakers went silent.  I did not notice it because I don't use it much for streaming audio, but when I do, I connect it to external speakers.  Audio to an external source functions fine, but internal speakers are silent.  Control panel and Device Manager show speakers functioning properly.I have read previous postings back to 2015 and it seems there is no real Lenovo reply or fix for this problem.  I have already tried to update the Realtek driver and that had no effect.  I am not willing to restore to factory default, since this machine shipped with Windows 8 and I upgraded to Windows 10 a few years ago.  The audio worked fine after the Windows 10 upgrade.  Respectfully, please only respond if you have factual data, rather than speculation.  This problem is well documented in the forums and elsewhere, but I have yet to find something concrete.I thought it may help to add a thread on the subject, as I expect others with the problem are frustrated, especially since there does not seem to be a formal response from Lenovo (that I can find)..  Thank you in advance!

How can I uninstall Dell Audio and only have the legacy Realtek Driver and Software in my XPS 14 (L421x)?
I installed some time age the default audio driver that I got from "Dell Drivers", this installed the "Dell Audio" + "MAXX AUDIO 4". I already uninstalled this thing, run CCleaner, deleted the folders, and downloaded and installed the legacy Realtek R 2.73 driver, but this thing (Dell Audio) is always installing with the driver.
My system audio is ridiculously loud. I need to put my system audio in somewhat 5~15 / 100% to get "normal audio", the only way I get realistic "normal audio range" is using my SteelSeries Wireless Headset with USB, this way the system audio goes to 100% automatically and I control the audio with the scroll located in the headset, even in 100% max audio, I get a "normal 100%", it's loud, but not EXTREME like the notebook audio!
Another problem, when I plugin my Apple Earpods, they simple doesn't work, I already tested them with tons of devices at home, and they are working great. The system doesn't even recognize them.
I think that everything would be resolved if I could install the Leagacy Realtek drivers & software, not this *** loaded with bloatware from Dell, I don't care about "MAXX Audio", "MaxxSense" and all this BS. I have XPS 9560.
I am not happy with how Maxx Audio amplifies my speakers - it seems to overamplify them and then they resonate with the chasis, producing an annoying distortion every time I watch a movie or a tv show. I turned off Maxx Audio profile and it didn't help.
I then disabled Maxx Audio service and service application in startup, and the sound is now good, however, now when I plug in my speakers into the headphone jack, the audio is no longer routed, and the laptop always outputs  audio through internal speakers. Also, that annoying audio switching popup no longer shows up.
So - how to disable Maxx Audio, while keeping audio routing functional?
PS. I would appreciate not to be asked questions like is my Windows updated, are my drivers up to date etc. Support engineers should already be aware of this problem given how well documented it is.

Hello BleepingComputer
I just upgraded my computer a few days ago, and I am having problems with the Front Jack Audio/Headphone.
Normally, I set my Headphone to run simultaneous with my Speaker with Realtek HD audi/Stereo Nix (Disable Front Jack Detection and vice versa), and I could change the volume on both devices separately.
But since I changed the motherboard, when I have realtek installed, it doesn't have the Headphone setting in Sound/Playback.
The headphone work perfectly, but its linked to the Speaker's volume, which is really annoying.
Also, the Realtek layout changed from the last one I got, and doesn't have the "Disable Front Jack Detection" option.

I'm pretty certain that there is a cable that you have to connect from your sound card to your gfx card...

Sound over HDMI from GPU

If you have a Radeon HD 4xxx series or newer it should be setting up your HDMI by itself, though you may need a driver from the website. http://ati.amd.com

Also, check to make sure that when you're hooking up to your TV via HDMI that your sound options have HDMI/S-PDIF as default...

In your sound control, located in the control panel, be sure that the hdmi device is set as the default. The hdmi device choice will be there if you're plugged up to your hdtv.

Hello. For a while now, my headphones that I usually plug into the audio jack are not working at all. I have tried several headphones, but it makes no difference. The only way audio will come out is through a usb headphone, usb adapter, or through the speakers (and also come out of the headphones at the same time) . I've downloaded and redownloaded my audio devices and I'm completely frustrated at this point. I've noticed that my speakers are set to go through the audio jack as well, and thought disabling them would stop this problem. But I was wrong. Nothing. I'm slowly getting more and more annoyed as the days go on without an answer. Please, I just need an answer. I need my headphones to work again. I've been having way too many problems lately, but this is by far the worst. The weirdest thing is, for about a few days it was magically fixed after an update, but reverted!? I don't understand, and I can't stand it anymore. Thank you.

The audio jack implies speakers or headphones can be plugged in to that jack.

If the notebook has an HDMI port, then a TV can be plugged into that and you'll have a different option to output audio to.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks, lee.

A:Audio Jack not working, but USB Audio is.

I would check your motherboards connectors, check your manual for audio connections

Hello,My problem is this: I have an old  set of speakers such that the left speaker eventually stopped working.
Upon taking it apart, turns out the wire was just pulled away from the solder to the pins.I replaced the wire and it was good as new.
After a few months of use, (once in a while use) the left speaker "stopped" workingI later discovered that it still works, but is very very quiet.Such that, I have to set the right speaker balance to 9% and left to 100% to get the same volume from both speakers.I took it apart today, re-glued the wires back to the pins, no difference.
So I am wondering, with Dell Audio client, and my Dell xps 8700, which has a front and back 3.5mm audio jacks, can I set the balance to the front port to be my 100/9 for the speakers, and 100/100 for the back which connects to my headphones?
I took a look in the audio client, but it looks like no such option exists.Do I go looking for a new set of speakers or is there an easy option here?

A:Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

I believe both jacks are controlled and connected to the same ports and software so directing one to do one thing and another to do something different isn't possible as far as I know.  Maybe someone will have a different answer, but I don't think Dell's software is advanced enough.

One day I got a new screen because i used to watch and listen through my TV, so when i plugged in everything i put my headphones and started hearing this buzzing and static noise. Whenever i move my mouse i hear this scratch, and i cant listen to anything its completely silent. All i hear is this static noise and the scratch. I'v tried multiple solutions and nothing. Searched it in the internet and no one has the same thing i have. I'm currently having sound through a TV plugged in by speakers. I hope i get a solution please reply!

Hi mwtr
Could I please ask which laptop or table you have and the verson of Windows.
Might I also please enquire:
- Have you used more than one set of headphones to test or have you used the same headphones in a different device successfully?
- What was the reason for the original device reset when you sent it in and was it for a hardware repair?
- Is Audio playing out of the device speakers successfully
- If Audio is playing out of the speakers successfully does this stop when you plug in the headphones?

Gretings, and happy holidays all!I've just purchase a new HP af 118 au, with an amd a8 apu, 4 gb of ramMy little peeve for this laptop is its 1 audio jack for mic or headsets. Question is, when I bought it, the seller told me if I bought the adapter for it, I can plug in both microphone and headset through the same port. So i bought it. But I never get it to work, at least with my notebook. I've tried the adapter on my friend's asus its working like a charm. I bought my notebook without any os and just done full installation of 64 bit windows 10 on it with all stock drivers from Hp website. Can I set my notebook's audio device to use the adapter? As for now I use a usb sound stick to use the provided jacks. but if possible, can I set my lappy's combo audio jack? Is there any programs I could download to use it? best regards.

Hi, suddently when I was playing a video game the audio in my earphones stopped, precisely only in the left earphone, the second was working. Firstly I tough that my earphones stopped working but I tested them using another device and they worked very well. So I used another earphone to test my computer and I realized that every video or audio file showed the same problem with every earphone I used, so I think that there is a problem with the audio jack.  This computer is almost new, without any damages and I have my warranthy, so what can I do to resolve this problem? Sorry for my bad English, please ask if something is not clear. Thank you very much!!

Dell Latitude E7450
When I would plug headphones into the jack a box used to pop up and ask me what kind of accessory was plugged in. I would choose headphones or audio headset etc and I could always control the sound with the function keys on the key board and also with the audio icon at the bottom right of the start bar.
A couple days ago I unchecked the box in the pop up that said "always ask". After doing that:
-I can no longer control the volume from my keyboard and also can not control it from the sound icon. I can only control the sound from whatever website I am listening to.
-I also now have 2 sound devices showing in the icon and my computer noises (like from emails coming or outlook alerts) all come thru the computer speakers but the radio comes from my headphones.
-When the headphones are unplugged with the radio still playing, the radio will come over the computer speakers but the function keys still do not work to mute, turn down or turn up the volume
How do I get the pop up to come back so my sound settings can get back to normal?

I had a problem with my headphone for a week.
I thought it wasn't because of the audio-jack.
I thought it was my old headphone.
Bought a new headphone today.
And the reason turned out to be the audiojack
There is still sound but it's really distorted, unless I twist and turn the plug in the audio entrance (the right way). The perfect sound only lasts a couple of seconds. VERY ANNOYING!
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Very glad if someone knows.
