ASUS/Realtek, Latest Realtek versus default W7 Audio driver

Q: ASUS/Realtek, Latest Realtek versus default W7 Audio driver

I installed the Realtek HD audio driver from the ASUS download site (P8Z68-V Pro MB) and all was well until I installed an MSI 560TI video card and let it install the Nvidia HD Audio drivers. The problem I have been chasing ever since was the Realtek HD Audio Manager popping up after the system exited extended sleep state (overnight). After much trial and tribulation and several Google Searches I concluded that the Realtek/ASUS HD Audio driver was conflicting with the Nvidia driver(s).

I did what suggested on one of the sites and that was to delete the Realtek HD Audio drivers and just let W7 install the default Microsoft drivers. Problem gone! Now I am curious, what did I give up and if I install the latest Realtek driver for W7 64-bit (v267) from the Realtek site will the Nvidia conflict return?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: ASUS/Realtek, Latest Realtek versus default W7 Audio driver

Generally the Microsoft installed HD Audio Codec does not have all the features the motherboard vendor's sound drivers do. In most cases the actual driver is preferred and should be installed instead of the generic HD Audio Code drivers.

The NVIDIA driver is for the Video and the build in audio for HDMI audio. It should not be interferring with the PC's sound and in this case Realtek. I would uninstall the Microsoft drivers and reinstall the RealTek and see if you still have the problem. Generally a driver causes problems when exiting from sleep mode. Actually on "extended" sleep mode of overnight its really better to just shut down the system and then reboot in the morning. If you want it to be operational when you wake up, the BIOS should have an option for auto power on at whatever time you set.

Today, I updated my Realtek Audio Driver to version 6.0.1.7831 (dated 7/21/2016). After installation, I immediately realized that the taskbar icon changed from Dolby to Realtek default icon:? -> ? Next, I went to Programs and Features and found out that "Dolby Audio X2 Windows APP" disappeared from the list. Originally, both of these Dolby programs came with the laptop:? After the update, I was only left with this:? The impact of this is that I can no longer toggle the different sound features provided by the Dolby App. I contacted Lenovo via online chat support but the personnel insists Dolby is not a supported program by Lenovo without giving me a valid solution or answer. Did Lenovo omit Dolby App in the latest Audio Driver by mistake? Or did Lenovo intentionally removed it due to the vulnerability explained here: "Dolby Audio X2 (DAX2) privilege escalation" https://support.lenovo.com/sg/en/product_security/len_4884#/IdeaPad. If anybody is facing the same issue / has any solutions / answers, kindly leave a comment below. First of all, heres a video - listen carefully please!

Issue -

When I built my pc, everything worked fine. No issues, every driver perfect. Long story short I had some issues and had to do a fresh install of windows 7. Then the audio issue above started happening again. So I assumed it was a bad windows install - so I re-installed windows 2 more times and I have had the issue ever since.

If I set my speakers to quadraphonic the noise stops. But the noise still comes through my headphones and it is annoying beyond belief!!!!

I have tried every driver realtek and asus and yet nothing but problems. The default windows driver doesn't have the best quality or else I'd keep using it!

Please help me, if you can fix this I will be forever grateful to you!!!!

P.S. - Asus has no fix for this and wants me to RMA - please prevent me from going through that process.

Realtek HD Audio Manager is a software driver used on Windows computers. It handles recording and playback of audio programs. It is required for many audio programs to operate.

While Realtek HD Audio Drivers is a tool that allows you to listen to audio in HD on your PC.

Stereo Mix is used to transfer audio that the PC is playing to recording software such as Audacity, so that you can record what you?re hearing.

When one upgrade their OS like in your case from XP to Win7 with the same motherboard and sound card it is always advised & recommended to download the latest soundcard driver, because the only thing that had changed was the operating system.

The advice is not to go to windows for it, but to go to the motherboard manufacturer, because it would be specialised for the system rather than ... Read more

Help. I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit (on my HP Vista 32 machine). Life is grand! My problems started when I tried to listen to the microphone input through my speakers. The front microphone inputs did not work so I downlaed the Realtek HD Audio Drivers (recently updated) from the realtek site. The inputs now work and I can record from the microphone through the Sound Recorder app in Accessories but can not hear the microphone through the speakers while I am recording. After searching the web I noticed a lot of chatter about setting things up in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. This app does not show up in my control panel. Does anyone know where I can get it (if I really need it). The Realtek site only has the driver download (not the manager). Am I missing something, am I confused, or both?

Hey there.

I've looked almost everywhere and I couldn't find my exact problem. Well, technically I did but there wasn't a solution anywhere, so I decided to go ahead and ask myself.

Now, I installed Windows 7 (32 bit) on my computer the other day, and I've been driver hunting since then. Looking for video card drivers, printer drivers, it's a real nightmare. Though I can say I've pretty much managed with everything, except with this.

I downloaded the latest Realtek HD audio driver for Windows 7 twice, from different sources. I also downloaded a bunch of codecs (made for Windows 7 as well) but what really bothers me is that the sound quality is horrifying.

I used to have XP on my system until last week with the appropriate Realtek audio driver and the sound was awesome. The equalizers available really did the trick.

Now, however, the sound is so freaking bad, even Winamp's equalizer can't make my music sound as good as it did. The treble is raspy, there's hardly any bass. I've tried all the available settings in the Realtek Control Center (or whatever it's called) to no avail. All the additional equalizing and adjusting of the environment make it sound even worse. =/

If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate it so much.

Hi, hooising, and welcome to the forums.

First off, your picture is very very large, but the actual relevant part is tiny, too tiny in fact to see well. Follow How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista to use the snipping tool correctly to make image posting a lot easier and a lot more readable.

According to the picture, it looks like you have made the digital TOSLINK as the default - change that.

And as for memory, well, Vista *does* have a virtual memory system in place....so, usually, no, and especially not before giving you multiple warnings about being low on memory. However, if one of your memory DIMMs fails while in use it could very well lead to a BSOD and a reboot....

Hello all, I just got Windows 8.1 Pro as a gift from a friend and installed it just a few hours ago, and I noticed that I am having audio problems.

Basically put, it's sort of random when this happens, but it seems to happen when sounds play rapidly, as letting a audio que play it's part will play with no popping nosies, here is an example of me showing this by using the sound that plays when you change audio:
Vocaroo | Voice message

The first 10 seconds are me playing the sound slow, with no popping. Then the sound starts popping when I change volume rapidly.

I also checked DPC Latency Checker and everything is running smoothly:
imgur: the simple image sharer

I have all the latest drivers installed, and this happens with with no drivers. I just can't seem to figure out what the issue is here.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I've tried disabling drivers, removing the USB Keyboard and Mouse, as well as setting the audio to CD Quality.

Thanks in Advance to the person who could help me with this.

What type of speaker system are you using ? Monitor with HDMI, check video card settings ? Could be conflicting driver, possibly Video card. Also mattering to speakers used, check for loose connections, something could be disturbing speakers.

Lots of reasons for popping and stuttering. Integrated card or PCI Slot Card?

My Realtek Audio chips in my ASUS motherboard started to play "Chipmunk" music, which I researched and was informed that the Data rate on MP3s was set wrongly, and that I should re-record. (I have just one thousand-odd tracks, so that's not an option).
The other advice was "take out the drivers and device" Which I did.
Then I tried re-installing from the oriignal disc, no go.
Downloaded the latest Realtek driver, 4.22 no go.
Went into regedit and took out some very odd looking Realtek lines which appeared to have calls elswhere, (long strings of 3-4 interlinked addresses). Cleaned up the registry generally.
But nothing will re-establish the Realtek Audio. Windows XP SP3 tells me the device is present, but cannot read the install disc, the downloaded driver fails.
I'm stumped., any suggestions?

I'm using an audio application called SRS Audio Sandbox Version 1.10.2.0 which doe's work with Windows 7 because when I first installed it was working perfect for a good few weeks time but recently I downloaded Realtek HD Audio Manager 2.57 to enable me to playback audio through my monitor speakers but it seems to have changed my audio setup ?

I have a 5.1 Logitech z906 speakers which take up green, black & yellow ports and my monitor has a green audio jack which I plugged in green and my Logitech's green jack I've plugged into Blue and used Realtek HD Manager to change Blue port to a Line Out option.

It appears to work accept when I do Speaker Playback Test clicking on diagram only left & right speakers playback noise though when I do it with headphones on all speakers playback noise: Left, Right, Center, Sub Rear Left & Rear Right not sure if that's normal ?

Under Sound proprieties my Realtek HD Audio is set as the default playback device in which both my speaker & monitor playback music but I need it to playback through SRS Audio Sandbox so I can manage and adjust the sound but whe... Read more

I don't use headphones but you can try:

Right click your speaker icon in the Task Bar and click Open Volume Control and then left click Options, then Properties and select the Mixer device for HD Audio front microphone if it's selected HD audio render.

I'm new to this forum so I hope I'm not repeating a problem that's already been addressed. My sound stopped working suddenly following a Windows update in late 2018. Since then (literally for months) I've been scouring the internet looking for remedies. I've uninstalled and re-installed Realtek / drivers multiple times. I spent hours on a call with Microsoft (who blamed it on ASUS) and hours with ASUS (who simply couldn't help me). The sound icon on my screen varies from a red "x" to a white soundwave from one boot to the next, without any change to my software. With the red "x" it indicates No Audio Output Device is Installed. With the soundwave, it indicates the Speaker Setup is unidentified.
This (or very similar) problems are posted all over the internet. Some seem to have been resolved by reloading drivers, but others remain an issue.
I'm really at my wits' end in trying to resolve this.
Is there a sound card in this machine that I could try replacing? or is the sound built into th... Read more

Hello, im Juan from Argentina.
Im having a problem that looks like this one :

http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic38366.html

Trying to resume it:
My mic records and plays at a VERY low volume + im sending EVERY SOUND like an output, if im using winamp, and im in a call on MSN, the person thats hearing me hears the music, and its like that with every other sound my pc plays. and aaallso... i can only hear the MIC from the LEFT Speaker.

i have an ASUS P5LD2-X mobo...

i tried everything in the topic i refered... but i dont have the Front or Rear Pink in volume settings...
im desperate. Really.

Thnx from Buenos Aires

A:Realtek HD Audio Microphone Problems (ASUS MOBO)

I have an asus P5GC-MX, with the same dodgy Realtek HD Audio. I have had the soft microphone issue since the MB was first used.

Today I tried downloading the drivers from Realtek and installing. I also ran the "MicCal.exe" program, as mentioned in the other thread. There seemed to be no effect. I also enabled the "output" microphone control and switched on mic boost. Still nothing.

But then I restarted the pc, and everything works now! Unfortunately I don't know which action fixed it. But keep trying, you will get it!

Regarding the sounds being recorded, you can mute certain sounds using the recording controls in windows mixer. To access these, go to Options -> Properties and change the mixer device to "Realtek HD Audio Input", enable all the controls, and start playing around

Hello, everyone!

First of all, I'd like to greet the Forums from Budapest, Hungary - after browsing it for a while I found it to be a really nice, civilized and useful place. Cheers!

Now the reason I'm posting.
I've built a new PC (with Asus P5K mobo) for a friend who has a 6-channel speaker system and when I connect it to the mobo's on-board audio the Center/Sub speakers doesn't work. I began experimenting with a simple headset's jack and the driver has detected it in all ports (asking me what did I plug in), except for the Center/Sub and L-R Side-speakers' (for 7.1) ports.

The odd thing is I've tried this with two other PCs as well (these were P5KC mobos, but same on-board audio - Realtek ALC883, one with factory BIOS, the other with an upgraded one) and the results were exactly the same. I've tried all possible audio I/O settings in Realtek's control panel (headset, 2-4-6-8 ch) but nothing. Is there something I'm doing wrong or all ALC883s on Asus P5K series are deffective?!

And one more thing. If I configure the Front Panel audio port as Center/Sub in Realtek's control panel, it works just fine as Center/Sub!
I've called the tech-guys at the dealer's and they said they never heard about this problem before and I should take back the mobo. But is it possible that all three *different* mobos are deffective in the same way?

The config:
Mobo: ASUS P5K Rev. 1.02G
BIOS: 0603 (factory)

Hey, I'm a new member here with a problem!

I have a pair of Skullcandy Crushers with an arguably great built-in mic that turn on with a press of a button. However I built a new computer a few days ago and installed the latest version of the ASUS Realtek HD Audio manager, and while the audio on the headphones work, the mic refuses to work and isn't even recognized on programs like Skype and Hangouts.

I have tried the front two ports and tinkered with the settings and nothing has worked as of now, please help ASAP!

Yeah thats because Skullcandys aren't really built for computers, just iPhone & Android. I had the same issue with my Skullcandy headphones and decided to buy a legit for PC headset. Sorry you spent your money on them!

built a new comp with the asus p5w dh deluxe with its 8 channel or whatever audio capabilities, installed the RealTek HD Audio manager but i cant get my subwoofer to do anything. everything comes down to the front 2 speakers in terms of bass. ive tried a number of switches but now im thinking maybe they just wont do. the last batch of klipsch i had were thx certified (older models of the ones i have now) so i figure these are as well but the retarded realtek only does dolby, im sure that has nothing to do with it but it wont list 5.1 on its options. as a note, i get sound out of my center speaker but again nothign out the subwoofer. i have a soundcard, a soundblaster from way back in 2001 that supports 5.1 but i figured this would do a better job.

setup is:
core 2 duo 2.4
geil 2gig 6400
asus p5w dh deluxe
HIS x1800gto (trying to get to xl)
sata 250
ata 80 and a dying 40gig (trying to get as much stuff out of it as possible before i throw it away)
dvd burner

A:cant get klipsch 5.1 speakers to fully work on asus with realtek hd audio manager

I could be way off, but the Realtek audio software usually gangs the sub into the speakers. So, 5.1 = 6 speaker config. 7.1 = 8 speaker config.

Not sure how you have things wired back/panel and in the software, but perhaps trying the 6 speaker setting may fix things.. unless it's for Dolby surround only (which expects your speakers to do the crossover/encoding).

I installed Windows 8 Enterprise today for testing purposes, I did it for my father too, and I was happy seeing, how well it works. So I did the same on my PC too, but I have one serious problem. I can't install the audio driver at all!

When I try to install it starts installing it, it copies the files of the control panel, and at the end I got error 0xE0000247.

I was "googleing" this error message, and everything I found was related to Windows XP SP3 or other Windows versions, so it wasn't helpful.
So here is the list I tried:

-run the installer in compatibility mode (the driver itself is marked as Windows 8 x64 compatible, but I gave it a try).

-try to install the driver via device manager, it didn't work, once my PC restarted. I must note, there are TWO High Definition Audio device in device manager, I guess, one of them is the videocard's HDMI driver. I installed ATI driver, -I expected, one of them will change, but both of them are still the same.

-I removed the drivers, reset computer, drivers installed back automatically.

-Removed the drivers, reset PC, start the installer. No error this time! But nothing happened. It was looking like a successful installation (compatibility mode was disabled on the installer), I could choose restart now or restart later, so it was looking good. But on taskbar, the speaker icon had that white cross in red circle mark. (I removed the two drivers, so that was because of that, but if the driver was really installed, it sho... Read more

Win XP drivers are not compatible with Vista/Win7/Win8. Some audio functions are handled differently in later Windows versions and the reason XP drivers will not work, or work properly.

If you can't find a driver that will work with that Foxconn motherboard you will have to install a separate PCI (or PCIeX1) sound card that is compatible.

Hello, I am not able to get any sound out of my speakers since installing the newest driver for my Geforce GTX960. I tried going into Device Manager, uninstalling every audio driver under "sound, video & game controllers" including the Asus Xonar from my soundcard, the Realtek drivers, and the ones installed by Nvidia with the GPU driver, then rebooting, having M$ install the automatic one, still no luck. Any help is appreciated. I attached a screen of my playback devices tab to show what's going on. Thank you.

A:No sound from speakers/ Asus Xonar /Realtek after GPU driver install

well in that screenshot you have 2 devices selected.. do you use the Optical outs to a receiver on your setup?? IF not disable the Optical one and make sure your device was listed in Device manager..

I know with my sound blaster you boot up after installing the soundcard then Windows finds devices some generic like High Defintion device then you can install the drivers..

Also make sure your speakers are not on mute in the config there..

Over a year ago I got a Sony Vaio, model VGN-C140G, originally ran xp mce. 5 or 6 months in, it crashed and I ended up reformatting and installed xp pro sp2 2600....I've got mostly everything working, but am having a difficult time with audio.

I've (numerous times) installed and reinstalled the drivers from Sony's website, Realtek's website...After intense googling I found that I needed to install an ms hotfix before installing my sound card, so I did that, and continued trying to install various versions of RealTek's hd audio device driver (different forums seemed to recommend different versions to different users, and said that they are all apparently "the one for xp pro")....anyway the versions I've tried are the installation files: WDM_180, 182 and 187.

If anyone has any suggestions for me, I'd really appreciate it. It seems that other people have had this problem, after an upgrade, specifically when switching to Vista, but I'm still in xp...and what works for one person isn't working for everyone else (especially me!) so...

Thanks.

The new audio drivers aren't the same as the old ones. Sadly, you did lose quite a bit of customizability (and in my case, my microphone went from being loud and adjustable to really, really quiet).
