I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello! I?m going to keep this thread pretty quick, my computer started acting very strangely, turning on/off rapidly, and through a little internet searching, found that the quick fix was to reset the CMOS on my PC. After doing so, my computer finally turned on, but now doesn?t display, or give power to my RGB keyboard and mouse, although the RGB in the system works. I can?t get into the BIOS or anything, as it seems that the keyboard and mouse aren?t getting power, and the obvious display issue. However, the Bluetooth light on mhm Bluetooth adapter (also USB) does have a light on, so power is going to the USB ports. So, I?m thoroughly confused, and I?m wondering if anyone has a fix unknown to me as of yet, before I ship it out to somewhere for the next 3-4 months for repair (a horrible experience). Thanks!

OS:Windows 10
I?ll put out more info from the PC if needed.

Randomly doesnt detect HDD during start-up
Hey all new here, sort of totally baffled by this CONSTANT problem of mine.. Have had this pc for about 2 years and had problems with everything in it. basically. First off had to get my ram replaced after one of the twin sticks were faulty, had to replace my HDD after segments were corrupted, and CNET who fixed my pc broke my DVD burner. Lol.. But thats just me complaining, my problem lies with, I think. My Motherboard or. bios???

Problem: Sometimes during start-up it doesnt detect any HDD in my pc, just trys to run from my dvd drive then it cant so runs the Nvida boot agent. I have tried all the simple things of replace cables, changing boot order, repairing my MB drives with its CD, did a repair install of windows ect.. I even got a NEW HDD and new power supply (750watt true power) recently as I said before and it didnt help. I have basically replaced EVERYTHING in my pc except my Motherboard which is a GA-K8n SLI Pro. Oh this has been happing on and of since I got it.. yes I should have just returned it.. but im an optimist! I refuse to believe everything I had in my PC was faulty so I am seeking help for an obvious fix of some sort. Odd thing is, its working now. Started up fine, it does that time to time. Works anywhere from a few days to a few months.. Then u get a few days were it goes stupid and doesnt know i have a HDD.

I got CNet to install my HDD when I got a new one, so im guessing all that is in... Read more

Yesterday i installed a PCI wifi card in my pc after which my sound completely stopped working, i have tried updating drivers, selecting the right speakers in the windows control panel and pretty much any other suggestion i found on other sites. My concern is that i might have damaged my motherboard while installing the PCI (I hit it with a screw driver when trying to remove my GPU to fit the PCI in), and that this is the cause of the problem. Do you have any other ideas on how i can fix my sound in windows or should i just assume i damaged the motherboard and buy a soundcard/ a new motherboard?

A:Solved: PC sound doesn´t work.

The test is to remove the wireless card, as of course beofre you installed this the sound worked
If it then still does not work and there are no warnings shown in device manager for the sound then I think you can presume that you have indeed damaged the motherboard.
That said, is the sound coming from the integrated sound chip or from the GPU

Hi. I have four HP Envy notebook computers that I use regularly at work. Suddenly, starting up one day, all four computers stopped connecting to our wireless network. I tried at a different wireless network and neither of the computers still cant connect. I even tried a third and still no result. All of my other computers that runs Windows 10 (2 Acer, 1 Asus, 8 iMac) are still able to connect to all of the wireless networks. I even run Windows 10 on all 8 iMacs and they can still connect to all of the networks. And there hasnt been any chances to the wireless network. Strange thing is when I bring the computers to my home they can find my wireless network at home, all four of them with no problem. Ive tried all Windows repair and HP assistant and none of it works. Ive updated to the latest drivers and all I can think of. What can have happened. Ive noticed it has been a Windows update, but if that update have affected the network drivers,  how can it the work at home. I can also add that all four laptops work if I use Ethernet. Hope someone can help out. //Richard

Learn How to Post and More. I read your post about the WiFi issue, and wanted to assist you!  I understand that the Envy notebooks will no longer connect to the network.  However, they all connect to your home network.   If you believe an update to be the cause, you can try performing a System Restore, to set the notebooks back to their previous working states.  You can also try uninstalling the network drivers, then restarting the notebooks.  This should allow the system to install compatible drivers.  If you continue to have issues with the notebooks only connecting to the home network, then you may consider restarting/resetting the router.  Please post back with the results. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thanks! Have a great day!

Hi all,
I purchased a used IBM T41 laptop with WinXP and everything was working fine: cable and wireless internet, Dvd reader , wireless signal (like antenna) was flashing at the bottom of the screen, .
I had some problem and reinstalled OS: deleted partition and formatted into NTFS, install fresh WinXP.
I didnt get any error during installation, but some problem came after: internet, wireless connection, USB drivers, DVD reader and many other.
I couldnt find network adapter name in the Device manager.
To fix this problem I download drivers from IBM site and try one by one to install it.
Finally my internet start to work and I do not have any yellow question mark in Device Manger, but wireless internet and dvd writer do not work.
Network Adapter( in the Device Manader) and Network Connection display only cable internet device and do not have Wireless device type. Also, I have Wireless Link and Wireless Network icons on the Control panel.
Why wireless doesnt work? How can I fix it?
Is this possible that my laptop did not have wireless card before?
Is this possible that card stopped to work after reformatting to NTFS?

Thank you

Hello!

I'm looking for some advice and guidance.
I am not a technical expert on computer hardware. I understand the basics and that's about the extent of it.

My current PC is a Dell desktop/tower; it runs Windows 7; it uses an Intel Core Duo processor. It is a few years old (I'd estimate 3 or 4 years old). I plug my PC into a Belkin surge protector/multi-outlet device, which plugs into the wall electrical outlet.

My problem is that recently the PC randomly has been instantly powering-down and then a few seconds later powering-up again and rebooting. This happens twice or 3 times a day, on average. I have no explanation for it. I do know that it's highly annoying and I'm concerned and want to do something to fix this problem before any permanent damage occurs to my PC.

Last week, I searched the internet briefly for advice, and the two possible causes that popped-up in search results were: A) overheating, or B) issues with the power cord. Given that, over the past week, in my spare time, I have totally rerouted all the cords and wires behind my computer desk, to ensure that no wires were tangling, pulling, or weighing-down on the power cord for my PC. I also totally dusted out the cabinet and backside of the PC tower, and gently vacuumed the "fan" area on the back of the PC, to ensure it was free of dust and lint. I removed some random objects from the PC cabinet (CD's, mice, keyboard, etc.) to ensure that there was plenty of "ai... Read more

I think you mean you have a PS/2 mouse. Try another mouse, and see if that cures the problem. If not remove the mouse from Device Manager and on re-boot let Windows re-detect it to see if that helps.

Exact same problem on Windows 10.
Tried all of six steps above, including buying three new cables in step 6 one of those was the specific cable recomended by HP support.
Make 9 calls to HP  and 4 calls to Microsoft. HP signed me up for their paid Freinds Support and I called them 5 times.
I tried the monitor on a surface Book, and Asus Desktop and a Dell Destop. Did not work on any of them. I have installed the latest drivers multiple times and update the firmware in my laptops, Surface Dock and Asus Desktop.
HP connected to my Surface Book several times and installed two different - third psrty partitioning programs. One didn't work the other did but it was a trial version and wanted more money than I felt it should cost.

I'm using it as a single monitor with no partitioning. It mostly works but has some strange events where the mouse clicks are off by several undred pixles. rebooting fixes that.

Now I have atiny little spider runing arround under the front glass. Very distracting. How did it even get in there? I would have thought the area between the glass and the disply would be sealed arround the edges.

I have a lenovo z50-70 laptop with a built in cam. The cam works on skype, whatsapp, websites on firefox, and the built in Lenovo camera app. When I go on websites on google chrome that use the webcam it will not work even though those websites are always allowed to use the cam on chrome and the settings are not blocking camera use. Chrome is up to date along with the laptop cam driver. I even tried with all chrome extensions disabled and it still doesn't work.

Examples of websites are https://www.onlinemictest.com/webcam-test/, https://webcamtests.com/
The Cam will not work on chrome on these or any other websites that I have tried, but it works just fine on those same websites on firefox.

Any ideas on what it could be?

Essentially, everything is wrong with my computer and I have no way to fix it. The first problem arose about a year ago. My laptop battery suddenly wouldn?t register any charge, and could only be used while plugged in. I thought that might be a battery issue, but, a few months later, I replaced the battery and still had the same issue. Next, I started getting the ?blue screen of doom,? the Kernel Data Inpage Error. My laptop began to consistantly stop working after a few hours of use: webpages would stop loading, files wouldn?t open after being clicked, and then the mouse and screen would become unresponsive. Most of the time, I turn the computer off, unplug it, and restart it to resume use. However, if I left the computer on, it would either give a black screen reading ?all boot options are tried,? or the blue Kernel Data Inpage Error screen (the Kernel Data Inpage Error is the rarer of the two). It would last longerer the less I used it and after repeated sessions of rebooting after freezing, it would only last a few minutes. It also took a while after startup before it could open programs or load websites, but besides this, it still functioned as a proper computer, so, while frustrated and constantly attempting to find a solution, I dealt with it. However, recently, it?s begun to have errors opening any program not factory installed with windows or Google Chrome (I have no idea why Chrome, other browsers won?t open). Originally, I received an error box that... Read more

AMD Phenom II X6 1045
OCZ MODX STREAM-PRO PSU (700W)
8gb Corsair Vengance at 9-9-24 and 1600Mhz
Western Digital 1tb Green

I was told this was most likely a problem with HDD or RAM.
So i have tried replacing my HDD with an old spare, but the pc would still turned off. So i am running HD Tune on my primary HDD to test for errors.
The health tab returns no errors though so i am assuming that this is all good.

I ran memtest 86+ overnight , but with both sticks installed, and it returned no errors (should i retry with one stick at a time?) .

The apparent next cause of such an issue would be the PSU, but after runnnig occt for 30-60 mins it gave voltages on all 3 rails well within 5%, the largest deviation was about 0.5% . Should i also check the bios volatges ?

My cpu reaches about 70 C at full load under OCCT's burn in tests, so i dont think that would be a problem.

It seems to occur more in some games than others, although it also has occurred while at idle.

Also sometimes the peripherals and screen freeze for up to 3 seconds and then become responsive again, they also make the usb insertion sound when they reconnect , so i am assuming that they are losing signal from the mobo.

This leads me to believe that the mobo is the problem, although i dont have a spare one to test with at the moment.

One last note, it can freeze/turn off up to 5 times a day, but then work fine for then next 3-4 days... It seems completely random

My PC randomly shuts down. This all started roughly two weeks ago, but it keeps getting worse and more frequent. When it shuts down I have to flip the switch in the back, wait a few seconds, then flip it again before restarting. The power button on the front does nothing.
(The PC is completely off when it shuts down. It's not running at all)
I pinpointed the problem down to 3 possibilities out of everything I found on google that could be causing this.

1. Drivers are not up to date (this is a very high possibility BUT I think something is wrong because the updates are endless. Every time I log on to my PC, I get a notification from AMD that there is a new update available. I spent about an hour the other day just updating and restarting my PC over and over. Whats up with that?)

2. Overheating seems to be a common issue especially since it is Summer. BUT I have turned my fans up manually to 100%, simply started Overwatch, and just sat there at the Main Menu. My PC turned off within 30 seconds. I would say that is the issue but I have had my PC turn off during a Youtube video or just browsing the internet..... Plus my PC can handle BF4 and Overwatch with ease so why would it be an issue now?

3. I might have a virus. Windows Defender has been known to not be the best ( I have experienced this first hand) so this could be a possibility but I dont know for sure obviously.

I joined this website for this issue because I really dont know exactly what I am doing.

Hi guys,

I need some of your finest technical assistance!

I've been having a problem with my PC for months now where it seems to randomly turn off when under load (I've not seen it power off whilst doing regular tasks like word or chrome use).

I figured it was the power supply (that I have now replaced and the problem continues) causing the issues as the PC seems to just shut off instantly without warning. There are no blue screens or error messages when I turn the PC back on.

After looking at the event viewer this is what it tells me (see jpeg)

This is absolutely ruining my gaming experiences and if somebody could help me I'd be very grateful.

I'm having a problem with my new build, it keeps turning itself off at random times without warning. There's no specific pattern that I have noticed. Sometimes it won't even stay on long enough for me to reach the bios, and other times it will go all the way into my windows vista and stay on for a while. The first time I boot it up it was on for a good 4 hours, then it shut off. Turned it back on and it stayed on for like 2 hours. Now I'm at a point where its turning off at random times. What could be the problem?

WE are using very similar parts in our rigs but your pc cutting out could be a list of things. Anything from bios setup, drivers for numerous things and even bad wiring or memory setup. Without knowing what you have done to this machine it's very hard to tell and this kind of problem is a process of elimination. Tell us what you have installed and anything you altered in bios. If you overclocking it, then it's no wonder but odds are it's your bios or memory, possibly a driver. Set the bios to defeault or reset the Cmos on the board to reset it, install this Nvidia driver here
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Restart following Nvidia instructions and see how it runs. Beyond that you may want to adjust your memory and try setting it a lower frequency. Many think higher speed ram is best but it's actually not, will read higher on Vista only because of latency. I run 667mhz ram unlinked and set to 533mhz in bios and then matches the cpu internal freq of 266mhz (q6600). You have double that. If you overclocking the ram is what will get you 1st, and god only knows what your timings are. Try the bios reset and make sure oyu have the correct Nvidia driver and then see how it's going.

EDIT: I just realized something very important and more regarding your memory you are using.. you can't install 1066mhz ram on a 750i! You can get it up to 1066 overclocked but you can only use 800mhz ram!! Scratch the rest of my advice, you need 667... Read more

A:PC Randomly Turns off

hmmm, does this problem happen when you've been using the computer for a long time? if so, it may be the proc overheating and shutting itself down. Try reseating the heatsink / reapplying thermal paste on the processor, hopefully that will help.

Hello. I'm a new PC builder and only know the very basics. I just built a new computer and at ran into a few problems. My specs are:
Case: Antec P180 (3 fans)
MB: Asrock 4coredual-vsta
CPU: Intel e4300 (1.8ghz)
RAM: 2GB Kingston DDR2 667
VGA: NVIDIA 7600 GS (edit2)
HD: 320GB Seagate IDE
PSU: Thermaltake 430W
I connected everything (don't know much about PSU, just connected them all, I'm a bit ignorant about the whole voltage thing) and at first it works fine. I let it load and do the disk format thing when installing XP and leave it on while I fell asleep. Few hours later the computer is off. I turn it on and it turns off a few seconds later with nothing on the screen. Tried turning it on around five times and the same thing happens. I leave it alone and look on the internet for some solutions and then tried again. The computer works fine for around 20 minutes and then shuts down again. I try again and then it shuts down few seconds later. I turn it on in the next hour and it lasts for 1-2 hours before shutting down again. I look online with people with similar problems and ones saying its the CPU, the other says its the PSU, motherboard or RAM. I don't know who to listen to. I downloaded Speedfan and Core Temp and ones telling me around 75C. I freak out, go to the BIOS and set the CPU clock speed down. Now its running at 1.20GHz and its still pretty high (speedfan:50C when idle 75C when load / coretemp: 67C when idle and 75C when load). I think its the CP... Read more

I know there is a topic that addresses this already, but I have some computer-specific questions related to the procedure/advice that is given in the other thread. I have a IBM ThinkCentre 3.0Ghz machine that is randomly shutting itself off. It appears to be an overheating issue. The other post recommends checking the fans. I see two fans in there (they both work), but does anyone know how many fans there are in this machine (it's a tower). Is there a hidden fan that isn't working or is it just the two I can see? Second, if the heatsink has a thermal pad, do I still need to apply a new layer of thermal paste? Third, what temperature should a computer run at? The other post included a link to a diagnostic tool, but I don't have any benchmark for comparing my computer. Also, if the computer shuts down when it gets hot, how can I use the tool?

Thanks for your help!

A:My computer turns itself off randomly

computer shuts off randomly

Do you mean that if I just leave the computer sitting there after it has shut down, it will turn back on after 5-10 minutes? When the computer does its "I'm turning myself off in the middle of a process" routine, the mouse, keyboard, harddrive, all that junk turn off, but the power light remains on. Will it restart after it cools down? Also, when I try to restart the computer, it will get to the desktop, then shut down. It does get by the BIOS and loadup screens, though. Is this normal for an overheating issue? Finally, what kind of issues could it be with RAM? Are there any tests/diagnostic tools to check?

Thanks

I've always been running on A/C power but lately my computer loses power for no reason. It's not that it shuts down, but instead it just turns off like it suddenly lost power. I thought maybe my charger was dying so I bought one from HP but that hasn't changed anything. My battery hasn't worked in a really, really long time so I never put it in the laptop anymore. I tried the computer in the outlets in my bedroom and in the library and I got the same results. Sometimes the power shuts off as the computer is booting, other times it lets me get to the home screen and I can play on the computer on a while before it loses power. I always keep my laptop on top of a chill pad. Although I've noticed my fan doesn't turn on when I turn on my computer. Is it suppose to? Also, I think I might have heard a noise from my fan. How can I be sure it's the fan?

I have a HP G60 120US. I bought it in 2008. It's running off Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

A:My laptop randomly turns off

The laptop is definitely old enough for some service. It is possible that the cooling fan is worn out and/or dirty... if the fan is not running properly, the laptop will sense a over-heating condition and it will turn off. Have the laptop serviced and new batteries are cheap enough on EBay

Hello! I have a Dell inspiron laptop with a windows 7 OS. A few weeks ago, I had set down my laptop on my bed and had fallen asleep, only to awaken and see that it had turned off. I thought nothing of it then, believing it simply overheated but it's happened a few times since then. Today, I had set my laptop down on a glass table and I fell asleep on the sofa there, only to wake up four hours later with the laptop off. Again, I believed it was a heating problem but turning it on and going to the pool, I would return one hour later to see that it was off once more! It's strange, because it doesn't turn off when I am at it and doing something on the laptop but if I turn away form it, there is a chance that I may find it off when I return. It cannot be that someone is turning it off as I live by myself. Every time I turn it on after finding it off, it takes me to the Windows Error Recovery black page at the beginning.

Could this be a heating problem or something else?

Thank you very much!

A:Computer turns off randomly

Hello,

More than likely it IS an over heating issue started or aggravated by leaving it on the bed. That tends to block tightly the air ports in or out that vent the CPU and GPU.

The startup screen you note occurs after a crash so its not going to sleep or hibernation. You should check the power settings anyway and turn off any power saving features while your testing and switch to high performance. This should make the issue occur faster as well. Watch a movie or play a game to heat things up faster.

If that doesn't identify the cause let us know. If it does crash look to cleaning the vents with a vacuum, open the bottom panels and check for lint or dirty heatsinks and fan. if your lucky the thermal past is still good no balled solder issues.
Good luck,
Zen

Hi, ive been having this problem for a while but it is not constant. My computer will simply turn off randomly. Sometimes i can go for hours and hours of gaming and it will be fine so ive ruled out over heating as an issue. It was suggested that maybe a slot of RAM had become faulty causing my computer to turn off.

Today i decided to test my RAM by running high demanding programs hopefully causing my computer to switch off. Then i would take out a single slot of RAM to see if that was the problem. The thing is ive been running programs all day and my system hasn't shut off once. I know should be patient but to be honest this is taking the piss.

If anyone has had this sort of problem and could share some information on what may be causing the problem then please help.
