Internet Explorer Problems on my moms account and firefox problems on mine!

Q: Internet Explorer Problems on my moms account and firefox problems on mine!

Hello... A few things first: I'm 14 years old... I have never taken computer classes - I teach myself everything by using google ... But I have good experience of fixing problems I run into on my computer.... I can follow instructions you give me.

This is a weird issue that needs to get fixed. We have 2 accounts on our computer. We have Internet Explorer and Firefox installed. Internet explorer works perfectly on my account but on my moms account - when she tries to go to any website it says:
Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.

On my account when I open firefox I get this message before it opens:

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

We need help! We do not wish to pay for Tech Support as I am good at fixing stuff that happens to our computer. If you could help me with this issue that would be great! Reply here or send me and e-mail at Edited by Moderator....I have removed your email addy, not a good idea to post those in public; you can be a victim of terrible Spam!
OR you could refer me to a free tech support website!

Thanks sincerely for your consideration of getting this problem fixed!
Additional Details

I have around 120 gig free space and my antivirus is Eset Smart Security... I'm pretty sure I have no viruses as I scan with eset and malwarebytes. The problem with IE may have come from malware doing something to the registry? I use Ccleaner and Registry mechanic to clean registry issues.

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer Problems on my moms account and firefox problems on mine!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My internet explorer 'pins the needle' in the performance window when I go to yahoo games. I had a nasty little virus the 'your system has been compromised' and you need to buy this service blah, blah, blah. I poked and researched and got out all the little registry entries and deleted all of the .exe files attached to this junk. My firefox browser will snap shut for no reason at any time. The first highjack this log is for internet explorer when it is open, the second log is for when the firefox is open.

Recently my father clicked on one of those "You have a virus" ads which led to a blue screen and the computer constantly restarting. I took it to a local shop to just reformat the whole system. A week later I got problems with IE constantly giving me popups. I assumed it was some sort of malware and I used superantispy to remove it. Now I have a new problem, while I can load websites just fine when I enter the address in the address bar, I am unable to conduct searches with google. It just never loads. Also my father has told me he is unable to log onto his email at gmail because the loading jus continues with no progress.

Also the laptop is having problems with hooking up to a external monitor when before the reformat it didn't have that problem. It only lets me extend the desktop onto the monitor but it won't let me set the external monitor as a the primary one. The monitor is a Acer x18w I think.

Thanks so much for any help that can be provided

Heres the problem,
Since the 2nd week of february my internet explorer 7 web browser hasnt been working right. I found out that if turned off my computer and turn it back on my internet explorer wouldnt work. At first system restore fixed it but now no matter how many times i system restore it wont work. I just downloaded firefox (the new version) and its saying connection interrupted. As a side note yes my internet connection works fine. I have wireless so i shouldnt need proxy settings right? I've already pulled 7 viruses off of my computer from last night when i installed AVG and Avast on it to this morning. Do i have a worm? How would you get rid of worms? Is my firefox web browser not working because my IE7 web browser isnt?? Its not supposed to right? what do i do to fix this? Who can i go to?

Other problems
would age have anything to do with all the problems? (its 4-5 years old)
another problem would be that i need a new CD drive but i need to know whether or not it would be smart to buy a external CD drive or another internal one.
would it be cheaper to get more RAM for my laptop for gaming , a new CD drive and possibly a new operating system or to get a new laptop?
would getting a new operating system delete things from your previous operating system? (files, games, music, pictures ,etc).

A:Internet explorer 7/ Firefox web browser problems

Ok we really need some more information to answer you some parts.

As to your internet issue, it sounds like you may have a hardware issue going on, but its hard to tell for sure. If you are using wireless you should not be needing a proxy server (proxy server is a thing outside of your network and has nothing to do with your issue). If you have a setting in IE that says a proxy server, more than likely you need to uncheck that selection.

To your other problems, age could have to do with your problem, mainly in that your hardware may be old and dying, all electronics fail at some point. Most computer's should last the standard issue somewhere around 5 years (some people more or less depending on what they do or dont do.)

An external cd drive for a laptop would suck in my opinion. Another thing to have to lug around and get in the way, i would go with an internal one. RAM upgrades for laptops can be expensive. Most laptops only come with 2 slots for RAM, so you either have to live with what you have or getter bigger modules to replace what you have.

If all else fails you dont need to get a new operating system, just wipe everyhting out and reload the windows that is installed on the system. PM or reply to this if interested and I can give you steps to follow, the only problem is you will need the operating disc that correspondes to what is loaded on the system.

Hope this helps.

Hi there

My vista laptop was fine with internet explorer, and firefox when i changed for about nine months, now its non responsive, will load/not load a page as it feels, facebook is a nightmare, as is ebay quido.com hotukdeals.co.uk updated and ran avg 8.0 nothing, updated and ran windows defender nothing, not allowed anything new past zonealarm uninstalled firefox and personnel settings and reinstalled, it is the same, performed a windows update successfully, added no hardware or software recently. The only security stuff i use i have mentioned, ive not used a registry editior or any other ( I CAN FIX YOUR PC NOW) stuff what so ever, i have uninstalled firefox at the moment and internet explorer is a little more responsive, im guessing a setting or registry entry has altered and is blocking it, I have also turned off firewall and anti virus still the same. Any ideas as i dont really want to wipe the PC there has to be something i have missed any help would be great.

many thanks.

Is the Desktop like a web page? Try right clicking on the Desktop and uncheck Active Desktop if it's there.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you ma... Read more

Hey I've been having major problems with my Laptop.
Every ten or so minutes when my McAfee 2010 security suite disables real-time scanning it'll re-enable itself causing a lot of alarming pop-up boxes which is slowing my computer. Not sure whats causing it but it seems like malware.
Next theres this process which starts at windows start-up (DivxUpdate.exe), I don't think this is actually a part of divx. I've read somewhere that it is a form of autorun malware, it consumes 99% of my cpu majorly slowing down my computer, I think I may have similar malware on here that are problematic.
Also my firefox frequently say that there's an unresponsive script which temporarily freezes my whole computer and when I finally manage to get to task manager I have to end the process which seems to be using a regular amount of cpu and memory.
I made a topic exactly 1 month ago but nobody answered so I thought I'd make a new one seeing as the problems are progressing and building up.

Thanks for any help I'm provided with.

Hi,
This is my first post here, so I hope that I follow all of the rules. And thanks in advance for any help. My computer has been running slow for a while, and I think one of my kids might have gone to a website that allowed some malware in. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have noticed a few things, 1. Had a problem with Adobe acrobat reader, it wouldn't update for some reason, and couldn't open PDF files for a while, after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I think it is now working. Also noticed more recently when working in MS Word 03 every once in a while it won't let me save files. Now I am noticing that when I have Internet Explorer open for a while, IE tries to pop open a new window, to which the IP address is blocked by K9 web protection 91.212.226.6 is the IP. After googling this IP address, I found a few posts leading me to think there might be a trojan kicking around on my pc. I have run MBAM and Hijackthis in an attempt to find the culprit, but MBAM comes up clean, and I can't find it on Hijackthis. Any help woould be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey Guys, when I try to open IE. a small window pops up and says IE has been stopped and will not work. What should I do to get it to start working again?

Firefox works but has at the bottom right and left of the screen two vibrating windows telling me I need to update a program that is already updated. Plus, has a x and HIDE button, but only hides the screen a little over a quarter of the way.

I have posted the once or twice, but got know reply to the problem. I figured it was because Firefox isn't a MS product. If so, just please answer the IE question.

Thanks TC

Chrome I hate to say works pretty good, but everytime I open it three small Malware windows open at the Top Right of the screen one on top of the other and my Malware program blocks it to be Quarantined !

I play a game that utilizes a much higher than normal system requirements as compared to a lot of games. I have since met those requirements a year and a half ago, and have played fine since. But now (first time since, and did get a 5.5 update from ati.com) after game reaches full screen mode (its only way to play) and basically my way to play it, my computer brings up blue screen saying physical memory was dumped. and it listed a file, but I do not understand the problem, I reinstalled my 3D drivers from my video cards packaged CD, I use an ATI Radeon 9600pro, and the file that seemed to be messed up was called: ati3duag.dll.

I am sorry if there isn't anymore info I can give off the top of my head, so if you you can help and need to know more, ask me some questions.

EDIT: I still have the problems after reinstalling 3D drivers, but maybe if there is a way I can remove ALL of those drivers (including 1 from website) and just reinstalling my CD, how could I do that?

Hello all,

I am having problems internet connectivity with my work-assigned laptop.

I have a new Compaq laptop running on Windows XP Pro SP3 (it originally came with Windows 7 but our office still runs on XP, so they downgraded the laptop...anyway).

Before, the user account that I had was a limited account. Whenever I tried connecting to a wireless network other than the one at work, I can connect to the network, but I don't get internet access. However, if I logged into the "administrator" account, I can connect to the internet.

I asked support at work if this can be fixed, so they made my user account into an admin account yesterday. Then I brought the laptop home for the weekend to do some work, since I'm going to be travelling tomorrow (it's already the weekend here in the Pacific).

So, I tried logging on to the wireless network here at home. This time, my user account is already admin. Like before, I can connect to the network, but still no internet access.

I can't ask anyone from our work support team since it's already the weekend.

Can anyone help me out with this problem please?

Thanks!

most company machines have a number of policies on the PC and its difficult for us to know that information and make any changes , so we may not be able to fully help here - but lets have a look and see what we can do in a limited way
The company firewall may be the issue - what firewall do you have ?
Would you post back the following

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Hello,

I recently installed/run AdwCleaner v4.110 and let it delete some files and registry keys on my Vista pc. I was just trying to clean some traces of old/residual infections. Everything was fine prior to the install. Now windows explorer stopped working as well as my installed programs have selective start-up. Sometimes they start, other they wont.
Firefox would default to its home page, but I cant open anything further, no web search, simply unresponsive! Everytime I type web address or google search - nothing happens. As for IE, it shows "internet connection".
I tried to run/update Malwarebytes but it wont let me. I tried rebooting in Safe Mode but it did not help, I get the exact same issues as in normal mode. Another problem is that there are no Restore Points as I had System Restore turned off.
Here is a copy of the AdwCleaner log file:

Do you use chrome and does it also lag out?  I used to use firefox but I frequently lag also.  Usually closing unneeded programs and clearing some space on your computer fixes it.

Hi, about 2 days ago I turned on my pc and many weird things started happening...
first it took a lot of time for the explorer.exe to load, so the desktop or taskbar didn't appear until after maybe 10-15 minutes. Then, the taskbar looked really weird, it seemed like it had been cut horizontally, so you couldn't get to see the whole lower part of the taskbar (and it wasn't the screen size config... since I tried changing that and it didn't work). I thought it might be some kind of virus, so I opened Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I got the following message:

I'm having issues opening any folders or directories through explorer without these popups and google searches being spawned... When this happens I also usually get a windows error reporting popup letting me know there is a problem with explorer.exe and it will need to be closed and asking if I want to send an error report. Then everything pretty much locks up, until I end the process trees for any "drwatson" instances in the resident programs listing. It then restarts explorer and I'm good as long as I don't try to open any directories or folders again.

|Edit| I forgot to mention that I have run spywareblaster with the most recent updates, Spybot runs everystartup and is fully updated, and I have updated and run a full thorough Avast! scan which found two issues, but supposedly deleted both and then I ran a bootscan after to make sure it cleared up anything that might have been in memory.

And here is the HJT log which I feel pretty comfortable has a few no-no's in it and I know what they are, but I'm not sure about some of the winsock hooks and don't want to start deleting those without a professional opinion.

I have a Dell Studio 1749 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Windows Explorer is not working. That is, Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. It seemed like every forum I already checked this confused people. The only way I am able to communicate with you fine folks is to manually run Firefox using the Task Manager interface. Here are the things I have tried, and the things that I am incapable of trying, and why:

1.) I tried booting in safe mode. Windows Explorer still would not work.

2.) I tried booting with only the bare necessities through System Configuration (msconfig) by selecting Diagnostic Startup, but the problem still occurred when I would boot to my desktop.

3.) I tried doing a system restore to 3 days ago, before the problem ever occurred, but it simply didn't seem to take, as some software I installed just last night was still here when it booted. That was a weird one.

4.) I tried rebooting with a chkdsk /r, but I could not get this to work because in order to set that up, you need to be able to run the command prompt with administrative privileges, which I cannot because Windows Explorer is not working. (I feel that maybe there is some secret way to do a chkdsk without needing the command prompt, but I couldn't find instructions anywhere.)

5.) I tried uninstalling the software that I believe to be the culprit, which happens to be Skype. Last night I received some pictu... Read more

Hiya
For months now ive had a problem with connecting to some websites and my internet connection.

When i log into websites (such as myspace, ebay, hotmail) or when i use google to search for something, i usually get a 'server not found' page and i have to refresh 3/4 times before the page loads or logs me in. If i use google images, none of the images actually load and i have to refresh the page to see them.

On my old laptop, i had a virus (zlob dns?) which affected the router settings or something and redirected certain websites, and although a professional removed the virus from the laptop, it was still there and kept coming back and redirecting websites, so to fix this i altered a setting in the router (it was either 'use static IP address' to 'get dynamically' changed, DNS from "these servers" to "get automatically" changed or both, im not sure as it was quite a few months ago). This seemed to stop the virus or whatever it was redirecting webpages.

Everything was fine until shortly after when i updated firefox to 3.6.3. and when my brother began using xbox live.
Thats when the logging in problems started. At first i thought it was just my old laptop, but i recently bought a new one and installed firefox and the same problems keep coming up, so i figured it cant be the laptops fault, it must either be firefox or my wireless. On my new laptop, the internet was fine until after a day or two, the 'server not found' problems began showing like on my... Read more

Essentially, at one point I did have the Vundo Trojan. After trying to find different fixers, i found one (VundoFix) that did work.

I no longer get the pop-ups associated with it, but my internet is still just as slow as before. I am not sure whether or not it is just the remainants of the virus or my firefox is stupid. My firefox freezes and stops loading sites like facebook, and certain other websites only half load. They start loading, and some images or other parts just don't load. Firefox says i is still trying to load it, but it just stops and won;t load.

Another problem is that youtube, when i try to watch a video, shows the LOADING screen for at least 5 minutes before showing any video. This only started after the virus.

I will post the hijackthis log in a later post (like after this one). (IF needed)

Please, does someone know what is happening or has this happened to you?

I have looked at all the firefox help forums where this has happened to other people, but it also sortof happens to be in IE7 too....(grr)...so... any help is appreciated.

A friend of mine recently purchased a Dell Inspirion 537S. I personally set it up and installed all the additional software, and everything on it was running just dandy. However, a couple days after I set the system up, his Internet started acting screwy. He can only access a very small handful of websites (Google.com, PhiladelphiaEagles.com, state.nj.us, Marvel.com). But about 95% of other websites simply wont load including major sites like CNN.com, Microsoft.com, Dell.com and Firefox.

I get no error messages. The page keeps trying to load, and you can see the little IE icon doing it's thing, but the page just stays white. It's not an ISP issue. 3 Comcast technicians have looked into it and left scratching their heads. I've tried 2 different laptops, and both can access the internet using the wireless router just fine.

I've disabled the Windows Firewall and the Mcafee Firewall that came with the machine. I've set the IE security settings to the lowest possible settings, I've even used Dell's System Restore to bring the system back to it's factory settings (it formats the partition and everything). Still, the internet is a no go.

To add to the mystery, if I ping a site like www.disney.com I get a response, but the site wont load. I've tried everything short of installing a new browser (a last resort which I don't think will really work).

I spent 70 dollars talking to Dell tech support, which at best is completely oblivious. I spent an hour waiting for the guy to flip thr... Read more

Hello,

I reformatted my hard drive and upgraded to Windows XP SP3 recently, so I've been reinstalling a lot of programs. As I was struggling to reinstall Flash CS3, I suddenly realized that Firefox 3.5.5 would crash whenever I tried entering a search phrase into Google.

The first thing I did in response to this problem was to try reinstalling Firefox, but I was shocked to find that I couldn't even start the installation program. I double-click on "Firefox Setup 3.5.5.exe", and nothing happens. Not even an error message. Restarting my computer didn't help matters either.

I even tried opening Internet Explorer 8 to see if it would react the same way to a search phrase typed into Google, but it crashes whenever I try to open it.

I have the feeling these might be warning signs of a serious problem, possibly even some missing system files. What should I do?

When I try and access Mozilla, it shows up as "Looking for page..." and then decides the page cannot be found. MSN, however apologetic, also refuses to work: "Sorry, we are unable to sign you into the MSN Messenger at this time." and for both, I cannot find a reason why. Ive conducted several virus, spyware and adware searches, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Good morning,
This may be a common error and a probably easy one to solve. But since I am not a computer expert I need your help please.
When I run the Network Diagnostics for Windows XP, it shows:
"Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP.
This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.
Check the firewall settings for the HTTP Port (80); HTTPS Port (443) and FTP Port (21).

I would like to clarify that I have not changed the firewall settings. This problem appeared after a run a deep MSE and showed me that I was infected with bacdoor:win32/cycbot.B.

Apparently MSE cleaned and removed the mentioned virus. The rest of the computer is working just fine but I cannot get it to the internet.

I do know for a fact that I have internet connection, since I have an network and I am writing you from another computer within the network.

Will someone be able to help me????? Please????

Long story short:
I run win xp, home version 2002, sp3 with 512Mb Ram. Sp3 was installed prior to ie8 update. I had compatibility issues with ie8 running some of my websites. I couldn't uninstall ie8 and use ie7. Since then I've gone through trying every suggested fix I could find. Currently my internet explorer won't open completely, it looks like it almost wants to then fails with no error message and my clock has since decided to give me military time. Herre's my most current log:
