I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Some information on my PC: Lenovo x250Windows 10Version 10.0.10586 Build 10586System Model - 20CMCTO1WWSystem Type - x64BIOS Version & Date - LENOVO N10ET33W (1.12), 4/6/2015Two batteries (Internal 3-cell battery & hot-swappable 6-cell rear battery) My laptop charges normally when it is shut down, charging up to 100% every time, but when it is turned on, it does not want to charge. I have tried the method presented in the following YouTube video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFGfAKj0xFM This method involves uninstalling my batteries under device manager, along with the AC adapter, rebooting my PC after, and then re-plugging my AC adapter in. I have tried this method several times, with different variations (shutting down instead of restarting, having the AC adapter plugged in when I am uninstalling the batteries, removing the external battery and only uninstalling the internal battery, etc. etc.) as well, all to no avail. Also, every time my computer boots up, I get a small window that says "Configuration system failed to initialize" with the header saying, "Another instance is running". Maybe this has something to do with the battery issue?A picture of this error is here: https://www.google.com/search?q=configuration+system+failed+to+initialize+windows+10&biw=765&bih=758... Thanks for the help!

Hello. Is there any reason Battery #1 (Internal battery) lists as Not Present? I've just updated to the latest BIOS for this laptop. I have installed the Lenovo Power Manager v 6.68.8 and under that application it only lists the removable battery. I've also checked settings in the BIOS to see if it can be turned on and I did not see anything listed that would let me makes changes to the Internal battery. Before this laptop I used a Lenovo X240 laptop and on that laptop it would list both Internal and Removable batteries in the Lenovo Power Manager application.

Hey guys, I recently dumped my BIOS with the "Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit" in search for changing a DVMT value and I noticed something very curious. If you use a program called "UEFITool" to open the BIOS you dump on this laptop, and CTRL+F "DVMT" under text, it will bring you to a section named "PlatformHiiAdvancedDxe". Upon extracting the body of the PE32 image, I noticed that there appears to be a hidden tab in the BIOS named "Advanced" with several useful settings. I'm having an odd problem with a ThinkPad X250, connected to an Ultra Dock, and the HDMI output. On my monitor it works fine, without any issues, but on another monitor, specifically one attached to an Optelec ClearView HD device, it doesn't seem to work. The PC doesn't recognise anything being connected, and the monitor itself doesn't show anything on it. The next part is a bit long to explain, so apologies in advance: The problem monitor connects to a camera for the device, it uses a HDMI to DVI-D connection (the monitor only has a DVI-D or VGA input), and this works, the camera image is visible as expected. What should happen is that the HDMI input on the back of the camera control box can have a HDMI cable put into it from a PC (or laptop and dock in this case), and you can then flick between the camera and the PC input, but this doesn't work, instead when flicking to the PC it displays a black screen. Interestingly the control box doesn't give a red 'x' that it does when nothing is connected, so it knows something is there, but can't display it. To narrow the issue down, I tried connecting the HDMI to DVI-D connection that the camera uses to the Ultra Dock, and that didn't work either. As far as Windows is concerned for both connections (HDMI and HDMI to DVI-D) there's nothing there (I check on the laptop screen under display settings). I've called Optelec about it, and they've not had the same problem, but are looking into it. I was wonderi... Read more

So i have a X250 with both internal and external batteries, i recentley upgraded the bios to version 1.27 and reinstalled my machine from scratch. This is when i noticed that it uses the internal battery first, and then immidiately powers off instead of using the external one. I haven't found anywhere in the bios that i can set the priority of the batteries but shouldn't it be the other way around by default?  Any help is greatly appreciated

It's really bright and have already been like this for weeks. The colour is slightly wrong as well. Restarting, shutting down or closing and opening the lid does nothing. It got stuck after I disconnected it from my docking station, so I tried connecting it and disconnecting again - nothing. I've updated Windows and nothing there as well. I'm getting really frustrated since nothing works.. Is there something to do? Please help..

Greetings, I just have a quick question, does the Lenovo X250 or will the X260 be compatible with both an SSD and an MSATA storage option? I plan to buy the X260 sometime in late March, but my biggest concern is swapping out the included 500 GB hard drive, or at least supplementing it with an MSATA 500 GB drive. I am worried about how I am going to get windows 10 on the drive, given that by swaping the main drive I will get rid of the OS. So my plan is to find a way to move the O.S. from the main drive to an MSATA. However, if there is a way for me to simply install a new SSD (500GB) and replace the included 500GB 7200 RPM drive, then I would just rather do that. Not having the CD or CD key seems to make re-installing the OS rather difficult though. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Hi,one of the guys at my workplace uses two displays with his X250 and Pro Dock. One of them is an LCD 1080p connected through DP and the second one was an ancient display with 1440x900p panel connected through VGA. Week ago or so the VGA display started flickering, and is unusable for work since it hurts your eyes after a while.I have tried every solution that was either recommended on the internet or I thought of, yet the problems persist.Until now, I have tried changing the cable, display, Pro Dock, none of that worked. I also tried installing latest firmware from Lenovo Update for the Dock and latest BIOS. I even reinstalled Intel HD Graphics driver, along with some other drivers from Lenovo support page. The display works properly when connected directly to the notebook, only in the dock it starts flickering. Is there anyone that had similiar problem and knows how to fix it?

I purchased this used X250 (Product Number 20CMOOE5US) last week with Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit Edition. I downloaded and installed Lenovo Vantage from Microsoft Store which is built-in in the Windows 10. The Lenovo System Update utility updated several components but failed with a BIOS update. The current BIOS version listed at the bottom of the Lenovo Vantage window is N10ET21W 0.21. I tried the stand-alone BIOS update version 1.27 downloaded from https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds102288, which also failed in the same way: the error message reads "OEM check failed from BIOS service. The utility process has not completed." I also noticed this weired label in the System Information for the processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5### CPU @ 2.2GHz 2.19GHz. I guess a BIOS update would correct the processor info. But then how do I get BIOS updated? Please advise.

Hi! I've been having an issue with my Lenovo X250 for a few days now. All of a sudden, I have been unable to type any characters and the keys do not appear to be working. However, certain keys still do: for example, when I press the Esc button the Fn key lights up. I do not have to touch the Fn key at all and the light switching on and off is simply controlled by the Esc key. I am therefore able to use functions such as controlling the screen brightness and changing the volume. I can also now use normal functions such as F5 to refresh a webpage. My Ctrl button also works (so I can control and click to open a new tab fine). The trackpad and the trackpoint work fine and I can click all of those buttons. Also, certain functions still work i.e. pressing '4' will send the computer to sleep. Because of this I am led to believe that maybe the Function key is stuck down? Last night I was suddenly able to type again and it seemed like the Esc key was no longer controlling the Fn light alone. This was not due to anything I had done. However, this morning it wasn't working again. After severe key mashing along the F1-9 keys it worked for all of a few seconds before reverting back to being unable to type characters. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling keyboard drivers and using different ones. I have also tried all manner of keyboard shortcuts through an external keyboard and on my laptop one. Additionally, I tried holding down the different keys on the bottom left ... Read more

Have you checked your USB ports for damaged/bent/shorted pins?

That can cause what you report, although I've personally only  heard of it on older (T400 or so) laptops.

Easy to check.

Hello, Two times in the last two days, the following has happened: I unplug my computer from the power cord, and then the screen sort of splits so that the main content of the screen is still mostly there but is overlain by a copy of the screen flying around really quickly. It sort of looks like you are in a subway train passing really quickly by thousands of posters of the screen, but the window you are looking out is also a translucent image of the same thing.I took a video of it the second time, but unfortunately I was on the website for my bank, and you can read all of the account numbers so I can't share the video. Yesterday afternoon my Lenovo did a hardware scan and gave me the error code: WCP03E000-UN7DCG, which I can't figure out the meaning to. This preceded the initial event by about an hour. If anyone knows what is going on, I would appreciate the help. Thanks

Hey. So I recently bought a second hand X250. There are no issues, and once I updated the drivers, most evreything seemed to be working fine. The only issue I have is with the two finger scrolling. So, two finger scrolling itself is fine, but if I lift a finger, it keeps scrolling even when I'm moving with one finger. For example, I'm Scrolling through a page for a link, I find it, then want to click on it. As I move my finger, the screen scrolls instead of the cursor moving. The simple solution would be to just lift my fingers and put it back down, but at this point, it's a habit. I've seen a couple of other posts about it, but havne't seen any solutions. Has anyone found a fix for this?

A:Lenovo B50-30 3.5 Harddrive not seen

Hi ctohelpsu ,

Greetings.

Are those 3.5 HDD you tried working on a different pc or at least detected in the BIOS ?
Would we be able to isolate both power and data cables used in working condition ?

Try to turn off and unplug from the power port and press down power to drain .
Turn on and tap F1 again fro BIOS and load defaults F9 then save and exit .
Check if BIOS would be able to check HDD ?

Update us how that would so we can isolate the point of failures.

Regards

If your system has Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller, (as you have), select Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller.
No need to change BIOS, just download the drivers from the link to a floppy desk, start ur windows installation and press F6 at the very start. Then press "S" and select "Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI", press "enter" and continue the installation on your T60 ;-)

Hi, I've started my Lenovo and it suddenly stopped seeing my SSD Disk First of all I've got Boot Menu all the time - even tough I choose Windows Boot Menager it returns to Boot Menu again I check the BIOS and it occurs that hard disk 1 is NOT INSTALLED (?) Whole info about the system is also gone... I've tried to start it with the Legacy mode but it does not work. I've also tried to remove the battery. Is there any chance to turn it on ? Maybe with some program or through the pendrive...?Would it be possible to retrieve data from this disk? It is very important for me. I attached the whole BIOS info

A:Can not start Lenovo - Notebook does not see harddrive with windows on it

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but it looks like the SSD is logically damaged.  Do you have a backup?  You may be able to mound the drive in a housing or with an adapter hooked to another machine to pull off files.

Dear Lenovo, I have buyed a Lenovo s21e20 2 years ago and  I have a lot of problems.First the laptop gets very hot beacause of the RAM usage in the background , The second one is that I have always the problem that it says  "You runnning out of memory please close your programs" . I tryed everything I know, even a factory reset doesnt help. After the factory reset I have for example 10 GB free out of 21,4 GB but after a reboot of the computer it goes to 2 GB and even 0 MB. This is very frustrating for me because I am using this for school and nothing helps.I am running at Windows 8.1 and I have 2 GB of RAM. Maybe someone can help me with this problem. Thanks in advanced.

Hi all, not sure if I'll get a response to this but thought it was worth a try. So for all intents and purposes, I have buggered my g50-70. its out of warranty so I don't have much chance of repair. Essentially the harddrive was starting to flake out and reset at the slightest nudge or minor movement on my lap, and the other night it did it for the umpteenth time and I finally lost my rag. I closed the lid hard and since then, the laptop won't boot up and complains that the "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed" and I therefore cannot load it up etc I was going to buy a new HDD and try to set it up fresh using drivers etc but the laptop came with windows 8 and upgraded to windows 10 for free, so what can I do in this situation? do I have to buy a windows license again? Can I install the operating system from scratch? Or is there a way to recover my operating system if the hdd fails? Bearing in mind that I don't know when I last did any kind of backup etc Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Basically, the Laptop will no longer detect the SSD (or HDD, doesn't make a difference) placed
in the caddy anymore. It never worked 100%, but for a long period of time it worked atleast most
of the time. Every 5th boot or so, it wouldn't get recognised - which is why I never put the OS
on the SSD, since it was to unreliable. Instead, I put my audio software, plugins and video caches
onto the SSD (I know, that's not really the point... But I feel like it made some difference).
For a few weeks now, no harddrive in the caddy whatsoever is recognised at all. Not in the Bios,
not in the device manager and not in Windows' harddrive manager. This was more of a gradual
thing, i got a bunch of blue screens durring the boot process (usually at the Windows 7 loading bar).
Occasionally, it will show up in the boot menu - but as soon as I actually boot, it will once again be undetectable.
The CD drive works just fine when I put it back in, so it can't be the SATA port.
I tried three different Caddys, so that can't be the problem either- unless the G510 need... Read more

I have just purchased the Lenovo IdeaCentre 510 Tower PC [i7]. It came with Windows 10 Home OS. Within the set up, it asked me whether I wanted to install updates to Windows 10 - i said 'yes'. It took a good couple of hours to complete the whole set up of the desktop, but according to the log, all Windows updates appear to have been successfully installed. (I mention this because I later found something on Lenovo's website about updating to Windows 10 when setting up your Lenovo for the first time - it mentioned trouble which may include the damaging or disabling of hardware? I can't seem to find this again, or else i would post a link. I think this may have been referring to upgrades to earlier windows versions rather than upgrades for Windows 10 applied to a machine which is sold with Windows 10 already installed.) My desktop seems to be up and running but I have just attempted to connect my Seagate Backup Plus portable drive using the USB port and it will not recognise it (I tried this on several ports).  I can feel the Seagate working but it does not show up under My Computer or anywhere else I can see.  I have tested the USB port by inserting a regular USB pen drive and it DOES recognise this. The Seagate previously worked on my Windows Surface Pro 3 with no trouble and I have all of my files backed up on it.  Hope somebody can help me figure out what is going wrong...  Many thanks!

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit factory installed. Due to some major problems with the USB-drivers, I want to do a fresh Windows 7 installation, but in a different way. I've created a new partition on the harddrive, and I would like to install Windows on that new partition, so there are 2 Windows installations on 2 different partitions, and then transfer the data between the partitions, and install the programs over time, and then finally delete the old installation, when I've finished setting up the new installation with programs and data. My questions is now:1. Is it possible to do that, and how do I do it?2. I want to do a original Windows OEM installation, with the Lenovo drivers and all that, but what do I need to do that?3. Will the product key on the computer work on both installations at the same time, when they are on 2 different partitions, but on the same computer? Best regards:Aksel Christoffersen

I recently bought a new Lenovo G780, as my old HP laptop failed on me. However, the harddrive from my HP was fine, so when I got the new computer I decided to just take the harddrive out of my HP and put it into my new Lenovo. I've got the drivers for everything else to work, except my wireless network adapter refuses to install drivers from any source I can find. The adapter is an Atheros AR9285. I've tried lenovo's online drivers, and have even bought Driver Manager and asked the support staff to find drivers that work for me. They said they found one that worked, but I tried installing it and it said that "This computer is not manufactured by Quanta Computers" and then didn't install it. I have them working on that right now. But seriously, if they don't find a solution, what could the problem be? And how do I get my network adapter working again?

Here is some additional important information:
-The harddrive they gave me came with windows 7 x64 home edition. I am using windows 7 x64 professional.
-The wireless network adapter works if I use the harddrive the computer came with
-I am a chemical engineering college student who needs internet to do his assignments, and this little netgear usb adapter my friend lent me isn't cutting it

Please help me. Let me know if you need any further information

Hello and welcome nitro Mate one thing I didn't see you mention is the Device Manager in Control Panel have you tried that yet? CP > Device manager > open it up like in pic right click the adaptor > it will ask you to look for updates - it may come back as the correct one or not. See pic first.

If not have a look at this thread Best Atheros AR 9285 Driver? - Tech Support Forum there maybe something in there.

My Dell Vostro 1400 Laptop recently quit working. Its only 4 months old.
I turned it on and it came to a screen saying,

"Windows dould not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
"\windows\system32\config\system"
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair"

I inserted the setup disc and booted from it, when I got the the Repair option it says,"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue."

So I took the computer down to the local computer store and they put in a new 130 GB harddrive, ran the setup disk again and it displayed the same missing HDD message.

Anyone have any Ideas of what could be wrong???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, and welcome to TSF. If it's still under warranty I would take it back to the suppliers.

I have this WD My Passport external portable harddrive which I have used for a couple of years. I was writing something to the drive one day when the USB connection seems to be somewhat loose and the drive disconnected momentarily and reconnected itself but the file I was trying to write ended prematurely...

Now when I try to use the Seagate Harddrive test tool for windows and do a Short Generic test and the result failed.. I am fear it might have been caused by the disconnection and might eventually corrupt the entire drive... I try to run chkdsk but there aren't any errors detected it seems and files seems to be accessible as normal... Is there a way to fix the harddrive without losing data in the drive or confirm the drive is indeed failing?

A:Seagate Harddrive test tool fail but harddrive data seems intact

Run the most thorough and extensive test available with the WD hard drive utilities.

If it fails the thorough test, you may have a warranty claim.

Or the Seagate tool. Whatever you have. Your title is confusing.

Hi,

I recently had a very strong magnet. The magnet was then stuck (By a child) to my laptop. I then had errors on boot. I tried reinstalling Vista with the restore disk, but I recieved "Error - Cannot set temp path".

I today purchased a 250gb harddrive (a upgrade from my 120gb), and then Vista installed fine.

Now it runs fine, but I get bluescreens after random amounts of time, with errors involving a windows file. Unfortunately, I don't have the bluescreen error details at the moment. I have however uploaded the 3 minidumps from the 3 occasions.

Is it possible that another part of the computer was damaged by the magnet? Ram?

Thank's,

Tom

I have pretty old secondary hard drive (11 years) and currently in power settings there is an option to put hard drive in sleep mode if it's been idle for X minutes. Is it a good idea to disable this setting and let the harddrive spin all the time, since as I know, frequently enabling/disabling hard drives makes more damage than never putting harddrive to sleep.

A:Harddrive health with harddrive auto-stop in idle

Is the drive going to sleep now ?

You should consider buying a new drive to replace that one, then copy your data over before it dies

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Also, since I'm backing up my entire harddrive which contains my operating system windows vista premium will this conflict with any license agreement?
