Spurious shortcut assignment

Q: Spurious shortcut assignment

Hi All,

It's my first post here so go easy on me!

I've a fair knowledge of all things windows, but this one has me stumped.

If i hold "space" and tap "AltGr", then "MySQL Query Browser" launches. It's as if i assigned a shortcut to it.

However - i didn't ever assign this shortcut, and to the best of my knowledge, you can't have the space bar as the first part (hold down) of a shortcut anyway.

More Info:
Space + AltGr = MySQL Query Browser
AltGr + Space = Nothing

Ctrl + Alt + Space = Nothing
Ctrl + Space + Alt = MySQL Query Browser

Alt + Ctrl + Space = Nothing
Alt + Space + Ctrl = MySQL Query Browser

Space + Ctrl + Alt = MySQL Query Browser
Space + Alt + Ctrl = MySQL Query Browser

Any ideas how i can unassign this? It's not a hindrance as the Mysql windows are easily closed, but it is annoying that i can't figure out why it's happening or how to stop it.

OS is 7x64.

Thanks for reading,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am getting spurious messages which ask me to load my xp Pro CD with Front Page - I have neither XP Pro nor Front page. After several clicks the messages go away, but randomly re-occur. I have a new Win 7 installation on a new hard drive that was done by a commissioned computer tech.

I noticed that I have many, many fonts that I do not recognize or, presumably, need. They are all Asian or foreign fonts with names like "Arabic Typsetting," "Batang Che," "Aparajita", "DFMincho," "DFKai" and "DFKaiSho," "DokChampa" and "DotumChe." To name a few in the first quarter of an alphabetical list.

Can I safely get rid of these?

A:spurious fonts on new Win 7 installation

All fonts you listed are default in win7. Would not advise to delete. You might just have a program that uses one of them.

In the summer i bought a photo keyring for my wife. It came with a disc to organise loading photos onto it. The disc was faulty so i just uninstalled what i could. Still, months later, at boot up, I am asked to insert the driver disc as soon as windows opens. Irritating, not fatal, but i would dearly like to resolve it. I have looked in start up, i really have no idea what i am doing though.
Help please.

A:Spurious request for driver?!?

It would help to know what the name of the program was called. If you can find it in startup, simply uncheck it. In the services tab right next to the startup tab, check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft services" and then see if you can find it there. Uncheck it. You can always recheck these items again, so don't worry about it. If neither of these work, see if you can find it in Device Manager (press win+r, type devmgmt.msc). You may want to try uninstalling the device from there, if one exists. This last step may require you to be a little more careful, so if you're unsure, post back here.

By the way, I suggest using an advanced uninstaller, like Revo, to make sure programs don't leave any junk behind.

I am not totally sure that this is the correct place for this but on the basis that I think it is being driven by some form of malware I'll start here.

Over the last 5 or 6 weeks I have begun to be plagued by more and more spurious instant message windows popping up on my Windows Messenger Live. I have searched the net but don't seem to be able to turn much up, maybe I am not searching the correct thing I don't know.

However what is happening when I am logged into messenger is that instant message windows pop up purporting to be from people who are in my contacts but the message always contains some form of link to select, something I have never done. This can vary from porn offerings to winning things, as per attached.

I am getting the same problem whether I use my laptop or desktop PC. I have no issues with either PC and have run full system scans with Norton & AVG plus online scans at Trend and Panda but everything appears to be clear.

So am I just a victim of problems on my contacts PC's which are trying to spread themselves?

Is my PC infected?

Is my messenger profile infected somehow centrally which is causing this?

Does anyone know anything about, or is suffering, such things and what might be the solution?

There are programs which trigger 'expected newer windows version - update' when I try to install them in WinMe, yet the vendor of TK8 is adamant that it can run in WinMe. In fact he says that the text of the 'error' notification does not even occur in the code. I would very much like to have TK8 run in WinMe, so I need help 1. to discover what already-installed software/driver might be triggering the notification and 2. devise a work-around. Is that available ?

A:Spurious error notification

I am unsure about their claim frankly, Winme is a decade or so old OS, and as far as I know, it is about 5 years or so since the support for this OS was ended by MS, so there is every possibility that some software may not work, due to various reasons including meeting standards for newer OS available now.

Was unable to complete an Amazon transaction yesterday -- checkout pages wouldn't load without repeated attempts. Then found that search engine results were being redirected. I'm running WinXP and have an HP Laserjet 4P. This has been working for years on my old (Win98) computer and, as far as I noticed, worked OK on my new XP machine. However, I now seem to get some spurious characters (usually special symbols and feint lines) added to the first page of printed documents. It's as though there is some rubbish in the buffer left over or added from somewhere. Could this be a problem with XP (the driver?) or the printer itself?
I am wary of attempting to re-install the driver as the last time I did this (on the Win98 machine) I had a lot of difficulty re-installing it from the CD (and I only have a recovery disc for XP) or from the HP website (the printer is no longer supported and there is only a postscript driver version available).
Can anyone suggest a solution? If it involves re-installing the driver, how do I back it up first?

Hi guys, I've had the Lenovo T450S since January this year.  It has been plagued with touchpad problems.  I was getting constant popups of all kinds from translation requests to research requests, to copy/paste types.  I finally convinced Lenovo to replace the laptop in June.  Their tech said it was a HW problem. The replacement was fine for a couple of weeks, then right click type popups started to appear, MORE and MORE frequently.  I switched to Windows 10, hoping that would do the trick. NO!   I've had our IT guy working on it, no joy. I've reset the touchpad settings to be as insensitive as possible. m Surely, I'm not the only one who has this problem.  Just about every time I left click, and frequently when I'm in the middle of typing, a dialog screen pops up.  I've been using laptops for 30 + years and have never had this kind of problem.  Anyone had this experience? Thank you

When I reply to an email, Mail keeps adding spurious PNG files to my messages. They definitely aren't there when I hit "send" or when they're in my outbox, but they are attached to the mail before the recipient gets it. Sometimes I see them in my "Sent" file, but not always; usually the recipient cannot open them and often I cannot do so either, but when I can open them they seem to show a graphic related to the business of the original sender of the mail that I am replying to (it doesn't happen if I start a new mail instead of replying to one)

Can anybody explain to me what is going on?

Thanks to the help given to me by the forum so far my Excel 2010 macros are now working perfectly again, but there is one strange anomaly.

In the middle of one of my cells there appears to be a capital T followed by a comma.

When I click on the cell nothing appears in the data entry field, if I try and overwrite the characters it appears to work but when I leave the field the entry has the T, overlaid over it.

I've tried playing with various formats to no avail.

I've even deleted the column and then the row but the character is always there.

Is there any condition which will project a character onto a cell even when it's not entered as data.

Friends I am a bit confused as to the firewall capabilities of ordinary small-office routers from Netgear & Linksys for instance, versus the firewall capabilities of the VPN-Capable routers from the same.
The VPN group trumpets their enhanced firewall security features but I'm not convinced that the features are any stronger for these than for the non-VPN type.

can anyone speak to this?
What we're trying to trap or stop is malware that gets on one of the systems behind the wall, then opens a port, or a whole lotta ports, and starts pinging away at the other spammers and malicious stuff. I assume that some of these employ a P2P scheme and others just fire the addresses at whatever ports they can get out on.

What do I buy?

A:Firewalling outgoing spurious/malicious traffic?

Most SOHO router firewalls are very good at blocking any unsolicited incoming requests. The difference may come with outgoing requests, though you'd have to be specific about the router make/model to make any sort of comparison of capabilities.

My Son uses Live Messenger to chat to his school friends but recently mentioned somebody else was typing messges in his conversation that he was not typing. Tonight i confirmed that messages were being written by somebody but appeared under his and his buddy's username. I pretended to be my Son and tried to draw out of the message writer who they were and what they could do, but they signed off.

Has anyone else ever been in this situation? Have I actually been hacked because they 'alleged' to be able to see my files, but when quizzed, i don't think this was true.

So, I barely know how to state this question, which is probably not a good sign.

I am working on a self-referencing constraint and want to prevent reciprocal values. Say, for example, my relations were thus:

fruit_name | fruit_color | fruit_taste
orange | orange | sour
lemon | yellow | sour
lime | green | sour
apple | red | sweet

fruit_name | fruit_like
orange | lemon
orange | lime
lime | lemon
[COLOR="Red"]lemon | lime[/COLOR][/SIZE]

I want the constraint to prevent the last record in `tbl_fruit_associations` (the red one) as spurious. The logic in question is the commutative property of associated pairs.

I'd prefer to use a DB solution rather than an application layer solution, if that can be done. Any ideas?

Thanks for input,

I meant "self-referencing" not "self-reflexive."

A:Solved: How to avoid spurious records in Access 2010

Sorry to bump; looks like I should have done more research about the new features in Office 2007/2010. Apparently Access almost supports triggers these days, only they're called data macros. I was able to accomplish what I needed by creating a data macro like so:

[SIZE="3"][b]Look Up A Record In[/b] tbl_fruit_associations
[b]Where Condition =[/b]([t_f_a].[fruit_like]=[tbl_fruit_associations].[fruit_name]) And
[b]Alias[/b] t_f_a

Error Number 1
Error Description The fruit are already associated.[/SIZE]

Having only just discovered the feature, I can only guess at this point, but I believe the crux of this is the Alias property: since the table is self-referencing, the alias is necessary to distinguish the macro query (i.e. "lookup") from the real table.

Anyway, in layman's terms, here is what happens:
User attempts to create a new record by providing values for the fruit_name and fruit_like fields
Access does not immediately create the new record
Access searches the table for any record where fruit_name has the proposed fruit_like value and fruit_like has the proposed fruit_name value
If such a record is found, Access raises an error with a meaningful message and prevents the new record from being created
Of course, I don't have to worry about the possibility of strictly duplicate r... Read more

Since 'upgrading' to Office 365, I have been plagued by problems that indicate some sort of infection. In the Office apps, the program behaves as though there is a small and slow buffer; keystrokes do not show up or come very slowly (1 character per second or so), some characters do not register at all until rétyped, typing quickly produces random garbage, etc.
The missing characters problem occurs in all apps in a way that suggests that the ctrl key is randomly being turned on - the above word "retyped" is an example - typed the same way as in this sentence, but the 'e' has been replaced with an accented version.
SFC shows only a bunch of missing mp3 and wmv 'sample' files - which of course cannot be 'fixed' following the Windows.com instruction (the log does not give the path name, but the instructions ask me to take ownership using the full path - cannot search for missing files, either).

Hi there, title says it all really. Upon startup recieve the standard Windows message that the Sygate program encountered a problem etc.

When using Google, and clicking on hyperlinks, I am sent to hxxp://cliccker.cn/ and sites of that ilk, I've removed a lot of extra code from that link, suffice to say the site never works.

Also I have been recieving messages that my virtual memory is nearing capacity.

In a more immediate development, I cannot post the dds.scr results as the tool did not work for me, rather than the black screen described in the "how to" topic I was presented with a notepad filled with random symbols and letters.

The ark.txt should be included.

Thanks in advance

Sadly I installed the [now withdrawn] GRET54WW (1.31 ) BIOS update which patched the Spectre vulnerability on my X1 Carbon 20A7 model a couple of weeks ago. I've since been experiencing spurious reboots when coming out of sleep and random BSODs --- which are obviously the reasons for the update being withdrawn. Is there a way to downgrade the BIOS to a prior level? Not sure that I can live with this until 3/31/2018!

I have added many tiles on the Start Screen for applications that I use regularly. I?ve also added quite a few shortcuts to Access databases that I use. I?ve also performed this process for an Excel workbook that I use regularly. They have
been working for years. About three months ago, the tile to the Excel workbook would launch Excel but not open the Excel workbook.
Several times I have unpinned the shortcut, deleted the shortcut from the Programs folder. I then recreated the shortcut to the Excel workbook. I tested the shortcut to ensure that the workbook file was loaded. It worked. I copied that shortcut to the Programs
folder where the tiles that came with Windows 10 and the ones I added are located. I retested that shortcut. Again, it worked by launching Excel and opening my workbook. Lastly, I pinned it to the Start Screen. I moved the tile to the desired location.
I click on it to test it. Excel is launched but the workbook is not opened.
I have 12 tiles that point to shortcuts to Access databases that I have created using the same process. They all work and continue to work.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem or even ideas that may lead to a solution?
Thank you.

Currently I have a desktop shortcut to PuttyCyg (a modified version of PuTTY) which I have configured Ctrl+Alt+C as a keyboard shortcut to launch the program. Trouble is, once there is one instance of the program open, when I enter Ctrl+Alt+C again, instead of opening another instance of the program, it brings the window of the currently open instance to the front. This is strange, because when I actually click on the shortcut multiple times, the default behavior is to open multiple instances of the program. How can I change it so that hitting the keyboard shortcut forces new instances to open? Do I have to resort to things like writing a VBScript?

Hi guys n girls,

I have for ever got sick and tired of right click -> open Send to Menu and creating a Desktop Shortcut for a file or app....then needing to go to the Desktop right click the newly made shortcut and then removing the trailing file extension, dash and words shortcut in brackets. If you are like me and you want a solution where you just right click -. Create shortcut and forget and not need to do anymore then look no further.

I have small AutoIT app (compiled script) that does exactly that.

Desktop (create shortcut).au3 SHA1 - 630A9CE23BF669035EEB089C2948BBD8B38BB505
Desktop (create shortcut).exe SHA1 - 829518AD4233E59D686822D960AAC71405D57CCD
Desktop (create shortcut).ico SHA1 - 16239287978841199F8A2FC56AA36EE55F197083

Download Link Desktop (create shortcut).zip

Virustotal readout - God knows why anyone would use any of the virus scanners flagging AutoIT as a virus. This indicates to me that they are merely only searching for header info and not actually decyphering any of the code. That should be alarming to anyone. Anyway here it is, it gets 2 false negatives out of 52.

Now the code so that you can compile it all your self. For the Geeks in other words

I am currently studying C# and received a practice assignment for this:

Write a program for a teacher.The program should have an array that can hold the
test scores for 30 students.The program can randomly assign grades from 1 to 100 .
Determine the average score for the class.

This is what I came up with:

using System;
class Aprog{
public static void Main(){
int[] grade= new int[31];
int ctr;
System.Random rnd=new System.Random();
Console.WriteLine("Student{0}, Grade:{1}",ctr,grade[ctr]);
if(grade[ctr]>0 && grade[ctr]<50){
else if(grade[ctr]>50 && grade[ctr]<60){
else if(grade[ctr]>60 && grade[ctr]<70){
else if(grade[ctr]>70 && grade[ctr]<80){

It works but some how it does not feel right or kind off sloppy. Does anyone know of a better way to create this application?

Hi gfxrelay,

Never refrain from using methods to make the coding more readable :

[SIZE=2]using System;
class Aprog{
public static void Main(){
int[] grade= new int[31];
int ctr;
System.Random rnd=new System.Random();
Console.WriteLine("Student{0}, Grade:{1}",ctr,grade[ctr]);

private static string getLevel(int grade) {
if (grade >= 80) return "A";
if (grade >= 70) return "B";
if (grade >= 60) return "C";
if (grade >= 50) return "D";
return "F";

You are part of a software development team. I am your project leader. Our assignment is to develop a virtual calculator for the University. We have decided to develop the calculator using C++. I have given you the task to develop another math library called (arrays.h). In this library you are to develop the following functions:

add, subtract, multiply
These functions will take an array of numbers, the array size and two integer numbers as their parameters. The two integer numbers represent locations in the array. It will add, substract, or multiply the numbers at the two specified locations in the array return the result.
It should be able to handle arrays that are doubles, ints, and longs.
Return values should be of the same type as the array.

Hi guys! I am trying to find out how to assign hot keys to a specific action. Currently, I am having to copy and paste the BB code for font and color to every post I make on forums. [color=red][font=arial]this is what I type[/color][/font]

I would like to assign one of my hot keys to copy and paste this code so I don't have to do it manually every time. Anyone know how to do this? thanks in advance!

A:Hot key assignment

You can use the buttons that are along the top in the editing mode to make those codes automatically. Or you can use something like the free version of PhraseExpress to type any phrases you like with key combos.

I really have to finish my computer assignment and I am confused at few questions.

1) Say Computer A has a 1GHz processor and 16-but word size. Computer B has a 2GHz processor and 32-bit word size. Compare the processing speeds of these computers quantitatively. Show calculations.

2) Conversion from true-color graphic to black and white. Explain what the conversion did in terms of pixel bytes or bits.

3) If you run the CPU simulator program, you will find that it uses the system bus 12 times. Explain how this number comes about. (You must explain why based on how cpu operates. This will involve a little arithmetic. Show all).

The last questions I believe uses the concept of

1) Fetch
2) Decode
3) Execute
4) Store.
