Preferred Solution: Windows 8 Downgrade to Windows 7 Lenovo Y410p. Windows install stuck.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What does "whipped hard drive" mean ?

Why are you following guides about an installation error - have you had that happen?

Not sure what the question is.

Dear All, I got a user who asked me to downgrade from Windows 10 to 7 on his yoga 3. I'm encountering a lot of problems since when I tried to start the windows 7 installation both from usb boot and CD, the system gives me an error regarding some driver missing. I performed a low level format so the PC is clean. After some researches I understood that the problem could be related to the usb3.0 drivers that are missing on the win7 image. So I tried to upgrade the .wim with the DISM feature using the CMD. This didn't work either.  Honestly at this point I don't know how to proceed. I used both 2.0 and 3.0 bootable usb drives (with the driver update) and I tried with the Installation CD. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks for your help Kind Regards, Alessio

Hello,

Try running the Change Product Key (filename: CHANGEPK.EXE) program and entering the Product Key that you have for Windows 10 Pro.  A reboot may be required for the change to take effect.

Hi guys!

So I bought a laptop a year ago and it came with the windows 8 OS. However, after some time the windows 8 OS was really getting on my nerves and I wanted to downgrade to windows 7 OS.

The problem is that I was able to successfully install windows 7 ultimate to my laptop and after giving it a name and a username, the laptop would reboot like normal. Upon reaching the windows logo screen with the four colors the blue screen of death comes on with this error code:

STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x000000000001000A, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

(keep in mind that the code trails off the screen where I can barely count the zeros, so I don't know if this is correct or not)

The laptop I bought is an ASUS X550LB-NH52
Intel Core i5 4200U (1.60GHz)
8GB Memory
750 GB HDD
Windows 8 64-bit

I have tried looking around numerous places but could not find an answer.

1)There was a reference to the bios might being outdated or not compatible, so I tried updating the bios by flashing it, but ASUS bios for the laptop didn't help at all.

2) I tried reinstalling windows again but arrived at the same problem again.

3) I have set the secure boot to disabled, and enabled "Launch CSM", and "Launch PXE OpROM policy"

4) I don't believe my ram sticks are unseated as the laptop was working just fine before my OS downgrade, nor have I dropped it in the process.

I've read in a few places that pe... Read more

Hello,

Have you tried running any hardware diagnostics tests via your bios startup or download one and run via usb? I know its ironic how you just replaced software and its not working but i would double check on your hardware. Now you said you re-installed windows? Which version? back to 8 or reloaded windows 7 ultimate? I would try installing another version. You can download any version iso online and use the same CD key. This should at least get you pointed in the right directly please let me know the results of the tests.

I have used windows 10 for a while and decideded to downgrade to 7. I changed the partition and disk format during a clean win 7 installation. I have installed most of the device driver without issues except WLAN. I serached within the forum and downloaded as many possible drivers as I could find. Tried every one of them, they either give me NO PROER DRIVER TO INSTALL or give me error 1185. I have no clue how to proceed at this point. Will highly appreciate if some one can give me some help to resolve this problem. Thanks in advance, Joe.

Hi, I want to downgrade to windows 7 because windows 10 has been too unstable for me when using various old audio hardware and software that doesn't have windows 10 drivers (and probably never will). I want to go back to windows 7 because it was alot more stable for me. I understand because the partition type is different for windows 10 I need to clear all partitions and start from scratch. So I have a few questions.. -Has anyone done this recently do he windows 7 drivers for the y5070 work ok? I heard about some problems with the intel video driver. -Will I be able to restore it with the windows 10 and lenovo drivers easily if I change my mind? There seems to be alot of small partitions that come with this setup for windows, recovery etc, would these be able to be restored automatically? -My laptop came with windows 10 preinstalled, if I want to go back how will I activate it again, I cant see a serial key anywhere. Thanks for any advice you an give!

Hey guys,

I have purchased the Yoga 13 in U.A.E in last Feb. with AED4,999.00
But some programms does not work with Windows 8. So I am using Windows7 with multi-boot.

Guess you guys also have such problem.. eventually finding out the WIFI Driver & USB3.0 Driver.
Now, I have succeeded in installing both of them.

1. Wireless Lan Driver : Realtek RTL8723A Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter.
The way I found this driver is... Download all the REALTEK driver in a designated folder.. of course uncompressed.
And then using the contraol panel... updated the driver with the designated folder.
Now it is working very well.
2. USB3.0 Driver
It was an easy game. I just have downloaded thee Intel USB3.0 Driver for Windows7... you could find it through google with easy.
And just installed it. It works very well.

=> You could download the file at http://me2.do/xKBVnWo3
      (just put password : 4321 )

If you guys have problem with above issues... or need the file let me know with my mail at xxxxxxxxxxx

Anyhow, there are still two drivers I couldn't find.

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a Lenovo laptop that originally had Windows 7 Home Premium. there was 289 updates two weeks ago, I made sure that they were all installed before shutting it down, but somehow the laptop magically downloaded and installed more while the computer was off for two weeks. I turn it on and get a "configuring Windows Updates" and then it automatically restarts, upon restart, it gets stuck on the Windows logos screen "starting Windows" for 20 minutes and now it has been stuck on the "Please wait..." screen for four hours! I hard shut it down, it get suck again same on Windows logo and same "please wait", hard shut down, choose safe mode, and the same thing happens yet again! I cannot get into the computer whatsoever and the machine was running PERFECTLY two weeks ago! It was flawless two weeks ago and now it won't get past the startup screen!

M installing windows 7 form an unlegit copy of windows xp (I didn't to that, friend did :(. He kinda ripped me off, anyway) we bought a good legit copy, did a custom install from xp, not from disc as it would not let us, due to some kind of virtual drive being created, when unlegit copy was installed (I think). When it went to restart, it started up, loaded a bit, than went to a black screen where it read "starting windows" except without the usual logo. We are planning to do a hard drive format to clean it up and boot off disc to fix, any other simpler solutions?

If you are trying to upgrade XP to Windows 7, you can't as there's no upgrade path from XP to Windows 7. Windows 7 has to be installed on to an empty partition using a full version Windows 7 DVD (ie not an upgrade version).

Hi there everyone, sorry for the inconvenience but I'm looking to install windows 7 x64 on my laptop, which came with Windows 8 pro... I didn't like it that much and had some compatibility issues so I tried to install windows 7 over it, I disabled UEFI secure boot and booted from the DVD, now what I see is a bunch of partitions, there are two OEM partitions, one is partition 0 and the other is reserved for SAMSUNG ( I think, because it's labeled SAMSUNG and my laptop is of the same brand) then there's another SAMSUNG partition, a MSR partition, a SYSTEM partition and a partition that holds around 90% of the space (600 and something GB) the first problem is that I don't feel comfortable erasing any of these partitions so that I can expand others and maybe create a single partition, the second is that I can't erase some of the partitions and the last one is that I when I try to install it to the bigger partition it says that I can't do that because it is a GPT-type partition or something like that.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you very much

Maybe this will help some people. It's a little easier alternative if you're in the same situation I am.

->Purchased new laptop with Windows 8.1 factory installed
->Purchased on April 14, 2014

->Laptop has UEFI motherboard
->HDD is setup w/ GPT

->Inserted Windows 7 Professional DVD
->Windows 7 setup cannot find a HDD / requests drivers

======FIX======
1.) Right-click your start button on the Desktop
2.) Choose "Disk Management"
3.) Right-click on your main HDD and choose "Shrink volume"
4.) Choose whatever size
5.) Right-click on the newly created unallocated space and choose "New Simple Volume"
6.) Do NOT format this volume
7.) Insert your DVD/USB/load ISO/whatever and start Windows 7 Setup
8.) I chose not to go online and get the newest updates, but that's up to you
9.) Choose your newly created simple volume
10.) Let setup continue as normal (Your installation will now find the hard drive(s) and partition(s))
11.) Once you're booted into Windows 7, right-click on computer and choose "manage"
12.) Go back to "Disk Management," and delete all your other partitions.
13.) Right-click on your Windows 7 Partition and choose "Expand this volume"
14.) You've essentially performed a clean install

If this proves to be a useful method for anyone else who's recently purchased a Windows 8 computer and is looking to (up)downgrade to Windows 7, I'll update it to be more in-depth and include pictures.

Hello everyone, Since about five days ago, everytime I turn on my laptop, it starts normally. It goes into the black-background lenovo startup with a white loading symbol. Then, after maybe 5 rotations of the dots in the loading symbol, it freezes. It does not progress into starting up. At this point, I usually turn off my laptop by holding the power button. If I don't turn it off myself, it turns off automatically a few minutes later.  Every 2 or 3 times I turn on my computer, instead of the loading symbol, it turns into a "Preparing Automatic Repair" mode. I have seen the loading symbol for this mode but then it disappears and nothing happens and it turns off automatically after ten minutes or so. I've seen the same solution that help others with the same problem which is to take out the DVD from the laptop. I did this and my problem has not changed.  edit: g500 to g505

So my dad wanted to upgrade his windows Vista gateway computer at work to windows 8 because my brother had what we thought was a Windows 8 install disc. There were three discs, Lenovo Windows 8 recovery media disc 1, 2, and Windows 8 pro operating system recovery disc. I backed up all the documents and pics and things I thought he might need and put in the first recovery media disc, turned off the computer, told the boot to use that disc, and let it do it's thing until it said to put in Windows 8 Pro operating system recovery disc. It said recovery failed. It didn't seem like it was going to do anything so I hit cancel, and now I can't boot the pc at all. Everytime I try to do something, it goes to a black screen with some copyright stuff on it, and DHCP spins for a bit, and it says Reboot and Select proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key. Was using the recovery discs a bad idea because it seemed to have started erasing things and then failed part way through. Can I even get back to Vista by doing like loading an old system restore point?

Update: I tried putting in the Windows 8 recovery discs again and got no recognition at all, the same with the Windows 98 disc I found (I know). So I revealed the issue to my dad and he said that since our computer is 6 years old, he had been looking online and found a $200 refurbished computer. We decided to get a new computer, basically.

A:Used Lenovo windows 8 recovery disc to try and install Windows 8. Can't boot pc now

I'm surprised that the Lenovo Recovery didn't notice the incorrect hardware and quit immediately. But since it apparently did wipe something out before failing you will probably have to use the proper Vista recovery DVDs (assuming you have them or can still buy them from Gateway) to get going again.

If Windows 8.1 is wanted you can probably still buy a Installation DVD. Has any check been made to assure that the PC will run Windows 8 or 8.1?

Hi there all,

My friend brought over his Sony Vaio SVE151J11M today as it would not load boot up (Windows 8), I have here a genuine copy of Windows 7 which I purchased a couple of years ago and the disc has been kept in immaculate condition but it will not install onto this laptop.

When I press power the VAIO screen comes up, it then it says "please wait" and then a spinning circle of dots appear but then goes on to a black (back lit) screen, I can hear the disc spinning as it should do but it then stops and does nothing.

I had changed the boot priority to Optical drive boot but it just won't work, is there something stopping me from being able to put Windows 7 onto this Windows 8 laptop or am I doing something wrong?

Also, I installed Windows 7 onto another hard drive using another laptop which works fine but when I removed it and placed it into the SVE151J11M it just comes up with "Operating System Not Found".

This is getting very frustrating and I really want to do this for him.

Many kind thanks all

I have a Lenovo T440S that had Windows 10 installed. I needed to downgrade to Win 7 due to some software compatibility issues. I deleted all of the partitions, created one large partition, used the clean function in diskpart and converted to MBR, I then put my windows disk on a USB, formatting the USB drive in FAT32 for the install of win 7 since I have no optical drive. I also changed the bios from UEFI to legacy first and the CSM support to on. I booted to the USB with no problems and installed Windows 64 professional. The install seemed uneventful, I named the computer, selected a password and then the install completed and did the final restart. At that point it started to boot, the Lenovo "ThinkPad" splashscreen came on and went dark, as if it was going into windows, but then it repeated, the "ThinkPad" splash screen with the "To interrupt normal start up, press enter" message came up again and this repeats over and over with out end. I tried the reinstall and various and sundry bios settings but nothing helps. I also tried to repair using the USB win 7 installation drive, but I got a "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible" error. Possibly because the drive is FAT32 and the installation is NTFS?? Right now my T440S is a brick and I am pulling my hair out. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. My girfriend got herself Y700-17. I installed Win 7 64bit on this laptop and it's working almost ok. The only problem is that the cpu (i5-6300hq) frequency is stuck at 2.2 ghz (cpuz shows it varies between 2193, 2194 and 2195 ghz). It will never go down or up to 3.2ghz like it should (or even 2.3, it's nominal frequency). It's frustrating because it makes the system fans run audibly loud even when not necessary, and the cpu is not reaching it's full potential. I read other similar  topic and saw that everything was normal under windows 10 so I'm gonna install it and try, but I'd really like to avoid having to use that system. Does all the skylakes behave like this under windows 7?

A:Vista Gets Stuck, and Stuck on windows 7 install

I'd suggest starting with running a memory test ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial146.html ); then following that with a bootable hard drive diagnostic:

Here's a description from my blog:

Code:
What you'll need:
- a blank CD
- a computer with an internet connection where you can download a file, install a small program, and burn a CD (doesn't have to be the computer that you'll be testing).

1. Determine the make and model of your hard drive

- In Windows XP - Go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there)

- In Windows VISTA - Go to Start...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there

- From outside of Windows: Unplug the system from the wall, remove the battery (if it's a laptop) and crack the case open. If you decide you don't want or don't like Windows 10 and you want to downgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you have 30 days from the upgrade date to do it, or else you'll need to do a clean reinstall.

You can read about it here.

What's the model name and complete model number of that Lenovo, and is it a desktop or a laptop?

What exactly did you do to it before this issue started?

Hi! I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my Yoga 2 Pro. Since then I cannot adjust screen brightness. The Fn Keys won't work and brightness has disappeared from all Windows menus. I read that so many people are experiencing the same problem. I have tried every possible thing: all possible driver changes, driver updates, driver roll-backs, switching to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, Generic PnP Monitor updating. I need to find a way to change the brightness. It is stuck at 100%, I can't even look at my screen.

Hello folks,  I seem to be having some issue with installing Windows 10. I found the Lenovo Upgrade Checklist and followed the steps point for point. (https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht104203) After downloading the update, it requested a restart and booted up into the update screen. The update got to around 20% and restarted as noted on the update screen.  Once again I'm presented with the Lenovo boot screen but this time it doesn't seem to be progressing, nothing has changed for the last 50 minutes and counting. What was other people's experience through the upgrade? Should I be prepared for a longer wait or is this abnormal to the process? Thanks for taking the time to read!

I have a Lenovo E440 and I tried to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. However currently it is stuck on a black screen. From what I have read the issue is because of having a Nvidia graphics card and the driver is not installed.  I have gone into safe mode by pressing shift F8 and went to the advanced start up repair and enabled safe mode. However, on restarting the system , I still see the blank screen. How am I supposed to proceed in this case. Also, mine is a dual booted system with Ubuntu installed. To go into safe mode, I choose Windows from the Grub menu and then press shift F8. I have tried following the steps on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/troubleshoot-black-screen-problems and https://support.lenovo.com/ae/en/documents/ht080004, but I have not been able to resolve it. Pls suggest!

Hey all,

I have recently decided to restore my laptop back to factory settings for various reasons.

The factory settings on the recovery partition mean returning to Windows 8.1 and then upgrading back to Windows 10.

I have no problem returning to Windows 8.1 but when I use the Windows Media Creation tool to download Windows 10 and install something happens.

I start the installation where it says the computer will restart several times, but during one of the restarts it gets stuck at the Lenovo splash screen.

I have since run restore to get back to 8.1 a couple of times just in case there was a problem there but still the same problem happens when trying to upgrade to 10.

I have had no problem returning to 8.1 and then upgrading to 10 in the past.

I'm not sure what kind of information you'll need from me so request and I will let you know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mark

A:Windows 10 Upgrade - Installation stuck at Lenovo splash screen

I forgot to add:
After it has been onthat screen for a couple of hours I decide to hold the power button down on the laptop to force it to turn off.
After that it restores 8.1 automatically and presents this error:

We couldn't install Windows 10
We've set your PC back to the way it was right before you started installing Windows 10.

0xC1900101 - 0x3000D
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

Other posts in this Forum have stated that antivirus could be the problem and removing it has solved the problem for other users, however, mine is a wipe and return to factory and I have uninstalled that awful McAfee that comes with Lenovo.

Due to specific application, I need a new computer with Windows 7 Pro 32 bit as OS.
Trouble is, practically any new computer I can find has a Windows 7 Pro

I have some questions:

Buying a Win7 Pro 64 bit, can I legally (ie: with the same license key) do a new full install from a Win 7 Pro 32 bit media? Or I need to buy a new license? What about OEM vs retail licenses? Can a 64 bit OEM license be used for a 32 bit installation? What about Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit downgrade? Can I legally (eg: with the same license key) downgrade to Win 7 Pro 32 bit?

Hello,
There are numerous threads with the same issue online, but none of the solutions have worked for me, so I'm posting my own. I did contact Microsoft and Lenovo, but Lenovo is asking for money that I can't afford for tech support, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
Here's the situation:
I have a Lenovo Y510P that came with Windows 8.1. Half a year later, I'm sick of 8.1 and want to downgrade to Windows 7 (I know that simulation softwares like ClassicShell and such exist, but I would really rather just use Windows 7).
I downloaded a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and burned it onto a DVD disk.
I also downloaded all of the Windows 7 device drivers from this Lenovo site: Laptops and netbooks :: IdeaPad Y Series laptops :: IdeaPad Y510p Notebook - Lenovo Support (US)
^I had to specify the model number and OS, so I'm hoping I downloaded the correct drivers (all of the drivers are .exe format, is that what it's supposed to look like?)
I put all of the drivers onto a flash drive.
So, I am now equipped with a DVD with Windows 7 on it as well as a flash drive with all of the drivers on it.
I boot from the disk with the DVD and flash drive attached. Windows 7 installation begins and here I get the error, 'no device drivers found.' When I click 'browse', I see that the flash drive is recognized, but the files on it aren't.
What do you guys think the issue is??
Best,
anon27

A:'No device drivers found' error Windows 8.1 -> Windows 7 downgrade ins

Why would you do all that? Win7 is a driver-complete OS in the installer and via Windows Updates after install. Providing a bunch of drivers is from the XP era.

You only need the wireless driver in your backup so if it isn't provided during reinstall, you can install it to get online, enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3), then run all Important and Optional Windows Updates which should deliver most drivers. I would only import drivers still missing after all rounds of Windows Update are finished.

For a Win8 PC there are special steps that must be taken to disable Secure Boot and enable CSM or Legacy BIOS to Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7. Then when you boot the installer to do the Clean Install Windows 7 delete all partitions using the Drive Options shown in Steps 7 and 8, create and format new as you wish, install to first partition.

Other tips to get and keep a perfect Win7 install are same as for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Hello everyone Im really new to this so here goes.
My wife was having some wierd problems with her e-machine and we decided to restore her computer with her backup CD's (we have done this before with no problems) tonight we went through the process and got to the window start up where you enter the time zone and such, when we get to the <computers name> section where you can place the name or skip the step the pc is just sitting there going no further, I installed a new hard drive and it is doing the same getting stuck in the same place. is the pc just dying or am I doing something wrong.
While ive been waiting for a response from someone ive tried to reinstall windows again and noticed that it is creating an R: drive and putting windows there could this be the problem, if so is there a solution.
