Print Preview not working (select pics/right click to print)

Q: Print Preview not working (select pics/right click to print)

When I select my pics to print, right click to print, the preview box comes up but nothing shows as a preview.

This started when I wiped my operating system clean. It hasn't worked properly since.

Thanks for any help

Preferred Solution: Print Preview not working (select pics/right click to print)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi and welcome to SevenForums!

I don't have a printer installed so I decided to test what happens if I try that myself. Same as you, nothing happens. So maybe your printer isn't recognized or installed properly?!

Here's a page that lists 4 scenarios why it might not work: Unable to print or view the print preview of a webpage in Internet Explorer

Hello to all!

It has been a while since this problem first occurred. Now it has become unbearable. When I try to print, use print preview or enter page setup, Microsoft Word 2003 freezes. The same thing also happens with other Office 2003 programs like Microsoft Excel 2003.

I am not sure if there is a problem with my printer driver (the printer is an HP L2600n by the way) as I have reinstalled it many times AND I have no problem using it as a network printer and can print the same word documents FINE from laptops or other desktop computers in the house. Thus I know that the documents aren't corrupted. I can also print .pdf documents fine from this computer. I think this problem started when my laser printer driver 'disappeared' and when I tried to reinstall it I got a spool-related error. I reinstalled the spool driver and then when I tried to print a .doc file I was unable to do so. The problem may most likely be linked to Office 2003 itself but I have tried options like deleting the data key and renaming the normal.dot template, all which have failed to alleviate the problem.

I think that is all the information I can offer to assist anyone trying to help me with this matter, and I hope that the problem can be fixed without me having to reformat or something like that.

Thank you in advance.

P.S Not sure if this will also come in handy but my OS is Windows XP Professional SP2.

A:Office 2003 freezes when trying to print, use print preview or enter page setup

In Office, On the Help menu there is a 'detect and repair' option. It wouldn't hurt to run that. This could also be a sign that the hard drive is going bad (loosing stuff here and there)...

OK, this one is a twist on a very often reported problem on these forums:

Internet Explorer 11 will not print and just shows an empty print preview page. (Edge works/prints fine).

However in this case I know what caused the issue but not how to resolve it. This issue CANNOT be repaired by the commonly offered 3 or 4 step Microsoft tips that are all over this site and elsewhere (disable protected mode, Low folder permissions, etc, etc,)

Here is the complete story: New laptop HP Z Book 17 with factory installed Windows 10 Pro. All worked great when first run. No issues. I installed Office 2010, Quicken, AutoCAD, Chrome ........ etc. All worked fine.
Then I installed a specialist program, 'Helvar Workshop' - which is a lighting control application that I need for my work and originally written for XP.
After installing the Workshop program it worked fine but I was no longer able to print or preview in IE11. This is not a new issue to me as it also broke the same functions with IE10 and 11 running on Windows 7. I only ever 'resolved the problem then by doing a system restore in Windows 7 and ultimately installing an XP VM to run 'Workshop'. In that configuration it did NOT break the print functions in XP's IE 6 or 7.

Having experienced the problem again on the new Z Book I went to System Restore and discovered that HP had supplied the machine without activating System Restore! Yes, I should have verified it was active before installing any apps ........ but seri... Read more

Friends, I have a report with eight subs. I was trying not to show empty sub, and in subreport also part white.

Resolved, but to place it can shrink and can expand,
for all sections of all subreports also placed time zero for all subreports.
In the event when loading the subreport I repeat this code for each sub:
if Me.Filho0.Report.HasData Then
Me.Filho0.Visible = True
Me.Filho0.Visible = False
end If
In the event if you are not given for each sub I put:
cancel = True
As I open the report it is all empty, but when I print, it prints perfectly, if the sub is no data, shows
and also the sub fully expand.
Only when I open'm not seeing anything.
Thank you.

Help getting & installing a compatable driver for new Photosmart 7520.

Need to have 'Print Preview' in Printer Preferences. Newer Photosmart Printers have very few options under Preferences.

Have tried drivers for Office Jet 6100 & Deskjet 69800 as suggested in HP forums. Neither has 'Print Preview' in Printing Preferences.

My previous Photosmart C310 died, bought the 7520 as a replacement. If I remember correctly, when I upgraded to Windows 7 with the older Photosmart C310 I had to download an alternate driver. That printer worked fine for over 2 years with all the preferences. I failed to note the driver that worked with the C310.

Hope someone can help, or I'll return this one to Costco along with the $130.00 worth of ink.

A:Alternate HP print driver with 'Print Preview' for Photosmart 7520

After a week of frustration, I was able to locate an HP Forum with the information that works.
I used the alternate driver that was from my previous Photosmare C310.
Here is the link. Hope this is helpful for someone in the future.

I have created a document in Excel 2016 with 5 work sheets.
Each worksheet comprises 2 pages.
I want the document to be able to print out as 5 x 2-sided sheets.
The Print Preview appears fine, with 10 pages, and all in the correct sequence.
After completing the document at home, I printed it on a Canon printer and all was fine.
However, at work, using an HP printer, the Print Preview still appears fine, but pages print in wrong sequence; with some printing 2-sided and others single-sided, although the content for each page appears correctly on the printed sheet.
If I save the file as a PDF, the pages are correctly ordered, and print out as 5 x 2-sided sheets as intended.
(OS is Windows 10)
I've created as 5 worksheets to allow flexibility of use with the document... Worksheet 1, for example will only ever need to be saved as a 2-page PDF; sometimes only 2 or 3 of the worksheets need to be printed, and other times all sheets need to be printed.

Is the Excel file somehow retaining some of the printer profile from when it was originally created which is conflicting with a different printer profile? or is there a simpler explanation.

Any help gratefully accepted... I've spent hours trying to solve the problem and wasted hundreds of sheets of paper!

I am running win98se, and have just recovered from a boot-drive crash. I needed to copy everything over to new drive, including all programs, etc. I am starting to see some minor things that aren't quite right. One such problem, is I can't print or print preview in Word 97. Hitting the print or print preview icon does nothing. Going into file, then down to print/print preview does not bring the print window or the print preview window up. nothing happens. any suggestions? by the way, the printer does work-I am able to print thru other apps. Also, I do not have the orig. install cd for this app. thanks.

Many programs will not work if their files are just copied from one system to another. If that's what you did rather than reinstalling from the installation disks, you're likely going to have several problems.

In IE7 my default print size always starts at "shrink to fit" - I have to change to 100% - when I "X" out and come in again it is again "shrint to fit"

Can anyone tell me how to change the default to be "100%" every time I enter print preview?

A:IE7 Print Preview - change print size

I think this is controlled by your printer. From the IE7 FAQ page:
" Why do I have to reset the print options every time I open Internet Explorer?
Printing changes made within Internet Explorer are always temporary. To make changes permanently, you need to change them in Windows. For information about changing Windows print options, see Choosing print options."

I didn't see anything in that link particularly useful though ... and when I tried to simply force my printer to print at 100% through the print driver settings, it would always reset itself to Actual Size. Worth a shot for you perhaps, via Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults > Effects (but that's when using my HP LaserJet 2420 ... will be different depending on make and model of printer, and some printers may not even support this option)

You may need to contact your printer manufacturer if it's bugging you that much, see whether your printer can handle it

I just started using Abiword on my Win-7 system, which was bought used (with problematic Win. installation & failing HDD) Note that the laptop had not come with Wordpad installed, so I researched & downloaded Abiword.

I experimented inserting a picture (which I'd never done before, barring HTML documents. After all, my XP-laptop's Wordpad did not include a photo-inserting feature as far as I know, thus never dabbled at it b4.

So I got a pic. aligned to the left of the page's text (upper left), with text wrapping around it to its right.

It looks fine.

But then, when I tried Print-previewing it, a message displayed:
Abiword has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Basically, preview for Win-Photo and Firefox function OK.
But preview for Abiword is problematic.

I start having this weird problem today. Whenever I try to print something from Internet Explorer, I get a blank page. On the bottom, where the webpage suppose to be writen, I get a line that displays this directory "file://C:\DOCUME~1\Calvin\LOCALS~1\Temp\triXXXXX.htm" (calvin being my name and XXXXX are letters that change everytime). Also when using winrar and I select a file I get this error "! Cannot create folder C:\DOCUME~1\Calvin\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$DI00.060." Since both these problems have the same directory, I am guessing they are related. And the problem with adobe is it always freezes, but I am not sure is it related to these other issues. I am guessing that this is some sort of Trojan, and I have been doing virus checks all day with Norton and Panda Active Scan, but with nothing found. If someone have a related problem or a posible fix please help.

Hey all,

Ive gone to print a bunch of photos, usually print preview pops up, i select the style I want to print out, 1 pic per page, 4 pics per page or wallet size etc etc.

But its completely gone!
My pc is HP Touchsmart 610a, i5, windows 7 ulitmate, about 3yrs old now

Have never had this issue before. I uninstalled my old printer about 3 weeks ago, was a HP photosmart.
And now have a Canon Pixmar MG6460 since then. I have printed plenty on it, but not many photos, but last time, print preview was working like normal

I have a Acer i7 notebook on W8.1, the same Canon printer is set up on the notebook over a shared network & print preview works normal just as it should.

I did a system check via SFC.exe, system file checker tool, my pc came up fine, no issues at all.
I managed to find & make sure that the box for 'show print preview' was checked, but after checking the box, preview still is a no go

anyother issue im having is with windows help... i click the Question mark & get this error, every single time....

I found a fix for it via a microsoft, but that supposed fix did nothing.

any have idea ideas or dealt with either of these issues?

Hi harin35,

Issue could be that the protected mode is enabled for the Internet security zone of the web page.

Try printing a webpage after disabling Protected Mode, to do this, follow these steps:

Click the Tools icon in Internet Explorer
Click the Security tab and uncheck the checkbox beside Enable Protected Mode (requires restarting Internet Explorer)
Click Apply , and then click OK.
Close all open Internet Explorer windows, and then restart Internet Explorer.
Browse to a website and try test printing a page while running as the Administrator.

It may be something to do with your printer settings, and you may need to post the make and model of your printer to get some help.

In the meantime as a temporary work-around, and assuming you haven't run out of colourerd ink, the only thing I can suggest, is to try highlighting, then copy and paste to a word-processing programme, and print from there.

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

When I preview an OE e-mail attachment (e.g. a document) by simply clicking on the attachment, then click on the printer icon to print it, it appears with several other pictures (.jpg's). I'm not sure where they're coming from. I've tried searching for those file names on the C: drive, but XP tells me it can't find any such files. The only time I see these pictures is when I try to print directly from the preview screen (the print wizard). I guess I wouldn't care, except that some of them appear to be banners from porn sites. At first, I thought they were coming in with the document I was trying to print. Then, I sent myself an e-mail with a picture attached. When I previewed that picture and tried to print it, the same bogus pictures appeared. They could be hung up from a prior virus problem. How do I get rid of them?

Is there a way to avoid this minimizing and just skip to how it'll look by the page setup conditions already set? When I'm working and printing multiple spreadsheets, it can get time consuming messing with page setup multiple times.

It looks like this only happens when printing a selection. It doesn't happen when printing a whole sheet.

Hi, this has got me confused. I create a image in Photoshop, resize for a 8X11 print, then save it as a jpeg. If I open it in Paint, and do a "print preview" the image is huge, split into two pages. So I'm afraid to email the image, fearing it will be too big to print on one page. Why is this? I even check the image properties again in Photoshop, and they confirm 8X11 print size, (but NOT in Paint, it says its much larger) I don't get it."

A:PAINT print preview too big

It depends on the resolution you are using on your video card when you create the image. Try saving it by pixel size, not page size and save it at 640x480 and see how it looks. If you are worried about file size when emailing it, save it in a compressable file format like .jpg

Some website don't allow printing of their pages or specific pages for copy write reasons. Also certain multimedia content (videos, slide shows, Adobe Flash) wont print or preview. You can sometimes right click on those types and click print.

I'm thinking your print preview is working as advertised but your hitting limitations made by the website. You can book mark the web page and save some trees. Or use the Snipping Tool (in Accessories) to capture the image, save and open with a photo viewer, and print from that application or the old Alt+PrintScreen and paste to word method if a hard copy is required.

I create Photoshop images on A4 paper.
The created image looks perfectly placed in the program, but when I go to print, the full A4 size is not displayed in the preview pane, the bottom is missing. ( the actual bottom of the preview pane, not just the image.)

If I print this image after unticking the 'centre image' option, the image is placed at the very top of the sheet of A4 paper ignoring the top margin. (I can still see the margin in the print preview)

If I print this image without unticking the 'centre image' option, I get a VERY small image in the top left hand corner of my sheet of A4.

The only way I can print the image correctly is to untick the 'centre image' option, & drag the image down in the preview pane, guessing at what height on the paper it will be printed.

I am using Windows Vista sp1 64 bit, & a HP Laserjet 1022nw printer.
All my drivers/ windows/ Photoshop are up to date with all patches & updates.

Has anyone any idea why this is happening & how to fix it?

Thanks for any replies

After upgrading Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro I can't print. I get no print preview window and I get an error msg that Windows can't find my selected printer (even though I haven't picked one since I don't have a preview screen). I have updated drivers and reinstalled my printer. Firefox 44.0.2. Help, please.

Additionally, in Chrome I will get a preview window but there is no connection to my printer.

What was the page programmed at, 1024x768 or larger? Is the page using tables? When viewing the page in your browser does it run off the page to the right?

Good afternoon all.
I'm having a problem printing select pages within a word document.
We're using Office 2013, on Win7Pro.
I have a 40 page document, and the last 20 pages are all images--- none of which I need for this part of my work.
I only need ten pages, from the middle of the document.
I've tried printing several times, and it's not happening. I went and got our IT mgr, and he wasn't able to get it either. So, we finally printed the whole document.

I just spoke with our Doc. Control person, and she's never heard of this either, and has never had this problem.

While the company doesn't appear to be bothered wasting paper, it seems odd that this is happening, because I'd never had it happen before. I've always been able to print any range of pages within a document.

As this is a facility where we regularly have documents upwards of 200-400 pages, having this issue is not a productive one. Does anyone have any ideas?

Overview: My print preview colour does not match the original image colour.

This has been true since buying this Toshiba with Windows 8 preinstalled. Prior to Win 8 I had a machine with Win 7, and used Spyder4express, and SpyderPRINT for my colour management with no issues. I've recently installed and calibrated my Win 8 machine to try to fix the fact that all prints are off colour and cold, and to maybe fix that in print preview, the print won't match the saved image. Calibrating hasn't helped. Btw, my print matches the preview, but I want it to match the saved file that I've worked on.

I hope you understand my problem. Here's a screenshot, the smaller image should be the same as the larger image in the background! Whether I try to print from Photoshop, Word, Lightroom, Photo Viewer, or Windows Explorer, the colour never matches the saved image. How do I fix this?

I'm trying to help a friend for whom the Print Preview feature in MS Word has suddenly started displaying the preview at 25% scale -- much too small. The normal default scale should be something that displays the entire page at a scale that fills the monitor. On my computer the default scale is 70%. She has no idea how hers became changed, but it happens now every time and with every document.

The scale can be changed by keying in a different number in the Zoom option on the tool bar, but that does not then get set as a default and needs to be repeated each time the Print Preview feature is used.

Any ideas?

Is there a way in Publisher 2007 to select what pages (sheets) one wants to print from say a 3 sheet folded booklet which would have page numbers of 1-12.

When I was using WordPro years ago to print a booklet and was interrupted after printing all the first sides, it was easy to start again and select only the backs of the pages to be printed. I cannot see a way to select only the backs of pages to be printed in Publisher - asking it to print only certain page numbers does not work. In WordPro I think when one clicked on Print Preview it was a Printer window that came up not the application window.
