Enable/Disable Airplane Mode with CMD or shortcut?

Q: Enable/Disable Airplane Mode with CMD or shortcut?

Anyone out there knows if it's possible to enable/disable (turn on/turn off) Airplane Mode either using CMD or with two separated shortcuts (i.e. desktop shortcut 1 enables Airplane Mode, desktop shortcut 2 disables Airplane Mode)?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello TheRene,

I'm not aware of a way to toggle this with a shortcut, but you might see if using the "Networks" shortcut below may help make it easier to turn airplane mode on/off from the Start screen or where you like.

Hello Vinscuzzy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could create a shortcut using the location below to open directly to Airplane Mode in PC settings. You can then use whatever icon you like with the shortcut.

Code:
explorer.exe %localappdata%\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Indexed\Settings\en-US\AAA_SettingsPageNetworkAirplaneMode.settingcontent-ms

Fortunately I haven't visited here in a while! (this is the closest smiley to tongue-in-cheek!)

Here goes......
I'm running Windows 8.1.1 on a Dell Inspiron 15 (3000 series) laptop.

I wanted to take a screenshot and I'm almost sure I pressed "Ctrl" when my cat FLEW onto my laptop. The next thing I knew I was in Airplane Mode (maybe that was Nalah's ulterior motive!). I tried 13 different remedies I found on MS support, Google, etc. but to no avail. What I did learn from the non-MS advice was that this problem is one that MS itself does not know how to fix. Still, having gone without sleep for two days and needing to meet an urgent deadline on a project, I contacted MS support. I admit that I need to have my head examined for spending 9 hours (yes, 9!!!!!) - one of which was spent running a diagnostic that found an error but not one that is connected to Airplane Mode. At that point, the battery on my phone died and I lost the call and spent the next 45 minutes trying to call back. After 9 hours on the phone/chat with them, I was told that if I pay $129 (for a year), one of their senior technicians could assist me. That's when I decided I'd rather pay you!

That being said, the main problem is that I cannot move the slide that turns off Airplane Mode. Obviously, the problem is deeper than just that.

Having a brainstorm (which is a big thing since I'm not very computer savvy), I plugged my laptop directly into the router/modem and, lo and behold, I was a... Read more

Hi, I have a few T480's and unfortunately I don't have a backlit keyboard on any of them. I've purchased them from America but have not installed them, I want to get someone professional to do it so my 5yr warranty isn't voided. I work with FN lock switched on. Anyway, at least once a week while I'm working in the dark, when I'm switching my display output or adjusting brightness, or when I need to get to Windows Settings, I inadvertantly hit the airplane mode button. This has been really inconvenient especially during a large file download or during a conference call for example. Is there a way to disable this button? I can't find any reference to it in Vantage or the BIOS. When Windows was first setting up, I remember seeing a 'driver' for airplane mode being installed, but I can't find any reference to that in Device Manager either. Any ideas? If this isn't possible then I would like to suggest this feature for a future BIOS update across all models please.

I am using an HP laptop with Windows 8.

My problem: I am looking for a way to disable the wifi (airplane mode) button. I am NOT looking for a way to disable wifi or airplane mode, but the actual button that controls airplane mode.

Why?: I never use the airplane mode button (because it is useless), and because Windows thinks its funny to make me go to Charms/Settings/Change PC Settings in order to simply re-enable my wifi after accidentally hitting the airplane mode button (why do they? Who knows.). The reason I keep accidentally hitting the airplane mode button is because I use a mousepad on top of my keyboard while playing games (which frequently hits the airplane mode button). If I cannot find out how to disable the button, then I will simply rip the physical key out of my keyboard (since Windows can't find a better way to solve MINOR issues like these) as a means to stop accidentally hitting the key.

How can I simply disable the button's use?

Thank you,

-Miles

A:How to disable airplane mode *button* in Windows 8?

The only Airplane buttons in Windows 8 that I have found are the one in Settings and the one you get to via the Network icon in the Notification Area. Are you talking about the latter one? Theoretically that is a toggle that will then turn Airplane Mode back off (i.e., turn the Wi-Fi back on).

On my Lenovo I can also toggle it via the Fn + F5 key combination, but of course that is not part of Windows.

The keyboard of my laptop was broken so I cannot use "Fn" key to switch on the laptop's wifi adapter.
I am sure airplane mode has turn off my wifi because there is no light.
I tried to use "fn" of osk but that didn't help..
The last time also happened to me last year, but that time my keyboard still functioning so I able to solve that problem.
But now my keyboard not working, is there any shortcut/application/bat/vbs method to turn on without using keyboard?

Hi,
is there a possibility to create shortcut (hotkey or another fast method) to disable and enable device (like in device manager)?
If not for all device, is it possible for built-in cam and/or microphone?
(preferred not by 3rd party aplications)

A:Shortcut to enable & disable device

There's not specifically an easy way without a bit of scripting on your part. I attempted to write you a quick VBScript that would use the WMI_SystemDriver class to enumerate all devices that contained the word "camera" in the description and then stop them.

The problem is, my Lenovo webcam doesn't allow that call; the driver exposes itself to the OS as 'unstoppable' in terms of user service control. I have a suspicion that a lot of webcams may work the same way. To get around this, you need to make a DLL call to tell the OS to disable the hardware device, which cannot be done in VBScript.

I could certainly write you such an applet, but then you'd have to simply trust me rather than being able to see what was inside - unless you have access to a C# compiler and just want the source code to compile yourself.

Another alternative that requires a lot of download time but then would allow you to use a simple DOS command to do the toggle is to grab the Windows 7 DDK from Microsoft. Part of the DDK is a utility called Devcon, which is a command-line version of WIndows device manager. A little bit of DOS wizardry with the FOR /F "usebackq..." command to parse a devcon status statement followed by another devcon enable or disable statement would allow you to toggle the hardware state and would get you where you want to be. But it's a huge download for a single stupid file, unless of course you already had use for the WinDDK.

Hello,

hopefully this is right subforum to start this thread
I've googled on how to quickly and easily enable/disable single Windows Firewall rule without having to open the firewall, going into advanced options, and eventually manually finding my rule there.
Best I've found was two commands when searching for 'shortcut':

run, netsh advfirewall firewall set rule name="NameOfFirewallRule" new enable=yes

and

run, netsh advfirewall firewall set rule name="NameOfFirewallRule" new enable=no

Firstly, I don't know how to use them (how do I create shortcut containing the above lines) or if they work at all.
Then, perhaps there is an easier way to quickly disable/enable single rule in Windows 7 firewall?

I did search the Tutorials section here, but only found how to make shortcut for whole Windows Firewall, which is not what I'm after

A:How to create shortcut for Windows Firewall rule (enable/disable)?

I use a program called Windows Firewall Control, which is not a standalone program, rather it gives the Windows 7 platform an easy to use advanced GUI to control rules and edit them as you see fit. Here is the link : Windows Firewall Control

Bless as I do not even know if this is possible but any help would be apreciated:

I noticed that my PS3 plays games allot better online when my PC's wireless adapter is disabled and it cannot connect to the network.

However my PC is always on and it a task to do this every time I want to play online and then re enable once I'm done playing to resume my PC's downloads.

If I can create a desktop short cut to disable/enable wireless adapter, and link it to a hotkey on my keyboard my life would be almost hassle free.

any form of command line (i think) or .exe or shortcut or anything would help.

Much thanks

A:possibility of a wireless adapter enable/disable via a desktop shortcut

Go to start/control panel/network connections.
Right click the wireless connection and click

It may say cannot create shortcut here,do you want to
place it on the desktop.
Click yes.
If it doesn't say that, drag the shortcut to the desktop.
Then, when you want to disable it,right click the shortcut

Same to reenable.

Hi: It is best if you can, but you cannot until you install the SATA ACHI driver. If you have an Intel processor, I can help you do that.  If you have an AMD processor, I can't because I don't know how. If you have a notebook with an Intel processor, please post your full notebook model. It isn't really a big deal if you can't change the setting back. You'll hardly notice any difference. It is just that ACHI mode allows the hard drive to perform more efficiently for lack of a better word. See this article for more info. http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-ahci-and-ide/ Paul

A:Disable Secure Boot and enable legacy mode

@Siemen,Did you system originally have WIN 7, as listed here?   If so, the BIOS is correct at rev 7.  You can not  use the newer UEFI graphic cards because there is NO update BIOS available.  Your correct, you do not have a way to disable secure boot and enable legacy. In another post you asked, and got no answer.Yes, the GTX 660 will work, with an adequate new PSU.  Recommend EVGA GTX 600 and Corsair CX600 PSU.  On the GTX 750Ti inquiry, only chance would be the Hybrid vBIOS cards.  PSW<> The GTX 670's are a tad touchy.

My daughter has a Dell laptop with Win 8.1 this has been broken many times and she's returned it (she bought a 2 year warranty which is good) it's needed the harddrive replaced at least twice. That's not the problem, but the last 2 times it came back from being fixed, it's been in AIRPLANE MODE. this happened the last time it came back from getting fixed, and I googled it and she tried various things, even taking the battery out and waiting and putting it back in. My Acer ES1-521 has had a p rpoblem for the past week.  Wifi does not work because airplane mode is turned on and it can't turn off.  It is running Windows 10.  I've tried:1. turning it off using control panel / network & internet / airplane mode / switch off.  (The switch keeps moving back to the 'on' position)2. Pressing "Fn" and "F3" (which has the antenna wifi symbol) simultaneously.3. Looking for a manual wifi switch which is sometimes on laptops - but this laptop does not have one. I'm out of ideas!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a USB cable going to a UPS battery backup? If you do, unplug it.Try he fixes here:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/windows-10-airplane-mode-wont... If that doesn't work, try unpluging that laptop, turn it over and find the tiny pin hole for resetting the battery, press gently into the hole with a paperclip  until you feel a faint click and hold it for 5 seconds.

Hello rdwilbanks, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check to see if your laptop may have a switch or button on it that toggles airplane mode on/off with. This switch could override the setting in Windows.

Hello, I am having annoying problems with the Lenovo Airplane mode - this is the mode which other users have complained about - it prevents the battery from charging without any obvious notification that it has done this. I have disabled Airplane Mode AND Auto Detection in the Lenovo companion. However it is still randomly turning itself back on and stopping the battery from charging. Is there any way I can turn this of permantly?
