Epson Artisan 710 Printer - Damp Paper or Dry Paper Under CISS Conditions?

Q: Epson Artisan 710 Printer - Damp Paper or Dry Paper Under CISS Conditions?

Reading up on it, I found that this printer has an auto-duplex feature, which lead me to the question:

How damp is the paper going to be after printing duplex, especially if I print with 50% - 100% coverage?

My initial conjecture is that it wouldn't be wet or curled, as it would be counterproductive to Epson's image to provide a printer with an auto-duplex feature that would drench the paper.

After doing a little bit of research, it seems that it's largely going to depend on the ink itself. According to macworld.com, "pigment inks...are made up of tiny, encapsulated particles that sit on top of the paper, instead of being absorbed into a paper’s fibers, which is what happens with dyes." The article further goes on to state that pigment inks are primarily for the purpose of longevity. Well, I'm not particularly concerned about it's longevity but I am interested in whether it's ability to dry faster than dye ink is justifiable for an investment in pigment inks?

A little more research revealed that paper quality is also a major factor (duh). Only issue is, I've already purchased a bunch of cheap 20 lb, 96 bright white paper and don't want to purchase paper separately for this additional printer (when I mean "bunch", I mean that I possess cases of paper in the double digits). Another reason I'm hesitant to make any move towards better paper is that it seems that the higher quality paper is designed to control the ink dots from feathering; yes, I realize this would, by extension, help with the overall drying but it's main purpose is for better image quality, which I really don't care for.

Now here's the caveat that's really got me pinched: I'm going to purchase this printer as a CISS-Bundle (Continuous Ink Supply System). It's on printonadime.com, here's the URL: http://www.printonadime.com/inventory/item.php?item_id=236.

I've checked out the pricing for the dye based inks and did a cost per page analysis, integrating the price of the printer, the cost of a second printer (just in case the first one is beyond my ability to repair it) and a "margin of error" cost; I still came up better on cost per page VS OEM cartridges. The thing is, I'm not entirely confident that their "scientifically formulated" dye-based inks will emulate Epson's ink dry time, at least, not entirely. I haven't bothered to put the time into getting the cost per page for using the pigment-based inks but I don't imagine those coming up to par on OEM inks, albeit the performance advantage over its dye-based counterparts would not be in question.

In light of all that was considered, I've come to these questions (and the compromises underlying these questions):

1) Has anybody purchased this CISS-bundle from printonadime.com?
2) If so, how is the print quality in:
a. Dry time?
b. Image quality?
c. Paper manipulation (curling, bending, warping due to wet ink)?
d. All of the above, plus duplex printing?

If nobody here has touched this CISS, does anybody have experience with a comparable CISS (please answer, even if it's a different Epson printer, as all Epson printers use piezoelectric technology)?

If we are in lack of individuals possessing experience with a comparable system, then that leads me to this compromise:
For those individuals possessing an Epson Artisan 710, what is the quality of a duplex page with 10% - 30% coverage?

Thanks in advance

his printer is very slow but is great as I do not do a lot of printing however it suddenly showed a paper jam. I carefully removed the offending page ant it appeared to be all in one piece however every time I have tried printing since it shows paper jam I do not know how to get at the rollers to see if I can clean them or if there is something in there jamming it. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks BOBBYSGirl.

I have a REALLY bad paper jam... My printer is MF4350d. The paper jam troubleshooting outlined in the manual did not help. When I opened up the toner area and the back end of the printer, I can't see see the paper at all. It looks like the paper is jammed in area that I don't know how to access to (if I can, aside from taking the whole printer apart).

Does anyone know any way to fix this problem? :/ The paper that got stuck was a label paper. I know for sure it is stuck because the paper did not come out at all. The WHOLE paper got stuck. The label paper half half label peeled off. I am assuming that the reason it might have curled up in the printer is due to the disappearance of that half label? :/

The label paper is a regular size paper with 2 labels divided evenly on the paper.

Is taking the printer apart the only way? (is that even safe/good to do on my own part?)

Please help thank you very much.

Every time I try to print anything, my WF-2530 feeds a sheet through and reports paper out. The unit has seen little use and has never had a paper jam. I have carefully loaded only a few sheets of regular 20 lb paper and it does it every time. I have done the same with some Kodak photo paper for inkjet and gotten the same results. It simply does not detect that there is paper loaded.

I have tried resetting the unit, powering off then on, disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord. Nothing causes it to recognize that paper is loaded after it feeds the first sheet through. Press the 'OK' button and it will feed another sheet and continue to report 'paper out'.

I don't want to replace such a lightly used printer. If I can correct whatever is wrong with the paper sensor it would be a blessing. Help!

I relize that this is a hardware problem, and I will also post it under hardware as well. I thought that someone in this catagory might have encountered this problem as well. Here goes, I purchased this printer about 2 years ago, so of course it is out of waranty! I have contacted Epson and got blah blah, the same obvious thing that is in the manual. Here finally, is my problem. the printer started kicking out a blank page between printed pages every so often, then it started kicking out 2 blank pages and stoping with the maintenence light on. I would check the paper and find nothing wrong, I would push the maintenence button and the printing would proceed. Now I have reached the point where a printed page is the exception and a paper jam is the norm. there is no paper jam! just the light coming on. what I see happening is that the paper as it starts to feed, stops just short of where the printer head would start to print. I have checked the rollers and cleaned them to no avail. I know I can go buy a new printer, but it just frost's me to have to replace a printer thats less then 2 years old! Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time! Rick

Hello all,

REALLY hope someone can help.
The RX620 is the ONLY printer scanner that I know of that can scan large, clear images from 35mm slides. I NEED NED NEED that; which is why I searched high and low to get this printer.
***OK***
I just set up this RX620 (as/per instructions: NOT hooked to computer yet). Therefor the fact that I have a brand new iMac ... 3.06 GHz Intel Core Pro Duo ... OSX 10.6.4 has nothing to do with my problem. I am asked to supply that info here though.

IMMEDIATELY, upon turning on printer and running (as/per instructions) some paper through, it began grabbing and mis-feeding paper (1 sheet at a time from my 4 0r 5 sheets in the tray). It pulled paper at an angle, sending it through crumpled. MIS-FEED.

I cleared that, checked tray and paper situation - all looked good. tried again; same results.
NOW (after 4 or 5 more attempts ...w/ and w/out the COLOR button trick ...and then the B&W + STOP buttons RESET trick, I get: BAD SQUEAL NOISE at start and "Printer Error occurred - Please see documentation" in window of printer. NOTHING in documentation addresses a fix for this. NOTHING I can think to do gets me beyond this point.

btw:
*Yes, ink cartridges correctly inserted, moved back in correct position; unit completely closed. NO paper or pieces of paper remain inside printer feed area.etc. etc.
I have used another RX620 OFTEN at brother's computer. I KNOW the basics.

I think this is similar to the thread
HP 2575 Printer Paper Jam Error w/no paper jam
I was trying to print 2 sheets double sided (manually).
Side 1 printed, I reoriented the sheet, pressed OK, then the paper jammed.
I removed the jammed paper, which tore during removal
I tried to reprint the two sheets, and printed side one, then got a papre jam message before the reoriented paper was taken up!
I have tried powering off and disconnecting the printer, and now have a "permanent" paper jam message.
Can anyone tell me where the sensors are on this model? I suspect "chad" (yes, I really am old enough to know the problems chad can cause).
Unfortunately, I'm also partially sighted, so I need pretty clear instructions on where to look forthe chad.
Can anyone help please?

Just updated the drivers on my Epson Artisan 700. When I use Photoshop CS3 and print it works fine, however, without changing any settings, if i print to a paper that is thicker, the printer acts like it is printing, but when it comes out, nothing is on it. After printing about 10 times last night, I got only 2 that came out with anything. However, everytime I put in regular paper, it prints fine. Any ideas?

I have an epson 777 printer that isn't operating properly. A few months ago my daughter was printing out a paper when there was a paper jam. instead of pulling the paper through the printer she paniced and tried to pull the paper out from the back side of the printer. Every since then when I try to print it gives me an error that says that the paper isn't loaded correctly. After pusing the maintanance button it gives me the same error. Can I do any thing to correct the problem? Or will I have to buy a new printer?

A:epson 777 paper jam

Hi there
Try taking out all of the paper out from the feed tray and opening up its lid, just like when you're changing cartriges and look around inside. Most likely there is a piece of paper stuck in between rollers inside. If you do find paper stuck inside, try pulling gently on it from the front. If you cant grasp it, you can use pair of tweezers or something but make sure not to jam it into anything...

Good luck, hope this helps...

We have used this printer steadily for about 18 months, but lately a couple of problems have come up. Whenever I try to print a photo or simply copy something using the built in scanner, the LCD displays a message that says: "E-04 Paper Jam", eventhough there is no paper jam. I should note that it still prints fine for other things, like documents, etc.

Any ideas? The people at Epson said it needs to be repaired, but I was hoping there was some other solution.

Thanks.

I've suddenly begun noticing that Epson enhanced Matte paper is printing very blotchy; apparently a gloss problem. No, I'm not using photoblack ink. I'm printing duotones and 7-color black and whites(RGB Matte Black) on a 2200. I think Epson is having problems with coating. Problem does not occur on other papers, such as somerset or Hanemuhle. Any ideas, anyone? Mac OS 10.3.9, G4.

I use the Epson 2200 and the Enhanced Matte paper all the time. I have never had a problem. I think I remember one specific sheet that printed poorly (blotchy).
You may have a bad batch. I just bought a new box about 2 weeks ago and the sheets are printing very well as usual. You may want to take the box back.

My XP-247 printer has a history of inconsistent printing, especially on anything thicker than standard copy paper. Today, it's back to its old tricks; prints on matt photo paper but refused afterwards to repeat the operation.
Paper goes in but straight out without a mark, usually ejecting two sheets even though only one was called for.
Returning to paper - it's fine.
Anything else won't work.

This problem is not in the troubleshooting menu - although it really ought to be.

Back again. *sighs*

I've got a tough one for you this time. Well, maybe.

I need to create a custom paper size for an Epson LQ-590 dotmatrix printer. Currently running Windows XP Pro, and got the latest printer driver from Epson today.

I've gone into the "Printers and Fax" window, opened the "Server Properties" window in the "File" drop down menu. In the "Forms" tab, I've created and saved the paper size I need.

I go back to the "Properties" for my Epson, get to the "advanced printing preferences" and open the dropdown menu for paper size....and my form is not there.

What the heck am I doing wrong? This is the same procedure I used for my previous printer (OkiData Microline) and everything was cool.

I suddenly don't like Epson.

I have a win 7 laptop with wireless connection to Epson workforce 840 which has worked perfectly until yesterday. I was trying to copy some documents and got an error message: "ADF paper jam."
I followed all the steps in my manual for clearing a paper jam--I found no paper stuck anywhere in the machine. After trying to get the documents to feed, I realized that the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) was not "grabbing" the documents and rolling them through the machine for making the copies. I cannot find any obstructions; the rollers seem to be working. I tried several different types of documents to see if that made a difference. Each time I get the same error message.

My only thought at this point is that the ADF is broken but I'm wondering if it is fixable.
Any ideas?

I have an Epson WF 4740 printer. Haven't had it very long!

I had a paper jam which I easily cleared from the back of the printer. But the jam won't go away. I tried unplugging it from the back, I took out the paper trays to make sure I wasn't missing anything, I lifted up the rollers on the back of the printer. I wanted to try taking out the print cartridges but they are all the way over to the left on the machine and I can't take the cartridges out unless it is centered. Not sure this is the problem anyways.

I tried watching a youtube video, but I couldn't find one for the 4740 and the one I did watch had some things that didn't look like it could be done on my printer.

Does anyone have any earthly idea of what I can do? I have looked and looked and I don't see anymore paper jam.

Or a good do it yourself video for this printer.

I'm wondering if I uninstalled then reinstalled the printer, maybe that would work??

I'm trying to fix my mom's Epson Stylus CX5800F all-in-one. She got it about three weeks ago, and until today it was working just fine.

When it starts to print, it grabs the paper and pulls it in crookedly, and then the paper stops moving. The printer thinks it has paper, you can hear it printing, and there are no error messages. The paper doesn't seem to be getting past the first set of rollers. All the cables are fine, all the software is fine, the paper thickness is set correctly, and the paper is loaded correctly. She did hear it make a odd noise just before the problem started.

I'm pretty sure it's a mechanical problem. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I did go through Epson's online help and the manual that came with it the printer and there was nothing useful. I have emailed their tech support, but I'm not expecting any real help from them, I almost never get helpful information that way. It's past the fourteen days she has to return an item to the store(Staples). It should still be under warrenty with Epson, but it would be simpler if I could fix it myself. Or is this something where it will have to be sent in to repaired or be replaced?

A:Epson Stylus CX5800F paper feeding problem

Good Afternoon ivanova, you would appreciate the way in which the paper is gripped by a roller when a "ledge" moves in proximity to it.
Normally the paper should progress uniformly into the thing and is initially held reasonably straight by the width containment movable tab on the side of the paper chute.

If the paper does not feed correctly and the tab is set appropriately there are a few things to check.
1. ensure the paper is properly dry and of proper type.
2. always fan the sheets to ensure there is no stiction between sheets whenever you load.
3. Inspect the paper chute is clear and has no obvious apparent impediment or mis-alignment, including any evidence of previous material that should not be present.

That is about as far as you can go, arrange warranty maintenance.

qldit.

Whenever I try to print to my HP DeskJet 690 Series printer, it tells me it is out of paper. If I turn off the printer and turn it on again the printer then prints the page. There is plenty of paper so why?? I have tried reinstalling the drivers. Any Ideas??

Each time I turn on my printer (an HP Laserjet 5L), it prints one or two little letters in the upper left corner of the first page, typically an umlaut U and an accented e. This wastes a page. Over time, these wasted pages really add up. Does anyone know what is causing this, and how to prevent it? Thank you.

Brother DCP-L2540DW printer is not moving the paper thru correctly. It is printing about 3 " below the top of the page. I thought maybe the rollers that push the paper thru weren't working on time. I have looked in the manual for trouble shooting, in the paper draw for correct position of paper, checked the rollers to see if they are stuck. Pulling my hair out here, hope somebody can help. Thank You!!

Cannot connect with HP support in any way--On a Deskjet 970, how can I modify the paper size to 8X10? Or can I?--In properties I can go to user defined size, no way I can see to define it. Moving the paper "sliders" doewn't help. Am I missing something??

A:HP printer paper size

Barlen,
Go to Start, Settings, Printer, right click on the Deskjet 970 and Click on Properties. Click on the "Setup Tab" then click on the arrow next to "Paper Size". Go to the bottom and click on "User Defined Paper Size". A window will pop-up where you can then type in the paper size you want to print too, click "OK" then "Apply" and it should print that size.
If you don't have a window pop-up after clicking on "User Define Paper Size", you may have to download a new driver from HP at http://www.hp.com/cposupport/eschome.html

I have an HP Deskjet 5610v All-in-one and I have lost the disk that came with the printer but I have gone and downloaded the drivers several times. I was doing this all on windows xp and made sure that I had the right driver download, I then went through the same steps with my computer that has windows 2000 and it works just fine. I need to figure out how to diagnose my problem or find out what to do to fix this situation.

A:Solved: Help! Printer paper due soon!

I don't understand by your title what problem you're having.

The HP site doesn't list a 5610v. Are you sure of the model number?

I have an Epson stylus SX435W.
A warning that paper is jammed keeps showing when machine is switched on. There's no paper loaded and none showing in the machine.
Does someone have a solution please ?
I'm running windows 7 and the printer is wired.
Thanks

A:Solved: printer paper jam

One trick I've used successfully in the past was to force thick paper (like a manilla folder) through the printer in order to clear the paper path.

It tries to pick up paper but after about 5 seconds of trying to pick up
paper the "out of paper" message appears. Always.

We cleaned the roller several times.
We turned printer off and on by unplugging it.
