My computer turns off immediately when Battery 2 reaches 0%, even if Battery 1 is 100%

Q: My computer turns off immediately when Battery 2 reaches 0%, even if Battery 1 is 100%

Hi, There seems to be a problem with the power management on my T570. I have two batteries, and I think the main one to be used is the battery 2. Sometimes, I'll be working unplugged, and my computer randomly turns off. Not the usual "Windows turning off" sequence, but an immediate blackout with no feedback. When I turn the computer back on, I see that Battery 2 is at 0% and Battery 1 is now in use. It does seem to be a problem in the power management, no? Thank you,Fred

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like power management or battery reporting status wrong. Are you still under warranty? If yes, call support first. Can you get (borrow) another battery to try?

Hey there,
I've been using my upgraded Inpiron 17R SE happily for a couple of years by now. I've even gone as far as buying an 128GB SSD to futureproof it. This is the only drive - besides the DVD drive - currently present in the laptop. However I've had an issue for quite a while:
Whenever I try to boot the Laptop only using the Battery (even fully charged) it Posts then loads Windows and turns of just before the Login-Screen (I can't see it). When I proceed to turn it back on, it Posts then beeps and says that there is a Real Time Clock Error and gives me the option to proceed booting or to enter Setup.
This however doesn't occur when using the Power-Brick. Moreover it isn't always the case. Sometimes the Laptop boots and works fine just using the battery, but then upon opening a Programm (while under battery-power) it shuts of and gives the same error message again. If it decides to work the battery still lasts for 2-2.5 hours.
I'm really confused to what the problem is. It could be a power delivery problem, but it's still the original battery and laptop with only the HDD changed to a SSD.
I'm aware of it being a rather old machine, but selling it is my only hope for getting a new laptop for college, but I can't sell it in this state.
I'm at a lost and really really sad because of this issue. I'm sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm a non native english speaker.

Hello All,

Recently I have been having trouble with my laptop (Vizio CN15). For some odd reason, whenever my laptop
reaches 100% charge on the battery, its shuts off the display and basically behaves like the computer has shut down. The power light remains on and i can hear the fans running but any attempts to adjust brightness or put the laptop to sleep fail. This started happening out of nowhere, so I am a little confused as to what this is.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you

Hi, My battery seems to hold a charge very well. However, the problem is when I try to move my laptop on battery power; it suddnely turns off. It also shuts down when jostled or bumped. The battery is great when the laptop is stationary. I noticed this problem when I move from one class to another: The Aspire V works great during class, but the moment I shut it and put it in my backpack it shurts down and I need to reboot it for the next class. The laptop is great when it is plugged in. This seems like a hardware issue but I don't know what to do. Thanks for your help!

Yesterday, I spilled a little bit of coffee on my laptop. It got on a few keys but not a lot at all. It worked fine, then I didn't use it for a few hours. Went to go do some school work and it wouldn't turn on and hasn't turn on since. When the charger is plugged in, the light comes on and it charges but no other lights come on and the computer won't turn on. I tried a hard reset but that didn't work. I really don't want to lose everything on my computer, I need it for my classes. I took it to my colleges tech department and they cleaned it and said there didn't seem to be water damage to the motherboard so i'm not sure if he just missed it or if something else is the problem. Hello, I have a XPS 9550 laptop that have almost a year of life. In the recent weeks the battery when arrive at 20% of charge suddently drop to 5% without a good reason (during play a mp4 or during write with MS Word for example, CPU is costant and there are no heavy operation).
The diagnostic test is passed (with elapsed time of 00:00:00 in report, is it normal?) and the battery health is at 88%, it have only 33 charge cycles because, when I can, I usually use the laptop with the charger.
I've writed at Dell Suppot (I have the premium warrantly for another two weeks), I sent the requested screen of the battery informations from the bios and executed the istructions, the answer was that battery is ok and all is normal (in this screen the bios report that battery status is "Excellent").
This is a graph of the battery report generated from Windows when you can see the last drop from almost 20% to 6% (is also reported that design capacity is 84 mWh and full charge capacity is 74 mWh):

Isn't it a symptom that some sectors of my battery is damaged?
Anyone had a similar problem? There are something that I can do?
The last thing that I can try is a Battery Calibration but not have precise information of the procedure for my laptop and it seems a bit risky.

This is a bizarre problem I think.  My Lenovo P50 laptop will charge when turned off and plugged in.  But when I turn it on, it's running just off battery and therefore discharges rather rapidly (1-2 hours).  It does NOT say "Plugged in but not charging". It just shows that it's running off battery.  Additionally, there is no light on where plug goes in.  If I power down, sure enough light comes on and if I leave it for a few hours and boot up, it's back to 100%.  But then of course, it slowly discharges.   What the heck is going on? Thanks,Dave

Check to make sure your laptop is not in Airplane mode, because that would cause that behavior.     Check in two places, one under Windows 10's Action center (Icon to the right of Time in taskbar) and using Lenovo Vantage.     It could also be set in Lenovo Settings if you have that installed as well.  Lenovo Vantagehttps://vantage.lenovo.com/  Edit:    would uncheck "Enable auto detection" as well. Cheers,

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

I was just wondering is it just me or you guys have the same situation going on with your batteries? Is there a way to change the order back to "normal"? .

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry  but see below post.  Basically you cant set discharge order.  The laptop checks battery wear and bases discharge order on that.  Many people including myself have asked for a BIOS switch or at least an option on discharge order but nothing has happened so far and I dont think its going to happen either.  I do not speak for Lenovo..

So HP laptops have a tendency of overheating... and when they do, they power off immediately. This is NOT that issue. When I'm working solely on my battery (no AC charger) My laptop will turn off in maybe 45 minutes... I keep an eye on the battery level and it never drops to below 20% when this occurs. The laptop isn't burning hot and no error/warning messages are displayed (and no beeps).... Just poof power off. Ive downloaded the newest HP support assistant and ran the battery test and it said it was fine.I've tried to the manual calibration (since Support assistant isn't giving me the option to calibrate it) where I do the diagnostic logic (F2) and run the Hard Drive test on Battery until the laptop dies... Plugged in the charger and restarted.. what do you know, battery was at 40%... on the battery battery level button is showing half-charge.... So what do I do when the laptop is saying battery is good - not replace... How do I force that calibration? Something is wrong in that the power is dying half-way through the power cycle. Apprecaite any advice!

This problem started 3 weeks ago.

When battery charge reaches 100% the AC LED indicator is turned off and the laptop runs from battery (decreasing it's performance even selecting High Performance power plan).
If the AC plug is disconnected and reconnected the AC LED indicator is turned on until battery is fully charged again, as soon as the battery is fully charged windows battery notification icon changes from "99% available (plugged in, charging)" to "Fully Charged" and then the AC is turned off and the laptop starts to run from battery again.

I didn't update any laptop specific software nor BIOS.

Whenever I unplug my computer from its charging cord it automatically turns off. I was having this problem before, but replaced the battery with a brand new one. It was working fine and I broke in the battery by charging and discharging it fully for the first 3 cycles and the laptop was working well without power for the past week since I got it, other than taking a minute or so to respond to me pushing the power on button before working when it was not connected to the cord. Now this morning it switches off whenever I unplug it even though the battery says it is at 100% charge and still charging. But, the light on the side of my power port is on red/orange when I have it plugged in, but only when it's lid is closed and it is fully booted up. I checked on other forum answers and tried changing to different power saving plans and even switching all options to 'never' but nothing has worked.I also looked at the pins underneath my laptop where my battery should go to see if they are damaged. Two of them are on a different angle to the rest but I think this is how the laptop was built anyway? I dont want to move them incase it just makes the situation worse. What should I try next? I would like this fixed ASAP as I need this laptop for school and often don't have access to a power plug in class. Thankyou.

This has been happening for over one and a half months now.2. The battery also lasts lesser time than what the battery indicator indicates (MUCH lesser). It has been a little over 2 years now since I purchased this laptop. Ofcourse it depends on my usage. But the battery indicator should suggest reasonably sensible "lasting" time right?

My laptop keeps turning itself of when it is on battery. It lasts about 20 minutes, but is getting shorter everytime.

The battery is not running out- when I turn it back on it has 50% charge normally.

It turns off as if it has no power- no warning, and when I turn it back on it reloads and everything is new, with documents and Internet sessions needing restoring.

How can I fix this? I don't think it is the battery, as it has charge when I turn it back on, and it only has 20% wear.

Thanks!

A:Laptop Randomly Turns Off When In Battery

Welcome to TSG!!

If it's truly random, it won't be the Power Management settings. Some laptops have a utility that enables you to "calibrate" your battery. It will fully charge, then fully discharge the battery, perhaps more than one cycle, to allow the laptop to "learn" the battery's capabilities and characteristics. Check and see if you can find such an app. Different manufacturers will give it different names. Also, check their Web site to see if it is a separate download.

Hello,  I've had a problem with my 500-14ISK where the screen will instantly turn off when running on battery. This happens in the bios and withing the OS.  As far as I can tell it is not just dimming the screen/backlight. It is slowly driving me mad not being able to move around with a laptop. So far I have tried the following.  Reinstalled Windows 10Updated Intel and Nvidia driversUpdate Intel ME softwareReinstalled latest bios (D3CN35WW)Rolled back to all previous available bios versions (D3CN28WW, D3CN34WW, D3CN35WW)Downgraded Intel & Nvidia driversDowngraded Intel ME SoftwareBooted to Debian live disk to test same behaviour. Tried a different chargerSearched the many forums posts with people that have similar issues, saying to try a linked Intel ME version or trying new windows profiles even though this happens outside of windows. Let the battery die completely Turned on conservation mode for the battery with the AC plugged in. The screen then turns off as it tries to run off battery.Ran the Lenovo system update toolsRan the Lenovo diagnostics tools. All OK.Searched the Lenovo Reddit subreddit to see other people with similar problems and no answer. Have I missed anything?  I can't believe support for a product can just blankly end like this when it can be seen that a continued number of people are having a problem with the laptop which still falls within EU warranties.

Hello guys and girls,

I have an issue since some times that I really don't know how to solve.
In November 2013 I bought in Poland, where I live, a nice TOSHIBA SATELLITE L50-A-16Q (PSKJNE).
On this computer, although, something is constantly causing me problems: *very often the power shuts down suddenly while on battery*, even if the app "TOSHIBA PC health monitor" which also monitors CPU temperature, does not show any sign of criticality.

However, there is something abnormal going on: I have noticed thanks to this software that, every time I unplug the charger, the fan speed goes to zero, apparently putting the system cooling at risk. And I know from the manual that if the processor temperature reaches a critical level, the system automatically shuts down.

Is there anyway to fix the problem in order not to shut it down suddenly, making me lose data while on battery?
Maybe turning on fan speed, somehow, while on this mode?

Thank you every one very much for your contribution, in advance.

Kind Regards,

Matteo

A:My Satellite L50-A-16Q turns off suddenly while on battery

Hi Matteo

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. It would be interesting to know exact battery capacity when this happen.

Using advanced power options you can change many important values so I recommend you to test all this. Try to use notebook with power saver power plan and lower CPU activity.
I don't know if the CPU or any other hardware component reach critical temperature level but please be careful how do you use your machine. Cooling fans must be free and your notebook must be able to ?take a breath?.

Try to test usage with different power plans and using it on the desk only, not placed on the knees or your bed.

By the way: cooling fan activity can be defined in advanced power settings > Toshiba power saver > cooling method. Check it out.

I have an XPS 15z. About a month ago the battery stopped charging and after some quick googling I determined it was likely a charging jack problem. So I ordered a new one from Dell via Amazon (my laptop is several years old and no longer under warranty), and in the meantime used another laptop. Today finally had free time to install new charging jack.
Good news - the new jack works! Bad news - the laptop will only turn on if the battery is disconnected. If I try to power on with the battery connected, the charging light on the laptop flashes red (usually signals low battery/not plugged in), the laptop makes a brief startup noise, and then dies. This happens even with AC adapter plugged in. With AC adapter plugged in but no battery the laptop turns on normally. I've tried discharging static (unplugging battery and adapter and holding power button for 10 secs) but this does nothing.
Any ideas? Would a connected dead battery prevent the laptop from powering on? Did not using the laptop for several weeks do something to the battery? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

A:XPS15z only turns on when battery not plugged in

Hi Whatthebattery
Thanks for writing to us.
Please try another battery if possible.
Without the battery, with the ac adapter connected power up the machine, post powering on connect the battery, let us know if any changes with this procedure. Also check if the battery charges. If yes, then update the BIOS from support.euro.dell.com and let us know how it goes.
Check in BIOS the status for ac adapter and battery as well and keep us posted.
Do try this battery on another machine if feasible.
Do provide us your system tag#, email address and name via private message,by clicking on my name in blue and then select send a private message

Hello, Two weeks after my one year warranty was up my laptop started shutting off when the battery was around 30-40%.  I checked the battery using the HP Support Assistant Diagnostic Check and it continues to say the "Primary battery is OK."  I've also noticed that since this started happening the battery won't fully charge.  It only charges to 90-94% then shows "94% available (plugged in, not charging)."  I used to unplug the battery until the battery saver (set at 20%) would turn on then I'd fully charge it and repeat.   I use my laptop for work so I'm usually plugged in 8-14 hours a day for five days a week.  I shut it off every night as well.  Am I missing something or is this the battery life I should get?  Did I use it too much?  I purposefully got a long life battery because for work. I found the article below which sounds similar to my situation and wanted to ask anyway. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavilion-15-notebook-sudden... This is my first HP and I didn't have battery issues like this with any previous laptop doing the same amount of work/usage for at least 2+ years.  Is this the way HP's are?  Am I supposed to expect this type of performance out of my laptop? Thanks for any help/suggestions/words of wisdom.
