Adobe Fixes Flash Zero-Day with Massive Security Update

Q: Adobe Fixes Flash Zero-Day with Massive Security Update

Adobe Fixes Flash Zero-Day with Massive Security Update (dated June 11, 2010).

"Adobe's Flash update today contains a staggering 32 bug fixes, eerily reminiscent of Apple's massive update. It's been a busy couple of weeks for overworked security teams everywhere," agrees Andrew Storms, director of security operations for nCircle, adding "It sure looks like Adobe is the new Microsoft--the place where security researchers love to find new bugs."

Security Bulletin: Security update available for Adobe Flash Player.

Adobe recommends users of Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2 and earlier versions update to Adobe Flash Player 10.1.53.64. Adobe recommends users of Adobe AIR 1.5.3.9130 and earlier versions update to Adobe AIR 2.0.2.12610.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

INTERNET SOFT UNDERBELLY Adobe Flash has been flushed with a range of updates that should make it less onerous for at least four weeks.
The patch whack on the software is a big one, and sees Adobe level 79 fixes at it and its users. There is some argument that reckons that Flash should be linked with a sack, some rocks and the sea, but Adobe insists on patching up its old pal.
This is the last of the Adobe releases this year, so you might assume it is something of a best of. It is not, it is a package of bandages that cover threats that can be considered critical and thus urgent.
Judging by the noises coming from the security commentary community, these are not patches that you want to sit on so get applying.

The update has been out for a few day but I thought I would post this to make people aware of the update.

Hi.
Thank you for all your support and security updates for my two Surface RTs.
They?re great and I don?t want to see them go.  A quick aside? It would be nice for my two Surface RTs and me, if Microsoft had a change of heart and decided to port Windows 10 RT with Office RT for Surface RT and get a few
more years support.  Anyway.
Today one of my Surface RT 8.1 provided the option on shut down, to update and restart, which I did.
It said it was installing 4 updates.  When rebooted, I went to view update history and found two failed updates and three successful ones for a total of five.
The first one in the list that failed is this one here below.

Then to get more information, I clicked the link shown there for 4048958 to learn more.
That took me to the Microsoft Security Update Guide, where I searched for 4048958 and was provide two links for RT 8.1.
Both links, one for IE11 and one for RT 8.1, go to the KB 4048958 article, which says to get more information, go to the Security Update Guide, which of course takes one back to the KB.
Not very informative loop I guess.
The second update that is on the list above showing as failed, is the one for Adobe to prevent remote code execution.
When I am in Windows Update and double-click the failed entry for Adobe, and then click the link for more information, it takes me to a URL that does not show a KB number and provides a link for more i... Read more

Today there has been an update released for IE, a cumulative one, KB3139929. It contains important security fixes, although I think they are not so important for someone like me who never even opens IE let alone browses with it. I really ought to install this update but there is a huge problem, it has as one of it's non-security fixes (which come along with it during installation) something called KB3146449. KB3146449 is an update to make "upgrade" from windows 8.1 or 7 to windows 10 easier, it might go so far as to cause "upgrade" I'm not so sure about that though, Either way I have no intention of taking that kind of risk. Therefore I need a way to install KB3139929 but avoid the non-security fixes coming alongside it. I assume there must be a way that this can be done, there are circumstances from time to time where users will want to install a cumulative update to IE but some of the non-security fixes might be buggy or (as n this case) highly unwelcome. Please can someone explain a method to install the cumulative security fixes without KB3146449 coming along with them, cannot risk installing an update which may then cause unwelcome "upgrade".
The link below gives the page for the cumulative updatehttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3139929
You may notice the mention on that page of the fact that KB3146449 is a non-security fix included alongside the security fix, but you will find that the link about it instead goes off to another page, nothng to do with KB3146449. ... Read more

When Microsoft released the Windows 8.1 Update, IT feathers were ruffled by Microsoft's decision to make it a compulsory update: without it, Windows 8.1 systems would no longer receive security fixes. As spotted by Computerworld's Gregg Keizer, Microsoft is applying the same rules, at least in part, to Windows 7.
Windows 7 users who've installed Internet Explorer 11 are required to install the KB2929437 update. This is the Internet Explorer 11 update that corresponds to the Windows 8.1 Update; it doesn't just include security fixes for Microsoft's browser. There are also some new and improved features, including a more capable WebGL implementation and some additional high performance JavaScript features. If users don't install the update, Windows Update will not provide any more security fixes for their browser.

A:For Internet Explorer 11 users, no update now means no security fixes

I recall the update but didn't realize the implications behind it, probably because IE is seldom used on my computers, was going to open it & see if there are any visual differences.

However IE11 is now freezing & EMET 4.1 is giving a 'SimExecFlow' error. Will sort it it out in the morning.

Or maybe it's better security wise to leave IE frozen?

Adobe Flash Player

http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb07-12.html

Severity rating

Adobe categorizes this as a critical issue and recommends affected users upgrade to version 9.0.47.0.
Details

An input validation error has been identified in Flash Player 9.0.45.0 and earlier versions that could lead to the potential execution of arbitrary code. This vulnerability could be accessed through content delivered from a remote location via the users web browser, email client, or other applications that include or reference the Flash Player. (CVE-2007-3456)

An issue with insufficient validation of the HTTP Referer has been identified in Flash Player 8.0.34.0 and earlier. This issue does not affect Flash Player 9. This issue could potentially aid an attacker in executing a cross-site request forgery attack. (CVE-2007-3457)

The Linux and Solaris updates for Flash Player 7 (7.0.70.0) address the issues with Flash Player and the Opera and Konqueror browsers described in Security Advisory APSA07-03. These issues do not impact Flash Player 9 on Linux or Solaris. (CVE-2007-2022)

Hi

Hope someone can help.

I've been asked to gain a security accrediation for my company and during the initial vulnerability scans (Nessus), we have a number of 8.1 PCs (which we will have until early next year so can't just get shot of them) that are failing because of an outdated
and unsupported version of Adobe Flash Player, specifically:

The following unsupported Flash player controls were detected :
Product : ActiveX control (for Internet Explorer)
  Path : C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx
  Installed version : 11.8.800.175
  Supported versions : 19.x / 18.x

We have installed:

The latest Windows Security Updates for Adobe Flash Player - July 2018 (KB4338832)
The latest Adobe Flash Players (all three types) all at version 30.0.0.134

I need to get flash.ocx, FlashUtil_ActiveX.dll and FlashUtil_ActiveX.exe version 11.8.800.175 updated to at least version 19 but I cannot find any installer or way to do this. I have also tried taking ownership of these files and have on some machines had
success at removing them manually, but for some reason its not allowing me to do it on all of the affected PCs.

Could anyone help me figure out a way to update these to the latest version as its going to fail me my security accrediation.

I have seen this:  how do i uninstall flash player from  window 8.1 and reinstall the newer version so I am not sure if I am just g... Read more

Everytime I visit a site that uses Adobe Flash, it tells me I need to update to the latest version.. I download and re-install, and it works for awhile.. But eventually it asks me to update to the latest version again.. I keep updating to the same version, there is nothing new.. Why does it keep asking me to update, when I have the latest version?

A:Adobe Flash keeps asking to update

Try downloading, and running the latest stand alone Flash Uninstaller: |MG| Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller 10.3.183.10 Download

Then do the same with the latest Flash version:
IE - Download Flash Player 10.3.183.10 (IE) - FileHippo.com
Non IE - Download Flash Player 10.3.183.10 (Non-IE) - FileHippo.com

Then once you have done this, go to: control panel > Flash Player and in the flash settings, select "don't look for updates to flash". If you do this, you'll be responsible for checking for flash updates every so often yourself. You can do that be bookmarking this site: Adobe - Flash Player

So, according to Firefox's status on my addons currently installed, I had updates for the following:

Java
Shockwave for Director
Shockwave Flash

So, I went and downloaded and installed both versions of Java, updated fine. I downloaded the latest installer for "Shockwave for Director" and it installed fine, yet the addon page still thinks it needs updated.

Now, here's the problem, which has been going on for a while, which I have been unable to fix.

Whenever I get the latest installer (I have 6 copies of it now) for Flash from Adobe's website, and run it.. after allowing it access via the prompt, the process proceeds to sit in the background and do nothing. No GUI appears or anything.

I've sat and waited for it. Nothing happens, except the process eventually disappears. I really have no idea when this started to happen, as I used to updated Flash whenever it said it needed it (usually when I'd start the PC up, Adobe would pop up with its little gray window saying an update was available, so I would update it then, and all was well).

Now, however, it seems I'm unable to do so. Of course, I've run all the preliminary scans to make sure it's not malware-related, and it isn't. Something, for some reason, is just preventing the GUI from appearing.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or an alternative method of installation that may work?

Thanks!

Hello,

Sometimes I've been getting the Adobe Flash Update Pop-ups once in a while. I ran antivirus scans, hitmanpro, etc. I ran Farbar and I pasted the Addition.txt and FRST.txt

Thank You for the support

PS: This only happened 3 times this week, on Chrome and IE.

Before I also installed a game called Wizzard101, but during the set-up, a strange popup came granting permission to modify changes to my PC. I clicked no, then immediately uninstalled the game using Revo Uninstaller. I ran some scans with McAfee, HitmanPro, MalwareBytes etc but everything was fine.

hi,

Sometimes this can be a fake prompt to install malware. Does it happen only when you seem to be browsing the internet or on a  web site?
You can visit the Adobe page and see if your version is the latest.

Dell XPS 420 running Vista and IE9. On IE9 startup and each new page I get an IE Security warning: "A Website wants to open web content using this program on your computer.
This program will open outside of Protected mode.....
Name: Adobe Flash Player
Publisher: Adobe Systems INC
(then the following buttons) Allow Don't allow"

To close the box I must click on "don't allow". Then I am fine untill I click on another item, and get the same message. Checking the "don't show me the warning for this program again" is ignored by IE. For example, on this site while looking for a thread about this problem each time I open a new thread or go back I get the same message. I found a thread started on 9 Aug, 2010 by suhjonathan97 (and another user) that described my exact problem but the thread expired without an anwser. I ran avira, no virus detected. Tried a restore from yesterday no help. Oh yeah, when I start IE the warning comes up while IE is trying to connect to the internet, have to click "don't allow" to finish IE start.
