Preferred Solution: LIBusb, USB ports doesn't work. Safe mode also no work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After upgrading to SP2 about a month ago so I could take finals on my computer at school, i noticed that my computer wouldn't boot up in safe mode (i just get a blank dark screen and i can hear the computer doing something but giving it a reasonable amount of time it doesn't progress from that screen). It didn't concern me because normal mode was working and i was able to take my tests. But now I want to get to the bottom of this. I delayed getting sp2 because i had a feeling it would mess up my computer. (i've had other problems too with visual skins but i was able to resolve those). If it matters, i ran a scan of my system with spyware doctor and it said i had a trojan.dialer and needed to boot in safemode to get rid of it. When I tried, it wouldn't load. Oh, btw, any way to get rid of that trojan.dialer without using safemode?

Hello knowledgeable ones!
Switched computer on today (Medion with Windows XP) and got black screen with message to start normally or safe mode etc. Tried starting normally, after countdown, returns to same message. Tried safe mode and other options with same result. Tried rebooting with F8 pressed, takes me to Boot Menu with option of Hard Disk or CDRom. Do not have a CDrom with computer. Hard Disk option reads:
- Ch2 M : WDC WD2500JD-00HBB0 - (same message with this option)
- Bootable Add-in Cards
Where do I go from here.

Computer was working fine before, only recent event was after running Spybot Search and Destroy, an error was found regarding X10 USB Wireless Transceiver which was fixed. That was the last time it worked!
Using a neighbour's laptop who suggested I could download something to help, but what that is, neither of us know! I'd hate to lose my files which has my son's diary and photos!
Sorry to be such a novice but would appreciate some guidance. Many thanks

When I log on to safe mode in XP my cursor does not work. I can tab to different functions and I can type in safe mode with command prompt. The cursor works in all other modes. I'm using a Kensington Expert Mouse 5 with a serial connection, and I'm using the version of the mouseworks driver that Kensington recommends (5.61) for serial connections. Any ideas of why the cursor is frozen in safe mode?

I think that would be a good question for Kensington. Do they claim this mouse driver is XP compatible? Can it be adapted to PS2?

Please help, whenever I turn my computer on, the screen goes black just before the login screen. The computer still works, as it still makes all the noises it would normally make, eg. the login noise if I type my password. If I hit F8 when the computer first starts, it comes up with lots of options, one of those is 'last known good configuration'. That use to work and fix it, but now it no longer does. The computer also works perfectly fine on safe mode. My OS is Vista business, I have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 32-bit OS. If I go into control panel in safe mode and go to problem reports and solutions, it says there is a problem with my graphics driver, but I can't find a way to update it. That's my summary, if you think you can solve it, below is more detailed.
I use my laptop at school. One day I closed it (which locks my computer), but when I opened it, the screen wouldn't work, but it still made all the regular sounds, such as the music I was playing. When I turned it on and off, it worked up until just before the login screen. This would keep happening unless I ran it in safe mode. Eventually I took it to the school IT department and they fixed it.
Quite a bit later the same thing happened. This time, while in safe mode, when the help menu came up, I searched around a bit until I found that hitting f8, when the computer starts, gives you a boot up menu. I tried this and one of the options was last known good configuration (LKGC), I chose this and the co... Read more

A:My screen doesn't work except in safe mode.

To me, this sounds like an issue with graphics card drivers.
When you go into Safe Mode, hit to go into Safe Mode with Networking. Without it you cannot go on to the internet (Which is also why you can't download drivers when you hook up a USB Drive...I think it usually goes to Windows Update, but cannot connect because you are in Safe Mode without Networking).
Go to the site for your graphics card's drivers and try installing the drivers fresh.

I'm not the best at this, but I read your post and that's what I think is wrong. I could be wrong. If it's not the problem, then I don't know and sorry.

Hey all
I cannot get my keyboard to work, unless my pc is in safe mode ? I checked for drivers there are none missing. I did a system restore,
I bought a new keyboard, I checked every setting I could find and all seems good,I did a scan with AVG found Nothing.
So I am out of ideas other than to re-format and partions. So any other ideas and or options would be appriciated.

In safe mode, try deleting the keyboard drivers from device manager then rebooting to get them to reinstall.

When I try to start my computer normally it just restarts. I do not have a blue screen. Originally, I had problems with the computer freezing up immediately after logging on. Now it won't boot up normally at all. I also can't access control panel, use the search on my computer, or run malwarebytes, even in safe mode. All of these things cause my computer to freeze up. After reading several posts on my separate laptop I was able to get the error code for why the Windows 7 isn't loading.

stop : 0X00000024 (0X0000000000190494 , 0xFFFFFA800471DA70, 0XFFFFFFFFC0000102 , 0X0000000000000000)

The pc was built with several different parts by my ex and I don't have the CD for Windows 7 to use on it. I was thinking about reformatting it anyway, but couldn't since the drive I wanted to format was running Windows 7.

Any ideas on how to get my pc to work without the CD?

A:Not loading OS, Safe mode doesn't work

It seems a problem with ntfs.sys. The best way is to use recovery console but since you don't have the installation cd you can't do that. So try to run chkdsk /f /r, this may do the job.
It would be better if you attach the dump file to your post.

On a Dell Dimension E521 with XP installed the computer will not load XP. I am given options to boot to Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, etc., load last configuration that worked but none of the options work.

I have tried to Restore XP but a password is required and I can't seem to remember what or if one was used...all I try are rejected.

I can choose to format the drive but I would like to find out if there is a way I can get access to my files before I do that. I keep most files on a thumb drive but there are some on the hard drive I'd like to at least see the names of before I format the drive. How can I do that?

Somehow I have encountered the virus Cyberlog-X and have no idea how to get rid of it.

After searching the net for tools to use, I have still come up empty.

I have downloaded SmitfraudFix, I already have McAfee and Spy Sweeper and nothing detects the virus. Oh yeah, when I try to run safe mode, nothing will work. When I click on anything, the computer just freezes up and I get the hourglass....for ever. *Update* I finally got safe mode to work, but it keeps freezing when I double click on my Smitfraudfix icon. Do I have to use Safe Mode???

I have no idea how to get rid of this silly thing.

Any suggestions????

I have the dreaded Vundo trojan, which is what got me into this mess in the first place. Hopefully someone can assist with helping me get out of my Catch-22.....

I have Windows XP....

1. Ran MSConfig
2. Under boot.ini tab, I checkmarked SAFEBOOT
3. Rebooted computer
4. PC boots with limited graphics ability, which I expected.
5. I click on my user icon
6. Windows begins to start, but nothing is displayed on the screen with the exception of a few white characters and a couple of labels that say "Safe Mode"
7. The only thing that I can get to happen is if I CTL-ALT-DELETE I get the Task Manager.
8. Because of steps 1 & 2, I'm unable to boot Windows in normal mode

1. Is there some way to get Safe Mode to work?
2. How can I undo what I've did in steps 1 & 2 without accessing Windows?

A:Safe Mode doesn't work, and now unable to boot in Normal

Hello dfreeze and welcome to BC.If you can get back to Task Manager, go to the Applications tab and click New Task. Type in msconfig.exe and uncheck Safeboot. On the screen where you choose Safe Mode (get there by pressing F8 as you turn the computer on (or restart) until you see the menu) is one of the options Last Known Good Configuration? If so try that.

Hello everyone,

I just built a desktop with brand new hardware, all except the hard drive, which is taken from my old system. The hard drive has the OS from my old system (which was working fine) plus all of the data.

Now, the hardware on the system seem to be working fine, but it goes to BSOD on boot.

System specifications:
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bit (Retail;Original OS)
Asus P8Z68-v LX
Zotac Geforce GTX 560
Intel Core i-7 2600k Sandy Bridge
8 gb ram Corsair
700W power supply

Here is the boot process:
1. ASUS logo from P8Z68-V keyboard
2. "Starting Windows" screen (the 4 colored dots move, in the process of becoming the windows logo)
3. The dots freeze for about half a second
4. BSOD: STOP 0x0000007B 0xFFFFF880009A97E8 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034 0x0000000000 0x0000000000

I've tried System Restore and Startup Repair Tool, neither does a thing. I've also tried to start the system with Safe Mode, but the same BSOD happens.

Because I can't get into Windows, there's no way for me to run any of the diagnostics tools.

Does anyone know of what the problem is and how I can fix it? Been working on it the whole day and it's driving me crazy...

If there is any additional information I can provide, please post.

Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!!

I have a problem. Two problems to be exact, but the most pressing being that my mouse doesn't work. It is stuck in the middle of the screen, and the cursor is invisible.

The original problem I had, prior to developing this new mouse problem, was the start menu. Neither the windows button nor the icon on the bottom left corner of the screen would open up the windows menu.

To try the solve that, I followed the instructions found in this video

I was directed to restart my computer.
Upon restarting it, I was booted into safe mode, BUT my mouse wouldn't move, and the cursor was invisible.

I have tried unplugging the mouse and restarting multiple times, but to no avail. So currently, my main issue is that the computer won't detect my mouse, and I am unable to do anything.

If anyone could please help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

A:Win10 Booted in Safe Mode - Mouse doesn't work

Does the keyboard work? If it does you can do a lot with it, without a mouse. Just takes a bit of trial and error.
Is the mouse plugged into a USB3 port perhaps? If so, try a USB2 port. Even if not, use a different USB port. If plugged into the rear USB, try the front.

Please help.... My Windows 7 will not boot. I tried Safe Boot...nothing...Repair...says It cannot repair. I've figured out how to bypass password issue getting into System Recovery. From there I tried System Restore but an "unexpected error" came up. System cannot find specified file.
Now, I did find an old post from 6 years ago recommending FRST, which I was able to run on my "Dead7". But now I'm not sure what to do because that thread went in a different direction than my issue. I do have the file FRST produced, but that's as far as I can go.
Can somebody PLEASE PLEASE ( i know, i'm begging...lol) help with this? This is not an "online" pc as I only use it for music, although it has been online recently but that was only for drivers..
I appreciate any and all comments and help..
Thank You...

A:Windows 7 won't boot, not even safe mode and repair doesn't work either

FRST is a tool used with malware situations...which is why it's not allowed or used in this forum.  We do not address malware issues.
If you want to post your FRST log in the proper forum because you suspect malware...then please post it in the Malware Removal Logs forum (link is in my signature).
The only useful data which you have provided thus far...is that your system won't boot.  There can be any number of reasons for this, ranging from hardware to O/S to malware issues.
If it were me...I would check the obvious suspect, the hard drive itself, by running the long generic test of SeaTools for Windows on said hard drive.  If nothing else, that should help eliminate something from consideration.

Just all of my stuff was gone. Now it just hangs at the windows logo and never goes past that. I can get to the repair program though. Safe mode just hangs at the windows logo too.

I appreciate any help.

I've posted the message below in the Virus, etc. Removal Logs forum already. I'm new here (first time infected with a virus!) and so don't know which forum is really the most appropriate to get the quickest useful response. Apologies if posting in more that one thread is against etiquette.

My PC has been infected with a UK version of the FBI MoneyPak virus, claiming to come from the Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) and demanding ?100 via uKAsh or paysafe care to unlock my computer.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium.

I have tried to follow the advice on the Norton support site and here on bleeping computer by starting the computer in safe mode. But as soon as I log in, the virus takes over the whole screen so I cannot use my browzer to download any software to try to fix it.

The only thing I am able to do when the virus screen has appeared is to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to bring up the screen which gives options:
Lock this computer
Switch User
Log off
Change a password
Start Task Manager
Shut down, etc.

If I try to start Task Manager, it flashes for half a second then disappears and the virus screen takes over again.

I'm completely stuck. What help or advice you can offer.

Thanks in advance

I have a Gateway PC, 5 or so years old, running Windows XP Media Edition.

A few days ago, soon after having installed some Windows updates, my wireless Microsoft mouse and keyboard stopped working. I plugged in a spare PS/2 mouse, and in the bluetooth dialog box removed, added, and reconnected both components. The wireless mouse and keyboard worked, but not for long. I then uninstalled and attempted to reinstall the mouse and keyboard software (except that the software apparently had not uninstalled). This did not fix the problem.

From here on I tried so many things, I do not recall in what order. I did a system restore via Advanced System Care, then tried again using a much earlier date. After a very long wait I was informed that my system could not be restored to that date.

I ran Reimage, which reported a moderately severe stability problem with numerous crashes. This program fixed and replaced files, etc, but got stuck while attempting to reinstall Windows updates (during repairs, Reimage removes Windows updates and reinstalls them afterward, but for some reason this last step has never worked with my computer and I've had to reinstall the updates manually). The computer was frozen and I was forced to turn it off using the power button. When I turned the computer back on, I had no working keyboard or mouse, and again had to use the power button to turn off the computer.

I plugged in a PS/2 keyboard and started the computer in bios, resetting bios to default sett... Read more

Advanced System Care, which fixed a lot, especially in the registryThe IObit program is just a Registry Cleaner that will repair almost nothing, except your hope - You will never know if it repaired anything -You are better off to remove all Chinese IObit programs and only use proven programs for your computer Malwarebytes and Advanced System Care will not operate correctly on the same system, as both clash with each other Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a proven and trusted program world wide, while IObit is forced on Chinese users as their options are limited.Do you have a Regular Antivirus program that is active and is scanning at all times ??Thank You -

Is my hard drive dead? Here's what I've already tried:
Chkdsk /r (which did find some bad files)
Startup repair (which did not identify the issue)
Starting in safe mode - result was a partial start with list of drivers, then a blank screen
System restore to earlier date - tells me there is no restore point (?!)
Can't reinstall Vista bc I no longer have the cd
Fortunately, I have Carbonite, so probably haven't lost any important files. Before I head for the Apple store, I thought I'd see if anyone has additional ideas to get this PC to boot?
Thanks in advance, Rachel

I had the security suite virus on my computer, so I started running it in safe mode with networking to get on the net before I tried to fix it.
I quickly found out that sound isn't enabled on safe mode, so I looked around online to find a solution for this.

I came across this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0oFKPucAhU

I did everything I needed to do, sound works! But the internet doesn't. It works on my other accounts(thats how I'm posting this)

So now whenever I open any of my browsers, it says it can't find the webpage, or the webpage isn't available. I figured out how to remove the virus while the computer was on just normal mode, so I tried opening the internet in normal mode, and it still says the same stuff.

I have a feeling this messed with the registry on my computer because it was a .reg file. It gave me some warning beforehand, but I just ignored it and clicked "Ok"
EDIT: Nevermind, went to LAN settings and clicked automatic. Thanks anyways!

I have an Acer desktop with Vista 32bit Home Premium edition with Service Pack 1 loaded on it. My computer was working fine yesterday afternoon (at least it appeared to be), but when I tried to boot my computer up last night, I could not get my desktop to load. Windows seems to boot up, as I can get to the screen with the user names to login. No matter which user I select, however, the screen just goes black with only the cursor showing. I have tried booting from the last good boot point from the F8 menu, but the same problem persists. I have tried booting in safe mode, but the screen shows up all black once again, except for the four 'Safe Mode' texts in the four corners and the text Microsoft (R) Windows (R) (Build 6001: Service Pack 1) at the center top of the screen.

The Repair Your Computer option from the F8 menu at startup is about the only thing I have been able to get open on the computer thus far. Startup repair can't find anything wrong with the computer. When I try to do System Restore, I get the error 0x800700B7, so it can't rollback to my restore points. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and it didn't seem to find any errors, although I couldn't view the whole report when it restarted because the screen, once again, went completely black except for the mouse cursor when it restarted.

I am at wits end and have no idea what to do to try to get my computer to start. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as this is my computer... Read more

My sister's Acer Aspire One 722 running Windows 7 gives this message "A disk read error occurred. Press Control +Alt to restart" every time we try to start the computer. She did not download anything new or made any changes prior to this. However, she told me that before this happened she had put her computer to sleep, and when she tried to wake it up, it showed "For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller. Check cable connection! PXE-ROM: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key". So she forced shut down her computer. When she restarted, the countdown that always comes up whenever computer is forced shutdown came up, then a message about the computer performing a disk recovery and an automatic repair appeared. When that was finally finished, the option menu for starting windows normally or in safe mode came up. She chose to start normally. After an hour or two of use, the computer started lagging and eventually froze, so she forced shutdown again. She turned her computer back on and it was working normally, so she shut it down normally and went to sleep. Then today every time she start her computer the Acer logo would pop up normally but then it would say "A disk read error occured. Press Control+Alt+Del to restart". The BIOs menu (F2) is accessible, so is boot option menu (F12). I tried to access both Safe Mode with F8 and Acer eRecovery Console with Alt+F12 to no avail. Neither of my CD-ROM drives will work (actually, both are DVD/CD I believe). But they do work in safe mode, perfectly.

Dell actually came and replaced the drives but they still didn't work so they put the old ones back in. Hours on the phone with Dell, their final suggested solution was to reinstall the OS. Frankly, I don't have time for this; I have to use my computer every single day and can't afford the downtime and the potential for not being able to reinstall some of my programs, do the configurations of the programs, etc.

We (me and the Dell guy) updated the drivers, including "firmware" (whatever that is).

This all seemed to happen after installing XP Service Pack 3, so we (me and the Dell guy) tried to do a system restore; that didn't work; uninstalled SP3; that didn't work.

I found a suggested fix by Googling, but that didn't work either -- checking the Device Manager for conflicts. I saw no yellow conflict flags (is that what I'm looking for there?)

I also went to the RUN prompt and typed sfc /scannow because someone suggested that to see if there is a driver conflict. Nothing came up (it appeared to be running through its paces for a while and then finished up and closed; not sure if that definitely means no problems?).

The computer is a Dell Vostro 400 (desktop) with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (was 3). I bought it new from Dell December 2007. I run AVG antivirus.

I'm currently living in a dorm room that has two Ethernet ports on each wall, two for myself and two for my roommate. I am trying to get my pc and xbox both hooked up because the wifi here is really spotty but one of the two ports, on both walls, doesn't work. It's my understanding that an Ethernet cable wouldn't fit into a phone jack so I'm assuming it is an Ethernet hookup because the cable fits into both ports and one does give me internet access just fine, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what's going on.

A:Two ethernet ports in the wall but one doesn't work?

There could be a couple of reasons for this situation. Oftentimes when cabling jobs are undertaken, they may install a two-port (or more) plate on a wall. However, that's not to say all ports are wired up at the time; it could be left for a later date, subject to requirements. Another possibility is the cable exists, but it isn't hooked in through a switch at the other end to provide connectivity.

You could either approach the management and ask them about connectivity, just in case there is a wiring error. Alternatively, you could purchase a cheap switch and use this for connecting additional devices from the working port.

My microsoft 600 usb mouse and keyboard suddenly do not work properly anymore. Whenever I plug them into the rear ports they disconnect and freeze(computer remains running). It sometimes requires a reboot for it to work again. This is really weird and frustrating as I can run my other devices out of the back perfectly like my mic and usb drive.

Changes since problems started developing
-Large Amount of Windows Update
-Cleaned computer with compressed air. Allowed it to dry just in case of condensation.
-Installed new secondary hard drive
-Installed new Nvidia graphics card
-Updated Utorrent and installed conduit by accident. Deleted it.
-Removed 4 files with malwarebytes. Most likely false positives with safe torrents I downloaded.

Things I tried
-Different usb ports in the back
-Updating Drivers
-Disabling and enabling keyboard and mouse settings
-Disabling usb sleep thing in power control
-sfc scannow in command prompt came back without errors
-Disabling HID drivers in device manager

A:Keyboard for some reason doesn't work in rear ports.

try and do a system restore to before any of these problems occurred. Start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore; then pick a date and time at which you know the system was working fine with the rear ports. IF that doesnt work; then you might try and see if there are any updated drivers for your usb hub controller(s).

My problem began when someday i had issue in my windows which was usb was not recognized as i tried putting 3 usbs but all of them didn't work and i have 2 usb ports in my laptop which is dell xps 15z so i don't think it is a hardware issue
My problem continued and i searched and searched the internet for solutions but no one really worked so i decided to format the windows and installing new clean windows 7 one, and i did so and after installation i had too many more problems knowing that i installed all the required drivers needed for the laptop and checked them with driver genius, now any usb i plug in isn't even sensed by the lap or self installed like the usb ports have no drivers or anything.
I tried the wireless mouse which isn't sensed on another laptop and it installed and worked instantly, so where is driver software installation which should install the mouse automatic?
and what can i do to recognize the problem? and is there anything i can install or do?
Knowing that the usb ports aren't physically defect because when i plug an old usb mouse i lights up but doesn't work cause of the mouse

Hi There,

After a marathon problem with Windows not booting, I did a clean install on another hard drive.
Now, one of my PCMIA ports (on the side of my IBM A31 Type 2652 laptop) doesn't work. Both were working fine prior to my boot problems and subsequent reinstall. One port still works, but I need to be able to use both for 1. a wireless card and 2. a USB 1.1 to 2.0 conversion card that I use when I print, etc.

I've done Windows troubleshooting for drivers, etc., but Windows (as usual) found no problem.

We have Levine/Young The Complete Reference-Windows XP. Reading through before I did the clean install, I noticed a mention that sometimes this happens when XP is reinstalled, but there is no solution to the problem mentioned.

I'm at a loss to getting both ports to work. I need a solution before the weekend is over. Thank everyone for any help you can provide!
