TV out doesn't function properly

Q: TV out doesn't function properly

I am having problems with my TV out. I have recently had my video card replaced and now have Geforce Nvidia FX5200. I can see the desktop on the TV, but I cannot watch movies, I only see the frame of the player and blackness in it, no movie.
I have tried updating the drivers. Nothing works. I am sure there is something somewhere I have to check or uncheck, but unfortunately I don't know what or where.
I would be very pleased if anyone could help me out here. TV out has no meaning if I cannot watch movies.
Much obliged,

Preferred Solution: TV out doesn't function properly

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This is quite a weird problem and it started when I replaced Firefox 3.6 with Firefox 4 (as in uninstall Firefox and install Firefox 4).
Everytime I am browing now Firefox 4 doesn't function properly in the taskbar. I made a screenshot of it which shows the problem much better.
As you can see Chrome and Foobar2000 are function properly and the way I want it, but Firefox 4 doesn't. It show the open browser and the icon to start another Firefox window and that's not how I want it.
Could anyone help me with this small problem?

A:Firefox 4 doesn't function properly in the taskbar

I'm not having any problems with FF. I'm using RC1 version... Click on that icon and remove it from taskbar. After that click with right click on firefox icon(that you browse) and select Pin to Taskbar.

After recently purchasing a new pc, I have found that my copy and paste function no longer works correctly. When I copy something, half of the time it does not paste, or pastes a random single letter.

Is this a problem that could easily be fixed, or could it be something that has infected my pc?

Thanks in advance.

Hi every one, first post here. I've been using Win 7 Ultimate 64 since the end of 2013 and never experienced any issues until now. Here is the problem:

The right click menu on most of the desktop icons doesn't open the programs. The menu opens, however clicking the "open" option or some of the other options doesn't work. Left clicking the same icons opens the programs without any issues. All the programs that do not open using the right click method are programs installed to windows. Programs like "Computer" "Recycle Bin" "Control Panel" etc. which are generic windows programs work as expected.

My computer is custom built by myself and has been rock solid. What I did was uninstalling some of these programs and reinstalling them with no resolution. Just finished a session with a MS attendant that finished in error when he was restarting my PC, but it didn't look like he had any idea what the problem was, he just run some tests that didn't show any errors.

I installed Kasperski Total Security about a month ago, but uninstalling the program didn't change anything.

Here is an example: right clicking the Google Chrome icon in the tray opens the menu, left clicking "Chrome" opens the browser however clicking on all the other options listed doesn't work, most of the other icons in the tray work properly, there are other icons on the desktop that behave in a similar manner, actually there is one Google Chrome that opens u... A:Right Click Menu Doesn't function properly, very strange issue

Try going to MSCONFIG and performing a clean (diagnostic) boot. If that works, something in startup is breaking the context menu. Next, go to Programs and Features and sort by install date, and see if uninstalling something works. Then do the same for Windows updates. You also could create a new user account and see if it works there.

I've had windows 10 for several months (previously had windows 7). Up until yesterday, when I clicked on "all apps" an alphabetical list would come up, I'd scroll to what I wanted, and click on it. If there was an item with a sublisting, like Microsoft office a down symbol would appear. Click on that and the sublisting would appear and I could select word, excel, etc. Now when I click on the down symbol it just flips to an up symbol ^ and no sub menu appears. I'd really like to get to excel. This failure to bring up a sub menu happens for every down symbol, not just Microsoft office. What do I do? Try to re-load Windows 10? Uninstall and reinstall Office? Thanks

A:"All Apps" function doesn't work properly

Hi, do you have any idea what happened yesterday? For example, if you look at your update history- did you receive an update?

Do you have System Restore on, and do you have any useful restore points?

Do you use system imaging (Windows Backup and Restore) or disk imaging which we keep strongly recommending here; that means you can restore an image previously created and get your Windows back running as was without technical help - and even recover from a disk failure or an unbootable PC? (e.g. Macrium reflect (free)).

Those could give you ways to recover.

What is your build version? (Windows key + R, winver).

If you haven't started using those vital recovery methods yet, you could try this:

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

A:Apps not starting properly, sys. recov. doesn't work, can't shut down properly, etc..

no replies yet?

anyway, just stopped by to say that when shutting down, it takes forever to get to the "Saving your settings..." screen, and that's where I decided that it stops and nothing else after that.
Defragged my C drive, still no results besides the computer feeling a bit smoother-running o_o

I'm a bit over these companies thinking we will continue to support their bad behavior.
Perhaps we currently have very little choice. But, I am hoping that with the release of Windows 9 (in 3 years) that these vendors will come to realize we are not putting up with them.

There are several posts stating "I cannot print (or scan)". I know I'm new here; but, hope to help all of us by seeing if there are any REALLY compatible all in one's out there. According to MS' website both my old all-in-None (as I call it) and the new one I purchased today, (because the HP rep stated it WAS compatible) are. However, despite my voting "Not compatible" it does not show up. So, I am hoping people can scan this thread, and see if their All-in-one is or is not compatible.

To keep things easy to follow, please respond very briefly with Make/Model/compatible or Not Compatible. A brief comment after is probably fine; but, otherwise, to help everyone scan through things, any long statements should probably be avoided.

Thanks; good luck.

The quickest fix may be to install a new USB PCI card with four or six ports... or the ones with dual USB and Firewire.
Are the drives not detected? or are they just not able to transmit data?

I am trying to set up a user account that can be used to run Windows Media Center. I would like to restrict access to just about everything else on the operating system (files, programs, etc). It seems like AppLocker would be perfect for this.

However, I cannot get AppLocker to succesfully restrict a program. I wanted to test out restricting just one program, so I did the following:

1. Created a new, standard user account.
2. Enabled Executable Rule Enforcement.
3. Created a new rule that denys access to the individual executable file for the individual account.

However, when I log onto the other account, I am completely free to run the executable that I selected.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm using Windows 7 64-bit Pro, if that matters.

A:Can't Get AppLocker to Function Properly

you will have to check with the option list on the Microsoft website but I think that applocker only operates in enterprise or ultimate SKU's of win7

You could also have a look at parental controls as this should also allow you to restrict access to programs through a white/black list system for standard user accounts.

Hello myheadhurts and welcome to BC,Download Brute Force Uninstaller. Unzip it to a folder of it?s own (c:\BFU). Read here how to unzip/extract properly: http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe Next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window you'll see a little icon on the far right. When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute' In the field, copy and paste next URL: http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu Click Ok. Then click execute in Brute Force Uninstaller. Extra note: If nothing happens after pressing the Execute button, this means that the script didn't download. In that case, download the script ( alcanshorty.bfu ) manually from above url ( rightclick on it and choose 'save as' and save it in your BFU-folder). Then start BFU.exe again and click the browse button next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window Browse to the script you downloaded and Click Ok and Execute in Brute Force Uninstaller. Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK. Press exit to terminate the BFU program. Reboot once again and post a new Hijackthislog. We'll work further from there.

I have been trying to recover my hard drive because of multiple BSODs related to error code 00000050 page etc. I am using HP's recovery disk sets (that's multiple, since I had a second set sent from HP after the first set didn't work). Computer is a Presario SR5050NX using Vista Home premium. HP replaced the HDD 3 years ago and this may be part of the problem, since I read that the disks are somehow keyed to the HDD, which is different from the one they have on file. Anyhow, after I finish the last disk, I've discovered that I must manually turn the computer off and restart (or else I get an endless graphic of files moving from folder to folder). When turned on, I get a nice bluish screen with Vista just peeking out from underneath. Screen says 'don't turn off, etc.". If I task manager this away, i get a box in the upper left hand corner that lists the computer build and "waiting for block 30%". I can get rid of this, but at the next boot, I get that pleasant bluish screen again and have to go thru the whole thing all over again.
Hope it's not too much detail above but how do I get past this??? Obviously I don't have new Vista or Windows 7 disks. I'm way out of warranty and I really don't want to sink more money into this piece of junk but this is my last gasp to save it. Any help deeply appreciated.

We may be able to solve your BSOD issues, if you are still able to boot into vista?

Follow these instructions carefully: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...ml#post2545708

If not then try using killdisk before reinstalling vista (you will lose all your data, so put the hard drive in another computer and try and save as much data as you can first)

Been lurking a while but finally it's necessary to post - I can't solve this one. I'm running Win98 SE with IE 5.5.

On the following Chevrolet website, you can click on any of the vehicle names and get a brochure to download.
The URL is:

When I click, instead of linking and downloading, I get a message in the taskbar "Error on page." Just before releasing the mouse button, it shows that it's trying to connect to Javascript.

So I searched and read the posts on Java, mine is fully operational per the Java test site. I've also expanded the directory wording in Win Explorer folder options file types. I upgraded to IE6 but it did the same thing so I reverted to IE5.5. I've disabled ZoneAlarm and AdSubtract popup remover but the problem remains. Been at this for some time and can't find the missing solution. Any ideas?

Sorry for the double thread, I figured out this is a better place for help.
Okay so this morning, turned on my PC, everything fine, then a Windows Update started by itself (Im on Windows 7) I said alright, whatever. Then my PC rebooted and this is where everything ****ed up.
First, there was NO letters, all of the letters were replaced by boxes, but I fixed this so moving on.
Second, I keep getting missing DLL files errors that will NOT let me do anything! I can't even open apps (except for chrome and luckily MBAM), even CCLeaner won't open up, and CMD too, and Avast. No matter how many times I tried.
Tried system restoring many times, but it just says "System Restore Failed because of an error" I can't even do sfc /scannow command. Im freaking out because I had this PC for 3 years and all my family albums, files and photos are on this PC and I don't want to do a disk wipe. PLease help me!!!

Heya, I know that people have come across similar issues and I have looked through hundred of threads regarding each bit of software, but I now am thinking it is something for my case, stuffing everything up.

My PC is fairly new, I know it's not my hardware.

My problems I have are for instance with 3 pieces of software I have noticed so far.

1 - Skype Won't close or function properly after 2 minutes of running. I can't force it to close via task manager either.

2 - uTorrent has a similar issue, It won't even let me go into the program and it doesn't shut down by trying to force close it.

3 - Windows Media player also does the same thing, and I have an issue of sometime the requested file I try to play gives an error (requested file cannot be located on the server etc) and won't load WMP.

If it has been resolved or something similar, could someone just redirect me to a thread, it would be greatly appreciated.

I first realized that something was wrong when my browsers kept crashing. I tried both firefox and chrome and they had the same problem, so I uninstalled them and now I can't re-install them as I usually get errors. Also, I had to rename malwarebytes to get it working, but it didn't detect anything. Spybot also gave me a warning that it's files were modified when I tried to install it. Additionally, my startup task manager does not see anything out of the ordinary. I must admit that I used combofix on my own. I know I shouldn't but it usually fixes most of my computer problems. It was weird this time because I kept on getting "Application Corrupt" messages and it ended up deleting unwise.exe and some .tmp files. Thank you for reading this. Somehow I got got Opera to install, but every know and then it crashes. Unfortunately I can't get a GMER log because I end up getting the blue screen mid-scan.

A:Installations and Programs Don't Function Properly

Good evening.

I see two problems with your PC, and one is enough for me to come to a conclusion - you have no active anti-virus program installed, and so my recommendation is that you back-up any important files and then reformat and reinstall your operating system.

Without adequate security there is no real way to know what may have occurred on your system, legitimate files replaced or corrupted and system security settings lowered to make reinfection more likely in future, which leads me to think that attempting to repair the system isn't the best way forward.

Also, your Windows installation is now over three years old and that is the other issue that I have. Over time Windows naturally slows down as a result of installations/uninstallations and Windows updates and a fresh start is the only way to get the system back shiny new - I reinstall mine about every six months and I see a real difference.

If this was my PC that is what I would do and it is what I recommend that you do too.

It may be the dual boot, but it might be that your network card may be set to wake the computer, which is causing the computer to come out of hibernation.

Go to Device Manager and locate your network card, right click and choose Properties. Navigate to the Power Management tab and check to see that the "Allow this device to wake the computer" checkbox is unchecked, like mine:

Then try hibernation again.

I received many unwanted popups recently so I ran Spyware Terminator (ST) and found Shell (wuaucll.exe) in Unknown Software category. I searched internet and knew that It might be the cause for all the popups so I removed it using ST. However, after I restarted my computer, all the programs that used to load automatically didn't show up. When I tried to run a program, the 'Open With' applet will pop up and I had to choose it manually. But not all of the programs will run. Initially, Task Manager, explorer right-click menu and regedit were unable to function. But after using the Infiltration Recovery Tool to solve it, they managed to run.

However, I couldn't run System Restore to restore my computer back to previous settings as error message appeared as below:

Besides that, I also tried open System under Control Panel and this error popped up:

My modem (Siemens SpeedStream 4100) and router (Linksys WRT120) both function properly, but my desktop computer (HP-Pavillion Elite m9077c) won't connect to the internet. I never had a problem connecting up until a month ago, but since then, nothing. I know the modem and router function properly because all the wireless devices in our house (e.g., laptops, Wii, xbox) can still connect, and I can plug an ethernet cable into the router and the laptop and it connects. The device manager on the desktops says that the network adapter (Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit) and the wireless adaptor (USB wireless 802.11 b/g) are functioning properly.

According to your ipconfig the wireless connection should be online and should be working.

If you want the wireless to work instead you will need to unplug the Ethernet cable because Windows can't use two connections at once and will tend to choose the wired connection if both are being used.

You may also need to go into the routers setting and make sure the wireless settings have the correct security and encryption. You should also go into the wireless profile for this connection in Windows and make sure the settings match the ones being used in your router.

I have WinXP and have been trying to fix a graphics card driver problem, to no avail. I have visited Dell's website (my computer is an inspiron notebook E1705) and have not been able to find a driver that is compatible with my system. I have had the computer for over two years and just recently the driver started malfunctioning. I am not sure what I should do or whether I just need a new graphics card. If it helps, it says that I need a driver that is VGA compatible.
The symptoms are blue lines on the first two loading screens during start up and very slow scrolling speed.
Just wondering what I should do and where I could find a proper driver?

Hi Everyone

I have some problems with a trojan horse virus called generic.dx!qhq (at least thats what i think is the problem). Here is what happend:

Several days ago I got a virus alert by McAfee. McAfee removed the Threat but after rebooting my pc it turns off right when windows (XP) is about to start up. So I turned it into safe mode and then it says "laoding file sptd.sys" and the pc shuts down again. If I press escape during loading the pc starts up in safe mode. I re-run the virsuscan and nothing was found. So I rebooted and pressed f8 at the beginning and then turned on what we call in dutch "fout opsporingsmodus" which is litterly translated in english "error tracking mode". Then all of a sudden it starts up windows and I can use all things in the normal way (internet, printer device etc.) When I'm on my desktop McAfee keeps on telling me 2 things:

1. Trojan horse deleted named "Generic.dx!qhq" in path c:\windows\temp\hmnf.temp\svchost.exe (the path is different sometimes)

2. Bufferlimit is stopped from exceeding itself in Iexplorer.exe

I have no idea how to solve this even after trying for 2 days. If i run Hijackthis i get the following log:

Firefox will not let me connect to certain sites - it says they are unsecure even though there is no way that suddenly 5 or more sites a day are unsecure and one is my bank which I am certain is secure.   This started happening suddenly about a month ago.   Sometimes it LETS ME add an exception - I must agree that I know I should have my head examined for questioning their judgment so if my computer blows up its not their fault.   SOMETIMES it doesn't give me the "Add an exception" option so basically its YOU'RE NOT GETTING ON THAT SITE PERIOD.
So I downloaded Chrome - that won't work because I have two email addresses one is Gmail and one is aol.   It won't let me log on to aol - it keeps telling me I have the wrong password.    At sign in it doesn't list my name followed with the @aol.com which seems to be the problem   it just has the name of my account minus the @aol -    If I type in the name with @aol it reverts to the name on w/o the aol so I cannot access my email.
I downloaded Opera but it keeps telling me I have cookies disabled but I don't and then it says I must clear my cache and all sorts of other crap.
IS THERE A BROWSER I CAN SIGN ONTO THAT WORKS?    I'm really frustrated as using my computer feels like an obstacle course to see if I can get around all the barriers the browsers throw up.

A:Recommend a browser? None function properly they all have flaws I can't fix

Seems you may have others issues if all Browsers dont function they way you would expect them to.
Or Something Blocking them , another Addon or Program ?
Or try logins from another PC and see if any issues still arise.
Otherwise Uninstall all those Browsers and then try Reinstalling Chrome again.
Handy if you Know for sure all Usernames and Passwords Correctly - Write them down and secure safely.
I prefer and use Maxthon Browser   http://www.maxthon.com/  you can try it if others fail.

I installed SP1 last evening with no issues what so ever, but now today when I am using my computer I am not able to double click on anything in windows explorer.

When I try and open a drive or a folder I get the message there is no default program associated with this type of file, please go to control panel bla bla bla...

The wierd thing is that I am able to right click and open or explore, but I guess I will have to try and uninstall and reinstall SP1. Anybody else having issues like this?

Yesterday the sleep function on my E560 began to behave strangely. I pressed the round power button on the upper right hand side of my keyboard, which doubles as the sleep button, and the computer didn't go into sleep mode immediately (which would be indicated by the red light in the letter "i" in "ThinkPad" slowly blinking on and off). Instead, the screen turned black and then the fan made a loud blowing noise before the computer went into sleep mode. When I pressed the power/sleep button again to wake up the computer, the screen remained black for 5-10 seconds before it came on.  Normally, it would come on immediately. Prior to yesterday, the sleep function worked normally.  What happened?

I recently installed a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card into my Dimension 2400 desktop computer which runs Windows XP 32-bit OS. I bought this card for it's S-video capability so I can stream Netflix (or any other video) to my TV screen (which I used to do with my laptop, but it died - another story haha). I installed the card and downloaded the latest driver to my computer from the NVIDIA website (version 196.21 to be exact). I then turned off my computer, and plugged in the provided s-video cable to the back of my desktop, and connected it to a radio shack s-video to RCA (the yellow video connector for most TV's) converter and plugged it into my TV (which NVIDIA says shouldn't be a problem). I then followed the online instructions from NVIDIA on "Connecting a video card to a TV and enabling TV output". This included using the "Run television setup wizard" on the NVIDIA Control Panel. Upon following the prompts for the setup wizard I am taken to the first screen which says welcome and click next....so I do. It then takes me to the next screen so I can choose which display mode so I choose "DualView". Then it takes me to a preview screen and on my TV I see two halves of my desktop background swapped (the left is on the right and the right is on the left with a big black strip down the middle) and it is in black and white. So I go to the "Change resolution" setting on the NVIDIA control panel and try to change things arou... Read more

okay at first i thought this was a mild issue but apparently not only my desktop is missing, my control panel is missing too. on top of that i'm no longer getting sound from my speaker.

I'm using a Windows 8 on an SSD.

What Happened?
I tried to remove my portable harddrive safely. Then something went wrong with my Local Drive C it seems. A pop-up message saying, "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Check to to make sure the disk is properly inserted."

1) system32\config\systemprofile\desktop went missing.
2) Can't search a lot of stuff e.g. Control Panel using Window key+F anymore
3) No sound
4) Startup app doesn't start up automatically even when i have it enabled on Task Manager

What Have I Tried?
1) Copied Desktop folder (empty inside) from my user folder and pasted it in C:\Windows\....\systemprofile folder. That didn't help the case that much either because whenever I start login into my user account I wouldn't able to go to desktop by pressing the Windows key or click on the top left of the Start Menu of Windows 8. Only Window key+D would work. Right clicking the bottom left doesn't bring up a list of stuff including "Control Panel"
2) Automatically repaired but failed
3) Did an sfc/scannow but it said, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

now i'm hoping tha... Read more

Was your SSD drive shown in the list of "safely remove" hardware?
You may have accidentally selected your OS drive during the removal process.
Disconnect the SSD and boot, shut down, then reconnect the SSD, reboot, hopefully it will be shown in the list again.

I've never seen anything like this. Okay, here's the system rundown --- Running win 7 pro sp1 64 bit on a Dell xps 8000. Replaced hard drive one month ago, and I've used Seagate's diagnostic tool to check out hard drive, which didn't find any errors with the hard drive.

So, here's problem 1:
Computer was running great up until four days ago. It wouldn't wake up out of sleep properly. It would freeze. I would have to reboot to wake it up. It won't even let me LOG OFF correctly because when I go to log back on, I don't get the prompt to choose the user or enter my password. When I reboot --- that I can only do by shutting on and off the power, it's fine. The computer starts up fine in SAFE MODE, so I'm not detecting any issues there.

Problem 2:
Internet explorer 10 (got it with one of the updates two weeks ago) simply would HANG and not open. Even with I would click it once and open task manager to see what was happening, it showed multiple instances of explorer open. So, what I did was turn OFF Explorer 10 in the "turn windows features on or off" section. But when I when to turn them back on to see if it would reset, I not only lost the default windows icons from the start bar, Explorer refused to initialize when I tried to start it from "Programs" or from clicking the explorer.exe icon in both Programs (64 bit) and Programs (x86).

To this point I've done the full scan disk, and also run SCAN NOW. I also have anti malware software ... Read more

I do not know why System Restore in my Windows Vista Home Basic system is not functioning properly. This means that I can not use System Restore because it is not working. I want to create a restore point on my computer before I try to install third-party visual themes on my computer.

The error says:

What does this error mean? How can you fix it? What is the event log, and how can you view it? Can anyone help me and answer my questions?

Suddenly, I can't open an Adobe Acrobat file attachment to an e-mail or open a pdf saved file. I have uninstalled and downloaded Acrobat Reader numerous times (disabling Pop-up blocker and Norton anti-virus) when doing so.

The Acrobat 6.0 icon appears in "Programs" and on my desk-top. When I try to open a file the Acrobat 6.0 logo appears with a large hour glass, but never opens. When I click Control/Alt/Delete, a pattern about 5 inches square appears on the screen, and can only be gotten rid of by rebooting. When I go to turn off and reboot, an "End Program--Font Capture" window appears and blue horizontal line runs; I then click "End Now" and CP reboots.

The I have the problem all over again.

I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer.

Many thanks for your help.
