I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Has anyone found a way to successfully install intel wi-di on a t420 or t430 running windows 10? I have tried many driver combinations without success. From what I have read it seems that these machines used intel?s proprietary tech for wireless displays where the current gen is just miracast rebranded. Its seems intel is no longer developing for new operating systems for 4-year-old hardware.

Hy!I've used my Thinkpad T420 battery charge mode with custom settings: Start charging when below 95% and Stop charging at 99%. Because the battery effectively has never charged full, it cause sudden capacity decreases (for example from 30% discharging to 7%). I got bored to this and changed to automatically optimize battery lifespan. I noticed that every full charge the "Full charge capacity" value decreases. I have charged it 5 times after this settings, and the remaining capacity looks like this: 57.10Wh, 57.05Wh, 57.00Wh, 56.95Wh, 56.85Wh. Is it normal? Is it possible that this setting will kill my battery?

I just bought a refurbished ThinkPad T420. A friend of mine said it had a good spec so I was looking forward to having a play around. Right from the minute I switched it on there was a problem. The touchpad and mouse are not working. The only way to use the mouse is via the track point (is that the right term?) and I hate it! It's way too fiddly. So I tried fn and F8... it doesn't work. I've tried rebooting and enabling the touchpad in the BIOS it doesn't work. I've deleted drivers. Still nothing. I've installed new drivers. Many tutorials say you can fix it using device manager, mouse etc. But the tab the recommend you choose is not there. I installed new drivers from synaptics and it says there is no synsptics device found. I am honestly going insane! Something that should be so simple and it's so awkward! Forgive me because I'm half asleep but I should mention when I first tried to fix it the tab in mouse properties that everyone says I should use (ultra something) well it was there. But when I tried to click any of the options on that tab I was kicked out and got an error messsge. Now that tab no longer appears. It's running on windows 10. I'm ready for launching it out the window. Help!

I upgraded to Win 10 via Windows update.  All went well, everything worked fine, but I did later find out that Lenovo isn't supporting T420 with driver updates for Win 10.  While Windows 10 was still installed, I looked at the driver support page for the T420, Win 10 is not listed as an option in the drop down of OSs.  Accepting this, and not wanting to run into problems later down the road with future Win 10 updates, I rolled back to Win 7Pro.  Now I don't think I have a straight answer on whether the T420 actually is supported under Win 10 or not.  The first thing I did after rolling back was to go to the Lenovo driver support page.  Now it shows windows 10 in the drop down as a supported OS.  What's up with that?  I've looked in the forums and elswhere online and every indication is that the T320 is not officually supported.  Lenovo does not list it as supported.  But yet now Windows 10 drivers are listed for the T420, but only when I'm running Windows 7Pro, not when I'm running Windows 10.  I'm assuming that the website is autodetecting my current OS.  I can't make heads or tails of it.  I'd like to go back to Windows 10, but given the confilcing info from Lenovo...Anyone have any suggestions.

Something absolubtely bizarre is happening with my mouse, and despite my efforts, I can't find any posts on google that match my issue.

About a month ago I spilled some coffee on my laptop. The laptop's built in mouse buttons stopped working shortly afterwards. I took my computer into the repair shop and had them install a brand new touchpad and mouse button set. Everything worked fine up until a couple of days ago.

First, my left click stopped working (on the laptop track pad). The next day, the right click stopped working. I could still left click using the touch pad and right click via Shift + F10. The following day I could no longer left click using the touchpad. I brought home a USB mouse today and plugged it in. The USB mouse worked great for a couple of hours, and then started failing. It will select some objects, and not others. It will left click for a few minutes, and then stop working all together. It will allow me to open new tabs in a brower, but not select other open tabs or the bar where you enter web addresses. It won't select anything off the task bar, including the windows start menu.

So far, I have uninstalled the computer's mouse drivers and re-installed them. I've rebooted several times. I've tried turning on the functionality that allows you to use your keyboard as a mouse, but that didn't work. I've tried different USB ports for the external mouse. I downloaded Lenovo's Solution Center tool and analyzed a... Read more

Hello, all.My T420 audio system has worked perfectly for years. But, starting in January 2018 the microphone mutes itself, no matter what I do with its settings. Sometimes the muting happens in a few seconds, sometimes after a few minutes. I can watch it happen in the microphone levels window. I suspect a Windows update or new version of Skype caused the problem. I have been unable to fic it. Neither Malwarebytes nor any Windows security scanning software see any issues. This is especially aggravating since I'm a software engineer used to fixing bugs. (Yes, I've watched the YouTube videos about this problem, to no avail.) Anybody have a fix for this?Cheers,Dave

My laptop LCD has been out for awhile and I've been using with an external monitor, but I decided to fix the LCD so I ordered a new LCD screen for it. The lcd screen arrives, install it and picture still doesn't show up. I then thought maybe I just had a bad cable from motherboard to LCD so I replaced that.. still no luck.

I can see a faint image in the background, but it's very dark. Same with my original screen.

What's odd is before my original laptop would show a just scrambled picture of black and white-- which is why I originally thought it was LCD.

What would the next step be? To order a inverter? Do the symptoms above sound like it's a bad inverter?

Hello! I have a Thinkpad T420 with Windows 7. When I try to update my Intel Graphics HD driver (version 8.15.10.2538) to the one from the Lenovo support website (version 9.17.10.3347), I get the error message "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." The Intel page tells me that I either have the wrong driver (which should not be the issue because I got it from the Lenovo driver support page) or OS version (I went ahead and tried both the 32 and 64 bit driver, to no avail) or that I do not have Intel Graphics (but I do). Is my processor simply not supported by the current update anymore? I have an Intel Core i5-2520M. Or does it maybe have issues with my NVIDIA graphics card?

For a few years I have been working with an HP Elitebook 8460p to which I connected an external drive, a Western Digital Element 2042. Working just fine. A few months ago I purchased a Thinkpad T420 and I thought that connecting the external drive would be a piece of cake but unfortunately no. So far I have been been enable to do so and I can't figure out why. When booting the drive doesn't show up in the drive's list.
I have been trying just about each port on my Thinkpad and none worked, the actual cable and port seem to work as the light at the back of the drive are on.

I know for a fact that the drive works, I just fired off my HP Elitebook 8460p again to make sure it was indeed still alive and it is fine. I can see it on my HP's boot menu and in the HP's disk management details. But not on my Thinkpad T420.

I used an enclosure with another drive to make sure the USB ports on my Thinkpad T420 are ok and this works fine. I also changed the drive's letters.

If the ports on the Thinkpad is fine if the external drive is fine, why then my external drive is not recognized by my T420 thru the USB port ?

This is the external drive's information as they are shown on the HP

A:Thinkpad T420 does not recognize external drive

It is probably just not getting a drive letter and you need to give it one are after initializing it. Does disk management see it?

N00b here. Installed Linux Mint on my lenovo thinkpad T420 a few weeks ago but could not boot into Linux. Eventually tried using Rescataux Beta on a usb. First I used the easy UEFI repair, which didn't work, so next I tried boot-repair. This worked, I could get into the OS. However, now I can't get into the bios, it just displays a black screen when I press F1 during loading. I tried doing a bios update, which appeared to go fine, but this didn't resolve the problem. I have no idea about what boot-repair does so I don't know where to look for a fix. Before I did boot-repair, I could get into BIOS but not Linux, afterwards, I could get into Linux but not into BIOS. Based on other posts, I've taken out the battery, and held the power button down for 30 seconds, and I've also sent @someotherguy a PM as I've seen suggested in other posts, but had no response.   # dmidecode 3.0

HiT420 upgraded to Win 10 and 8MB RAM installed. When I go to Shop/support/Tech Support (update drivers etc); detect my product, it comes up with the 'old' stuff ie Windows 7 64bit and the old 2MB RAM etc.  This is causing me great confusion because I am unsure about downloading updates that do not reflect my current setup with Win 10, 8MB RAM etc. Someone (from Microsoft Community) who knows more about this than me suggests the following: and I quote: "According to the screenshots, and just as you've initially stated, it shows that your system is being detected as Windows 7.  However, this will also show if the machine was manufactured originally with a Windows 7 installed.  This would mean that the specifics of the machine on the serve page is not being detected, or it does not need to detect the machine at all.  If this perception is correct, what shows up is the default or how the manufacturer produced their machine.  Perhaps, for a reason that the machine was manufactured before the launch of Windows 10. It would be the best idea to contact the manufacture about downloading the drivers that will be compatible with Windows 10, and to suggest them that an update on their page will be helpful for the users." Additionally:- Service Bridge is running on my machine.Solution Centre reports no alerts.Lenovo System Update Centre reports no updates found.Windows updates are functioning n... Welcome to Lenovo Community!

What you can do is uninstall all the Bluetooth application and drivers which you have installed currently and then download and install ThinkVantage system update utility. After the installation restart the system and run the application, this will search for the entire required latest driver for your system.

Hope this helps.

Plug in your flash drive.  Enter Bios and go to the Startup->Boot section. Check if Usb Hdd is excluded from booting (lower part of the screen). If it is excluded, highlight it and press "X". Press F10 to save and exit. Press F12 and it should appear now as an option.

I then powered it on again but it displayed the thinkpad logo and the next screen was just black with a blinking underscore in the corner. I downloaded a diagnostic program to a usb and ran it. I bought a used IBM Thinkpad T20 Thinkpad Type 2647-92U from eBay for use this semester on campus. It is in great shape and has a recent edition of Windows XP but an older version of MS Office which does not boot properly.

This computer was a part of a network and keeps trying to connect to it each time Windows loads. It came with a LinkSys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter 2.4 GHz 802.11g card.

The CD is an official copy; clean and has no scratches or nicks. The DVD/CD-ROM will boot other CD's such as music CD's and DVD films and data discs with MS Word files etc on them.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yours,

Kyklopes

That T-20 is pretty long in the tooth. I suspect your optical drive either needs cleaning, or is worn beyond repair.
Did you try the CD in another drive as a double check?

T430 fails to read hard drive or hangs up on startup when the battery is installed.  Typically will start on AC without the battery installed, but still hangs up intermittently  Was working fine until after multiple rapid power outages during a storm. Any ideas? OS is Windows 10 Thanks in advance!

You might have damaged the power circuitry on the motherboard.  If that is the case, the only solution is to replace the board.  There is an array of power transistors that handles the switching back and forth between AC and battery.

Hi there, I have an IBM Thinkpad 360 with Windows xp. When I turn it on it gives the following error message; Warning: IRQ not configured - PCI Bus : 00 Device : 0a Function : 00.

I went into the configuration and reset everything to default and when I turn it on it starts to load Windows and then the screen just goes black and I can only see the mouse arrow.

Can anyone help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi all!

I've got a problem with my IBM ThinkPad: it simply won't start up. Here's what usually happens:

IBM ThinkPad startup screen ("To interrupt normal startup press the blue Access IBM button")
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this [none made in the recent past]... [Options:]Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally

Choosing any option leads to: Windows XP "loading" screen with blue loading bar
"A problem has been detected and Windows has to shut down..." Blue Screen of Death
Process repeated with IBM startup page
Any help would be greatly appreciated; I have many important files stored in my laptop. :)

From the look of it you can try an xp repair or slave the drive to a another machine and get the files off and do a fresh install.

Personally I'd slave your drive to another machine and get the files off it before you do anything else.

Did see a fix in another thread for a similar issue, slave the drive and then run chkdsk on it.

Then I'd personally reinstall windows.

I just installed a wireless G card into my T20 and had no problems surfing the net with it. When I put the system into standby mode and closed the lid, the laptop started beeping and would only stop after I ejected the DVDrom drive.

It won't start up now and keeps beeping if I try to re-insert the DVDrom drive. I've never encountered this before.. does this have anything to do with the newly installed pcmcia card?

Please help!!

Thanks

it may be a compatibility error... try removing the pcmcia card. go into windows and uninstall it...

Hi all, I have a question about my Thinkpad P51 (20hh0014rt). The system is pretty quiet at all, but I found that CPU fan (the right one) produce some kind of odd sound when it start to spin: I hear it like some quiet sneeze, or something like loud "Pffffff".I attached audio example and also here is the Clyp link. Phisically it looks like the fan start to spin at full speed and immediately slow down to lower speed. Could some of P51 owners or may be Lenovo guys tell me if this is a normal behaviour for this system or I have a problem? Thanks!

After updating Windows 10 to the newest version today,And updating to the newest BIOS version using Lenovo System Updatemy Thinkpad X1 (4th gen) won't startup by opening the lid, like it used to.Lenovo Support says they can't help me. Going into stand-by and waking up by closing and opening the lid works fine. What doesn't work is powering up the Thinkpad (after shutdown) by opening the lid. Any ideas?

I am 68 retired, no colleagues that can help and not a skilled enough to figure out what is an unnecessary start up service. I have a windows 7 professional Thinkpad x220. 4G RAM I-5 2nd generation processor. The start up takes about 2 minutes.

One thing I knew I did not need in start up was Bluetooth, to extend battery life. I removed it form start up and from Services in msconfig. For some reason the bluetooth light on the Thinkpad remains lit up.alongside the wifi light.

I have no idea how to make a copy of the Start Up list that I can send in order to get advice on what can be disabled.
Any help in this regard would be appreciated
