Long chain of problems leads to a corrupted SSD

Q: Long chain of problems leads to a corrupted SSD

Hey so I've been having major problems with my windows 10 desktop

Basically, my story starts off with a sudden crash caused by (I think) an overheating gpu whilst playing a casual game of civilisation V.
My desktop is an ACER AME600-EB398 supporting some no-name motherboard (acer inc. ipimb-ar), an Intel i7 3770 which is pretty good, a measely 300W of continuous power, a 2TB hard drive, a 16Gb SSD containing only Windows 10, an optical drive and a Nvidia GT630.

The crash lead to a blue screen with an error code 0xc000014c which I was able to fix, with massive difficulty, thanks to a boot drive that I create using the laptop I am currently using. The reason why I did not simply use a Windows recovery disk is because windows 8 came preinstalled on my computer, and of course I did not have a windows 10 cd. After repairing the blue screen and entering my computer, there were some major problems such as my inability to open the windows search or the inability to open certain apps. I was then doing some research on how to repair the problems when an error message popped up saying "Windows detected a hard dive problem", I then concluded that, based off of the blue screen crash, the instruction page given to me by Windows accompanying the error message (which I will add below), and the newly found difficulties, windows (and thus my SSD containing windows) was severely corrupted.

I then decided to try and repair the SSD with the aid of the internet, suggesting that I try to repair it using a windows Recover Disk (which I do not possess), the command prompt function ChkDsk, or a windows boot drive requiring a windows recovery code (which I also do not possess but I could find IF i had the ability to open the app ProduKey which would allow me to extract the key and Factory Reset my computer and then reinstalling windows with the help of the product key).
I decided to use the Chkdsk command. At first, I ran it in read-only mode where it encountered a few problems with my computer which it cannot repair in read-only mode. Then, I ran it using /r /f /v and /b which I read might take a lot of time, which is something I have, and works very efficiently to repair corrupted drives.
After letting the repair run for ~8 hours, whilst it was stuck at 10% which I read is normal, my desktop just crashed. Unfortunately I was not present to notice what happened, but when I turned my computer back on, my monitor does not respond and says "No Signal" as if the desktop is not on.

And that let me here, to this forum, where I saw similar, but different threads and I have come to seek help in this hopeless d: journey

BTW, I've also recently bought a Corsair CX500 power supply which provides 500W of continuous power in order to compensate for my new MSI GeForce GTX970 which I was planning on installing in my desktop.

TL;DR My monitor does not respond to my desktop and only displays a black screen when I turn it on as if it's not connected at all ("No Signal")

Thanks for you help :D

Preferred Solution: Long chain of problems leads to a corrupted SSD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, I didn't know where to put this as this is my first post so bare with me.

About 3 months ago, I got a "new" computer from my dad who had just did a re-installation of Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit. It was working great until I got a virus. I ran CCleaner as well as Spybot S&D but no immediate threats were found. The C drive took a turn for the worst and my computer started freezing frequently every time I would use it, so I would manually shut down (This is a desktop computer) and then reboot and everything would be fine until it froze again. That's around the time when my computer started asking me if I wanted to check my disk, but I declined for the first few times, then finally gave up because my computer was pretty much in the toilet. It could still boot up, but the freezing became so bad that I didn't want to use it.

That's when my computer started going straight to startup repair. That started freezing as well, too, so I thought, "Forget this, I'm going to manually check my recovery options." and then had to deal with the C partition not even being recognized and a cyclic redundancy check and my computer yelling at me and saying that my .NET Framework was missing a file. I searched "Infinite Startup Repair Loop" and tried to fix it in the command prompt, but that was a cyclic redundancy check as well.

I left it alone for a while, maybe a few weeks, and then it magically started working again. The C drive was still... Read more

Crikey! You've thrashed your system a bit eh? Yes, you need a fresh install.

First thing is first, your Sims : download this Debian distribution to a CD/USB. Boot from it, and then see if you can use the file browser to locate and copy your Sims stuff to an external USB drive. If not, accept defeat and move on.

Hello peeps

My next project is quite interesting. Put simply I'll need an Access 2003 DB to let me:

1. Create a new "Project" in the database, giving it a title

2. Asscociate the project with a customer (or add a customer and then associate with the project).

3. ALSO associate any number of additional remote locations (other offices) with this project

4. For each office, add data to a list that details the office specification (floors. rooms, sizes, capacity, windows etc
I see this as a heirarchy database that has many dozens of projects, a larger number of customers and an even larger number of offices.

What would the best structure be to develop this database in A2003? What is the best way to organise the relationships for the core tables which I think will be "Projects", "Customers", "Offices", "Details".

Looking forward to interesting feedback to set me on my way chaps!

Hey everyone!

I'm new here and I was hoping someone can help me with my problem. I'm running windows xp pro and all of a sudden, it wouldn't boot up anymore. BSOD came up saying there was a corrupted registry file. I used another hard drive to access this drive and replaced some files in my system32/ config with some older ones from my repair folder from the windows folder. Some of my programs will not work now and I can't find the latest system restore point. I don't think I had one. The newer file's dates were somewhere in January while the older ones were some where in November and a lot has changed since then. Is this the cause of my programs not working? How can i fix this? If you feel that I'm not giving enough information, please ask.
Thanks a lot!

Hello, I've been having a chain of problems with my computer, for a few months now, and I still can't find their source.

It started after the internet was down for a few days. I suddenly couldn't download anything, because all downloads over 1mb would stuck at ~97%. If I paused, and resumed them, they'd complete, but the file would end up being corrupted. And it's not just browser downloads. It was the same for all ingame, java, or driver updates. Any kind of pictures, that were taking longer than instant to load, would get distorted (example: http://puu.sh/afhP2/d9c3504bc1.jpg) , and in some pages, I ended up with part of open code http://puu.sh/aqz8U/8e11e66328.png. Most pages would never load at all, or give me this error http://puu.sh/aqzaL/d3dc2474ed.png, unless I refreshed it like 3-4 times. Strangely, Youtube, and other Google websites, and downloads on Skype and uTorrent, seemed to be unaffected. I tried running various anti-viruses, and reinstalled my browsers, but nothing helped, so I assumed, it's an internet problem.

But now, I've changed my internet to 7x faster one, and moved to a whole other country. Loading problems seem to be gone (except gifs that are longer than a few seconds, still won't load), but downloading problems still remain.

Therefore, I decided to reinstall my Windows 7 (first time by myself, so I might not know something obvious), but there's another problem. I've set CD-ROM as the primary boot device, and even selected to boot it manually (... Read more

OK so I ran my scheduled virus scan, then went to sleep. I wake up the next morning, turn on my PC and find an error message on the screen, telling me that NTVDM could not be found, press any key to restart. By pressing any key, the message would just repeat itself on the next line.
So I go on Google on my Wii Browser and look up the problem. Apparently my virus scanner deleted an infected file (NTVDM) and now my PC won't start. I would either have to make a boot diskette, which I realized wouldn't work due to the fact that my PC doesn't have a floppy disk drive, or find my Windows XP Boot Disk.
So I look around the house for awhile, only to conclude that I could not find my Windows XP Boot Disk. I call my friend and ask him if he has a Windows XP Professional CD, and to my surprise, he does. So he lends it to me, I start up the setup of it in DOS mode, and I select to repair the C: (or reinstall it, but not reformat it). I recieve a message telling me that it can't repair it and for me to select another drive, so I select my other part of my harddrive, the D:, which is just a partitioned part.
Apparently, it installed Windows XP Professional onto that part of that harddrive. Now it's asking me for my CD Key, which I cannot find, so I have only 30 days before this Windows XP expires. On top of that, I cannot access my original C:, but only my D:, which is now known as my C:. Unfortunately, all my work is saved on my other part of the drive.

REFURBISHED (received this past Wednesday) LATITUDE E7450, I5 5300; WIN 10 8GB RAM 256 GB;
I thought I set things up correctly.
I can not adjust the first external u2415 monitor to DP1.2 'enabled'
When I try (with e7450 connected to first monitor and first monitor connected to second monitor), I get a pop up on the first monitor that I need to click on CONFIRM TO ALLOW THE CHANGE FROM DP 1.2 NOT ABLE TO "DP 1.2 ENABLED".
There is no way my cursor will allow that as the cursor is shadowed on the first monitor, and moves about,
Latitude E7450 rear mDP OUT --> mDP to DP cable -->
#1 U2415 DP IN (DP 1.2 Enabled)
#1 U2415 DP OUT  -- > DP to mDP cable -->
 #2 U2415 mDP IN (DP 1.2 Disabled)

Besides doing it again, are there any further (very specific) instructions suggested?

I thought I updated all drivers and bios.

The e7450 is connected to DELL driver auto update link.

So I had my computer defragged yesterday, and it must have removed a program that ran with my keyboard. The way my keyboard works is that it has buttons that can control the volume of my speakers. After I defragged it , the controls would not work. When I go into control panel, audio options; it says there is no audio device. There is also no way to mute my speakers other than to unplug them (that I know of).

The keyboard is a compaq, and I have stock Emachine speakers, with Windows XP.

Hey all,
Recently, my Flash Player was not working properly after installing IE9 (I could only hear sound, but the video worked if I was lucky enough to find the fullscreen button). Anyways, that's the least of my worries now, because I did a system restore back to January and now I am experiencing a whole new set of problems.

1. When Windows starts, I get an error message saying "Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location."

2. I have Avast antivirus, and when I try to turn the security on, it tells me "Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened"

3. Even though I am connected to the internet, there is a red X through my WiFi bars at the bottom right of my screen.

4. For whatever reason, I cannot enter the "Uninstall a Program" menu within Control Panel.

I'm sure there are more problems I haven't discovered yet. Please help me Tech Guys! Thanks.

Oh yes, I tried to do a second System Restore to an August 2011 date, and it was unsuccessful. Something about the possibility of my antivirus program interfering, but I have disabled Avast, and attempted to System Restore several times, all being unsuccessful. I'm afraid I've dug myself into a hole now because the restore points have dwindled to just a couple choices.

Hey folks, thanks for letting me use your forums.

Here is my situation; A few weeks ago, my USB mouse randomly stopped responding. This ususally occured right at start up, where it would never respond to begin with. Most of the time, I could reboot and have the mouse work again.

Then, more recently, I would shut the computer down, and not be able to turn it on (in other words, I hit the power button, and all I get is the click of the button...the computer doesn't respond). My motherboard light is on, but the PSU is making a weird noise when just being plugged in.

The best I can describe this noise is a high pitched hissing...it sounds almost as if air is moving inside the Power Supply Unit.

I don't mind replacing a part, but I want to make sure which one is the culprit. The only other thing that I could think of is the motherboard..

Does anyone know a good way to diagnose a motherboard or Power Supply Unit failure if the computer can't even turn on? What do you guys think?

Thanks again

Problems are on my laptop I just picked up. It is a used HP DV6000 running Vista Home Premium 32

Guess I'll start with the data execution protection. This was giving me all sorts of problems. The example I'll use, even though there were a lot more instances, is trying to view an enlarged picture in an Ebay auction. I couldn't do it without DEP stopping it. I looked up the fix for this and shut DEP down, and now instead of DEP stopping it, Internet Explorer shuts it down. It tells me internet explorer stopped working and won't allow me to open it up. Greetings. This is my first post, and I hope you'll not take it the wrong way if I hope for it to be the last!

The other day, my Win 7 computer crashed big time. I rebooted it, and I've had to do assorted cleaning up operations on it to get it to work properly. This included going back to a previous System Restore point, resetting the Winsock catalogue, and resetting the TCP/IP stack. And reinstalling Google Chrome! Everything "network-y" that I expect to work now works correctly (e.g. WS_FTP, Chrome/Firefox/IE, etc) - all except Skype.

As soon as Skype goes online, my default browser (which happens to be Chrome) pops up and opens up a squillion and one tabs with long URLs consisiting solely of numbers. My DNS is through OpenDNS, and every one of those tabs comes back with a "blocked" message, and OpenDNS now thinks that I have a malware bot attack (which I don't - I've checked!)

The system carries on opening up tabs in Chrome until (after many false starts since the browser window always comes to the front for each new tab) I quit Skype, when it all stops. So Skype is the problem application, but what I am not clear about is whether or not it is Skype or something still sitting in Windows somewhere. On the off-chance that it can be fixed by a simple reset like the winsock catalogue, I'm posting here (as well as on Skype forums!) in the hope that your combined wisdom can help!

I've uninstalled Skype. Then I&... Read more

I had an infection that lead to the "proxy server" error message when trying to use the internet. I was able to get rid of it by using Malwarebytes, with the full scan taking more than usual (about 40 mins). Once restarted, however, my PC started acting suspicious. Some programs will not start, explorer.exe is very sluggish, and I'm getting the " unable to execute file in the temporary directory error 5" error.

I have an fc digital key chain. When I first got it, it worked fine. It took the pictures from "my pictures" file fine. It loaded them fine. Now, I've added a lot more pictures into my laptop, but the key chain still has the same pictures stored in it, and I cant down load any new pictures from my laptop into it. I've pushed the reset button, but it doesn't help. The same old pictures appear. How do I get new pictures from my lap top into the keychain software ? HELP.

So one of the applications I frequently use stopped working and said it's because it no longer supports the version of Internet Explorer that I have(IE 7). So I go to update to IE 9 and when I do IE says that IE 9 is not compatible with my OS (Vista Home Basic 32 bit). And so I'm at an in-pass. Every time I try to look for what I need to update to IE 9 It just takes my back to the screen where you download IE 9. What exactly do I have to do?

The known problems i am facing right now involved a corrupt explorer.exe Everytime i start my computer this dialog box would show "The File or directory C:/windows/system32/ddeeg.ini2 is corrupted and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility. I have run the utility many times but it always close itself before it can finish the 3 stages. Sometiimes nothing would show up because of the message(as in no explorer and control alt delete also doesnt work). I would had to force shutdown.....

Also when my computer does start and i go to task manager i see multiple "iexplore.exe" running with me starting IE.
I also have alot of system slowdown.

Right now the biggest frustration is the scary fact that many times nothing would happen when i start my computer. PLZ HELP!
Also anything i start IE i seem to be inviting in more malwares as strange program start to run in task manager.

I Have been having problems with a computer I repaired, It was much like the problem in http://forums.techguy.org/t229555&highlight=corrupted+registry.html I tried to repair the registry hive but he had turned his system restore off and was unable to finish the last step. So I reinstalled windows and installed all the updates etc. He has since installed Office and a few other common programs but nothing out of the ordanary.

He has just phoned and said he has the same problem again. It worked ok yesterday and all he was doing was internet and checking E-Mails. It turned off ok, But he turned it on today and he got the "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM".

Any Ideas on what could be causing this??

I have an SMC broadband router, SMC2804WBRP-G, connected to my cable connection. I have 3 computers hardwired to the router. In one room I would like to split that connection using a Belkin broadband router, F5D6230-3. However, I cannot get a recognized connection to the computer hooked to the Belkin. I know it is entirely about the fact that both routers have an IP address of but there is no vendor supplied information, that I can find, on what has to be changed configuration wise to the routers.

Does anyone know how to change the configurations to accommplish this?

It has been asked some five times on these forums.. Please search.

Also, you would be much better off just buying a simple ethernet switch and using that instead of the second router.

I need help setting up a home network. Everything is set for sharing, computers are connected and everything but we run on two routers, a wireless one with 4 plug in spots, and just a normal router witrh 4 plug ins.

Computers: Basement (plugged into wireless), Laptop (wireless laptop), Kitchen (plugged into wireless), Bedroom (plugged into non-wireless router).

Router Config:
Non-Wireless: Incoming signal, outputs to Bedroom and outputs to wireless router.
Wireless: Incoming signal comes from the non-wireless as stated above, other computers use this.

Bedroom is plugged into the non wireless because when plugged into the wireless router it loses connection every 5 minutes or so, the only computer that has this problem. Basement, Kitchen, and Laptop all have a shared folder (Z:/basement/shared) but Bedroom cannot map this folder.

Windows XP, SP 3 except Laptop is Vista Home Basic.

I just want to get the shared folder on Bedroom! (And maybe share printers too.)

Anything else you guys need?

A:Home Network Chain Help

First; the wiring should look like;

modem ---(wan)WiredRouter(lan) ----(lan)WirelessRouter

The wireless router should have nothing in the WAN port and the DHCP service on it

If true, the all systems will have the same three numbers when viewing /ipconfig
eg 192.168.1.x

The workgroup name must be the same on all systems.

When all that is set correctly, what happens when you try to Map Z:\basement\shared?

Interesting setup here, I can't find anyone who's doing the exact same thing.

My reasons are numerous, but this is how I've figured out that my setup has to be to get the config I need.

Router 1 (WNDR3400) - DD-WRT
Router 2 (Netgear R7000) - kongac build 25090

Computer -> Router 1 [wireless disabled, DHCP enabled]
Router 1 -> Router 2 [LAN-to-LAN, wireless enabled, DHCP disabled]

Internet, router access etc. works fine in the chain so far, seems perfect. However, I am trying to run OpenVPN (PIA) within Router 2. I have done this many times with success, and I am sure the router is configured correctly for VPN.

The catch is that... previously running ONLY Router 2, the VPN setup worked fine. When I daisy chain the routers and use Router 2 only for wireless access, DHCP off... the VPN does not activate. It's like it totally ignores that code I put in the startup commands. I want everything on Router 2 to be automatically behind the VPN.

Is this issue router-specific? Any explanation for why it would ignore the VPN code just because the DHCP is disabled?

Oh boy, I hope this is not a dumb question.....

Does anyone know where I can get software compatible with the latest version of Firefox which will allow me to use a chain of proxies? I tried Switch Proxy, but all that does is switch between one proxy or another. When you go to the internet connections menu on Firefox, it only seems to allow you to use one proxy at a time, not a chain of proxies.

I'd like to go anon. in an effort to throw a wrench into a trojan which is apparently emanating from Mainland China and doing weird things to my computer. For a description of this problem, if anyone wishes, see my post in the Hijack This log file forum.

Any ideas, even some decent software for under $40 would be greatly appreciated.

It's not real loud, and doesn't seem related to the fans. It's not the CD/DVD drive, because it continues when I open that drive door. When I put a mechanic's stethoscope on top of the case where the hard drive is, I pick up the fan sound - consistent RPM - but not the rising and falling of chain saw like noise.

Computer is running normally.

Should I worry?

A:Chain saw like noise from laptop!

I have a similar sound in my old laptop - in my case I have always believed to it be the fan, it appears as if some part of the bearing has been damaged.
So when the laptop starts up it makes a horrible sound from a fan towards the top of the keyboard, and when the fan slows down it virtually disappears. The sound is almost a cross between a crunching sound and a reving sound, very difficult to describe.

Not sure if thats helpful in anyway or if it descibes your issues?

I'm replacing two U2414H monitors with two new U2717D monitors. The two U2414H monitors were daisy chained together and worked fine. Now with the two U2717D monitors, I can't get the display to extend across both monitors - I'm only showing the same image on both. The physical wiring of the monitors is virtually the same.
In the Screen resolution screen (Windows 7) clicking "Detect" will show two monitors numbered 1 and 2 ( and two others that say "Another display not detected" ) but when I click "Identify" the big #1 appears on both screens. If I click on the monitor 1 image in the screen resolution window, it shows Dell U2717D as the display. If I click on the monitor 2 image, it shows Display Device on VGA.
They're connected to a Dell XPS 8900 operating Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. There is nothing connected to the video card - one cable is connected from the DP on the computer to the mDP on the monitor, the second cable runs from DP out of that monitor to mDP in on the second monitor. Note that on the second monitor I've disabled DP1.2.
I've also installed the latest drivers for the U2717D monitor.
I would appreciate any suggestions anyone may have.

PLEASE READ. I need help
To start this whole thing, I'm not sure exactly what I did. I downloaded "Toolwiz Care," and used all I could to fix my computer(before I was just slow and hadn't been urned on in 5 years). There are two thing that might have done it(I'll get to a list of things in a few) was the registry cleaner or the startup optimizer. I didn't check to see if system restore was on before any of this, so I had no restore points. For the obvious reasons is why I think the registry cleaner might of had something to do with it. But the startup optimizer is because about 20 services and processes dont stay on. They start then stop. I've tried going back, and restarting them, on msconfig, and services, and the startup optimizer. Nothing. One of them is windows diagnostics.

I can't run troubleshooter.
I have no Internet access.
Media player won't run.
Sound doesn't work, not even with headphones.
iTunes won't work.
When I log on after a reboot, I have a notpad document called desktop.ini, two of them automatically open.
That's all of the problems ive noticed.

Things I've tried:
System restore
And every method of boot setup there is.
I don't have a restore disk, I got the computer with windows already installed.
No computer with access to the Internet and a disk burner.
No USB flash drive.
Tried updating drivers. No go
I've tried fixes for some of the individual problems, but that list is too long. I've been trying nonstop since the 16th(t... Read more

Go into your start menu, go to all programs, go to accessories, right click command prompt, click run as administrator, accept the dialog box (or type in your administrator password if you are a standard user), type into the command prompt sfc /scannow. This will try to repair the system files. Keep running it until you stop getting errors or until you keep getting the same error. We'll go from there.

My problem is dealing with long filenames (surprise!). I don't know if this next statement is against the rules or not, but I was downloading a file with a P2P program and the filename ended up being too long. The download finished (according to my program) but when I actually went to the folder it said it was 0kb. So, I went to delete it and, as I'm sure many of you could guess I can't do anything with it.

I already tried a search for it (post) and this guy seems to have the same problem as me.

So I tried following the advice, and got stuck on navigating in DOS. I have no experience with DOS. So if someone can just explain that in detail that would be sweet. I also tried a search for that, but it didn't help me much. A lot of it was too vague.

A:HJT Analyser Log not very long but still having problems??

Welcome to TSF.

Didn't you post at KRC Forum also? Here is the fix:

Please print out the instructions here so that you can follow along more easily.

This is a new type of hijack and may take a couple of tries to remove it. If you have any questions during this process, please ask us (just don't reboot).

1. Run VX2Finder(126) again.

2. Run CleanUp! program and click on CleanUp button. Say NO when it asks you to reboot/logoff. Check your Downloaded Program Files folder for any program that you do not recongized and remove anything in question.

3. Delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\guard.tmp <<< If it exists!

4. Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. After that's done, go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\ModuleUsage

Delete the whole ModuleUsage folder. Close Regedit.

5. Run KillBox now.
a) Click on the 'Delete on Reboot' button.
b) Check 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File.'

Copy and paste each of the following locations (one by one) into KillBox (check 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out) and hit the X button for each one (when it asks you if you want to reboot, click NO):

6. On the reboot hit the F8 key (repeatedly until a menu shows up) to enter Safe Mode.

A:long list of problems

you need professional help, IN PERSON, PHYSICALLY.
if you're at the point of throwing your pc out the window, then data loss i guess isnt an issue and this is a good time for you to learn how to FORMAT and INSTALL windows.
1) NTFS is a type of file system or a method that certain operating systems (like windows xp, 2000 etc) write down information onto your HARD DRIVE.
You may have FAT32 file system which OLDER computers with XP use or a custom built PC with XP would have. ... you do have xp right?
2) "tries to reinstall windows" what is does the computer screen say EXACTLY, if you need to get to the point where it goes TOO fast for you to read messages, a VIDEO CAMERA or VIDEO capable phone / camera will work wonders. (love the old tech)
3 & 4 & 5 can be resolved once 1 and 2 are straightened out.
love that fact that you state cd/dvd does work like you know what possible solutions there are. having fun yet?

Hi Tech Support.

I have a CPU problem and I feel the best way to describe it chronologically, starting years back. It all started when my old computer got bombed by a hacker. I alluded to the fact that he was cheating in Counterstrike, and my screen just filled with many, "F- you's, then my computer turned off for the last time. I gained a new respect for them that day.

That CPU is long gone, but my Stepfather, who is an advanced programmer, said that he couldn't risk any other hackers getting to his work via my computer and my sub-par understanding of the way things work in general. He said he needed me on a subnetwork.

On that day that I got put on this subnetwork/got new computer, I started to have constant, intermittent spikes, making Counterstrike unplayable. However I persisted.

I upgraded that XP to my current Vista a year or two ago, as I plugged it in I was in a sort of prayer-mode hoping that the lag spikes would be gone. They were, for the most part.

However, from that point on, there were always several people in any game I played, that complained of huge intermittent lagspikes which made the game unplayable for them. They all had never experienced them before and would proceed to list off all their fine hardware saying there's no way they themselves were causing the problem.

My CPU sounded terrible, revving up and down wildly, I believe strongly this is a symptom.

For years, I would bounce around from game to game, and the developer... Read more
