Windows 8 storage space ssd and hdd

Q: Windows 8 storage space ssd and hdd

I want to install windows 8 on my 60GB ssd and use a 1TB hdd I have using storage space feature in windows 8. Is this possible?

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 storage space ssd and hdd

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can create a storage pool with a single drive...you just won't be able to use any of the resiliency functionality, but can expand it later.

I created a Storage pool with the following setup. Three 3TB drives with parity all in an external enclosure with eSata and USB 2/3 ports. It was connected via USB when created and had production data loaded and tested without any issues.
After a few days of use I decided to see what happened when I tried to access it via the eSata port. No luck, due to a driver on the eSata card issue with Win 8. So I powered all back down and plugged back in via USB. At this point the Storage pool went
into the state as per the screenshot below. Any suggestions to either fix the issue and/or retrieve the data that is in the volume?

Can someone give me a simple explanation of how Windows 10 backup works? I am not asking how to set it up, or how to create a system image, but rather how it behaves. When it backs up files, does it compare source with destination, then copy only if the source file of the same name is newer? Or, does it copy all files, regardless, filling up my external hard drive. I would like to limit the amount of storage for backup. In other words, if it's safe, I want to delete everything that is not up to date.

My Windows mobile phone have been running slow few weeks ago. I have been using this for 4 yrs. I have installed programs or store most of my files in the storage card. However, I have noticed each time I deleted some items in my storage or deleted messages the storage capacity becomes low, thus giving me no idea why it says the storage capacity is critical..i have even deleted the IE files and deleted some of my unused programs. I restarted it, but it still the same. I tried texting message but it can not be sent.

Can u help me get through this?

I set the maximum shadow copy storage space to 8 GB in my Vista and thought I should never worry about the space in my system disk. However, I have just found the Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space at the moment:

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.326 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.573 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 8 GB

Do you know why and how to limite the Used Shadow Copy Starage space?
Thank you for any suggestions!

A:Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space !

It would be helpful if you filled in the System Specs. That way if you post on another issue people answering don't have to ask the same questions about your hardware over again, or search for the post with the info. Just push the specs link in every one of your posts.

I'm not sure how they measure the space usage. But 8 GB sounds like only a couple of restore points. How big is the HD? I suspect when deciding to discard an old restore point it looks at the current usage. If under the limit, it keeps all the old and makes another. That's just a guess on my part. But you can try a few different max numbers and see how it acts for yourself. As Yogi Berra said, "you can observe a lot by watchin'".

I first notice my notebook begins to have this issue when I tried to update my Windows. It returned me with error code "80070008", which says that my computer might have run out of memory, however, there are 200GB space available
in my C: drive, and I am only using 27~30% of my RAM out of 8GB.
I tried to perform DISM 'ScanHealth' and it returned me "Error: 8 - Not enough storage is available to process this command".
At first, I tried to ignore this issue as I thought it did not cause me any major trouble. But I was wrong. Several USB devices become unresponsive (yellow exclamation icon at Device Manager).
When I tried to manually install drivers, that's when I found out it was this STORAGE insufficiency again that cause me trouble:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered error while attempting to install it.  - Not enough storage is available to process this command".
Some of my programs also become incredibly laggy ever since this issue arises, yet I don't know where the problem lies.
At Event Viewer... I noticed several error messages regarding
"Windows was unable to load the registry. This problem is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights. - DETAIL: Not enough storage is available to process this command".
I also caught a glimpse of one error that I think stated more clearly:

I am considering adding storage space to my Dell Optiplex 755. I don't know much about this except I assume it involves either plugging something into the motherboard or using a desktop unit that plugs in through a USB port. I am going to be doing some video editing and I need space for all my footage. This is a separate concern from data backup, for which I plan to acquire two external hard drives (which I asked about in another thread).

What is the best way to go about this? I am already worried about external hard drives' rate of failure. Is it any better for internal hard drives/internal SSDs/desktop additions? Obviously this includes the added consideration that I will be working off the unit every day for about 8 hours, so it has to be hearty enough to deal with that.

Thank you for any advice!

I recently got help from a brilliant guy on this site about reinstalling Windows 10.
Prior to doing this my Laptop seemed to always lack storage space! It has storage of about 30GB which I know isn't a lot, but it seems that 26GBs has already been taken up by god knows what!
And every time I turn on the computer and use it (general browsing) the memory storage gets lower and stops apps from running!
Can anyone give a look in to why? I've used programs to locate large files but it seems I need the files that aren't huge!
Any help?

I have Windows 10 Pro I just installed on a Dell XPS with 12GB of Ram. I have 3 drives: My OS is on a Samsung SSD. My data is on a 3TB HDD partitioned into D: (Data) and E: (Video). I also have another identical 3TB drive. I used the latter drive as a mirror on Win 7 for my D: and E: drives. I removed the mirror prior to moving to Windows 10. Now all my data is in D: and E: on the ?Dynamic? Disk 2.
When I tried to create the Storage Space, the dialog only displayed the Disk 1. So, I created the Storage Space and it now called it Disk 9 in Disk Management. Then, I deleted the Storage Space.
2 questions:
1) Now, I cannot see the drive at all in Disk Management, though it shows up in Device Manager "This device is working properly."
2) Why was I unable to see my other data drive (Disk 2) in Storage Spaces?

2) What Hard disc would you suggest for main installation.

Welcome to EightForums alexanderd

For storage 4TB is more than enough, but I do not have assurance to give you to the point that it is Windows 8 ready.

I'm currently running on a dual boot.

About the system requirements you can visit this link http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...-download.html

For the hard drive I suggest D: just leave Win 7 on your C: so that if you got in trouble from Win 8 you still have the Win 7.

And when you install make sure to have a Clean Install - Windows 8

My hard drive has a capacity of 465 GB. I've run WinDirStat and it says that there are only 228 GB worth of files on my hard drive. Windows, however, states that I only have 62 GB free. This leaves about 175 GB unaccounted for.

I tried defragmenting my disk, but it didn't help. I also ran disk clean up and deleted all the restore points/shadow storage, but that also didn't make a difference. I ran the command line "vssadmin list shadowstorage" to double check, and it says that shadow storage is only taking up about 3 GB.

Here are some pics of storage management in "my computer", WinDirStat results, and a window showing disk usage for restore points.

I'm at a lost as to where the space is being taken up. Any help will be appreciated.

EDIT: WinDirStat is showing 172 GB of unknown space. What can this be? I'm running a full disk check now, as another thread with a similar problem found this to be the solution.

I haven't been able to update in months because of this. I don't understand how the computer's required files can be using up more than half of my disc space. I've done disc cleanup, but that did nothing. I have deleted every possible thing on this computer that I can. The only apps I have are spotify, gimp, and microsoft word. I store all of my documents and pictures on a flash drive. I only use this computer for writing and for surfing the internet, but my disc space is somehow so full that the computer can't update.

So, what do I do? All my space is taken up by "required files". This laptop is less than two years old, I can't accept that it's time to get a new one already. What are my options?

A:Storage space issue

@thomas_07 You're not going to be able to completely install any apps onto an external drive. That's because the installation involves creating lots of different files, including making changes to the Registry, and those all reside on your "C" drive. What you CAN so is use app settings to ensure that large DATA files get written to and stored on an external drive, but that depends on each app and what it allows.

When you click on the "windows" folder in My Computer/C:/ and chose properties it says that the folder contains 34GB, but when you enter the folder, select all files (including hidden files) it comes to a total size of 3.69GB. I was just wondering where the other 30GB is???

It is a bit confusing cause there are not many programs or files saved on the local harddrive, most programs and files are saved on the company server so the local hardrive shouldn't be full. 40GB should be more then enough. Some help please????

Hi forum,
I am very careful about keeping an eye on System Restore points but I think I may have made an incorrect move.

I recently made a "vssadmin" alteration to storage space on my main drive (C) to 3GB. I now appear to have a lost a restore point which backdated to 3 weeks ago when the PC was running perfectly. This only occured after the change. I know this point is now lost forever.
However to avoid this happening in future at what figure should this be set in future.? Some recommend 30% of free space on the drive which, in my case, would be around 50GB. All the other recommendations say 3GB. Very puzzled by all this and would appreciate assistance. I like to keep points dating back a while as a precaution.

You are very wise system restore is the best feature of Vista. I always keep as many as possible.
System Restore: frequently asked questions
System Restore - disk space

As long as you meet the minimum required space you can make the space used as large as your needs require.

See post by our leader and very respected member regarding the OS
System Restore - disk space

Again meet these requirements then you can make as large as you want to be comfortable

Reading your post indicates that you are like me, very conservative with your computer. Why not download the free Macrium Reflect and make a copy of your hard drive, then update once a month

Please avoid to store your data/files on it, it is small and can be filled up very fast . Some apps allow you to install on other drive. 2. Disk 2 has 2 partitions     D: You can use it to store your data (musics, videos ...) on it. You can also store some apps which allow you to install outside C:    E: Recovery partition: please do not touch it, you may need it one day to rebuild your machine. Vendors (including HP) won't supply DVD's for OS and drivers, they use Recovery partition. Hope this helps. Regards

Hi - I have a low spec notebook with Windows 10 preinstalled. Low spec is fine for my purposes but my 32 GB SSD is almost full and this seems to be stopping Windows from updating. Actually I have 7 GB of free space, which I assumed would be sufficient for the update but apparently not. But there is another related issue. When I check storage space under settings, there is 5.09 GB referred to as "other".

When I open this category, it reveals 7 folders and sizes:

These sizes hardly add to 5.09 GB so I investigated further...

When I open these folders and check properties, most of the sizes above are correct. The exception is C:\eSupport. Within this folder, there are two subfolders - 'eDriver' 1.51 GB and 'Manual' 217 MB. So this explains a portion of the 5.09 GB - perhaps - but where is the rest?

Can anyone tell me how to regain some or all of the 'phantom' 5.09 GB under the category of 'other'?

A:Storage Space Issue

I'm not sure on the other files, but if your device has a SD slot, you could pick up and SD pretty cheap and move some stuff over to free up space.

I know this will sound like a silly question, but is there any 'free' storage space on the web for uploading files too, that can then be accessed by anyone (i.e un password protected like drop box) and can have a file structure?

I only need 50mb but everywhere has to link to a download page first or have to have a user id to sign in with ect :/

I know the answer is most likely NO without paying for it, but as were a bunch of students its not really an option right now

thanks anyway

I have a home network with a xp home and a 98se machine hard wired to a netgear mr814v2 router. I have a laptop running xp pro wirelessly. I have a problem accessing the xp home machine from the xp pro laptop. I can access a shared printer connected to the home machine.

I can ping all of the computer by IP and name. All of the shared folders and drives show on all of the computers.

I added the same user name and password to the computers.
When I try to copy a file to any shared folder on the home computer with the pro laptop I get these exact messages: Cannot copy "file name": Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

When I try to access a shared folder on the home computer from the pro computer I get this message: \\BASEMENT\Photos is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the adminstrator of this server to find out if you have access permisions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

The shared photo is on a 120 G hard drive that is empty.

Thanks Jerry

Windows firewall is off. All computers have Sysgate firewall with the home network IP's allowed. No change with firewalls disabled. Same workgroup names.
