Lenovo V580c HDD died, can't boot from DVD or othe...

Q: Lenovo V580c HDD died, can't boot from DVD or othe...

We have lenovo V580c notebook which HDD has died - it was already refubrished 2 times lol and it has died again. It has Windows 8/8.1 preinstalled and we have upgraded to Windows 10 recently. But since HDD has died, we needed to reinstall the system on the new drive (we have msata ssd for that). Anyway, I tried to boot notebook with DVD with burned clean Windows 10 ISO image but notebook don't want to boot from the DVD all of a sudden. No changes in BIOS could help to solve it - notebook just not recognizing any drive now. It goes through all boot options and stopped at network boot which we don't have. And then we see just a small windows with booting option which are not working any way. Here are some pictures: http://imgur.com/a/6R185 http://imgur.com/a/112HY http://imgur.com/a/K1k8Q I already tried lall posible BIOS modes, loaded safe settings, used UEFI/Legacy/Both, disabled/Enabled Secure boot. Nothing helps and the notebook is literally unusable now because it is not acepting any storage/disc to boot from. I even tried to remove any booting unit like HDD, DVD and new msata I tested before. Notebook just not even trying to boot. Obviously it is out of warranty now. What can I do to fix it and make it acept to boot from DVD again? I don't want to bring it to the perair service because it wil cost us the money. This product should just work at the first place. We had so bad experience with lenovo with this notebook that I won't buy any other their product anymore.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There seem to be a major problem with Lenovo's AccuType keyboards that no one is talking about. I may be in minority of people that will be bothered with this but still want to share and see what are experiences of other users. Basically what happens is that characters are not recognized if not pressed directly in the middle of the key.For example if you press the key on the bottom/left quarter it will not register most of the time. This gets very noticeable if you type fast not looking at the keyboard. This is Z50-75 (I have 2) and it had this problem since day one. I had the keyboard replaced just before I shot this video as I was certain there was some kind of defect on my keyboard alone. Yet nothing changed with a new keyboard. It seems however that this is considered normal and nobody else is complaining about it. Therefore all AccuType keyboards should have the same problem - or almost every Lenovo laptop since 2013.Nowadays those are: G series, G40, G50, G50-45, G510, G70, M series, M30, B series, B40-45, B50, B50-45, B70, S series, S20, Flex 2 series, Y series, Y40, Y50, Y70 Touch, E series, E50, E31, Z series, Z50, Z70-80, U series, U31, U41Please share your experiences below. I've also made a video so it is easier to see what I'm talking about here. You can watch it here.

Didn't found my own Z710 AccuType keyboard near as bad as yours. But I sometimes could get key presses unrecognized, if hitting upper quarter areas on mine, so it was possible to replicate a bit, what you are experiencing. While not an too big issue in my case, my AccuType in other hand from factory suffered a lot flexing, which is almost just as annoying. I think when electronics nowadays goes lighter and thinner than ever, manufacturers and not only lenovo have to compromise best mechanical solutions, in order to accomplish slimmer design. It is an unfortunate tendency seen in development everywhere. I too don't see easy way to fix this particular issue, when new keyboard doesn't seem to help. I feel your pain.

I was internet browsing when out of no where I got a blue screen of death with the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error. This has happened before so I thought no big deal, it'll finish doing its thing and restart. NOPE. It shut off at about 20% through the process and wouldn't turn back on. It was running Windows 10.Any ideas on how to revive it?Also, I bought it on Amazon during cyber Monday of 2014. Anyone know how long the warranties on these things last? Thanks!

A:Lenovo Y50 Died

Hi jgraves12, Kind of unsual for it to shutoff and not able to turn it on all of a sudden. Does it have no signs of life at all? No lights on any of the indicator. If that's the case there are couple of things you can try.? Remove AC adapter, press and hold power button for 30 secs, replug AC adapter, turn it on using Power Button/Novo Button (Button beside the power button). If you're able to turn it on using Novo Button, go to Normal Startup.? Test with a different AC adapter, make sure you charged it for more than an hour, or test the AC adapter on a different computer, see if it will charge.   Hope this will be helpful.

16 month old Lenovo B50-30 All-in-One - Type F0AU00CLUS powered off abruptly whilst in use today and refuses to power on. No activity except a light in the power switch. I've tried unplugging, waiting, holding the power button whilst unplugged, holding the power button whilst plugged in. The machine refuses to power on, it won't POST, there is no "beep", there are no fan noises and no hard drive spinning up. Of course it's about 16months old and out of warranty. This computer has been lightly used as a family PC with only an hour per day on it at most. No heavy duty applications, no over heating/over-clocking. Completely disappointed that it would die like this. I've built PCs from parts before so if there are any diagnostics or known issues with easy fixes I'd be fine to try those out.  What are my options and what kind of support should I expect from Lenovo?

4 year old laptop wasn't charging properly, it was being very fussy about the exact position of the power cable in the socket. It has what looks like a pretty common power connector for lenovo, which is a USB sized hole with a single centre pin. I looked into the laptop socket and saw that as well as the conductor for the centre pin and the outer sides, there was also 4 little tines on each side between the centre and the edge which were clearly all bent off in wrong directions (looked like an old toothbrush inside) I'm guessing the centre pin is +ve, the tines are -ve and the outer connections are just mechanical/shielding. I straightened these all out with a pencil but I think I must have momentarily shorted something as now the laptop shows absolutely no signs of life when I hit the power button. Tried various tricks I've read online about various sequencies of hitting the power button with the battery in and out but no luck. The laptop was fully charged before I started this, but I didn't disconnect the battery before starting which I probably should have. So I'm guessing I've shorted the power rails on that connector. What damage have I likely done? I'm amazed that there can be a design where very flimsy pins inside an external connector which are clearly easily bent can cause such damage if they touch another pin 2mm away from them. Is there any way to save this laptop? If it's a case of replacing an SMD fuse soldered onto the motherboard I can do th... Read more

We have a Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop computer, running Windows 7 Professional. It's a few years old, and for the most part has been running fine. However, it has now inexplicably died and won't come on again.

We've been having a few blackouts and brownouts lately. It's not one of those computers that stays off when the power returns; if it was set to 'on' when the power went out, it'll start back up once the power returns.

A couple of days ago, it had gone into standby or sleep mode, and for some reason wouldn't come out of it. The laser mouse wasn't lit up, which often happens when a computer is in standby mode, but when I hit keys on the keyboard, it still didn't come on. After opening and closing the disc drive, and pushing the power button a couple of times, I finally gave up and held the button until it force shut-down. The next time it was turned on, however, it worked fine, and didn't seem to exhibit any unusual behavior.

So yesterday, the computer was working. It was left running overnight, as it generally is. The following morning, however, it was no longer on. Pushing the power button yields no power lights or sound of anything running. I unplugged it from the surge protector, then plugged it back in again, choosing a different plug on the surge protector. Still nothing. It shouldn't be an issue with the surge protector itself, as the monitor and internet router connected to it work. I don't think there was an outage, either, because no clocks were reset.... Read more

The Power Supply Unit may have failed. This is a relatively easy fix if you get the part. Any PSU over 550Watts will do. If that doesn't fix it, you can always return the part.
If you need help knowing how to replace the PSU, there are videos showing you how on YouTube

I updated the bios and re-installed Windows to make sure this is not a software related issue. That did not help. I am still getting BSOD's with MACHINE CHECK EXCEPTION, CRITICAL PROCESS DIED or UNEXPECTED STORE EXCEPTION. The progress counter stays at 0% and I waited for two hours for it to load. I have noticed that one occasion when errors occur are when I plug in my machine for charging. But, it can also throw an error with nothing specific going on. I made the mistake of using my laptop without the charger and letting the battery run down. I launched The Sims 4 before getting up and grabbing my charger. I didn?t check to see if the laptop was actually charging after I plugged it in, simply because I?ve never had an issue before. So I set my laptop down and walked away, letting my game load. I left the computer alone for nearly 20 minutes. I came back and as soon as I went to use it, the screen went black. Luckily though it wasn?t entirely dead. I pressed the power button and it came back on briefly. The battery symbol had an ?X? and it said 0%. I noticed then that my charger wasn?t completely plugged into the machine. So I plugged it in properly and  I didn?t see a little charging symbol or anything but it didn?t shut down immediately - The Sims was still running in the back ground. I loaded up a world and after a minute or two it died. I tried to turn it back on but I wouldn?t turn on. So I let it sit unbothered, charging for several minutes. I tried to turn it back on and nothing happened. The power button wouldn?t even light up. However, when I do press it, there?s a little red light that blinks at the bottom of my laptop. I went online and tried to find some solutions. I tried the one where you detach the battery and the charger and hold the power button down for 30-60 secs and that produced no results. I think it might be a charger issue, but how do I know for sure? Any... Hi Noon2015,
Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system overheating in your Lenovo V580c laptop.
As you have mentioned that the system overheats, try to clean the fan through dust removal from the energy manager. Go to energy manager select maintenance and guide and select run under dust removal option.
For low battery backup try to perform the battery gauge reset and check for the issue.
Let us know the result.

Hi all,

Recently purchased a Y700 15isk
(i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR)

The machine came with windows 10 and I partitioned the system and installed fresh copy of windows 7 and windows 10 (dual boot).

So over the weekend I decided to build overviews (via software) of my music collection. Since the laptop has 8 cores, it was building 8 at a time. So I imagine that the system was working full throttle. About 2 hours into the project, the laptop completely went out. Suspecting a heat issue, I checked the brick, it was hot but still was giving me a power reading via my ohm meter.

Plugged the brick back into the laptop and the lights on the front of the system did not turn on. Anyways pulled the battery from the laptop and did a discharge cycle and nothing.

I suspect my motherboard or cpu went toast! Seeing that I will be using this new laptop to dj professionally, obviously I am glad this happened at home.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I can't believe that a new gaming laptop would fry while working all 8 cores. Fans also seemed to working while this was happening. In the power settings I also remember setting it "performance".

What are people using to stress test laptops? I will be sending this one in for repair and then stress test the one I get back.

A:New Lenovo Laptop Died While Rendering Files (All 8 Cores Being Used)

Laptops never has a good cooling system and always run hot.
The CPU has a temperature trigger that will shut down the computer to self protect.
As it also has a battery, I would say that is probably the internal power supply. When plug ed in, does the charging led goes on?

No reason to work on performance profile settings.
You can run on balance profile settings and adjust the minimum and maximum CPU clock. I suggest 20 & 100%. The clock then will automatically be set as necessary.

The i7 6700HQ has 4 cores and Hyper-Threading makes two tasks share one core, simulating 8 cores.

Hyper-Threading is only effective with high multitask programs, like Photoshop, Autocad, games etc, that split a complex task into multiple tasks.

Just got this laptop 2 months ago via amazon. I am a DJ and use Serato DJ software. I have only played 1 party with the new laptop. I am running windows 7 and windows 10 (difference partitions) Today I decided to build the overviews of my music collection. The software uses all 8 cores (8 songs at a time) to build them. I had the laptop running for about 2 hours. Everything was running fine. I even have the laptop slightly elavated in the back to get extra air flow. All of sudden the laptop shut off. I noticed that the charge light on the front of the laptop was no longer while. Power brick was pretty hot which seems normal for the intense core usage. Called tech support and went through some tech support, have to call back since there database was down. I suspect something on the laptop motherboard or memory etc went toast. This is my first Lenovo laptop ever. I have been a Dell guy for over 10 years, never ever had any hardware issues in 4 other laptops.  What can I expect from Lenovo warranty service? Anyone have any other thoughts on what the heck could have happened. This is probably the most intense I have run the laptop. DJ with the software isn't as intense as building overviews. Think of it as rendering.

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone can help me with my pc
My problem is that after a year of owning my machine it randomly would power off instantly when in the middle of playing games with high graphics settings and would come back on when i pressed the power button and work like normal but finally it cut out mid game and no longer powers on.

When i now press the power button, it starts the fans and LEDs for a few seconds and then goes off completely and seems to restart itself over and over until i turn off the power at the back. (It doesn't even get to the point where anything is displayed on the screen)

I should note that when i posted this on another forum i was advised to simply re-apply the (worn) thermal paste. I'm no expert but i would expect my machine to at least boot up without the aid of a cooler, anyway my processor does get hot when i turn it on so i suspect it isn't dead.

One last thing; when the machine powered off the very last time, the top graphics card was very, very hot and i recently realised that its covering the motherboard battery completely, perhaps this is the cause, anyway i'm adding a video of the attempted startup below:

Me so sad :( - YouTube

the noise at 0:40 is not the computer and i moved the cooler out of the way

If you want the spec heres where i bought it (without warranty)

A:PC died, tries to boot up but cant

The fact the you get power to parts of your system indicates that it's not dead....well not completely dead.

The fact that you say it powers itself off during game play, suggests to me, that it's an over heating issue..either with the CPU or GPU's in crossfire...either 1 or both.

I'd pull one of the GPU's out..the top one since you say it's very hot and check if your system boots up.

I had just crashed Windows XP with service pack 2 unknowingly and now it
won't boot correctly. When I reboot all I get is a black screen after
picking dos in my dual boot (red hat linux and dos) screen. Usually, after picking dos it would boot up XP like any normal computer. So anyways, I found my original windows XP with service pack 2 CD and inserted into my CD drive and booted it from there. However
after pressing any button to boot from CD and saw something about setup
inspecing my computers configuration and then the screen turned black. I
left it on for the night, but still nothing happened 8 hours later. An
interesting note is that if I unplug my hard drives, the CD boots to the
blue screen normally, but since my hard drives are not plugged in, it
can't install anything. Also, Linux works correctly and I am using it now
to type this message, but it is installed on another hard drive. I
understand that my problem is VERY abnormal, so I like any possible
comments or advise.

A:XP SP2 died, won't boot or reinstall

Hi jingesu9

Since your operating systems are on separate physical hard drives, try this:

1) Unplug the drive containing the Linux installation
2) Leave the drive containing the damaged XP installation plugged in.
3) Boot the computer, if the dual boot screen comes up, choose DOS and immediately start tapping the F8 key. [try to boot into Safe Mode]. If the computer boots into Safe Mode, check in your Event Viewer logs to see what caused the crash [Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer]. To view the details of an event, right-click on it, and select "Properties". That should help you troubleshoot the cause.

If the computer won't boot into Safe Mode, try:
4) Boot the computer with your XP Installation CD, and try a repair reinstallation. Read up on this before trying this step, however - and pay attention to the details http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...74#post1055774 --- http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm (You'll notice in the links in those articles that several other Recovery Console options are also available as alternative repair strategies).

Once you have XP running OK again (which should be possible, unless it's hard drive is damaged - in which case you can run disk diagnostics to check on that --- http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 ) --- You'll want to plug your Linux drive back in and then repair your Linux bootloader (either LiLo or Grub) to restore your... I just built a computer with a Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2GB of ram, 500 GB sata hard drive, PNY GeForce 8800 GTS and a cheap 800 watt power supply (less than $100 canadian). This same thing (black screen) happened when I forgot to put an extra plug from the power supply to the motherboard for extra graphics card power. Dont know if this helps. Also all the fans turn on as well as the light on the motherboard. What part will I have to exchange on this brand new PC!

A:Computer Died and wont boot up!

When you restarted it, did you have to pull the power cord and then plug it back in? And then does it restart? Those are symptoms of an overloaded or bad power supply.

What power supply manufacturer and model do you have?

My wife's laptop died. It will not boot. Screen remains dark although disk drive whirs and blinks and power on LEDs work.
Cannot get into the BIOS. I hooked up an external monitor. NG. I tried to boot using a Linux CD - won't boot. Tried a hard reset.

I suspect motherboard failure. Anything else I could try?

Could I hook my desktop to her laptop ( cables ? ) and copy her HD even without being able to boot her computer ?

I do have a BU of foldersr from Saturday so all is not lost.

Hello! New here so I'm hoping I put this in the right place...actually I have multiple questions. First off, I used to have a different HP laptop, was a great one, but some jerk wrecked it back in July last year and court craps still going on.  Due to the fact that the computer repair shop could not fix my laptop, I had to buy one from them. It's a refurbished HP ProBook 6550b. It's running on Windows 10, and..works decently, I guess? It's not as good as my other one of course, but I can still make cartoons and play some games. And by some games, I only mean a couple..I got Don't Starve and The Forest on Steam. I'm able to play Don't Starve pretty well on this laptop. The Forest will not work at all though. It takes ages to load the game, once it finally loads and I can start the game, the intro is very laggy, it's nearly impossible to move around. Minecraft runs..eh. I can kinda play it, it's laggy here and there, the laptops fan will get super loud. I can play on my server, but can't really play on the other servers, too much lag, or sometimes Minecraft will just crash. I have a lot of other games on Steam as well, The Cat Lady, The Long Dark, Night in the Woods, etc..Is there anyway I can somehow bump up the settings for games like The Forest and such? Without spending money on an upgrade, preferrably. I also don't know how to add in upgrades, as I'm not a very tech savvy girl.I'm planning on getting a new HP laptop when I can. I was looking at one... Read more

I have an older Toshiba Satelite A65 S1062 (purchased in 2004)that I was using the restore disk on when it lost power. Now when I try to start it, it goes directly to a "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" and returns to that message when I restart. Isn't there a way I can get a C prompt or something so I can try the restore disk again? It was running XP, I think it was the home version.

PS: There wasn't anything wrong with the laptop before I did this, at least not that I know of, other than it hadn't been used for over 6 months. I wanted to restore it so I could give it away.

Hi chaps,

I've had a few issues when booting recently, not that I've had my desktop on much, but when turning it on I've definitely had some issues...

I've got a five year old, pre going bust Evesham, with the original 350w (maybe 400w) PSU and Foxconn mobo/Q6600 in it. It's got 4GB of RAM that's about 18 months old. The boot HDD is about four years old and has seen a lot of use as it was on every day for work.

Recently, when turning it on, it's not been getting past the Foxconn startup screen, the HDD light flickered for a couple of seconds and then it just stayed on the screen and wouldn't load Windows. Then the next time it would. I assumed my C: drive was on the way out, so today ordered a 120GB Samsung 830 SSD (even though my mobo is SATA II, I'll upgrade the mobo/processor at some point soon) and was quietly happy about having an excuse to do this!

When I got home today, my gf had had the PC on during the day to check email/browse and it had been working ok, but when I got home it seemed to be sleeping, but the fans (processor, PSU, GPU and case) are going, power light it on, but there is nothing. I switched it off at the front switch and came back to it a few minutes later and it seemed reluctant to switch on, but it did, the fans kicked in, but there is nothing happening - nothing appears to be coming up on the monitor, nothing accessing. I switched it off and left it so not to risk further damage.

So my question is this... do you guys think my mobo/pro... Read more

A:Boot problems - something in my system is dying/has died!

Your problem is one that is going to require a great deal of trouble shooting. As old as the PSU and the MBO are the first thing to do is to attempt to get a hold of a program that can run a diagnoses on your system (google is your friend). Also check the tutorial section of the forum Brink has a huge amount of information in the tutorials that might help.

If you can get a hold of a copy of Linux (any favor) and set up a Linux start disk to recuse any information you want to keep/save.

Personally I would start with the PSU. Good Luck.

(Will keep an eye on this thread, and also look into some possible salutations.)

My SSD boot drive died yesterday but I have a recent image. What I don't have is a boot drive right now. I'm probably going to check some prices on SSD's locally later today and pick one up since it turns out the brand I was using isn't very reliable (OCZ Agility 2 60 gig - lasted 3.5 months). Assuming I do pick up a new boot drive how should I proceed? Should I install Windows on my HDD then restore the image to the new SSD or should I install Windows to the SSD and just restore everything but Windows? Or should I be doing something totally different?

I have a HP Pavilion a1240n. Initially, I had problems with it not powering on, but the green light I the back was blinking and the blue LED power button light was illuminated.  I was told to blow a hair dryer into the power supply fan until the light was steady then I could power it on. This worked for a while then the light in the back was no longer lit. I was told to change power supply. I did that, however, it was not much of a result. When plugged in the light in the back very quickly lights up, then goes right out. If I unplug the 2x2 pin from the motherboard, the light on one of the CD drivers in front will come on and the light in the rear of the computer comes on and the power supply fan and processor fan both will come on. I still do not have the blue led power button light, the second CD driver light, nor will the CD drivers open. In neither situation can I power the computer on. Do I have a faulty power supply or is my motherboard bad, or something else entirely? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

a few weeks ago i replaced my hard-drive and had to install everything all over again.
since than, all the programs (other than browsers) aren't able to connect to the internet.
for example, when i try to use google calender sync i get "please connect to the internet to use Google Calender Sync.", i can't use utorrent and their Portchecker (http://www.utorrent.com/testport?port=61146) says the port does not seem to be open. it happened also with itunes and other programs.
i tried adding these programs to the 'exceptions' in the windows firewall and the specific ports, i tried disablaing the firewall and the anti-virus and nothing helped.
before i replaced my hard-drive and installed everything again, it worked, so i don't think the problem is in the router or my internet connection.

i have windows XP, AVG antivirus.

thank you very much!!

Hi, (I posted this earlier by mistake in win98 to I'm putting it here in xp)

I have xp and everything works fine except I notice that lately when I open up "help" in a program (a totally unrelated program--HP label maker kit today it happened in), the whole help "box" opens up in dreamweaver!

the other day I can't remember if it was another program or a link in I.E. or what; but I clicked on help, or something, to open up text, and it opened up in dreamweaver also!

I guess I must have dreamweaver set as some sort of default somewhere, but I can't find it. It's when I expect regular text to open up, that it opens in dreamwaver. It's not the programs themselves that open in dreamweaver, just the help stuff or something.

can anyone help?

If you know what file extensions are incorectly associated you can check and change them by going to your control panel, clicking on "Folder Options", selecting the "File Types" tab, and examining the file extensions and their default associations.

You can change any that are worng.

If you know the exact date that this problem began you can use Windows System Restore to revert your system to a previous system state which may correct the problem.

Start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore.

My computers motherboard has died - won't boot, power supply checks out OK, no response even with all hardware disconnected. Its seven years old, so I've ordered new a new mobo, cpu, ram to replace my build.

My question - is there a way to get my current Windows 7 install to boot on my new hardware so I can then do my Windows 10 free upgrade ( I hadn't upgraded to 10 as of yet)?

I thought about booting to safe mode, deleting the hardware listed in Device Manager, then rebooting as normal and letting Windows recognize the new hardware. Would this work?

Thanks for any ideas.

I have a 7537 laptop, that just died after powering on.  I was on airplane, on a fully charged battery, It booted, I went to connect to Airplane Wifi and poof, just blacked out.
So before someone, asks,  yes the battery was fully charged, no there are not any lights on. I pulled the battery and then just tried the ac adapted after I arrived to my hotel.

After googling this issue, I am seeing this is a common issue and Dell does not have an answer for it. other than replacing the motherboard.

any suggestions would help especially since this is financed threw Dell still.

A:7537 Laptop died after boot and wont power on

I just had a similar problem with a Latitude E5570. Here's what worked for me:
Disconnect the power adapter
Remove the battery
Hold the power button for 5 seconds
Reinstall the battery and try powering on.
Reconnect the power adapter.
My problem was something to do with static flea power.

Hi there,

Yesterday my machine suddenly restarted itself after no apparent fault, and since then from POST I get random lines/characters all over the screen.
Everything sounds as normal, no unusual beeps or sounds.

At the windows boot stage, none of the options to load Windows work, it just eventually progresses to the stop message;

Stop "0x000000EA (0x89c07908. 0x88e054a8, 0xbacf3cbc, 0x00000001)"

I presume something needs replacing, (I'm thinking the Motherboard) and I'd just like some confirmation from anybody who's experienced something similar before I go out and buy the wrong thing.

System info:
Windows XP SP3
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Energy Efficient 95W edition Socket 775 (2.40GHz)
4GB RAM (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory
Hi-Power Black 800W 14cm Blue LED Fan PSU
Asus P5Q PRO P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

The machine was upgraded about 6 months ago, so the kit isn't exactly ancient

Here's a series of photos:

Power up:
Safe mode attempt:
Error Message:
Of course I would be very graetful of any help on the issue.

Thanks guys

Motherboard/video card? Check to make sure fans are spinning as well - typically you'll get an error if the fans cease, but to just make sure - overheating can cause this type of craziness too.

My system has 3 HD's. The SATA is an add on, with a sata pci card, just for storage. The 2 IDE's are setup for dual boot with XP Pro on both(C:drive & D:drive). One is more for gaming, the other is for everthing else. Everything has been fine for several months until my power supply burnt up. I had set up a dvd to burn when I went to bed and the power supply died during the burn process. I replaced the power supply and now cannot get my C: XP to boot completely. I can however boot to my D: XP and access my C:drive and all of its files as well as my SATA storage drive.

On bootup, I select the XP installation that is listed first which is my D:drive, all goes well and evething works. If I select the second installation which is my C:drive all seems well... It shows that Windows XP is loading but when it normally goes to the screen that allows me to enter UserName and Password all I get is a black screen and it just stays like that. No error or reboot... nothing.

Would really hate to reformat(take about 2 days) as I had just got it setup the way I want it. Since ntloader does come up and allows selection would it be safe to assume bootini is ok? Is it probable that the death of my power supply could have cause corruption to kernel32.dll? What say you?
